Port Stephens-Hunter Police District Commander, Superintendent Wayne Humphrey addresses media about an attempted armed robbery in Rutherford. Video by Chloe Coleman
Transcript
00:00So we're making inquiries in relation to an attempted robbery which occurred last night at Water Walks Road at Rutherford about 11.30pm.
00:07A male described as about 187cm tall, medium build with light brown hair. He was wearing a dark grey hooded jumper, light grey tracksuit, pants and dark shoes.
00:18He confronted an occupant there, he was armed with a knife at the time. He demanded property.
00:23The occupant refused that demand and the man left without any further interaction.
00:29Now we believe he's the same man that is responsible for at least four other offences in that particular area where he's visited two houses on two occasions.
00:41He has been armed on a couple of those occasions and he has confronted occupants and on each occasion the occupant has again told him to leave and he did.
00:51He has stolen property from a couple of the places. We've had some process in place to try and identify the man but these so far haven't been successful.
01:00So we're now making an appeal to the public to have a look at the vision that's been released if you know this man to contact the Maitland Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
01:09We believe he's certainly a local in that area but if we knew where he was we'd already be there.
01:17On two of the occasions there was a small amount of money stolen, a medium amount of money and some handbags and some credit cards.
01:24Those haven't been used and on the other occasion there was a small amount of jewellery taken.
01:30It could be CCTV, it could be dash cam, anyone who's seen that man fitting that description.
01:35I urge people to have a look at the video. He will stand out, this fellow, and if you know him, he can be an anonymous call.
01:43I'm concerned about the escalation level. We've got other processes in place as you've probably imagined at the moment trying to locate him and arrest him for his offences.
