Is Dave Roberts' Future Secure in LA with the Dodgers?

00:00You brought up Dave Roberts. I got to ask you about it, man. I know he recently said
00:08that he would like to sign an extension sooner rather than later. But do you think that's
00:12like a foregone conclusion that he's going to sign an extension sooner rather than later?
00:16I mean, if I've been saying it on this show, and Dave's a friend of Scott's, Dave's been
00:21on the show numerous times like he lives in Cardiff up the street. But I genuinely think
00:26if he has another disaster in the postseason, how can you bring him back? Like at a certain
00:31point, at a certain point, you got to make a change, right?
00:35It's funny because and I'd love to get honestly your guys perspective on this because the
00:39thing about Dave Roberts is if you look at what the Dodgers have done in the regular
00:42season over the course of 162 games for his entire tenure, it's insane. Like I think there
00:47was a stat last night, last night was the first losing month the Dodgers have had since
00:51March and April of 2018. Like just think about that. That's six and a half years ago was
00:56they didn't go at least 500 in a month. So I think there's something to that and you
01:00know, not to pile on but I used to I used to point to like Jason Tinkler and the Padres
01:04and say, look, here's a team with all this talent that didn't win crap. And the thing
01:08about Dave Roberts that I've always pointed to is they've always performed. They've always
01:12won the division. They've always won 100 games like they've always and then you get into
01:16the playoffs, which I personally believe are a total crapshoot. And so I personally find
01:20it hard to blame Dave Roberts for a whole lot on the whole. I think like on the whole
01:26no manager is perfect and he's about as good as you could possibly get at the same time.
01:30It's been a long time if they don't win. I'm not I'm not going to be surprised if they
01:36made a change and especially if he's at the center of it. Here's a here's why I find that
01:41kind of two minutes from Dave Roberts to be utterly laughable about dismissing him. We
01:49just saw this here in San Diego. You have to be able to manage high-priced guys. Yeah,
01:55you have to be able to manage in a city like Los Angeles. You have to be able to manage
02:00under the pressure cooker. That is being the Dodgers manager when the team is spending
02:06all this money. You have to be able to manage all these players. Okay, we just shipped out
02:12a manager who couldn't manage two of them. The Dodgers have six or seven of them. So
02:17who do you think you're going to go get that can keep this thing at ease like Dave Roberts
02:23has that's the thing that I want people to know you're not going to break. We've gone
02:28through a lot of managers here. You can hop on that cycle too. If you just kick Dave Roberts
02:33out because he's not winning the World Series every year. Yeah, totally agree and and not
02:37to mention they want a guy who's going to you know, sort of carry out the plans of the
02:41front office and be analytically driven and do all that kind of thing. So find finding
02:45that balance. I think it's people just assume the grass is greener. I think they're going
02:48to find out it's not.
