00:00¶ The other tent.
00:02Whatever do they want another tent for?
00:05Isn't the tabernacle and all its glory enough for them?
00:09Well no, they do need another tent and so do you and I.
00:14Moses has just spent forty days and nights alone with God.
00:18He is so delighted in that divine presence with him that he says he would prefer to stay
00:22in the wilderness rather than go forward to the promised land without it.
00:27Very likely he has already experienced in himself something of the personal transformation
00:31that is plainly evident after his second forty-day sojourn with the Lord.
00:37At any rate it is for this reason that Moses, literally, used to take a tent and pitch it
00:41outside the camp, calling it the tent of meeting, and it is a place to which anyone seeking
00:48the Lord used to go.
00:50Public corporate worship is one thing.
00:53By the Lord's will it is catered for by the tabernacle and its sacrifices.
00:58Personal, private time with God is another thing and it is for this that Moses pitches
01:03the second tent.
01:06Notice the connection, following the second stay on the mountain, Moses' face is shining
01:10because he talked with him.
01:13Moses also speaks with the Lord when he goes to the tent, it is a place of personal communion
01:18with God.
01:20The tabernacle services are at set times, but Moses exercises personal responsibility
01:25in going to the tent.
01:27Exodus 33 verse 8 and Exodus 34 verse 34 say whenever, implying it is whenever Moses decides
01:34to or shows us to.
01:36But whenever he does so, the Lord graciously affirms the situation by coming to meet him
01:41and securing the privacy of the meeting.
01:44Exodus 34 verse 34 says Moses goes in to speak with the Lord, but when he comes out he
01:50brings with him what the Lord had said to him.
01:53It is a real meeting, Moses desires it and the Lord makes it effective.
01:58Now do you see why they needed a second tent and why I say that you and I need one too.
02:04We each need a place of private meeting with God just him and me.
02:09For us, of course, no tent is needed just a simple turning to God.
02:14The angel, the Lord Jesus, welcomes us into his tent and makes room for us.
02:20Reflection May we echo these words, like Jesus, like
02:24Jesus.
02:25I want to be like Jesus.
02:27Follow his example in Isaiah 50 verse 4 and Mark 1 verse 35.
