00:00:00Today's episode of the mark Titus show it's the two biggest questions in the world of basketball right now number one could Simone Biles dunk
00:00:06A basketball it is tearing this country apart a lot of opinions out there
00:00:11I'm gonna I'm gonna do what I always do on this show and just get down to the truth
00:00:15And I'm gonna shoot you guys straight
00:00:16I don't always say the popular thing Tate
00:00:18But I will I will say the right thing and I have the definitive take on whether Simone Biles
00:00:25Could actually dunk a basketball number two topic that everybody's talking about everybody
00:00:28You can't go anywhere in this country meet a basketball fan and not hear him talk about it
00:00:32Joe Lenardi has put out his preseason bracket ology
00:00:36I think he technically put it out before August 1st, so he put out a July bracket ology
00:00:43Cincinnati a five-seed in Denver
00:00:45Hmm. I don't know. We'll talk about that. Is that too high?
00:00:50Is it too low a lot of thoughts about I'm kidding of course the United States men's national
00:00:55Basketball team still can't quite figure out what to call him team USA
00:01:00To an O to an O in the Olympics and as it turns out Kevin Durant is is all the difference that was
00:01:05What we were worried about with with all these wake-up calls and exhibition play
00:01:09Would USA pull their head out of their ass and start playing better basketball?
00:01:13Or would it just be as simple as like plug Kevin Durant and who's probably the greatest international basketball player ever?
00:01:20And just let him be awesome, and maybe that was it. Maybe that was the solution
00:01:24We beat Serbia rather easily we we handled South Sudan
00:01:28A team that that almost beat us in an exhibition game a lot to a lot to parse out
00:01:34You know like like I've always been saying there's always like a disclaimer with the USA talk like I I understand that we
00:01:41You know you're sort of splitting hairs when you're talking about
00:01:44Definitive wins like this and trying to find problems or trying to figure out like which tweaks you would make in the lineup and all
00:01:49That sort of stuff, but it is
00:01:51It is interesting that an MVP from two years ago did not even get off the bench in an Olympic game
00:01:57that is interesting it is interesting that the
00:02:00The guy who did not win finals MVP, but is the face of the Boston Celtics franchise?
00:02:07Just won an NBA championship was named first team all NBA in the first game against Serbia Jason Tatum
00:02:12I'm talking about obviously did not get off the bench these things are interesting
00:02:16I think that's what makes Team USA so compelling to if you're someone who's like
00:02:19I don't understand why people give a shit about this. They're going to win by 20 every game
00:02:23It's stuff like that because I think that only only in this environment. Can you see?
00:02:29the best players in the world literally the you know like
00:02:32You have the 12 of the best players in the world all playing on one team and to watch the power dynamics at play to
00:02:38Watch the decisions that are made to watch Steve Kerr. You know try to keep everybody happy, but at the same time
00:02:45Realize that like you can't just throw out any lineup and beat anybody you can't have that much hubris
00:02:49You do have to take into account how guys are playing and how they fit together and all that sort of stuff
00:02:54So those are the I think and beat and Tatum are the big talking points after two games because Team USA is looking good
00:03:00Not everybody's looking good though Tatum and Embiid both get a DM
00:03:04Tyrese Halliburton did as well even though that wasn't quite as newsworthy
00:03:08Both get a DNP
00:03:10LeBron and Steph aren't playing particularly well, that's sort of interesting how much it's gonna matter
00:03:15I don't know
00:03:16But uh it that dynamic all is interesting to me because you have Steve Kerr the head coach of the Warriors and Steph Curry's is
00:03:22Legendary player who's not playing well right now. How will they handle that down the road?
00:03:27There's a lot to a lot to talk about there
00:03:29Maybe a little three on three
00:03:31Which is which is an event that's going on in Olympics right now three on three basketball that I think people are
00:03:36Stumbling upon and I don't know how many are stumbling away from or how many are sticking with it or whatever else
00:03:43But uh, we might talk a little bit about that and Gordon Hayward retired. Shout out to shout out to Gordon Hayward
00:03:49Let me talk about Gordon Hayward a little bit
00:03:51I'll tell you this year with me and we're gonna have some fun talking mostly Team USA
00:03:55But I gotta say like the bulk of the show might be Cincinnati being a 5c in Denver and Joe Linardi's priest
00:04:00I am excited. I love that I
00:04:03Talk out both sides of my mouth my mouth of this stuff because I see I see like a Joe Linardi
00:04:08Bracket ology pop up on my timeline in July and I laugh and I go what the fuck Joe
00:04:13What are we doing? And you know what else I do?
00:04:14I click on it and I scroll through it and I take it very seriously
00:04:18So I'm a hypocrite and I'm eating the slop just like a lot of you are um enough of that. Let's get into it
00:04:24All right, Tate Team USA 2-0 and in pool play and group play and in anything
00:04:30Group play did they call pool play group stage group stage. We're 2-0
00:04:35Again beat Serbia. We beat South Sudan two teams that we are playing again
00:04:40we played them an exhibition play which obviously didn't count for anything except a little money and
00:04:45the Nikes pockets I guess for
00:04:48Advertising on the USA showcase or whatever get the drama going. Yeah. Yeah get the drama going a little bit
00:04:52They did a good job of the team
00:04:53Yes, I did a good job of making us of giving us something to talk about a great job because we were
00:04:59Rightfully I might say like what else you like there is a sense that like okay when the real games rolled around they're going to
00:05:04be fine and I
00:05:07Sort of believe that but also when when
00:05:10You're in a position like going into the Olympics and you you have the data
00:05:14All you can go off is the data you have and you're like I've watched this team play a few games now
00:05:18I heard about I didn't watch but I heard about the game
00:05:21They played against the select team with the Cooper flag team, you know when that became a thing
00:05:24It sounds like they're not playing and from what I'm seeing and what I'm hearing it looks and sounds like they're not playing good basketball
00:05:30Right now. I'm looking around the rest of the world
00:05:32I'm like, they're better and you're seeing the stats about the the dream team late against the five NBA players and USA is playing against
00:05:3960 or whatever it is and you're like, all right, we got to get our heads out of our asses
00:05:43But I'll be damned they did and so far two games in
00:05:47Serbia and South Sudan that we've already played them
00:05:50Now Serbia in the exhibition if I remember right like we kind of handled them in the second half a little bit
00:05:56But South Sudan was the was the the game that was played on Wednesday
00:05:59That was a big one for me because I think the the the tone was set out of the gate that we're not gonna fuck
00:06:06Around this time. We're gonna play some defense and they locked up
00:06:09Guys, not everybody played well, we can talk about that
00:06:12But that was that was refreshing was at least they they respected the South Sudan team and correct me if I'm wrong here, but
00:06:18No, I don't think anyone was saying after the exhibition games that this US team is in trouble of losing to South Sudan
00:06:25But those exhibition games whether you want to say we were trying hard or working on lineups or whatever
00:06:29It was they were a wake-up call and that was no more evident than watching us play South Sudan the other right, right
00:06:35So no, I don't I think credit to us credit to this podcast. We might have done it
00:06:39We kind of I think we might have we might have helped wake them up a little bit. Yeah
00:06:45It's not it's not that I was worried again, like you said that we're gonna lose to South Sudan it was more that uh, I
00:06:51Was worried that I was gonna be I was gonna be deprived of like a great summer basketball
00:06:56Basically, I was worried that like we were gonna maybe win gold
00:06:59But I would look back on it just be like that fucking suck dude. Like we kind of know this is fun
00:07:04I love everything. I'm having so much fun
00:07:06I'm having fun
00:07:06And like we said the the exhibition schedule has added to the fun, right?
00:07:11Because if we come in here and we handle Serbia and then we handle South Sudan
00:07:14It's like hey, that's what we're supposed to do
00:07:15There was time and there's still things that are happening with which I'm sure we'll get to people sitting out and coaching decisions and everything
00:07:22That is making this very fun to be apart. Yeah. Yeah, and the basketball has been fun
00:07:26I mean like honestly when they when they're locked in and
00:07:28The offense is gonna be the offense when you have that many guys
00:07:32That talented they're going to get their points
00:07:35For me, it's been such a joy to watch them play defense to watch guys like buy-in on a
00:07:40in a FIBA
00:07:42situation and maybe we talked about that a little bit because that became sort of a discussion point Durant was getting on Twitter and
00:07:47talking back and forth guys about the FIBA versus NBA rules, but FIBA is a different game and
00:07:53You know
00:07:53if you were if you were a big-time cynic you would say that there's a fear that the the USA
00:07:59NBA guys are divas and when they get in this FIBA setting they're gonna be soft not the right word
00:08:04They're gonna be just bitching at the refs like they do in the NBA. They're gonna be
00:08:09you know like
00:08:10They're not gonna want to do the dirty work that it takes to like win basketball games sometimes against say a Serbia or you know
00:08:17Like maybe we have to play Canada down there so far what I've seen. There's a lot of buy-in
00:08:21There's a lot of like I'm here to fucking guard and and you know
00:08:25Like Derek White's a great example that like him him being added to the team. He's a guy who
00:08:30Absolutely knows his role plays it very very well
00:08:32I but that's been that's been the joy for me to watch is like to see guys that
00:08:37Frankly, there are times in like mid-january where I throw on my television
00:08:41I'm watching an NBA game and I'm like this sucks that that guy doesn't care about defense, you know
00:08:45I'm not I don't want to say they don't play defense in the NBA
00:08:48But I think if you're arguing that they that they truly give a fuck every possession. I think you're equally as crazy, right?
