00:00Unity Walk, the supporters of the PUV Modernization Program and the Senate Resolution regarding the suspension of the PUVMP.
00:09We will discuss this with the Road Transport and Infrastructure Undersecretary, Andy Ortega of the Department of Transportation.
00:19Usec Andy, good afternoon.
00:22Good afternoon to you, Jan. Good afternoon.
00:26Usec, first of all, this is Unity Walk, the supporters of the PUV Modernization Program. What is your reaction regarding this?
00:37First of all, this was the result of their reaction when the Senate hearing took place.
00:45I was there and I saw the faces of the operatives and corporations.
00:50They were sad and then eventually, they were angry. They were surprised.
00:54It's good that they are helping the program and they had the idea to suspend it.
01:00Fast forward, they had Unity Walk today and many of them are expressing how they feel on the suggestion of our good Senators.
01:14Usec Andy, how many operators and drivers do you think are moving here in Unity Walk and what is their intention?
01:23Good afternoon, Commissioner. Hundreds of cooperatives and corporations are coming together.
01:31We're talking, of course, the majority are here in NCR and Karabik Bayan.
01:38But I know that those who came from Visayas, Cebu and Mindanao are the leaders of this group.
01:46They represent their organization.
01:50They did not declare a shutdown.
01:53What they declared is Unity Walk because they feel that after how many years of hearings,
02:00of the things that happened because of the program, they felt that they were not heard.
02:07That's why they made a move to achieve what they want, which basically is to continue the program.
02:17Are there any commuters affected by this Unity Walk, Usec?
02:22What is the assistance of DOTR to the commuters affected?
02:27We always have an inter-agency task force.
02:33It is assisted by DOTR, MMDA, LTFRB and the police.
02:38There are people who are ready to ride for free.
02:42But from what I gathered, after Unity Walk, they were able to reach Balacanang.
02:48I'm sure they felt the traffic from Welcome to Mindola.
02:55But the good news is, I think they decided that they did not use their vehicles,
03:02which they planned to be part of the rally to avoid more traffic.
03:07It looks like they just walked and did not use their vehicles.
03:12My feedback is that the report of the inter-task force agency was good.
03:18It was controlled like a Unity Walk.
03:23I think they were effective in relaying what they wanted to say to everyone.
03:30Is DOTR planning to assist the Senate in clarifying this?
03:36What will our countrymen expect from DOTR after this?
03:41Yes com. What happened is, right after our Senate President Escudero spoke at the hearing last week,
03:49the Secretary Bautista himself immediately sent a letter through DOTR on Monday.
03:57Because of the concerns that were raised, maybe we thought that DOTR has things that are not clear.
04:06So we analyzed the program and the things that were passed by the program.
04:12The meetings changed and definitely improvement.
04:16Most especially, bottom line, 83 percent agreed.
04:21Maybe that's what needs to be clarified through the letter that Secretary Bautista sent,
04:28to know that this is a program that embraces our big sector in transportation.
04:36All right. Thank you very much for your time,
04:40Road Transport and Infrastructure Undersecretary Andy Ortega of the Department of Transportation.
04:46Again, thank you very much. Thank you.
