00:00corner wearing the red shorts with gold he weighed in 64.3 kilos his record includes nine wins
00:09five wins by KO from Serbia Bogdan Draskovic
00:19and across the ring in the red corner wearing the white with sparkling silver trim he was
00:26on the scale 64.1 kilos he brings a perfect record nine contests nine wins two KOs from Monte
00:37Carlo, Monaco, Hugo, Mikhailov
00:43so here we go with our opening contest six rounds in the super lightweight division Hugo Mikhailov
01:08top rank 140 pound prospect taking on Bogdan Draskovic of Serbia Draskovic entering this
01:16contest with a record of 9 14 and one fought just two weeks ago in Belgrade he took a four
01:22round unanimous decision over Miro Ivanovic and Mikhailov as we mentioned was in action last
01:30November on the Stevenson De Los Santos undercard picking up a stoppage win over Sergio Odubay
01:38and Adam as you mentioned obviously Mikhailov is a curiosity because he is the lone representative
01:44of Monaco but he is a little bit more than that you see the the only fan sponsorship on the trunks
01:49as you pointed out he's clearly a young athlete with an eye towards the other things that it takes
01:55to become a star beyond just talent yeah and that even comes back to him in the ring because he's on
02:01a two-fight stoppage streak he understands you know early in his career he was content to just
02:05outbox guys and use his length the way that he is already in the early going of this fight but
02:09he's looked a lot more aggressive in his last two and I think that comes back to his understanding of
02:13what he needs to do to make a name for himself in the boxing world. Mikhailov establishing
02:22that jab early likes to use that lead hook likes to throw uppercuts when he
02:27does get to the inside we saw him hurt Sergio Odubay with a couple of those
02:34see Draskovic trying to step in behind the left hook
02:40Draskovic a true road warrior fighting in his fifth country in two years and these are the
02:47types of assignments that he tends to get against a prospect on the road short notice
02:53and right now just eating body shots from Mikhailov there
02:57good three-punch combination downstairs
03:08good shot downstairs there from Mikhailov
03:14this is what Draskovic likes to do he likes to at least attempt to walk you down
03:18fight the fight on his terms you know if he's coming towards you
03:21he's got some good head movement he can when he gets inside he can bob and bob and weave and slip
03:26some shots but the problem is sometimes the feet don't always follow so when he's backing up and
03:29he's moving his head he's still giving up ground but again it looks like he's getting a feel for
03:35what Mikhailov has coming at him and we'll see if we can get a competitive uh end of this first
03:40round there's a couple of body shots there from Draskovic and Draskovic has been reasonably
03:46durable thus far in his pro career still a young athlete and for someone like Mikhailov who's
03:53looking to get busy again here in 2024 it seems like a reasonable matchup for him as we enter the
04:00final 15 seconds of round one and Draskovic continues to just touch Mikhailov to the body
04:06it's not like he's been uncompetitive in that opening round which comes to a close
04:11no exactly and it's Draskovic's style you know he always likes to come forward he's going to make
04:14you fight you're not going to be able to just poke and prod and kind of just glide your way to
04:20to a win against a guy like Draskovic he's uh he's going to make you earn it
04:26he's going to make you earn it
04:40take a look back at some of the action from round one
04:47we had mentioned that you know Mikhailov loves his straight shots
04:50but when he gets in close he does mix it up with uppercuts and hooks and we've seen him
04:54stick to that plan here in the first round a couple shots split the guard and then when
04:59Draskovic continues to come forward he looks downstairs for a number of good body shots
05:16it's round two now underway
05:17as Hugo Mikhailov back in action looking to pick up his 10th professional win
05:30the pride of Monaco the only representative of Monaco in professional boxing digs downstairs
05:37to the body with a nice left hook again and of course that presents some obvious challenges
05:42for Mikhailov who splits his training time between Monaco and the Canary Islands really
05:49all that he has to work with is Callum Formento who's a high-level amateur and Spanish national
05:54champion without being able to travel to the United States all the time Adam he kind of has
06:00to work with what he's got and to even reach the level that he's at to have competed as a
06:04high-level amateur on the international stage with those resources is absolutely fascinating
06:09yeah for sure exactly you have to work with kind of what's available to you and it seems
06:13like he's been able to do that you know through the beginning of his career we'll see maybe
06:17further down the line if some location changes happen but for now he's certainly making it work
06:23for himself good left hook on the inside there from Mikhailov standing and trading Draskovic
06:30getting some shots in as well and a strong right at the end of that exchange and then he just landed