00:08:55So sometimes you catch them on the wrong night and you're like, man
00:08:58I don't like that but to see all those guys like buying in and I will I will give LeBron James
00:09:03I will honestly give him a hundred percent credit for that. I think that is he is the clear leader of this team
00:09:08He might he might not be the head coach on the bench
00:09:10He has set the tone how important this Olympics is and I think our effort
00:09:15It is not what you see on a nightly basis in the NBA. It is we're playing for our country
00:09:19We're playing for a gold medal and I think it reflects his leadership
00:09:22Yeah, which is why we gave him the American flag and made him and George Washington coming down the Potomac
00:09:28I was pretty sweet, but I hate that it rained that was that kind of took the took away we got a I nowadays
00:09:34Let's let's just know he retired
00:09:36I Brandon Walker poison my brain to like every time every time I say the the letters AI he makes an Allen
00:09:43I didn't see that one coming. He makes it out. He does that to me and then now
00:09:47It annoyed the fuck out of me. So now I do it
00:09:49Yeah, just like it's like your dad making a dad joke. Yeah. Yeah, exactly
00:09:54And I hate that I've become I'm becoming Brandon Walker
00:09:57But anyway, Kevin Durant has been a content goldmine the last I'd say month really cuz like not playing in the exhibitions
00:10:04Gave him made him a talking point and we talked about it a little bit that like
00:10:09Is USA is USA struggling because the guys aren't playing well together
00:10:14Is it because Joellen beat is starting and he just like is a square peg in a round hole like this
00:10:19Does not seem to be a good fit is
00:10:22Kerr tinkering at the lineups too much
00:10:23He was doing like some platoon shit and these exhibitions or is it as simple as just plug Kevin Durant in and we'll be fine
00:10:31So we were talking that was like a talking point and then Durant is now healthy
00:10:35He's playing and against Serbia
00:10:37He comes in and has like basically a perfect game
00:10:39Which is also gonna be a fun talking point because he I think he I think he was already in that position
00:10:45But I think it's definitive now
00:10:47Assuming he doesn't completely fuck it up from here and like we don't even metal cuz Kevin Durant was a bozo
00:10:52which is not going to happen, but
00:10:54If that were like assuming that doesn't happen
00:10:57Kevin Durant is gonna be go down as the greatest international basketball player of all his and and I
00:11:02Sit here this this morning and we've got our chests out USA. We're to know we're doing what we said
00:11:07We're going to let's not forget though first game against Serbia here in the Olympics
00:11:11They got out and they got after us a little bit. Yeah, they got out and got after us vibes
00:11:15We're not great KD subs in. Yep, and KD single-handled
00:11:19I mean his he was heat checking and then he was heat checking his heat check
00:11:22Yeah, and they were all go and even the last play of the half
00:11:25It's like he catches it off balance. He's got turn around and then that goes in
00:11:29So yeah, I feel great about where the USA is and no one can say that, you know
00:11:33Hey, this is exactly we thought they were gonna be
00:11:35KD put us on the back in the first half there when we were getting beat by Serbia. Yeah. Yeah, he did
00:11:41What if KD just played okay, there's a hypothetical for you in July I'm not I do think yeah, yeah
00:11:47I don't think Serbia had the horses which is which is ironic because their best player is a horse
00:11:54Yeah, he's a horse guy
00:11:55he's a
00:11:57Literally a horse horse guy. Oh horse guy. I've got a hair guy
00:12:00And I'll go on horse. He's literally I didn't I hadn't heard this theory but point
00:12:05Oh, well Durant was eight for eight in the first half
00:12:07Yeah, and when it took it from like I know, you know
00:12:10You got to withstand the USA going this group then this group in this group, which they probably weren't gonna do. Anyways
00:12:16KD made sure that yeah, I I it has become evident
00:12:20It already was but to see it on display like I I love the second unit
00:12:24But then I realized I think I just love whoever I don't think when I say I love the second unit
00:12:30It doesn't mean I love Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant
00:12:33And
00:12:35It means I love literally whoever is coming off the bench of any USA game and the reason why is because
00:12:41they
00:12:42We have depth that no other team has so like every game you watch
00:12:46That does seem to be like the the game starts and it feels like the starters the the LeBrons and Steph who?
00:12:51Have not really been playing well
00:12:54They're doing a lot of feeling out and then both teams kind of start going to their bench and when that happens
00:13:00Serbia's bringing in
00:13:02I
00:13:03Forget their names. I forget their names. Damn. I had it on the tip of my tongue, too
00:13:07I had I had their whole bench on my tongue. Oh
00:13:10But yeah, they're bringing they're bringing in dudes
00:13:12You kind of had never heard of and we're bringing in fucking all NBA caliber guys
00:13:15And that's when it becomes really fun
00:13:17think about preparing for the United States because you have to
00:13:20You have a very small chance of withstanding our original storm of two of the best basketball players to play ever
00:13:26Yeah, five all NBA starters. Okay. Now we get to the bench
00:13:31Good luck guarding aunt. Yeah, auntie Davis might be coming in, right?
00:13:34Jason Tatum every once in a while might come in Kevin Durant coming into the game
00:13:38Yeah, the fact that Jason Tatum and Joel Embiid have have DMPs is crazy. That's crazy to hell. Let's talk about that
00:13:45Yeah, so game one
00:13:47The big story is that Tatum and Halliburton don't play but nobody really talked about Halliburton cuz Halliburton I love Halliburton
00:13:54I'm a Pacers guy. So like he's he's awesome and I
00:13:58Fucking love him
00:13:58but at the same time I think
00:14:01You know if you once the roster was said if you said that Tyrese Halliburton is the last guy off the bench
00:14:05I don't think people would be like what huh, right? I don't think that's exactly stunning people
00:14:10But Tatum so Tatum became the talking point Tatum doesn't even play and it both
00:14:17Boggles the mind to have a first-team all-nba guy who just won a championship
00:14:22And and he didn't win MVP and I've been critical of Tatum and you know through the playoffs
00:14:27And I don't think he should have won MVP, you know, we did the show together
00:14:30We both wrote down who we think should win. We talked about it at length
00:14:32I don't think he should have won MVP
00:14:34But having said that like he did play well in the playoffs
00:14:37It's not like Tatum's on like a stinker of a run as a basketball player
00:14:40So it but it boggles the mind in that regard, but then you know, you do start thinking about it. You're like
00:14:45He's not playing. He's not gonna play over over LeBron. He's not gonna play over Durant Anthony Edwards and Devin Booker
00:14:51I think if have they're not better NBA players than him, but they have been better
00:14:57They've been better FIBA players and then you could argue like if you're a Tim rules or Suns fan
00:15:00Maybe you do want to have that argument. I don't
00:15:03the point is like
00:15:05They have kind of been better FIBA players than it like if you've been watching the exhibition games
00:15:09Like Tatum has not been playing great and Edwards and Booker both been really really good on both ends of the floor
00:15:15so
00:15:16When you when you flesh it out like that and you're like there are only so many minutes and you have all these these perimeter
00:15:21Type guys ahead of him it kind of like it kind of makes sense that he doesn't play
00:15:25But then I go back to full circle. I'm like, how the fuck did you get five minutes?
00:15:29He doesn't get five minutes. And also I think one thing that optically
00:15:33Kills this especially for the egos involved would be
00:15:37You know Derek white and drew holiday are out there right getting minutes like this would be you talking about Halliburton, you know
00:15:43Not getting minutes, but no one freaked out. Well, Andrew Nembhard wasn't out there, right playing 20 minutes, right?
00:15:48So Jason Tatum is the leader of his team
00:15:50If not, Jalen Brown, neither of them are playing for Team USA and Derek White's out there playing who two weeks ago
00:15:57We were saying we're the fourth best. Yeah, the Boston Celtics have two guys
00:16:00There's a Boston Celtics tandem. That's getting a lot of run in the the Olympics for Team USA
00:16:05And neither one of them are Jalen Brown or Jason Tatum
00:16:08That's crazy, which speaks to how deep the Celtics are which we were talking about the entire playoffs, right?
00:16:12It's it's not just these two guys. It's not one guy. It's like the whole fucking team is good. But
00:16:16Yeah, that's the part that's just like hard to compute
00:16:20But it was it was also made worse by Steve Kerr like almost being befuddled as to how it happened like in the the postgame
00:16:28Messaging was just like yeah. Yeah. Wow shit. Yeah, like did kind of got away from me, you know
00:16:35Yeah, what an idiot? I can't believe I did that. What's his what listen?
00:16:40I look at this through the coaches lens. Like I I I feel like he looks like a clown right now
00:16:45I feel like he looks to me like a like a like a eighth grade basketball coach that played what he thought
00:16:52Was the best lineup?
00:16:53Yeah
00:16:53And then mom and dad in the crowd asked him for a parent meeting the next day and then all of a sudden the next game
00:16:59Jason Tatum starts and they first play the game. They run a little LeBron backdoor to Jason Tatum. They did. That's crazy
00:17:06That is a little crazy
00:17:08basketball, but I
00:17:10Criticize him. Yes
00:17:12Do
00:17:13Do you think it's sort of a thankless job? Do you think it's cuz cuz there's there's two
00:17:19There's more than two ways to handle it
00:17:21But there's like let's work on a binary scale of how you can be the head coach of Team USA
00:17:24You can either be the cutthroat guy who's like I do not give a fuck about your feelings
00:17:29I am here to win basketball games and I will put
00:17:32I can have all five all in first team all NBA guys on this roster and I'll bury him on the bench if they're not
00:17:37And and my question they're obviously you can't do that cuz what's in it for Steve Kerr to do that?
00:17:42Yeah
00:17:43Like what's in it for Steve Kerr to to ruin these guys egos reputations and be the bad guy, right?
00:17:49You can win either way LeBron has three turnovers in a row say Steve Kerr's like get your fucking ass out of here
00:17:54You know like you could like a nice
00:17:57High school coach. Yeah, you don't need to treat LeBron James like Bob Knight probably did that in 84 Olympics if I'm being honest
00:18:02That's probably how he coached the 84 Olympics. Um, but
00:18:06You could do I'm that's an extreme example
00:18:08But like you could you could take on that sort of persona and be like, I'll play I won't play five guys
00:18:13We'll go with seven man rotation and that's like I'm fine doing that because that's that's how we're gonna win these games
00:18:17Or you could go the other way and be a participation ass
00:18:21Trope participation trophy ass coach that just like rolls them all out there and gives everybody equal burn and you're John Calipari in
00:18:282015 and you got all the talent in the world, but you're so you're so preoccupied with trying to be fair and equitable that
00:18:35You ultimately don't produce the best product from your team, right?
