00:00I came here to pay my respects to the victims and families who are going
00:14through raw pain and grief that most of us can't imagine, I can't imagine as a
00:20dad myself, to get a briefing from the Chief Constable and the emergency
00:24services about the ongoing investigation, but also importantly to
00:30have the opportunity to say to those that were responding yesterday from the
00:35emergency services, to say a personal thank you to them and to shake their
00:39hand and to say that as Prime Minister on behalf of the country we are grateful
00:45for what they did. They of course say that they will respond, they're
00:48professionals to anything, but there's no pretending that what they had to respond
00:52to yesterday was ordinary, it was very very difficult of them, they were absolutely
00:58professional and it was important for me to come and say simple words, thank you.
01:11I think it touches a nerve with the whole country, it's awful to contemplate
01:17what happened, to hear for myself the experiences of the first responders
01:22what they had to deal with, it's really hard to take in for anybody, it's not
01:29what any of them came to work for, but of course they're professionals and they
01:33deal with it. I think about the families, the friends, the loved ones, those
01:40directly impacted and of course the wider community here, but there's no
01:47pretending I think that anybody in the country is not untouched by what
01:52happened yesterday.