06:34another one there
06:42one thing to point out which may come into play very quickly you notice that we are outdoors
06:49at Skanderbeg square where today in Toronto it is 101 degrees Fahrenheit so
06:58things could get very spicy in there very quickly and for a potentially unconditioned boxer
07:04not saying we're seeing either of those uh seeing any of those right now in the ring but
07:08the heat could take it out of you yeah and we are seeing a lot of body work
07:12so fatigue on its own or body work on its own can lead to fatigue and you
07:16factor in the the outside conditions and we'll see who did their cardio
07:34starting to back Draskovic up with a little more regularity here using the foot feints using the
07:40lead hand
07:50Draskovic as you pointed out wants to be running downhill so to speak wants to be moving forward
07:55far less effective when he's backing up
07:58so here the indicator for the final 10 seconds of the second round
08:08and that'll do it for round two some good work being provided here
08:13from Draskovic for the top-ranked prospect Hugo McAllister
08:18so
08:28here's some work again we see Draskovic again trying to close that distance the best he can
08:32and walk forward and it seems like Hugo has been able to download a bit of the data as it were from
08:37the first round and was able to kind of turn the tide a little bit and keep keep Draskovic on the
08:41back foot which where he's a lot less comfortable and with front range if McAllister's in the
08:46driver's seat that's where he's at his best with his with his jab and a nice quick straight to follow
08:52so
09:15round three now underway Hugo McAuliffe and Bogdan Draskovic in our opening contest six rounds
09:21in the 140 pound division
09:27McAuliffe continues to build a name for himself as a prospect and really he turned heads for the
09:35first time in the amateurs when he picked up a win over Tiger Johnson at the Box Am Elite
09:41tournament in Spain back in 2021 he fell short in that tournament to Pat McCormick who of course
09:48went on to become an Olympian as well but going back to what we were talking about earlier
09:53Adam the resources the lack thereof for Hugo McAuliffe to be able to beat a fighter the
09:58caliber of Tiger Johnson obviously indicated to top rank that here's a kid with some serious
10:05natural ability here's something that we can hone oh for sure and you know you see you know 4 140
10:10he seems like he's on the taller side has long reach as well and you add that into the understanding
10:15of boxing that he has he comes from a family of boxers so he's had an understanding of boxing for
10:20for all of his life and like you say even with limited resources he makes it work and that's
10:26you know that'll that'll open some eyes to what's going on here McAuliffe's father
10:33a boxer McAuliffe initially as he takes a nice left hand there from Draskovic
10:39initially he just wanted to draw he wanted to be an artist he wanted to skateboard and do
10:43other things but ultimately was drawn into the sport after seeing his father jumped by six men
10:49in the street he decided I don't want that to happen to me I better learn how to defend myself
10:56obviously he's done much more than that he's turned it into a fruitful career
11:02yes
11:12McAuliffe continuing to hook off that jab as we enter the final minute of round three
11:22Draskovic a multidisciplinary fighter gets hit with a left hook there
11:28he's a European champion in Waco kickboxing
11:32caveat of course Adam as you understand being an MMA expert as well is that much like national
11:38titles in U.S. amateur boxing there are a lot of ways to be a world champion a European champion
11:44in kickboxing but clearly Draskovic knows what he's doing in kickboxing we'll say that at the
11:48very least oh for sure you know there's there's lots of you know everyone everyone has a path
11:54to some sort of title in that way whether it's a regional or you know a country title or maybe
11:59a small promotion that comes in a certain region but that's not to take away what we're seeing it
12:04here firsthand is he knows what to do when he's in a fight you know even in boxing kickboxing
12:10he's holding his own here with a very you know highly touted prospect as you see he doesn't
12:15certainly doesn't look outclassed and you know it seems like you know fight experience is still
12:20fight experience regardless of across disciplines let's take a look back at some of the action for
12:38the previous round Draskovic again trying to close that distance lands a good shot there on McAuliffe
12:43but you know the speed is still just a little bit off from Draskovic can't quite keep up with at
12:49range from McAuliffe but he's heading to a couple moments now where he's doing his you know trying
12:54his best to close the distance and when he does he is able to land some what we saw for through
12:59most of that round is that McAuliffe with the speed and the quick jab was able to keep him
13:03at bay for the most part you know a vast difference from what we saw in round one
13:06round four underway
13:15Bogdan Draskovic giving a good account of himself round after round here against Hugo McAuliffe