00:18:39Right. I think if you do either one
00:18:41You're a bozo and you're a clown and I think I think Ohio State is sitting in that chair saying
00:18:45Steve Kerr's beat a fucking clown
00:18:46I do think that if if he called heads I'd say he should have called tails if he called tails
00:18:51I should like dude call heads, but I do think that is very valid to say
00:18:56He didn't play Tatum then all of a sudden Tatum starts and then I think that he needs to and then I think he looked
00:19:02Like well, I gotta not play somebody else to make sure like like now we're playing so here's my biggest gripe today
00:19:07There's gonna be one D. Everybody's gonna get a D. Exactly. That's what it is
00:19:10It's like it's like in sixth grade basketball when you have your scheduled time off
00:19:14But I think my biggest gripe and I get it like I'm not mad that he's a coach and I think it's a thankless job
00:19:19And I think it'd be really easy for anyone to do it, but also really hard for it, right?
00:19:23I think the idea that he then turned around and sat and bead and
00:19:28Now has announced that and beat is starting our third game
00:19:32Really gives just like we're very strange and his reasoning his reasoning is fine
00:19:38Which is I'm putting out the best lineups for this team if M
00:19:42Beat is not in the best lineup for this team. We're about to play won't play if teams. I'm okay
00:19:46If Steph Curry's not gonna shoot very well, and he's the one that gets exposed on defense
00:19:51That's the that's her you gonna be the one to bench
00:19:53I'm glad you brought this up because I think that's where it gets really juicy is Steph
00:19:58Against South Sudan I
00:20:00Don't I don't think it's controversial to say I don't I don't think it's debatable
00:20:04Steph Curry was the worst player for team USA on the floor
00:20:07He was he went one for nine his one make was a layup on baseline out of bounds if I remember right
00:20:13Which is kind of a gay I could have made it like you just kind of cut to the bucket and there's a well-executed
00:20:17Play and he just catches and lays it in
00:20:21Didn't hit shit from three. I
00:20:23Don't need it explained to me that Steph Curry can get hot at any moment and like this doesn't mean that he's going to be
00:20:28Cold the rest of the turn like he could get of course, but if Steph's not hitting shots
00:20:33He is a turnstile on defense
00:20:35He was he was atrocious and like the comebacks that that South Sudan like starts
00:20:39You know hitting everything and they're they're penetrating and moving the ball and hitting threes and like it was never in jeopardy
00:20:45We got the big halftime lead. I think they cut it to 12 at one point
00:20:48I don't think it got to single digits. Maybe it did it was 11 was the yeah
00:20:51Yeah, something like that
00:20:53but they made it a little interesting but all of those waves seemed to happen when Steph was on the floor and it was happening
00:20:59because he just like wasn't he wasn't plays the one guy that's not buying in defensively and
00:21:03to your point, that's when the the Tatum DNP against Serbia in the Embiid DNP against
00:21:11South Sudan become really juicy is like if if Steph continues
00:21:16Doing this in the Olympics, which is to say like not hitting shots and not playing defense
00:21:20At some point if Steve Kerr
00:21:23Is a man of character frankly stand by what you think?
00:21:27At some point like like when we play Canada Steph would be a liability the way he played against South Sudan
00:21:32He would be a liability against a team like Canada and we would actually I would seriously no hyperbole
00:21:37Be concerned about our chances of winning a gold medal if like Steph Curry was playing like he did
00:21:43Now again Steph can turn it around and play great
00:21:46But if he if Steph is getting like 25 30 minutes against a Canada and he's playing like he did against South Sudan
00:21:52We actually might be in trouble then we could be in trouble. So and I get it. I'm pulling hairs over here
00:21:57It's state be who you say you are Steve Kerr, which is I hate that. I'm criticizing him
00:22:03I'm so happy for Team USA everything like that
00:22:05but if you're gonna say you're doing what's best for the team and that's why you're sitting out an
00:22:09NBA could have been finals MVP first team. Yeah
00:22:12And it's
00:22:15Yeah, LeBron wasn't very good either LeBron was
00:22:18But LeBron is LeBron's important LeBron will not be getting any DNPs. No. No. Yeah, LeBron will I I don't know why I mean
00:22:27Is it because LeBron is better than Steph?
00:22:29Is that why the price is LeBron's like probably the greatest player of all time?
00:22:33Is that why I don't have a problem with him playing poorly?
00:22:36But no LeBron LeBron will play defense that like LeBron had a little turn. He's been turning the ball over a lot
00:22:41He's there are a lot of moments where he's like, it's not necessarily my turn basketball
00:22:45But it it probably is it's like the cousin of my turn basketball, which is the I'm gonna put on a show basketball
00:22:50It's like the games out of order or out of reach. So like let me now. It's my turn. Let me now. Yeah
00:22:56It is a little my turn, but it's also like LeBron's like I'm gonna give these people show real quick
00:23:00I know they came to see me
00:23:02I know they which they kind of did people in Paris and wherever Abu Dhabi and all these places
00:23:07So he's been there's been a little bit of that where he's not necessarily like always shooting
00:23:11But he's trying to make that I mean he kind of did it to start the game with that behind the back pass to Tatum
00:23:15And it was do you think that was scripted?
00:23:17That was completely script. Yeah, they're trying to date him a bucket. Do you just I don't cuz how you saw well
00:23:22How the burn comes off the bench? Yeah
00:23:25That's what I'm really so I do want to talk about that first play before we get back to him bead though
00:23:31That how is Jason Tatum and he just signed a huge contract and he's all NBA and he's sitting there
00:23:37Does he sit in that locker room and Steve Kerr's like, all right guys, here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna get Jason
00:23:43We gotta get Jason go like how do you not say fuck that and then Steve Kerr like rubs the top of his head?
00:23:47He's like don't worry little guy
00:23:52Steve hit like he hit the point of no return in game one. I can't believe
00:23:56When we're kicking the shit out of Serbia you have to get him in the game, so it's not a story, right?
00:24:01Yeah, but like at some point like so it was just made up in his mind. He wasn't playing him. I don't like that
00:24:07I well
00:24:07yeah, cuz the other question I had coming out of the first game was like if
00:24:11Because people were saying like alright the games out of reach of five minutes left say just rotate
00:24:15What are we doing? Like, how do you not throw him in?
00:24:17If you're Tatum, would you have wanted to go?
00:24:20Walk on minutes great question
00:24:22would you have wanted the
00:24:23When you're up big and you're a senior in high school and then coach is like, all right, you're in are you like fuck that?
00:24:28No way keep playing there were times when I got the walk-on minutes and I didn't want that words
00:24:33There were times like there'd be 17 seconds left and and model would turn to me and be like Morgan
00:24:38I'm like coach there's fucking
00:24:39Like by the time I get up and go walk to check in the game's gonna be over like all right
00:24:45Fine, I'll do you know? Yeah, and it's like I don't need this but
00:24:49I guess that's how club trillion came to be as I've heard a little at this point and I like it and it's if it's
00:24:55So hard to play 12 players
00:24:57Don't take 12. Don't take 12 because what's gonna happen?
00:25:01Is this if you're not in that first group that or the group that you know is gonna play
00:25:07You don't want to sit the bench
00:25:09You don't want to be a first team on be a player and then sit the bench
00:25:11You're gonna stop wanting to play for Team USA and we're losing these guys before 2028 in America
00:25:17We want to keep everyone happy
00:25:18Yeah, cuz I think I think for Steve Kerr. It's less about the X's and O's and it's more about the EGOs really good
00:25:24Really good. Did you clip that last time? Did we do just?
00:25:30Cuz if not, I just give you another one we could try it we could try that again we'd run it back
00:25:36No, so we got Puerto Rico on Saturday 33 point favorite. Yeah, that'll be an easy win and you know, it's it's
00:25:44We're kind of going through the motions a little bit
00:25:46I do think it's gonna get interesting at some point, but uh, I have been enjoying
00:25:50Watching this team play and I will say that I think that's important is that?
00:25:54There I do see a sentiment maybe it's just cuz I'm a sensitive little bitch and I get worked up about stuff too easily
00:26:00But there is there is sort of a sentiment in this country from sports fans are like why even waste your time?
00:26:05Watching this if you know, we're going to win a gold medal, you know, you know
00:26:08We have all the talent all that sort of stuff
00:26:10And there are years in the Olympics when I watch us play basketball and it's like we win gold
00:26:16But I'm not having fun necessarily. I'm like this this team should be so much more
00:26:20It's like we're I don't know that they're just moments where you're like that
00:26:24I wish they could just pull it together a little better
00:26:26I do think this team is playing great and I the first two games. I think they're
00:26:31Fucking a ton of fun to watch. I think they're very selfless
00:26:34And I do I am very much enjoying myself and there are a lot of great personalities
00:26:39and we've talked about it before that you have guys like
00:26:41Duran is a guy who I'm not particularly fond of in the NBA. I don't hate him, but I'm just like I
00:26:47Don't know. He's not a guy that I'm like dying to root for as an NBA player
00:26:51Would go to war for him when he puts on the right now right now exactly puts on the USA
00:26:55Go to work. The best example to me though is Devin Booker who when he's playing for the Phoenix Suns, he is soft
00:27:01He's frankly a pussy. He's he's soft. He only cares about scoring
00:27:05He all I see every time I see him in a Phoenix Suns Jersey is that video where he's getting double teamed and he's
00:27:11Like stop it stop, but that's not him right now when Devin Booker puts on the team USA
00:27:17I'm like beating my chest like that's a fucking guy who gets it
00:27:20You need guys like you need hard-nosed motherfuckers, which is so your team. It is crazy, but like something about that Jersey
00:27:26It's the buy-in really it's when guys are bought in
00:27:29I think it's so fun and it flips my perception on its head of certain players
00:27:33and I think Devin Booker is the best example because I love him on team USA and I kind of I'm like lukewarm at
00:27:39best
00:27:40With about him on the Suns. I think you talked earlier about like what you enjoy watching
00:27:45I know you like the FIBA rules. What I've really enjoyed is this team USA?
