00:00No one has ever been convicted of the atrocity.
00:03Brie families have spent years fighting for a public inquiry.
00:08After lengthy legal delays, it finally opens today.
00:11We've worked so hard for this for such a long time.
00:16I think it's hugely important.
00:18This is the worst single failure of intelligence and security
00:23in the history of Northern Ireland.
00:26What do you want to get out of the inquiry?
00:28Well, first of all, we need answers.
00:30We need to know, was there anything that could have been done
00:35to prevent this bomb from happening?
00:37That is probably the most important question that we could ask.
00:41It's also important that we learn the lessons
00:44so that others will have a better chance
00:47than what the families here in Noma had.
00:51The inquiry, chaired by Lord Turnbull,
00:53will not call witnesses or hear evidence until next year.
00:57But for those who lost loved ones,
00:59it's an important step forward in a journey that started nearly 26 years ago.
01:05I just feel that Aidan's life was totally and absolutely wasted
01:10in order that some people wanted to make a political point.
01:13He was just a young person that wanted to enjoy his life.
01:16Of course, we will be thinking of Aidan
01:19as we walk down the street to the inquiry
01:21and hopefully have a lot of answers to the questions
01:25that we've all been asking for the past 25 years.
