00:00SHAH MERAN LEGENDS
00:04Hello dear friends, welcome to my channel.
00:09Today I will give you information about the legend of Shah Meran,
00:14which is commonly told around Mardin and Tarsus in Turkey.
00:18The origin of the legends about Shah Meran dates back to very old times.
00:25As a matter of fact, according to the information obtained from sources,
00:30snakes that learned that Shah Meran was killed on Tarsus coins from 2000 years ago
00:36were identified as being revived by city attacks in order to take revenge.
00:44It is quite difficult to find a single document or narrative about the origin of the Shah Meran legend.
00:52In some academic studies, it is stated that the source of the legend is directly Indian-Iranian mythology.
01:01The main source in Turkish is a view that Musa Abdi, who lived in the 15th century,
01:07translated the Ottoman Sultan on the order of the second Murad from Farsi,
01:11and was a scholar named Jamasnameh.
01:19The subject is the son of the prophet Daniel, who is described as a foresighted and wise man
01:26in relation to the questions of the Shah Gustasp, the universe and creation,
01:32and the son of the famous Iranian philosopher Zerdüştün Damadı Vezir Camisab.
01:41Shah Meran emerged from the combination of the Persian word Shah with the word Maran.
01:47In other words, it means the king of snakes.
01:51Shah Meran is a legend told in our country in the south and southeast regions.
01:57In these regions, there are many common beliefs about the wisdom of Shah Meran.
02:04While Shah Meran transactions are put on the dowry of young girls to protect them from the eyes of camels,
02:10it is believed that the motives of the guests who come to the house of the Shah Meran motifs hung on the houses are misguided.
02:17According to this belief, those who look at the face of Shah Meran are good-intentioned,
02:22and those who look at the tail are considered bad-intentioned.
02:26In addition to the wisdoms mentioned, Shah Meran also emerges as a healer.
02:33The Shah Meran bath in Tarsus is a point of visit for those who believe that they will get rid of diseases by bathing here.
02:43In ancient times, doctors used both the flesh and skin of the snake as medicine.
02:51In the legend of Shah Meran, three functions were applied to the body of Shah Meran.
02:56It is poison for the bad, healing for the good, and wisdom for those who can make the world a livable place.
03:06Again, in ancient Greek and Latin mythology, Asclepius is the god of health and medicine,
03:12that is, the symbol of healing and wisdom.
03:16The legend of Shah Meran is more of a human story than a snake.
03:21The betrayal of a human being has been described as lust, greed, and greed for power.
03:29According to the legend, when the prophet Daniel was on his deathbed, his wife was pregnant.
03:34Before he takes his last breath, he hands over the notebook to his wife, which he has compiled all his research on,
03:41and warns his son that he believes this notebook will be a great man.
03:47His wife wants to fulfill Daniel's last wish.
03:50However, as you can see, his son Asclepius does not intend to learn to read and write.
03:56On the contrary, he is someone who does not get any work.
03:59That's why his mother takes a bowl to Asclepius and sends him to the forest to collect wood.
04:06Asclepius has now become a businessman and has started to bring bread home.
04:11One day when he goes to collect wood with his friends, the heavy rain makes them have to take refuge in a cave.
04:21Asclepius and his friends start to plow the ground while waiting in the cave.
04:26And they come across a marble lid.
04:30They all lift the lid together.
04:33And they realize that the lid is hiding a honeycomb.
04:37With the discovery of the honeycomb, the children start to fill their bowls here every day and take the honey and sell it on the market.
04:45As the day comes, the honey in the well decreases.
04:48Asclepius's friends tell Asclepius, who discovers the well,
04:51that since you found the well, it is your duty to remove the honey at the bottom of the well.
04:57And they tie a rope around Asclepius's waist and lower him into the well.
05:02Asclepius goes down to the well and fills all the honey into the bowls.
05:06Asclepius's friends pull the honey up, but Asclepius does not pull it up.
05:12They close the mouth of the well again with a marble lid.
05:16Asclepius's friends, who leave the well, take some of the money they get from the honey they sell to Asclepius's mother.
05:26Asclepius's mother says that Asclepius is tearing up the wolves in the forest.