00:27:49Like yeah, we got all the all-stars, but it's like almost going back and teaching kids and teaching basketball players
00:27:55You need role players. Yeah, like who's better Derek White or Jason Tatum?
00:27:59Jason Tatum's better player Derek White is not in these discussions of DNPs. Who's better Joel Embiid or BAM out of bio, right?
00:28:07BAM is freaking awesome right now. Yeah. Oh, he's been incredible and it's just like yeah
00:28:11We've got our stars
00:28:13But we've got our pieces Devin Booker being one of them aunt goes in and does exactly what we're asking them to do
00:28:18It's been fun to watch but that's why I think I think Booker on the Suns is is
00:28:23The star I mean plays with Durant
00:28:25But he's still the star and you could argue is like the face of that franchise even though Durant's there because he's been there longer
00:28:31And he's the you know, the guy they drafted and they're bringing up and all that sort of thing and Durant's more of the mercenary
00:28:38But when he's on USA, he does
00:28:41Accept his role and he does take on the attitude of like I'll do whatever you need for me
00:28:44And he's great on both ends of the floor
00:28:47And I think that's ultimately is like you need guys who don't care about their legacy
00:28:51You need guys that like like Derek White if he does not score in a game
00:28:54He's not he's not like concerned or consumed with the idea that Skip Bayless is gonna be fucking
00:29:00Dragging him on Monday morning on a show or something
00:29:04And I'm not saying that these guys actually care about what Skip or anyone else said but like that
00:29:07Just like the whole idea of like I have a legacy to play for you need guys who don't have a legacy
00:29:12Like frankly like you need like Derek White
00:29:14Great player Derek White's not gonna have a legacy like in terms of like like he doesn't have to worry about like
00:29:20It's am I gonna be the third face on the NBA Mount Rushmore am I gonna be you know
00:29:24One of the mine the top ten like he's not he's just like I want to play great basketball
00:29:29People who saw me play are gonna look back on my career very fondly. I'm gonna win a lot of shit
00:29:33I'm gonna make a ton of money. I'm gonna have a great time
00:29:35I'm gonna have a very successful career
00:29:37But there are other guys who and obviously Tatum is one of them Tatum has the talent to be like a legacy type guy
00:29:43So I wonder how much that factors in can't have like can't have five
00:29:46I know it's like the old adage like there's only one basketball
00:29:49We can't throw five guys out there that are worried about what they look like to the right right and it's fun to watch
00:29:55It is that I truly do believe Tatum
00:29:57I don't know I can never figure Tatum out
00:29:59Which is why he's always so fun to talk about cuz it's like he's just he is the ultimate enigma to me like he's he's
00:30:04Obviously talented, but then he also if you're so talented. Why do you suck sometimes?
00:30:09He's he's kind of corny, but he's inoffensive like his his corniness isn't
00:30:14It's not that like who's really the victim of the corniness
00:30:17It's just it's just annoying more than his Kobe stuff, but he's not a bad guy. No no no he's not a bad guy
00:30:22He seems like a great father. He's like like on the surface everything's fine, but like anybody watches him
00:30:27That's not a Celtics fan. It's like yeah
00:30:31You're not really bought in but in beat so I like what I was gonna. I'll finish my point the the
00:30:36Tatum it would be easy for me to just say Tatum is too concerned about his legacy
00:30:41I don't necessarily know that to be true because I don't like Tatum just feels like a little weird
00:30:46In general and I can't quite figure him out in bead. I a hundred percent believe in bead is like in his mind
00:30:52He's like all right. I got six. It's not quite. I gotta get ten a half time
00:30:56I have to get ten a half to give me give me a touch
00:30:57Give me a time I gotta get ten a half that or like I oh shit
00:31:00I'm to assist away from a triple dot like I do think in bead cares about that
00:31:03I think in bead is
00:31:04Caught up with like what people are saying about him what people think about him all that sort of thing
00:31:09And I I do think that that plays into why he's been so so bad for team USA. He's been bad
00:31:14So first of all who on this team. Do you think is acting like you just said and beat is one
00:31:19I would have to think I think LeBron. I think LeBron a little bit, but yeah, yeah
00:31:24Well, not a little bit LeBron is LeBron LeBron's aware of the moment. That's really that's really it
00:31:28I think it's like guys who are aware of the moment and and and
00:31:32What that mean like the Fed or even acknowledge that this is a moment because Derek White's just like I'm playing basketball, dude
00:31:37I don't know what you know, I think but LeBron is like it's
00:31:41It's time
00:31:45Them all going their individual ways and doing their like step is running under
00:31:51It's a great video, but no I think I think there's four people and bead LeBron Steph and KD
00:31:58That we all think we're gonna win the gold either way
00:32:02They need to also play well for their legacy to be enhanced
00:32:06Yeah, like if Drew Holliday doesn't play well, but we still win the gold. No one's out come and saying yeah, but drew didn't play
00:32:12Well, that's right. They'll say that about LeBron James. Yeah, say it about Joe on beat
00:32:16And we're and we'll say about Tatum on there
00:32:18Even the Tatum Tatum's not of their caliber, but that's the whole point is like Tatum plays for the Celtics which are
00:32:24You know, the Celtics are one of the two franchises that NBA media when they have nothing else to talk about
00:32:28They just go to that. Well
00:32:31So he's put it. He's got a spotlight put on him now. They won the championship and and and you know, obviously
00:32:36There's there are a lot of reasons why and he's first team all-ambient. He's a very talented player
00:32:40I don't think he's on the same tier as those guys, but uh, I
00:32:44Do think that like if Tatum can see like Tatum needs to have some good games for it
00:32:49Like he doesn't cuz like the Celtics are still gonna be fine next year. He needs to have some good games to avoid
00:32:55Like if we win gold and Tatum just sucks in every game or is just like so so he wasn't awful against South Sudan
00:33:01But he was the only reason he knew he was out there was because he didn't play the first one
00:33:06Um, and if he has games like that every single literally every single game in this on the path to the gold medal
00:33:12This this is the talking heads. The talking heads are not gonna be you're exactly right this cycle
00:33:17We're going down is kind of bullshit though
00:33:19like like
00:33:20We're sitting here over analyzing Jason Tatum like we did in the NBA finals to where the Celtics were head and shoulders better
00:33:27Like dudes all NBA dudes on the cover of whatever dude just signed a huge contract dudes an NBA champion
00:33:32Is that you and we're like, I'm just saying I'm just saying that we're over here being like
00:33:39But that's always been the thing with Tatum Tate. It's not
00:33:42We're not comparing Tatum to
00:33:44Tyrese Halliburton, we're
00:33:46Jason it's like almost a compliment that you expect more from him
00:33:49Like if you want to knock if you want to be on the LeBron Steph tier, here's what you we need from you
00:33:54We need we need like this level of play in these moments and in the NBA finals
00:33:59You're not playing well in the Olympics. You're not playing well, like
00:34:02Stuck in the Olympics, but we've seen it on like a huge stage over and over and over again
00:34:06And Tatum is not bit like that's what I mean
00:34:08Like that's what makes it so fascinating to me is like if you were to say Jason Tatum sucks or Jason Tatum chokes or Jason
00:34:13Ted you're you're definitively wrong
00:34:15You're just that you're just at that point of an out-and-out hater
00:34:18But at the same time if you're now stacking him up against his idol Kobe and
00:34:22Because that is that's fair when he's that talented that young
00:34:26He's thrust himself into that conversation where it's like, okay, you have a chance to be an all-time great now instead of comparing you
00:34:33To Pascal Siakam. Mm-hmm. I'm going to compare you to the all-time greats
00:34:37Mm-hmm. I didn't mean Pascal Siakam to catch a stray their Pascal disrespect great basketball player
00:34:44But I think that's I think that's where it gets lost and then Celtics fans are
00:34:47They're the really the only ones that get fired up when you when anybody says less than glowing things about Tatum
00:34:52They they contextualize it as though you're comparing him to to a Pascal
00:34:57So they're like dude, he's fucking way better than Pascal
00:34:59And I'm like, yeah, of course what I'm comparing him to is the all-time great. I agree
00:35:03It just feels like it stinks it stinks to see that he finally won one and it seems like his reputation
00:35:09While winning has gotten worse it might have got worse
00:35:11but it is like you said a
00:35:13Compliment to him that it's like yeah, dude, if you're gonna win one and you're gonna be one of the best play
00:35:16We're gonna put you in a category. Yeah. Yeah, that's what it is
00:35:20I mean, honestly, and I don't say that to see like I I genuinely that that's where I'm coming at it from is like I
00:35:27I've
00:35:28like obviously I've worked at Barstool now and there's a lot of
00:35:31Boston influence at this company both like people we work with and people that have that consume the content and so I felt like
00:35:37An onslaught of like dude, why the fuck do you hate Tatum so much?
00:35:41And I and I've never like wanted to backpedal from my stances on Tatum
00:35:47But like I that that is transparently where I'm coming from is like I don't I don't feel like I'm a Tatum hater
00:35:53I just feel like I I obviously don't think he's as good as Celtics fans think he is
00:35:56But I I am looking at it from a standpoint of I I do think he's super talented
00:36:02And for that reason I've taken him out of this pod comparing him to these players
00:36:05I'm dropping him into this one and in this pot over here. He's he's not
00:36:10He's not that great
00:36:12But I did move him over here. Do I get credit?
