00:00Over 100 cats were mass-neutered at a Potong Royong program organized by the Society for
00:09the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals SPCA Selangor in Ampang Jaya on Wednesday.
00:16The event was graced by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who
00:20is the royal patron of SPCA's Stray Free Selangor campaign, as well as Ampang Jaya
00:26Municipal Council President, Dr. Ani Ahmad.
00:30Our activity together with SPCA is an annual activity.
00:35The first time we held it was in 2023, but this is the second year.
00:41So in this second year, we have received more support, where we have opened up more information
00:48to residents all over Malaysia, for us to come if they want to neuter their stray dogs, etc.
00:57So Potong Royong, in a way, is a way to encourage people to do a lot more neutering.
01:04Because when we neuter animals, we are actually preventing a lot of unwanted animals to be born.
01:10When people have unwanted animals, they have a lot more dumping on the streets, and that's
01:14where the strays come from.
01:17So indirectly, or even you can say directly, we are preventing strays on the streets.
01:23So we're trying to reduce the number of strays.
01:25The programme offers neutering services for cats at RM50, and dogs at RM80, with support
01:31from veterinarians, veterinary medicine students and volunteers.
01:35So I hope that Potong Royong will catch on, especially with our local councils.
01:42That's because at the end of the day, local councils are in charge of all the stray animals,
01:47and of course all the pets, all the animals within their own areas.
01:50So if they can tackle the stray animals from the source by doing more neutering, then in
01:55the future we'll have less and less stray animals for them to need to control.
02:01Potong Royong will be held until August 3rd.
02:04Interested participants can donate RM100 to help neuter an animal.
