00:00Nobody ever told me what rescuing a stray dog would feel like.
00:04It was so heartbreaking to see him outside in the cold.
00:07All that I had in my mind was the memory of him going in and out of the woods.
00:11Why don't you be my friend, little guy?
00:15I never rescued a stray dog before.
00:19I just knew that the only way to get to him was by gaining his trust.
00:24I started by gently approaching him and offering him some food.
00:28Do you want to be my friend?
00:30I figured that maybe he would feel more comfortable if I brought out my dog, Gracie, with me.
00:39Gracie finally broke the ice, and I saw them meeting each other in the distance.
00:45We must be doing something right, so let's keep trying.
00:48I started to hang out on my back porch with Gracie to see if he would come closer.
00:52I sat there every afternoon.
01:00After weeks of patient and consistent meet-ups, he let me pet him.
01:06I felt like all the effort I had put in those past few weeks was completely worth it.
01:11Since he wasn't my pet, I didn't have to worry about him being lonely.
01:16Since he wasn't microchipped, I figured it was time to get him his own collar.
01:22I was very nervous to see how he would react.
01:38The next challenge was that he wasn't used to a life as an indoor pet.
01:42We offered him a custom crate that we built for Gracie.
01:45He climbed up the crate and escaped through the bars.
01:50Bash, I gotta go to work. I can't stay with you, baby.
01:53I gotta go to work so I can keep giving you treats.
02:01He didn't know what a toy was.
02:03He would even steal our shoes and socks and play with those instead.
02:07Why do you have a shoe, baby?
02:10One day, I came home from work and he had completely destroyed the window blinds.
02:17I did have some uneasiness because I wasn't sure if he would ever learn how to be a house dog.
02:26After a couple of weeks, he really began to settle.
02:30I love you! I love you!
02:33I knew putting all that time and effort and patience into rescuing him was the best thing.
02:44Now, Bash is living his best life.
02:47I would say to anyone out there who's in the same situation,
02:50that you just have to trust the process and never give up.
02:54Nobody prepares you to adopt a stray dog,
02:57but I can tell you that the reward was completely worth it.