13:20whether you've given him one of these rounds or not Draskovic giving good work to Hugo McAuliffe
13:27and that is the task at bare minimum for him here tonight and I think this you know is another
13:34indication that just because you see a certain record on box rack doesn't always mean that
13:40fights like this don't have utility there is probably a 14 and 0 fighter out there at 140
13:46pounds that wouldn't be giving Hugo McAuliffe this kind of work no exactly that's why you know
13:52you really have to see it for yourself because if you look on a piece of paper and you see you see
13:56a 9 or 8 and 14 record you know you automatically just a bit of a write-off and you know this is by
14:02no means a write-off of a fight you know like you mentioned whether you give him rounds or not
14:05I've still got McAuliffe up 3-0 but that does not mean that this is not you know a competitive
14:10fight between two guys that are definitely you know within striking distance of winning this fight
14:15okay
14:28trying to bull his way to the inside we haven't really seen McAuliffe
14:34able to or want to work on the inside as he lands a nice left hook to the body there and perhaps Adam
14:40we haven't seen those uppercuts that McAuliffe specializes in because frankly
14:44for Draskovic all of his work is going to come on the inside so why bother
14:48working on the inside if you don't have to yeah for sure and we've said it all along he is at
14:53his best when he's using that reach when he's at distance when he goes with the quick one-twos
14:58as he eats a left hook there to the face Draskovic again trying to
15:02close this distance as he has through the first four rounds
15:06but again this is this is where McAuliffe is at his most comfortable when he's able to
15:10paw the jab out and kind of get a read on where he's going next
15:16do you see McAuliffe at times just kind of willingly walking himself to the ropes maybe
15:20looking for you know the perfect counter shot there but there might have an opportunity to
15:26capitalize here you see Draskovic just kind of going for a walk maybe taking a breather
15:31and as we pointed out when this fight is that long range particularly when Draskovic is on the
15:36outside this is a fighter that needs to have his feet set to get work done and on the outside here
15:41McAuliffe is going to win these exchanges 10 times out of 10
15:53four five six jabs in a row there from McAuliffe keeping Draskovic at bay
16:01to the final moments here of round four and a nice pull counter right hand from McAuliffe
16:09nice exclamation mark to dot the end of round four
16:30action here i believe
16:41you know this was one of the another more clear round for McAuliffe there was this one
16:46left hook that uh Draskovic does eventually land but for the most part McAuliffe was able to keep
16:52him at bay and land his one twos that jab has been money all night and i think it might have
16:57looked at strongest in that past round right there
17:12it's round five now underway perhaps the best round of the fight there for Hugo McAuliffe
17:19in round four we'll see if he can build upon that here in round five
17:25so i'm getting his instructions from his trainer Carlos Formento
17:31he's worked with the likes of Cal Brook and Anthony Yigit in the past
17:48if you're watching McAuliffe here today and you're thinking he's really left hand happy
17:53there are a lot of jabs a lot of left hooks he is naturally left-handed he taught himself
17:58to fight as a righty so logically you will see him kind of favoring that left hand a lot of his
18:06power shots or are going to be in the form of that left hook yeah we've seen it go up top and
18:11we've seen it to the body a lot too as uh as Draskovic attempts to come inside we see it now
18:17you know Hugo looks like he's he's really got his rhythm going he's he's on the outside of the ring
18:22but it doesn't seem like he's worried at all about the pressure coming forward he's just
18:25sticking with his game plan we talked about that that great left hand again
18:32the defense there from McAuliffe just catching those wide hooks from Draskovic on his elbows
18:40this is part of the learning experience for a young fighter too as well Adam you see an opponent
18:46like Draskovic who's making things very rough very physical and a lot of these sequences maybe
18:52look rougher look scarier than they actually are the ability to just stand in the fire and
18:57understand okay I can catch these shots he's aggressive but I'm fine and it's not letting
19:02him get off scot-free with anything either you know you're not seeing seven eight nine punch
19:06combinations from McAuliffe you know there is some answers coming back from Draskovic so it's it's
19:11good rounds here for a guy like McAuliffe who's just coming up this is only his 10th Pearl appearance
19:16so to have a tough guy like this across from you it's invaluable especially we talked about
19:22with the you know some of the training resources he might have throughout the year
19:26this counter right hand over the top looks for that left hook to the body but gets wrapped up
19:33by Draskovic his output is slowing just a little bit here in the latter half of the
19:38fight as you see McAuliffe starting to back him up once more good left hook up top there for McAuliffe