05:33At that time, Asclepius is looking for a way out in the dark cave.
05:40He realizes that a thin light is streaming from the hole that opens while he is hopelessly grazing the cave wall.
05:46He continues to graze towards this light.
05:49It enlarges the hole.
05:51It continues to dig until it reaches the size it will pass through.
05:55Asclepius, who passes through the hole, finds himself in a magical garden like heaven.
06:01Various snakes wrap around Asclepius, who wanders in the garden for a while.
06:07Asclepius, who is surprised by the fear, has begun to wait for his death.
06:11At that time, a creature resembling a giant snake, whose head is the human head, body and tail,
06:20slides towards the throne in the garden and sits on the throne.
06:25Welcome to Asclepius, stranger.
06:28My name is Yemliha.
06:29However, the son of man knows me as Şahmeran.
06:33Who are you?
06:34How did you discover our secret garden?
06:38Asclepius tells Şahmeran what happened to him as if he was betrayed by his friends.
06:45Şahmeran, who calmly listens to what happened to Asclepius,
06:49Asclepius tells him that he must protect the snakes in his tribe against the betrayal of the son of man,
06:55so he will no longer be able to send Asclepius back to earth among the people.
07:03Asclepius begins to live among the snakes helplessly.
07:09Asclepius, who is very well received here, begins to get bored and miss his family over time after many years.
07:18For this reason, he asks for permission from Şahmeran again and again.
07:23Şahmeran, on the other hand, does not want to allow Asclepius to go, saying that if he leaves him, his place can be found immediately by people.
07:32However, Asclepius can no longer stand his insistence.
07:37Asclepius sends his place to his house on the condition that he does not tell anyone and never goes to the bath.
07:45Meanwhile, the Sultan of Tarsus is caught in an important disease.
07:51The well-known doctors of the period cannot find a cure for the disease.
07:56The vizier, who deals with magic, says that the disease of the sultan will only be cured by defeating the flesh of Şahmeran.
08:07The vizier searches Şahmeran everywhere in his country, but cannot find it. He applies to the djinns again.
08:14The vizier of the djinns has a son who has lived with Şahmeran for many years.
08:19That person can never go to the bath, because when he goes to the bath, he becomes like a snake skin below his waist.
08:27Find that person and they will tell you where Şahmeran is.
08:32The vizier orders all men to bathe in the bath with the servants.
08:39All the people go into the bath and get out.
08:42It's time for the vizier.
08:45The vizier enters the bath helplessly and suddenly becomes like a snake skin below his waist while being washed.
08:53The servants immediately catch the vizier and bring him to the vizier's presence.
08:58The vizier does not want to say where Şahmeran is, but he is afraid of being executed, so he says his place.
09:07The servants catch Şahmeran and bring him to the vizier's presence.
09:12Şahmeran realizes that he has been betrayed.
09:16But he wants to meet Camisab for the last time.
09:21He asks Camisab why he betrayed him.
09:26He is convinced by the answer he hears.
09:30Şahmeran wants Camisab to be killed in the bath by Camisab himself,
09:36his body to be cut into three pieces, his head to be cut, his head to be eaten,
09:43his body to be offered to the sultan, and his tail to be eaten by the vizier as a last wish.
09:51Camisab begins to fulfill Şahmeran's last wish as he wishes.
09:59The Şahmeran taken to the bath is killed here and the meat is boiled in three pieces.
10:06Camisab offers the cooked food to the sultan and the sultan recovers instantly.
10:14Then he is offered to the vizier.
10:18The vizier dies of poisoning as soon as he eats.
10:23He eats the part that falls into his share.
10:27As soon as he eats the food, he reaches an incredible level of wisdom and becomes the vizier of the sultan.
10:35According to legend, the snakes are still unaware that Şahmeran was killed.
10:42Because Şahmeran left his palace saying that he would go to the snakes to bathe in the bath and then to a wedding.
10:52The snakes are still waiting for Şahmeran to return from that day to this day.
10:57They think that the wedding will continue with the drum sounds they hear.
11:02One day, when the drum sound is cut off, all the snakes will descend to Tarsus and when they understand that Şahmeran was killed, they will become enemies with everyone and destroy the city.