00:36:17Yeah, so I'm not just I don't I don't want to nitpick and I think he's supremely talented
00:36:21And I do think it'd be cool if he had an awesome game
00:36:23But uh, all right, I do think the corny stuff turns a lot of people off as well
00:36:27I think he asked for it when he's texting Kobe and
00:36:30You know and in the the the clips of him after they won the champion that was that was
00:36:36The stage shit FIBA versus NBA rules speaking of Kevin Durant being a content gold mine, so he doesn't play
00:36:43We get content out of it. He does play we get content at the Katie's back
00:36:47He's the best player ever on the international stage. This is awesome. Ah
00:36:52Grabs his phone and starts tweeting we get I saw today
00:36:56Which was brought up on mostly sport John Rich
00:36:58I think was the original guy who who talked about this and then we were laughing about it on mostly sports
00:37:03He says he thinks Simone Biles can dunk a basketball, which is awesome. How tall Simone Biles 5 1
00:37:105 5 I would honestly if I had to guess like 5 3 5 4 probably
00:37:16Well, what happened or 8 4 8 4 foot 8 shut up you're so true 4 foot 8 4 meters surely
00:37:25She is 4 foot 8 4 is that born in Columbus, Ohio? I think I did know that
00:37:324 foot 8 is crazy
00:37:35so for her to dunk obviously her hands are above her head, but that's
00:37:40holy cow for 4 foot 8 well she
00:37:45Titus when were you 4 foot 8? I don't know if I ever was I think I came out of the womb like 5 foot tall
00:37:51you
00:37:524 foot 8 is fine, but it's really small
00:37:55But when you're watching the Olympics that she's doing her floor routine
00:37:58She bounces up and then they pause it and she's there like she's 12 feet in the air what she is
00:38:03I don't mean to say she's I don't mean to say the measurements are off
00:38:06There are springs under the boards
00:38:11Talk about down playing the greatest Olymp the great springs under the boards
00:38:16Back
00:38:18We are we not is this not a is this not a show of facts fact check they are they are stating facts
00:38:24That's all
00:38:27Wow you're tossing
00:38:29Man, this is why I
00:38:32Wish Durant only played for Team USA. I wish he didn't even play in the NBA
00:38:35I wish she just only came around for he played in every USA event
00:38:39There is did you feel this way before he broke the internet and super teamed up with the Warriors like were you anti-drug?
00:38:45When he was on the on the Thunder there was probably a little bias with the Odin Durant stuff
00:38:49But that was I don't know. I worked my way. I don't care that much about I never cared that much and honestly like
00:38:55Whatever the NBA tried to pit those two against each other a little bit
00:38:59and
00:39:01Like the first time I ever talked to Greg about the rant and like 2008 or something
00:39:05I just see Greg and I'm like I'm like do we so do we hate Durant?
00:39:08Do we love it like if Durant does well is that bad for you or tell me how to feel about Kevin Durant?
00:39:13I will feel that way and he's like Kevin Durant's my favorite player in the NBA. Oh, wow. I was like, oh, okay
00:39:17Well, then cool. I like we like yeah, um
00:39:20So I I always kind of liked him. I do think the Warriors stuff was bad
00:39:26I think the Warriors thing was bad. It's kind of bullshit
00:39:27I think I think the Warriors thing was kind of a point in a return really for me
00:39:31I thought it was extremely likable. It didn't feel like the Thunder were like the young and hungry like yeah team to watch
00:39:37And then he's like, well, I can't beat him. So I'm gonna go it was just it was like a moment
00:39:41it's like something you just kind of can't unsee and you just have like an idea of what a guy is and
00:39:47You think he's like a guy who just because he was always he's and he still
00:39:51claims to be this and in a lot of ways he is but he's always like a champion for the sport of basketball and like
00:39:56and he's a guy who just wants to be known as a hooper and and I a
00:40:00Lot of these other guys want to be NBA play. I don't want to be an NBA player
00:40:04I just want to be a hooper man. I just wanna go out and hoop
00:40:05I don't care if I made 10 trillion dollars playing this game. I'm still gonna show up and hoop
00:40:10I'm gonna hoop till the wheels fall all those sorts of things and you're like buying into this ethos of what Kevin Durant is
00:40:14And to me him going to the Warriors was just undercuts that entire thing
00:40:18Just like the circumstances of all how all that happened. And so
00:40:22Yeah, I think I think when that happened, it was just hard to ever win me back
00:40:25But every time I see him in a USA Jersey, I'm one back and he's fucking awesome, and he's awesome
00:40:32Anyway, someone Biles I I think if you gave her
00:40:36He's awesome cuz he's a he gives us content that's what I'm saying. So he tweets about Simone Biles
00:40:41And the FIBA rules and then he tweeted about that. That was what I love the thing
00:40:44I was gonna bring it he was he was mixing it up with a guy about
00:40:48FIBA versus NBA rules and you've mentioned a couple times you love I would say on this one
00:40:52I'm gonna push back. Well, both of them. I'm gonna push back against Kevin Durant, although
00:40:56let's go back to Simone Biles a second because
00:41:00Simone Biles if you give her you so that this hypothetical is she is going to run full-speed
00:41:06I'm assuming I'm assuming she's got to do some flippy-dippy shit to get the moment. That's what I was gonna say
00:41:11What is we're not we're not so he's not saying she can go run up and dog, right?
00:41:15Cuz she can't let me say this. She can't she can't she can I know they can't or could she but what if she could?
00:41:22Or could she but what if she could
00:41:27Spud web shortest to dunk in the NBA 5 6 5 6 like a foot taller than her if
00:41:32if if she did a full sprint to like half-court and then did a couple flippy-dippies and
00:41:38Then someone threw her a ball. Could she get high enough to catch it and dunk it?
00:41:43My official answer. I don't know
00:41:46My after hearing I don't know. I don't I have no idea
00:41:49I can't even conceptualize what that would look like Tate. My answer was crazy like no way
00:41:54Before you just said that if she gets a running head start flippy-dippy to flip it
00:41:59Do you get as much flippy-dippy shit as what but you only have this the size of the core?
00:42:02That's what I worry about. Can you get can you get build up enough?
00:42:06Momentum to do a couple flippy-dippy shits
00:42:10To then dunk it that I don't know. So I don't know if she could dunk a basketball like in a game
00:42:15Let me say this, you know, what sport she'd be good at
00:42:19Slamball slam ball. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah
00:42:23First overall pick

00:43:22I promise you that get yours today at Walmart or a local grocery store near you body armor zero sugar
00:43:28But Duran also, yeah mix it up about the FIBA NBA rules. I I'm gonna disagree with him on this one, too
00:43:33I I
00:43:35Which should be no surprise to anybody who follows this show my my feelings on college versus NBA
00:43:40Obviously, I skew more towards college. I think FIBA is I do think FIBA like lands right in the middle of the two in terms of
00:43:46what it feels like you're watching like if you
00:43:49Like call it you watch college basketball and then flip on an NBA game
00:43:53It does feel like a completely different as Fran for Schiller. I've loved the analogy he's used for years
00:43:57It's it's like Portuguese and Spanish where to someone who doesn't really speak either language
00:44:03You're like that's the same thing, isn't it? But like those of you who are there people who know no
00:44:07Yeah, if you know both languages intimately you're like these are very different these are so fucking different, um, I
00:44:14Think FIBA lands right in the middle where there are times where I'm like, yeah, dude
00:44:17I this feels just like college basketball there other times
00:44:19We're like this is this feels just like NBA basketball and that's why I think it's like the perfect marriage of the two
00:44:25The things I like about FIBA one zone defense
00:44:28I do think having a rule that that says you can't have guys on defense stand wherever they want to stand
00:44:34Is me is stupid and what is so is I don't I've never understood the I I'm not I don't like the reasoning though
00:44:40Is it just because if we stuck a 7-5 guy in the middle of the paint and did this it'd be I'd know the yeah
00:44:46The reasoning is the NBA wants it to be running good
00:44:49They want to spread it out and create lanes for driving and kicking and getting more
00:44:53Like I hate skill and speed involved which was it was a good idea like the 90s maybe but like now
00:44:59I think it's it's swung too far
00:45:01And also, I just think the the premise of what I just said like having a rule where you're like
00:45:05You can't just you just can't stand here
00:45:08That I think the defense should be able to do whatever they want and I say that as a guy
00:45:12I don't love I don't love zone defense if I was a coach
00:45:14I wouldn't really throw a lot of zone out there
00:45:16But I think you should be able to I don't care if it's run and gun or if it's slow it down
00:45:20What I'm saying is let the defense do what they want
00:45:23And if you don't want them to do it change how you play so they can't do it
00:45:27Yeah, you know what? I mean? Yeah, like if you guys want to play zone defense
00:45:30I would like to think as a coach if you're gonna go play a zone defense
00:45:34You are telling my team you cannot guard us right man, right and now we need to pick that apart
00:45:39Yeah, and so I guess it's less about like I don't I don't really zone at that level shouldn't really be played much
00:45:44Anyway, like he's what you just said
00:45:46Like if you're playing zone, you're basically waving the white flag and the ways these guys can pass
00:45:50So like it's not really going to matter that much but for me, it's more the there's just the help side
00:45:56defensive three seconds thing
00:45:58Which is ultimately outlaw zone defense, but I
00:46:03They can technically I should for clarification the NBA. You can technically play zone. I'm talking about
00:46:10Obviously defensive three seconds. I should I should have clarified that you can play zone defense in the NBA. You cannot
00:46:15hang out in the lane, that's really my bigger issue is
00:46:19the III
00:46:20Like the idea of a help side defender
00:46:23Not necessarily. It's not even necessarily like the idea of parking like a huge dude underneath the basket
00:46:27But if if someone's killing you in isolation, you should be able to bring a ton of help over
00:46:35to like stop that guy because then there's a counter to that which is then throw it swing it over to the open guy like
00:46:41They're if they're over helping swing it over. I just I've never really loved defensive three seconds
00:46:45I understand why the little league put it in
00:46:48but I think that would go a long way and I
00:46:51If you ask me if I could push a button and make it in kind of handcuffing be offenses a little bit
00:46:56I absolutely would push the button
00:46:58I think I think NBA offenses are too overpowered and I think defenses are helpless and guys just throw their hands up
00:47:02so I I like seeing the FIBA game a little bit because you're getting an NBA feel in a lot of ways, but
00:47:10You almost have to and this was what the Rantz argument was
00:47:13It was like NBA is more artistic and and it's just like feel and just go and it's instinct and it's like I got this
00:47:19This gap I'm gonna drive into it and then I'm gonna you know
00:47:23Just exploit mismatches and not and and and yeah, it's it's more of a flowy game. Whereas FIBA is more of a thinking game
00:47:31Maybe it's because I'm very unathletic and and and I'm a and I'm a white guy from Indiana
00:47:36But like to me, I enjoy the thinking game more. I when I get really excited about basketball
00:47:41It's like watching the Duncan Spurs. It's watching the Warriors. It's watching the ball moving around this year Celtics
00:47:47It's watching dudes who are think you see them in real time thinking the game
00:47:53And I want to see that on full display and that's what that's what I get
00:47:57The most excited is when I see thinking happen in real time. How do you how do you feel about?
