00:00Classes will open in many schools for the school year 2024-2025.
00:07And that's because of the heavy rain this July.
00:12That's the Nangka Elementary School in Marikina.
00:16The live situation there is from our co-host, Marin Ugmal.
00:21Maris.
00:24Good morning, Egan.
00:26We're still here at Nangka Elementary School in Marikina City
00:29for the opening of classes for the school year 2024-2025.
00:34You can see behind me, there are a lot of students.
00:40They're here in their gym, in their covered court
00:45to prepare for their flag-raising ceremony later at 7 a.m.
00:53More than 3,700 students are expected to be enrolled
00:59from Kinder to Grade 6 here at Nangka Elementary School.
01:04This is the third most enrolled school in the entire city of Marikina.
01:09To find out how they prepared for their return to school,
01:14we're joined by President Wilfredo Padua, the principal of Nangka Elementary School.
01:19Good morning to you, President Padua.
01:22Good morning, Ms. Maris.
01:23And of course, good morning to our Nangka Elementary School community,
01:29to our superintendent, Dr. Iles, who is here today,
01:33and to all the students of Nangka Elementary School and the parents who are here today.
01:39First of all, we saw that there are a lot of students here.
01:45So, I will ask you first, because you had a week of extension before entering.
01:53How did you manage the time given to you
01:56so that the classrooms used as evacuation centers are really organized?
02:02Yes, Ms. Maris.
02:03We really struggled with our evacuation
02:07because our school became an evacuation site.
02:10This did not become a barrier for us to prepare today
02:14because, of course, the SDO of Marikina helped in organizing our facilities,
02:20our LGU, like our mayor, and our Baragay LGU that helped.
02:25So, we set aside time on Saturday and Sunday to prepare for the opening of this class.
02:31Sir, how difficult was the cleaning?
02:33Because I want to know, was this school flooded?
02:37Actually, it was not flooded, Ms. Maris.
02:39We are very thankful to God that we were not flooded.
02:42So, this was used as an evacuation site for our students and parents.
02:47How difficult was the cleaning?
02:48It was a bit difficult.
02:50Because, of course, the dust came from below.
02:52After they cleaned, their boots got dirty.
02:56So, it was a bit of a struggle.
02:59How was the condition of the school during the flood?
03:03You said it was not flooded, but how was the situation?
03:06And when did the evacuees leave here
03:09to give time for you to clean in time for the opening of classes?
03:15Yes, all the classrooms were used.
03:19So, the situation here was really bad.
03:23But because the parents, our LGUs, and our mayor helped in cleaning the school,
03:32the transition was really fast.
03:35So, we are ready today.
03:38One of the concerns of the school is that there are a lot of enrollees in Marikina.
03:42What preparations did you do?
03:47You said that it was very difficult to clean the boots.
03:52Yes. So, for the enrollment, we have a Facebook page.
03:58We also have an online registration.
04:00And up to this day, we are accepting our enrollees, our transferees.
04:06What about the missed days?
04:08Because the other schools throughout the country started on July 29.
04:13You and the other schools that were also affected,
04:18in the places that were affected by the floods,
04:21will start on August 5.
04:24So, what about the missed days?
04:25Yes, Ms. Maris, we don't have any problems here.
04:28Because our SDO, Marikina, has makeup classes being held.
04:34Every Saturday.
04:35But this is not sudden.
04:37So, of course, on Saturdays, there will be classes.
04:41Then, alternately, there will be classes until the missed days are over.
04:46All right. We wish you all the best, Sir Padua.
04:49And of course, our students are very excited.
04:53They are just waiting for their flag-raising ceremony at 7 p.m.
04:57And later, their enrollment will start.
05:01It's very obvious that they are very excited to enroll,
05:05together with all the other students throughout the country.
05:08Again, we wish you all the best.
05:10Thank you very much for inviting Wilfredo Padua,
05:15the principal of Nangkalaman Free School.
05:18That is the latest situation.
05:20From Marikina City, back to the studio.
05:31Tune in to JMA Pinoy TV and www.jmanews.tv.
