00:00A group of politicians from Taiwan's ally in Jinmen Islands are once again calling for
00:04a bridge to connect it to the Chinese city of Xiamen, just 5 kilometers away.
00:09I hope that the central government can give Jinmen an opportunity to develop.
00:15Xiamen is already on fire.
00:18If we build a bridge, it will be the first ground connection between Taiwan and China.
00:29Jinmen already gets much of its fresh waters from China and has strong economic and cultural
00:34connections with the city of Xiamen.
00:36Lawmakers there are also calling for Jinmen to become a demilitarized zone.
00:41Legislators from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party oppose the plans, citing security concerns.
00:46The cross-sea bridge and the establishment of a non-military zone in Jinmen are actually
00:51harming our sovereignty and security.
