00:00Well there's been some exciting action in gymnastics today as well and for that
00:04we can cross now to Selena Sykes who's standing by for us at Bercy Arena.
00:08Algeria's Kayla Neymour has done it. She's won the gold in asymmetric bars.
00:13What a stunning result for the 17 year old.
00:17That's a right Jenny. The 17 year old gymnast has made a history getting
00:23Algeria's first ever medal at the Olympics in gymnastics and she did it in
00:28quite some style here at the Bercy Arena. She came in to the final on the
00:32uneven bars as the big favorite. She got the biggest score in qualifying and she
00:37was under pressure here today at Bercy Arena by the world champion Kui Kuyang
00:42who performed a stunning routine herself to score 15.5. The French
00:48Algerian coming into her routine under pressure. She knew that she had to
00:53deliver big if she was to beat that score and she did just that. She produced
00:57the routine of her life. An exceptional routine getting 15.7. A massive
01:03score for the uneven bars. She got huge support of course because she is a
01:08French-born gymnast in the Bercy Arena. Lots of cheers as that score came
01:14through as she did her dismount. She looks very emotional and when it was
01:17confirmed that she was the winner there were massive tears of joy for the just
01:2117-year-old gymnast waving the Algerian flag. She gets the gold medal,
01:27Algeria's first medal of this Olympic Games. Finishing ahead of course Kui
01:33Kuyang who finished in the silver and Sunisa Lee the American who got the
01:37bronze. And she's become the first African gymnast to clinch the gold but
01:41she originally planned to represent her home country of France at this year's
01:45Olympics didn't she? That's right Jenny. Until very recently Kelly Nemour was a
01:53French gymnast representing France but that changed just over a year ago
01:59as she had a feud with the French Gymnastics Federation. There were
02:03tensions between her family and the Federation over the changing of the
02:08location for her training and then it all got to the final straw as the
02:14young gymnast got an inflammation to her knee after having surgery and
02:18thinking that she could compete again having got the all-clear from her doctor
02:22the French Federation Gymnastics. Dr. Feld did not want to give her the
02:27all-clear so she decided to take another way out and represent Algeria. She
02:33has Algerian descent through her father's family and this shouldn't take
02:36away of course it is a big loss of course for the French they have got no
02:39medals in the gymnastics but that shouldn't take anything away from what
02:42is an exceptional achievement for this 17 year old she's just 17 years old so
02:47bright future ahead of her in gymnastics. All right Selena Sykes reporting for us
02:51from the Bercy Arena in Paris thank you very much for that update.