00:48:01So the three you literally said that you feel that this is kind of like halfway between the NBA and NCAA
00:48:07Yeah, where we find FIBA it is literally the three-point line is halfway. It's halfway. Yeah
00:48:12Yeah, what do you what does that make you feel any time?
00:48:14I think that condenses the defense too because I do think you have guys like
00:48:18Steph and and Damon and at this point, it's like everybody in the league. They have unlimited range
00:48:23But they're ultimately ultimately most guys are gonna spot up wherever you draw the from the line
00:48:28Yeah, they're all they're all gonna run their shit wherever the three-point line is and I think pulling it in
00:48:32I don't know and I'm not a data. I don't need to explain to my audience, you know
00:48:36I'm a dumbass but there's probably data that says otherwise my instinct is like if you pulled it in a little bit
00:48:43It would
00:48:44Maybe not drop score. It would help defenses. It would help it would make it easier to guard because
00:48:50Yeah, your instinct on offense is to spot up on whatever three-point line you have in front of you
00:48:54Which is just then means that the the help defender is positioned
00:48:59Like his closeout on a skip pass is shorter shorter
00:49:03Correct, which then helps like I think I do think it my instinct would be that that would help
00:49:07Give defenses a little more power and and to be clear when I when I say I want the offenses to be a little
00:49:13More handcuffed in the NBA. That does not mean I want less scoring. It's that I want the I want the scoring to feel
00:49:19Better or like I wanted to work. Yeah earned a little bit and that's what that's what I get excited about in FIBA is like
00:49:24There's not a ton of isolation and there there there are moments where
00:49:28You do get mismatches and these guys are in be like if you're an NBA player
00:49:31It's just burned into your brain that I have a smaller guy on me
00:49:34I have a slower guy out like I got to exploit this mismatch
00:49:37But it is a different style of basketball where USA is not just coming up the floor setting one ball screen finding
00:49:43Finding the mismatch they like and exploit it. They're not just doing that over and over and over again
00:49:46They are working the ball a little bit more and driving and kicking more and stuff
00:49:49And to me I find that way more interesting
00:49:52And yeah, that's what we talked about in the finals
00:49:55like I mean you had an isolation team versus a team that moves the ball and
00:49:58It was moving the ball to me is always going to be the right way isolation will always be the wrong way and I I
00:50:03Favor rules that encourage the movement of the ball and and the necessity of the moving of the ball
00:50:08it's not like yeah, and I think if you give defenses the power to overhelp and to like throw two guys at a you know,
00:50:15just you know what I'm saying like
00:50:18By saying no defensive three seconds. You're eliminating the defense's ability to like do what they want to do frankly, right?
00:50:25And now now they're on the offense's terms and I I would love a world where the defense has a little bit of power
00:50:30They can flex their muscle and then when the offense scores you're like damn now
00:50:34Yeah, that was awesome how they were thinking the game and found the open shots and all this sort of thing
00:50:39Anyway, another difference. I don't know if there's I don't know if it makes you earn it a more either way
00:50:44Are you a fan of the once the ball strikes the rim? You can just swap the shit out of it
00:50:47Yeah, it always looks weird. But I I think I can't get enough of it. I think I love it
00:50:52Yeah, like whenever it happens, I do like lean like the first game. I watch I'll just like lean up and point
00:50:57And then I remember and I'm like, oh, yeah, that's kind of a good rule I guess
00:51:01It's fun. And it's not as I still don't think it's real. I don't understand how ball touches the rim. Oh, yeah
00:51:07It's not as cheesed as is that the right word Cody? Am I using that right?
00:51:10It's not as cheesed as like you would know cuz you cheese the fuck out of that
00:51:14Our college football dynasty where you run the same play over and over
00:51:19It's it's not as cheesed as everyone thought it would be like when when we as a basketball
00:51:25Nation were introduced to this idea. We're like, well what we can't put that in the NBA the bitch
00:51:30You just you why not just get like an eight-foot guy that stands under the rim and just swats everything out of the way
00:51:35And then you watch the games and like that does it just yeah
00:51:38I think there are a lot of games were like they just never do it
00:51:41But when it does happen, it's cool. Yeah. I don't know. It makes sense to me, too
00:51:44It's like you had your chance to make like your your chance to make it was your chance
00:51:48yeah, you had don't hit don't get a little let it bounce up there and
00:51:51And
00:51:53Spill in like swish it if you want it to go in. I love it. So, um
00:51:59Other my last thought on watching these USA games. I just wrote down Dwyane Wade. Oh
00:52:06I'll tell you what his pronouns. What are can I take a guess?
00:52:12That I was I was watching that I was watching the game air pods in on the beach doing work Titus doing well, yeah
00:52:19Yeah, but I had a rewind he said three times. Yeah, he said three hundred times. Yeah
00:52:25Um, I don't know if Dwyane Wade is good at the job
00:52:28I love it, but I think I love him still like I think he's I think he's I don't know if he like
00:52:35He needs more catchphrases. He doesn't always know what to say. It's a hard job. I want to make that clear
00:52:40I did it one time for a st. John st. Francis game and
00:52:44What is your prep look like for that? Like did you have a sheet of like?
00:52:47Sneak this one in there because he has a sheet. He just well to be longer. Yeah
00:52:51Yeah, we if you really want to know we we prepared the second half. We were expecting like a 30-point blowout
00:52:58So we prepared a bunch of material for the second half and then we looked up at the under four timeout
00:53:02It was like a one-point game. You had to call the call the game and we had to lock in and also on the
00:53:08Uber ride from Manhattan to Jamaica, Queens, so I had to book my own travel
00:53:14I was calling a st. John's basketball game. Where would you assume that game was being played?
00:53:19Be a dumbass for a second. Where would you assume that game is being Madison Square Madison Square Garden? Yeah
00:53:23Yeah, that's what I thought. I did no actual looking into this
00:53:27Which I should have they do have schedules, right? They do have schedules
00:53:30I knew I was calling a st. John's game
00:53:32So I booked a hotel in Manhattan not too far from like a couple blocks from Madison Square Garden
00:53:38Then I find out that they're not they're playing a car in a sec arena on campus and
00:53:43Jamaica, Queens, so I take an uber
00:53:45It ends up being like an hour 15 minutes. I get carsick very easily. That's one of the things I hate about myself
00:53:50one of many and
00:53:53We get to the we get to the gym
00:53:55first of all
00:53:56we get there like 30 minutes before it's hit like like
00:53:59We did the deal where you get the uber and it says you'll you'll be there like an hour
00:54:02Yeah, and then just the ETA just keeps going and going and I'm losing my mind. I'm carsick. I get out of the car
00:54:09I'm throwing up like crazy. I go to the bathroom and I'm like hugging a toilet in a suit and tie
00:54:14Just throwing up. I splash water on my face. I brush my teeth
00:54:17I had a toothbrush with me for some reason just in the bag I had with me and I brushed my teeth. I
00:54:23Sat down in that chair Tate the ball tipped off no less than two minutes after I sat down Wow
00:54:28And this was your first ever the first time ever and only the only
00:54:32Shit was the only time Wow my boss saw that they're like what?
00:54:36You're saying it's hard though. But as the game went on I thought I when I sat down
00:54:41I was like, this is just gonna be a podcast
00:54:43We're just gonna podcast during the game and we kind of did other Tate
00:54:47He he was like he's a little more classically trained
00:54:50So he did he did a pretty decent job of like play-by-play and stuff
00:54:53And he kind of had a good idea of like the the cadence of stuff
00:54:56I I wasn't good at like when you're doing color
00:54:59You just you got a hit like though you got to hit it and just get out just didn't get out
00:55:03Just be like that's that's good shit from Bama. You can't even say shit, I guess so that would be bad right there
00:55:07That's bad right there. Like it's good good
00:55:10Good a good by a lot about good stuff from Bama to bio right there
00:55:14Just picking up the the loose ball and dunking it. That's it's it's the hustle if you notice him hustling
00:55:19Yeah, that's just who this guy is and then you just get it and then you have to like almost stop and let the guy
00:55:23other guy
00:55:25Call the right. So so is it just you two?
00:55:28Yeah, it was just us two. So Tate was like calling the game and then you were like giving in you're like, yeah
00:55:32You're quick. I just quick little and in most of them were
00:55:37Dumb as fuck. It was like while his shoes are bright or something
00:55:40I don't know because I I studied the teams as best I could but also is this was like game like
00:55:45Four or five you just need to go a bunch of basketball saying yeah, they call him the janitor
00:55:50Yeah, he's always cleaning up the glass, right?
