Simone Biles Says She and Jordan Chiles Bowed Down to Rebeca Andrade to 'Show Good Sportsmanship' (Exclusive)

For Simone Biles, there was a simple reason why she and Jordan Chiles decided to bow down to rival (and friend) Rebeca Andrade after she beat them for gold: "Sportsmanship." It was a move that was largely praised as women supporting women, other than a few critics. And one that was important to Biles.

00:00I loved you and Jordan bowing down to Rebecca yesterday, that was so great.
00:04And just like celebrating that all-black podium, why was that important for you to do?
00:08It was important because one, it was representation, but also for all the little girls and boys that look like us,
00:14for them to believe in themselves that they can do it too.
00:16I was one day in their shoes and I saw Gabby win and I was like, oh my gosh, if she can do it, I can do it.
00:20So just doing that, showing good sportsmanship, having fun out there because it was the last competition.
00:25How are you feeling now after these games have concluded compared to Tokyo last time?
00:29Yeah, oh well, so much more relieved, so much more at a better spot mentally and physically.
00:34Just happy with overall what I've been able to accomplish and what I've done
00:37because putting in that therapy and that mental work meant everything to me and it was much needed.
