00:00Hi kids, today we will be learning probability.
00:09So let's get started.
00:13Probability is the chance that something will happen or not, or how likely it is that some
00:21event will happen.
00:25Sometimes you can measure a probability with a number like 10% chance of rain, or you can
00:34use words such as impossible, unlikely or possible.
00:42Example, it is unlikely to rain tomorrow, or it is not likely to snow today.
00:53So various words we use to measure probability gives us an idea about the chance of something
01:03happening or not happening.
01:08Now let's answer a few questions based on what we learned on probability.
01:16Sam has a big box which is filled with balls of various colors, and the table here shows
01:26the number of different colors of balls in the box.
01:32Now John picks a ball randomly without looking at the balls.
01:40We have to explore various possibilities about the color of ball.
01:48That can be picked by answering a few questions.
01:53So let's start.
01:56Which ball is most likely to be picked?
02:02Yellow ball, as they are the most in number.
02:08Which ball is least likely to be picked?
02:13Blue ball, as they are least in number.
02:20Is there a greater chance to pick a red ball or a green ball?
02:27There is a greater chance to pick a red ball, as red balls are more in number than green
02:36balls.
02:39Is there a smaller chance to pick a blue ball or a green ball?
02:47There is a smaller chance to pick a blue ball, as blue balls are less than green balls.
02:58Is there any chance to pick a pink ball?
03:02No, there is no chance, as there is no pink ball.
03:10A word to describe the probability of picking a pink ball will be never.
03:20If John has to bet that he will pick the ball, he will guess which ball should John guess
03:28to win the bet.
03:31John should guess yellow ball.
03:35As yellow ball is most probable or likely to be picked, and if he bets to pick yellow
03:43ball, most chances are there that John will pick yellow ball and can win over the bet.
03:54If all the blue balls are removed from the box, which balls are least likely to be picked?
04:04If blue balls are removed, green balls and orange balls will be the least in number,
04:13so they are least likely to be picked.
04:18Now let's answer one more question.
04:24If all the yellow balls are removed from the box, which ball does Sam should guess to win
04:32in the game of picking the same ball without looking?
04:39Red ball.
04:41As red balls are most in number, so they are most probable or likely to be picked.
04:50So Sam should guess the red ball to win, if all yellow balls are removed from the box.
04:59Good!
05:01Now, which balls are equally likely to be picked?
05:09Green and orange balls are equally likely or evenly likely to be picked as they are
05:17same in number.
05:21So kids, probability is the likelihood of something happening or not happening.
05:31Now let's take another example where we can study probability.
05:38Kids, here we have a spinner with some numbers on it.
05:47Now let's answer a few questions based on the spinner.
05:54Which of the following words describes the chances of spinner A stopping at 5?
06:03Likely, unlikely, never, evenly likely.
06:11It's unlikely as 5 is there only once on the spinner.
06:18Now let's move to the next question.
06:23Which of the following word describes the chances of spinner A stopping at 2 or 3?
06:32It's evenly likely as 2 and 3 occurs same number of times on the spinner.
06:42Which of the following word describes the chances of spinner A stopping at 1?
06:51Likely, as 1 is there most number of times on the spinner.
06:58Now, which of the following word describes the chances of spinner A stopping at 7?
07:13It's never as 7 is not there on the spinner.
07:19So there is no chance that spinner will stop at 7.
07:26Okay kids, so today we learned about probability and various words we can use to describe the
07:36probability.
07:40Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
07:44Bye-bye.