00:55:53Pepper doesn't um
00:55:55but yeah, I've realized my when I walked away from that experience I was like I suck at the cadence of being a
00:56:01color guy because there's like something there's there's an art to it and
00:56:06All of that is to say that I think Dwayne Wade is also not good at it
00:56:10But there's one little difference between myself and Dwayne Wade Dwayne Wade is Dwayne Wade, right and Dwayne Wade rules
00:56:17Mm-hmm. I think Dwayne Wade's awesome. I think he's very
00:56:20Charismatic, I think he's he's always in a good mood. Seemingly. I think he's like he speaks glowingly of like younger players
00:56:27I think he's a great ambassador for basketball. And so I'm buying into the Dwayne Wade color commentary experience
00:56:34But I gotta say like if I was breaking it down if I was doing a blind resume
00:56:38Yeah, if you had to evaluate him, yeah, I'd be like, I don't
00:56:41Well my question, but I love Noah Eagle, by the way. He's so good. It's like 25 years old or something. He's killing it
00:56:48I would say if you were to like
00:56:50Grade Dwayne Wade like you're his teacher and he was doing his final. He's probably not doing a very good job
00:56:55But I love that he's played in it
00:56:57I love that he knows all the guys right like he'll tell you the insights about LeBron now LeBron really is like that's where he
00:57:04Wins you over is yeah, that's not like it. That's what that's how if you do stuff like that
00:57:08I will forgive the fact that you technicalities
00:57:11Yeah
00:57:11or that you've said he him at ten thousand times or like stuff like that like if you continue to
00:57:16Offer like anecdotes about LeBron or like talk about your experience playing. Yeah, that sort of stuff is super valuable and fun
00:57:22Where do you think where do you think calling the Olympics like group stage?
00:57:26Like falls on like it's not the major leagues. Is it is it single a is it like it's would he be able to go?
00:57:32Do college games right now the TV Wade? Yeah. Well, where's the final four right now?
00:57:38So he could he could just do all the the I mean he's doing my way
00:57:43You can do whatever the fuck you want right based on his talent of calling games. Yeah
00:57:47I'm just watching him on Peacock being like is there a reason why he's on
00:57:51Based on his talent. I do think we'd hire him here. I do. I think he could get a podcast of Barstool
00:57:56Okay, I think he could maybe throw a chair. I think I think we would we would find use
00:58:02I
00:58:03Don't know. That's a Jake Marsh question, dude. I don't know the hierarchy
00:58:06Yeah, I think for I think for Jake it was final four
00:58:09I think that's the P is the peak of it, but I I don't know dude
00:58:12I would say I mean, this is an actual Olympics is pretty sick
00:58:15That's once every four years and it's a it's a natural fit for him because he knows the guys he's played in everything
00:58:20Yeah, I don't think they would want him calling just calling a basketball game. Just any basketball. Yeah. Yeah
00:58:27Marist at Northeastern. Hey guys, it's Dwayne Wade Wade's on the call for you. You know what they call
00:58:32You know what his pronouns are. I would love to see John Fanta and Dwayne Wade call a game together
00:58:37Do you watch the it's okay if you did it, that's fine
00:58:40No, I don't think most people did you watch the Kentucky Louisville TBT name? I'm following Carmen's crew. I'm not that's right, dude
00:58:48Buckeye boys are rolling. So we're playing the Kentucky team now. Oh
00:58:53Spoiler by the way, Kentucky won the Kentucky Louisville game. I know you're sorry. I know you said you didn't watch it and
00:58:59I'm sorry to spoil that because when Kentucky Louisville play
00:59:02It's usually a situation where you have no idea who's gonna win either team could win throw the records out there
00:59:07They put Louisville fans would love for you to throw the record book out because they never win that game. Yeah
00:59:13They would love for you to that
00:59:15I was what the whole reason I brought it up is because I mentioned John Fanta and he was I
00:59:19Fucking love John Fanta. We got a higher John Fanta here
00:59:22He's calling he's calling a TBT game Tate, which I don't want to put down a TBT
00:59:26It's a ton of fun, but like it is alternative basketball in the summer
00:59:29And it's like I like I think for a casual viewer. It's like not that serious, you know for the player sure
00:59:34There's a million dollars online for a casual viewer. You're like, I love basketball. There's not a lot of basketball on
00:59:39I want to watch I used to go to the TBT in person. Oh, yeah
00:59:42I love watching the Mac team and the Ohio State team and all that
00:59:45John Fanta was calling this like it was the final four
00:59:48He was in and it's because John Fanta has one speed and it's just enthusiasm
00:59:52And he was just like shot out of a cannon and he called the Kentucky. He called the Kentucky stay on for the fight
00:59:58Yeah a little bit. I forget how he described it. He was like, I think he said you don't want to see this
01:00:04Yeah, this is something you don't want to see as the cameras are like panning and zooming in
01:00:08But yeah, Fanta's like you do not oh and that's a scene. We do not want to see after a great hard-fought game
01:00:16But yeah the the Kentucky I'm I'm a one thing you should know about me
01:00:20I am probably the preeminent hater of the Kentucky Louisville rivalry
01:00:25But you call it a rivalry still it is a rivalry
01:00:28But I be in a being a college basketball talking head
01:00:33I often get put in situations where I have to talk about my favorite rivalries in the sport and
01:00:38Inevitably, I will not talk about Kentucky Louisville and then I'll have people from Kentucky be like dude
01:00:43That's the that's literally this list is invalid. The Kentucky Louisville is literally the best rival. It's better than Carolina Duke
01:00:49Do we only play once a year?
01:00:51It's it's it's to public schools. So it's like you don't have the it's like actually people of these
01:00:57You know
01:00:59Communities versus like Dukes not actually North Carolina's people are from all over and there's like these are these are our neighbors that were
01:01:05Fighting with all that sort of shit
01:01:07And all that's fine and well the problem with Kentucky Louisville is that Kentucky wins every time they play every single time
01:01:14They play now. I will say Louisville fans stick with me
01:01:18I'm hearing some good things from this team now that Louisville is currently as far as I know playing in the Bahamas
01:01:24Pat Kelsey at the helm
01:01:27new coach and
01:01:29I've heard it's going. Well, I've tried to watch it. But uh, I don't know. I can't I can't quite so Louisville's playing
01:01:34Well, I heard Louisville might be back. He's got a new coach
01:01:37I think it's gonna be good. They're showing the rival. I think it's trying to give some optimist
01:01:42Oh, you're trying to have can you Louisville? This will be a great test though. This will be a great test because I think I
01:01:48Think Kentucky is there's a lot of unknown obviously with Kentucky
01:01:52there's a lot of unknown with Louisville and I I think that uh,
01:01:56If if I think there's a world where Pat Kelsey can can pull it together and then
01:02:01But but seriously look up look up the Kentucky Louisville rivalry the the all-time. Yeah, I see a lot of W's
01:02:07It's just it's like almost always Kentucky and then they were playing in TBT and I turned the game on I was like well
01:02:13I'll be damned
01:02:14I'll be damned the alumni of Kentucky is my witness. It was better. It's Kentucky basketball beating Louisville basketball. That's crazy
01:02:21Um, no the Buckeyes we play Kentucky now on the TV when is that do you know
01:02:27He might be Saturday
01:02:29Saturday we also have a team USA game Saturday team, you know
01:02:31Which one if they're both on at the same time, which one we lock in? I really like Ohio State man
01:02:36But now team USA. Yeah stage, even though we're already in the next round. Hey, but real quick between those two teams
01:02:42We've already played South Sudan and Serbia. I saw the line. What would you set that line at?
01:02:47Oh, yeah, cuz they got a play the winner the winner winners in losers out. Mm-hmm, and I I
01:02:54It it made my eyes open even farther
01:02:58Okay. Well the fact that you're saying this yeah, I shouldn't have done that. Yeah
01:03:02I'm gonna pretend like I didn't hear you say, okay, I would set the line at
01:03:06Serbia minus
01:03:10Five and a half
01:03:13What about for the second quarter
01:03:15Minus
01:03:1816 oh my god. No, I'm South Sudan, dude
01:03:21They're like watch both the South Sudan plays hard and they're long and they're athletic and they care so much
01:03:26They're not they're not 20 points worse than sir. Yeah, I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so
01:03:32Am I stupid? I don't know
01:03:35They I don't know. The problem is they they don't have I
01:03:39Got we got to stop with the NBA. I don't know how else to do it
01:03:43I think you look at South Sudan. You're like, they don't have NBA players. Mm-hmm, but that doesn't mean they don't have players
01:03:48Yeah, they're not like a bunch of like like refugees that like yeah
01:03:55Bobsled team dude, like they're not like showing up like what is this?
01:04:00We were like that
01:04:01It's not like fucking the Olympic Committee like went to South Sudan
01:04:05with a boss and was like anybody that wants to play in the Olympics hop on and then they
01:04:08Fucking drove to Paris and dumped them out, but it kind of acts like they are
01:04:12Yeah
01:04:14They got they got guys that could shoot and super athletic and they play hard as fuck and there's a ton of pride there
01:04:20They're that I think that matters and now Serbia has a ton of pride as well
01:04:22They also have Nikola Jokic. So maybe in the end maybe in the end
01:04:26there'll be a lot of things a lot a
01:04:28Lot of palms up from from South Sudan shrugging their shoulders. Like I don't know what to do guarding this guy
01:04:33I just don't know what to do. He's too good. But I don't know. I fall in love with South Sudan
01:04:38I'm falling in love with the whole story and and how good they are and they you know, the
01:04:43As Frank the tank called them. They're an expansion country
01:04:48We're losing to an expansion country, um, I
01:04:52Think that might be it. Oh three on three you watching three on three at all. Ah
01:04:57Men's and women's combined saw USA. Oh and six we suck
01:05:02We saw three on three. I think it's a
01:05:05You're played three on three and not not that not like what that is. Okay, I played like in the back
01:05:14I've played like basketball where there's only three on I've not played that version. Um
01:05:19It's crazy one. It's it's a it is a completely different sport and I'm not saying I
01:05:25Mean that literally not like how we talked about college versus NBA bat like it is it is just crazy. It's just chaos
01:05:32It's just it's like basketball for people the ADD I think
01:05:35but to
01:05:37one of the issues I think we have is
01:05:40Jimmer's awesome. Jimmer is apparently supposed to be the best player in three on three in the world
01:05:45That's we weren't supposed to be bad
01:05:47We're supposed to be we're supposed to be good
01:05:48But like art we should we should be putting out more talented guys and not I don't mean to shit on these guys
01:05:53But also in a more real sense. That's exactly what I want to do
01:05:56I want to shit on the town of these guys because we
01:05:59My understanding is the way it works is you have to play in enough events?
