00:00I thank my friend, the Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee, for allowing me this time, Mr.
00:08Speaker. I rise in support of H.R. 7700, the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act
00:15or SUDS Act. Time and again, we've seen the Biden administration's radical rush-to-green
00:21agenda negatively impact the lives of hardworking Americans, including their freedom to choose
00:26what household appliances meet their needs, first gas stoves and now dishwashers and refrigerators.
00:34It is hard to believe that under this administration, the most regulated space in America is the
00:41kitchen and the laundry room.
00:44Under the guise of energy efficiency, this administration is issuing new standards that
00:48will significantly drive up costs, reduce reliability and jeopardize the availability
00:53of numerous home appliances. House Republicans will continue to lead on legislative solutions
01:00that protect American families from out-of-touch, top-down rules.
01:06The American people want choice. When I talk to my constituents in Georgia's 12th District,
01:12they want relief from record inflation and rising prices. Yet the Biden administration
01:18is moving forward with issuing standards that could increase the upfront costs of
01:22dishwashers by 28 percent and the upfront costs of refrigerators by 25 percent, according
01:29to the DOE's own analysis.
01:33President Biden's war on American energy is crushing families' budgets nationwide,
01:38which is why I am proud to support the SUDS Act, as well as legislation being debated
01:45later today that will protect affordability, quality and choice for residential dishwashers,
01:50refrigerators and freezers.
01:53I urge my colleagues to vote yes on these bills. And with that, I yield back.
