Microsoft confirmed that a cyberattack triggered an outage on Tuesday that lasted nearly 10 hours and impacted Microsoft Azure services. The attack activated Microsoft's defenses against such attacks but there was an error that amplified the impact rather than mitigating it. The initial trigger was an "unexpected usage spike" that overloaded Azure Front Door and Content Delivery Network components, causing errors, timeouts, and latency.
