00:00The gentleman from Pennsylvania is recognized for one and a half minutes.
00:05I thank the gentleman from Texas for yielding.
00:08On July 13th, the Secret Service failed in its mission to protect President Donald J.
00:15Trump by failing to properly secure the perimeter, by failing to adequately communicate about
00:23a security threat, a known security threat, and by failing to keep President Trump from
00:29being struck by a shot fired by a would-be assassin, the Secret Service failed the American
00:36people.
00:38While the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Chadle is a necessary first step,
00:44it does not absolve the agency of its responsibility for what occurred.
00:51To address this critical flaw, Congress must investigate the circumstances that led up
00:57to this incident, including the decisions that were made, and including the decisions
01:03that should have been made to prevent this tragedy.
01:07Among those who were struck by gunfire was Fire Chief Corey Competore, who was killed
01:14while shielding his wife and his daughter.
01:18There needs to be accountability.
01:20There needs to be accountability for what happened on that Saturday afternoon in Butler
01:24County.
01:25And I urge all of my colleagues to support H.R.E.S. 1371, establishing the task force
01:32on the attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump.
01:37Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and I yield back the balance of my time.
01:40Gentleman from Pennsylvania yields back.
01:42Gentleman from Texas.
01:43I'll reserve.
01:44Gentleman reserves.
01:45I reserve, Mr. Speaker.
01:46Gentleman from Massachusetts reserves.
01:48Gentleman from Texas is recognized.
01:50Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
01:51And now I'd like to yield one and a half minutes to the representative from Minnesota,
01:55a valuable member of the Rules Committee, Ms. Fischbach.
01:58Gentlewoman from Minnesota is recognized for one and a half minutes.
02:01Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and thank you, Mr. Chair, for yielding me some time on this issue.
02:07And you know, less than two weeks ago, Donald Trump, a former president and presidential
02:12candidate, was inches away from being assassinated.
02:16Thousands at his rally were put at risk.
02:19And as my colleagues from Pennsylvania mentioned, two people were injured, and Cory Compitore
02:25was tragically killed while protecting his family.
02:31All this happened because of a catastrophic failure on the part of government security
02:35forces.
02:37The resignation of Secret Service Director Cheadle is the first step towards holding
02:42failures accountable.
02:45But there is so much work to be done.
02:47We need to get to the bottom of this failure, and we need to do it now.
02:52I support this legislation, and I urge my colleagues to do the same.
02:57We must get answers to the American people.
03:00Thank you, and I yield back.
03:01Gentlewoman yields back.
03:02Gentleman from Texas Reserves.
03:03Gentleman from Massachusetts Reserves.
