Preserve independence, maintain sovereignty and peace, says Anwar

Malaysia’s independence, secured by its founding father and first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, must always be preserved to ensure that the country remains independent and sovereign, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

His speech text was read out by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at the Commemoration of Statesman Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj on Monday (August 8).

00:31The country under the leadership of Tengku as Prime Minister,

00:55Tengku has truly built, shaped, and taken steps for Malaysia to become a successful country,

01:09Tun Abdul Razak, in his speech at the National Assembly in February 1972,
01:15also acknowledged the greatness of Tengku,
01:17by saying that Tengku has emerged at an important time in the history of our nation's struggle.
01:25The theme of the 1 million servants is very apt to spread the sacrifice, contribution,
01:34and service of this independent fatherland and this fatherland of Malaysia.
01:38Therefore, the independence inherited by His Excellency Tengku must always be maintained,
01:45as Al-Mahmoud Tengku Abdur Rahman said in the 1967 Independence Conference.
01:52I quote the words of His Excellency Tengku,
01:56Our country must remain independent and sovereign,
02:01and its people must be safe, prosperous, and prosperous forever.
02:09Now it is our responsibility to maintain this independence
02:13and give meaning to a free and sovereign country.
02:18This is in line with the desire of the government to give birth to a civilized Malaysia