01:06:03To
01:06:04Play personally not as a team you you personally or your whatever like it's not like Team USA
01:06:11Qualifies you you as an individual have to be in these events these these the fucking
01:06:18Pro-am type right whatever like you have to you have to it's like being a pilot
01:06:21I guess you have to register enough hours to get behind the cockpit like they I
01:06:25Don't know my analogies are falling apart. You're I need to be better with the knowledge
01:06:29Analogy school, dude
01:06:30analogy suck
01:06:32But the point is they they you in order the only way to play there is to like go earn it
01:06:38Grassroots style whereas most people when they throw on the three-on-three in the Olympics
01:06:44They assume that we took our 12 best threw them on the men's national team
01:06:48And then why don't we just take the next three best and throw them on I've seen a lot of like where's Jalen Brunson?
01:06:53Where's Jalen Brunson Jalen Brunson out there?
01:06:55And if we did that of course we would of course we would win, but but we're not I think that's the issue
01:07:01so we're but even never mind Jalen Brunson just down the line like the guys who are
01:07:06The best players in college that could theoretically be playing on on the three-on-three team. They don't have the time right and
01:07:12Wouldn't allow them. Yeah, like Cooper flags not allowed to go do that Jalen Brunson's not allowed to go do that
01:07:17We will we don't let him go not qualified. That's the issue
01:07:21Yeah, and if it was a situation where we could just send Cooper flag to go to Paris for a couple weeks and play three
01:07:27On three I think every like Duke would be like yeah, go ahead
01:07:29Go wouldn't and I would watch the shit, but if for the last three years Cooper flag had to step away from every
01:07:35Basketball thing he was in to go to Wichita to play
01:07:39I got a question Titus like at a car dealership parking lot three on three against or some guys some Gus Macker
01:07:45Yeah, Gus Macker. I don't think that would have been a good idea. Are we not the United States? No we are dude
01:07:50That's the thing we are we
01:07:52Want to send Cooper flag to the three on three? We're just gonna tell the rest of the world
01:07:57These are the new rules sounds like JFK given a moon speech
01:08:00I'm just saying I'm tired like let the Pete know Jalen Brunson should not have to go qualify
01:08:05Let him go play. You almost said let my people go you almost said it say that you almost said it
01:08:09You're loading that up Gordon Hayward's retiring shout-out Gordon Hayward
01:08:14Proud of Brownsburg. Yeah Brownsburg Bulldog. Go Dawgs beat Avon
01:08:20Gordon Hayward is a good basketball player. He was at times a great basketball player in college. He was a great player
01:08:25I think he had an awesome career, and I think the injury he sustained never he never really fully recovered from it, but uh I
01:08:32Think in my mind, and I am biased. I played I played with Gordon for two years in high school
01:08:38He was he was five foot nine. I think when we played together, and then the second I graduated we were okay
01:08:46We were okay it is, Indiana
01:08:48It's high-level basketball in Indiana so like just having I mean as crazy as it sounds having one guy that played in the NBA
01:08:53Mm-hmm
01:08:54Kind of wasn't enough back then
01:08:56You had Eric Gordon in the in the area you had Greg Oden in the area you had Mike Conley in the area Josh
01:09:01McRoberts in the area George Hill Courtney Lee
01:09:04There are some fucking ballplayers
01:09:06We were okay. We won some games. We were a competitive
01:09:11Team but we weren't special by any stretch the imagination lost the sectional championship to Jeff Teague and the Pike boys
01:09:18Anyway, I graduate Tate. I move on to college
01:09:22Get a phone call from my father, and he's like you paying attention
01:09:25What's going on with Gordon, and I said no I haven't dad
01:09:28I've been I've been kind of consuming my own shit to be completely honest like yes, so Gordon's like six seven now
01:09:34And he's just dunking on everybody and I was like that can't be right that just can't be right
01:09:39He was always super skilled growing up like he was he could shoot and handle it and was smart as hell
01:09:44But my dad told me was six seven
01:09:46I was like it like literally as soon as I leave he's like some they go on to win state championship
01:09:51Wow, I didn't know that killer. He was a killer. He was an absolute killer
01:09:54but that's the reason why he went to Butler is he was a
01:09:58Gordon was a massive if my memory serves Gordon was a massive Purdue fan
01:10:02I think his parents both went to Purdue they had like produce season tickets, okay?
01:10:06But Brad Stevens was on him early Brad Stevens offered like
01:10:11This is why I need to go to analogy school who's Captain America. What's this fight? You know when Captain America?
01:10:15Oh, yeah, it is LeBron
01:10:17you know Captain America was like a skinny little bitch, and then he like gets the it's a thing and then becomes like
01:10:23Yeah, Brad Stevens wasn't was recruiting
01:10:27the the pre
01:10:29Yeah, Gordon Hayward, so Gordon was like Brad Stevens Steve Rogers Steve Rogers
01:10:34Yeah, before he gets the soldier serum Gore. Yeah, Brad was recruiting skinny arm Steve Rogers
01:10:40You know and he's like I he's like I don't need to be Captain America
01:10:42I love I love you for who you are and Gordon was like that's that's respect, dude
01:10:46I love you, too
01:10:47And he's like I guess I'm gonna go to Butler and then by the time he blew up like all these other schools came calling
01:10:51He was like I'm gonna stay loyal to my guy Wow that's why that's why he ended up at Butler cuz like even when he got
01:10:55To Butler he was he was a killer as a freshman
01:10:58Anyway, that's a long-winded way of saying
01:11:01It's been fun to watch it Gordon's career
01:11:03He's a great dude, and I think he's a hell of a player you know even at the NBA level
01:11:07And I don't know if history will look back on him at the NBA level as fairly as it should I don't know why I'm
01:11:14Prematurely insecure about that, but I feel like you feel a certain way
01:11:18I feel like people won't remember Gordon as good as he actually was
01:11:22Because he never like the Gordon never really had like huge playoff moments
01:11:27Maybe that's why
01:11:30But he was on some decent teams you could score the basketball
01:11:33He could be could defend and there's something to be said I mean like to be a to be a pasty white boy
01:11:38from from Indiana and
01:11:41You know he's an all-star at a time when we're looking at Cooper flag. We're like huh white guy really
01:11:48Yeah, I'd have could have given us could have given us the best sports moment of all time
01:11:52He could have given us the best sports moment
01:11:54Of all time
01:11:55But dude dudes would go at his neck when he got into the league cuz he looked like a he looked like a schoolboy
01:12:00dudes would just like
01:12:01Size him up and be like I'm gonna fucking crush this guy he had to take that over and over and
01:12:06He held his own. He was he was a hell of a player, and I think I think the timing was right though
01:12:10I hope he's around. I hope he's around bothered more now
01:12:12I hope this helps that and the boys that bother looked like that and the boys are doing some recruit
01:12:16Yeah, there too. Maybe it. Maybe it's not a coincidence
01:12:19You get going on the phone a little bit get something rolling a bother get a shooter on staff
01:12:24Get that wallet open a little bit, too
01:12:27some
01:12:29Get the bank account routing numbers
01:12:32All right, I think that's it we got a game against Puerto Rico
01:12:36And then I think the real real bullet real live bullets
01:12:38I mean they are these games did count
01:12:40But I I guess we could we could lose by a hundred of Puerto Rico and be fine right now
01:12:45It all comes down to what do they draw out of a hat how you set up the bracket you know I'm talking about oh
01:12:51Yeah, yeah, so we want to win. Well. We'd win either way because we're to beat the team again
01:12:55Yeah, I think I'm already group watching on the other side. Oh really. I'm group
01:12:59I'm not watching as much as I thought I would I was excited about watching all the basketball
01:13:03But as it turns out it's they play the games when I'm doing all the show like yeah
01:13:08Actually, it's like mostly when we record mostly sports in the act seem to be when the games are on and then I try to go
01:13:13back and watch them, but
01:13:15But then I ended up watching like women's rugby or something
01:13:18Saturday should I try to fire up the DVR?
01:13:20I'm like I'm gonna you know what I'm gonna do more watch Greece and Spain or whoever's playing and then uh
01:13:25Then I hear about some rugby girl Lola Mar, and I'm like I gotta get
01:13:30Watch us fuck some shit up on the rugby field um alright. Thank you everybody watching everybody listening uh
01:13:36Love you guys. It is August. We're get wrenching ever closer to
01:13:40Some some college basketball some
01:13:42I'm getting fired up. I've been I've been paying attention. I haven't jokes aside
01:13:46I have been paying attention to Leonardi's bracket ology type stuff
01:13:48I he only put the one out, but I have been I'm starting to I'm starting to lock in a little bit
01:13:53I had a guy I went I went to California for a wedding last weekend
01:13:58And I'm in the airport
01:14:00And I had a layover in Dallas and I'm walking through the Dallas Airport a guy walks up to me like what do you think?
01:14:04About Baylor this year Titus, and I was like yes, we're back. We're getting close feel it getting close
01:14:10So anyway, that's on the horizon in the meantime
01:14:11We're gonna keep talking about team USA because they are a ton of fun, and I don't care if they won by 50 every game
01:14:16I'm gonna enjoy watching every second so thank you to Tate as always thank you everybody watching listen. We'll see you next week