19:4726 year old fresh prince of Monaco getting some good work in here
20:05against a 20 plus fight veteran in Bogdan Draskovic
20:12another solid round of work there from McAuliffe we talked about the fresh prince of Monaco it
20:16looks like possibly the fresh prince of round five there looking as good as he did in round one
20:27able to stay composed which again we talked about Draskovic maybe not coming
20:31not coming forward with the speed and the gusto that he did in the earlier rounds and
20:36allowed McAuliffe to really open up and look you know very relaxed and smooth in that fifth round
20:47yeah
21:11it's round six underway and i've called a lot of fights in my time but i'm not sure
21:15i've ever seen the technique of just putting the ice bag in the fighters right in the shorts yeah
21:21i guess one way to liven up Bogdan Draskovic here for the sixth and final round it's true
21:28something something works something different works for everybody right as they say
21:38this round starting very similar to kind of every other round we've seen at least at the
21:42beginning Draskovic starts to come forward off the top but McAuliffe seems all right to just
21:46stick to the outside and and pop forward with his jab and then we see later in the rounds he starts
21:51to take take control of the of the ring a little bit more and we see the fight dictated on his
21:56pace nice body shot there from McAuliffe i think McAuliffe is enjoying the dimensions of this ring
22:04here tonight at skanderbeg square which is quite big uh it's there's a lot of room for McAuliffe
22:10to use here tonight and he has used all of it he's really developed a rhythm here particularly
22:17in the latter half of the fight as you pointed out just kind of using his feet getting Draskovic
22:22a little bit frustrated when he stops coming forward he just takes a step forward lands
22:26like that big right hand there and the pullback as well
22:29see not panicked at all when Draskovic is coming forward hands are always in the right place
22:36his feet are moving not a stationary target
22:46a little more movement from McAuliffe this round maybe thinking about
22:52obviously winning this fight but he's not really thinking about it
22:56certainly McAuliffe looking to get busy here in 2024 and live up to the hype that Mr. Bob
23:05Arum bestowed upon him he said that he has everything it takes to be a superstar in the
23:10sport and usher in an era of boxing in Monaco where of course we've seen
23:15some of the best fighters in the world and some of the best wrestlers in the world
23:18to be a superstar in the sport and usher in an era of boxing in Monaco where of course we've seen
23:25plenty of fights staged but no fighters coming out of Monaco and all it takes is one all it
23:31takes is one and no doubt already a very flush market for boxing over the last 10 years or so
23:38you know they'd love to have a fight headlined by this man in the coming years as well
23:44you know this is a perfect fight for a guy like McAuliffe where he's at in his career
23:52you know it's not by any means an easy fight you know you're not just letting him go out
23:56and just go through the motions and just have another run up the mill you know fight as we
24:01see sometimes when they're trying to build up a prospect this was by no means an easy fight
24:05while the scorecards might not dictate that we might see a 6-0 here across all three this was
24:10by no means an easy fight you know Draskomich came to fight and it seemed like at least he
24:14thought he was in this fight to win you know he's not out just to collect a paycheck no they both
24:18earned their paycheck here tonight some good rounds for Hugo McAuliffe who will now await
24:25the scorecards and no doubt looking forward to celebrating at the Nona Marie pizza parlor in
24:32Monaco where he always celebrates with his girlfriend where they have the Hugo McAuliffe
24:37pizza on the menu as we take a look at the highlights from round six
24:43we saw a quick nice straight hand straight right hand there from Hugo again there's a lot of the
24:48same he seemed like he was able to figure out the forward pressure from Draskomich was able to stick
24:54to his game plan you know a strong jab a quick right hand to follow when needed and you know
24:59stayed out of any unnecessary danger no wild exchanges and just you know as far as game plans
25:05go that's about as good as it gets it has a good clean work from Hugo McAuliffe will
25:12await the scorecards now and anticipates improving to 10 and 0
25:20as the 26 year old continues to climb up the ladder
25:25and get on pace with some of his amateur contemporaries
25:29mentioned that big win of the amateurs over Tiger Johnson who's in there with Pat McCormick and many
25:34more it's a nice international exposure for him here tonight as well
25:42as we send it down to the center of the ring to make this one official
26:04judges
26:179 56
26:27so Hugo McAuliffe picks up the unanimous decision of victory or the scores of 59 55 twice 58 56
26:38the judges seeing it competitively I'm sure there are people at home who just had an outright
26:43shutout but again it speaks to the utility of this fight for McAuliffe the fact that someone's
