00:00When the number of animals in the wild is close to zero,
00:06it is called critically endangered.
00:11In the Philippines, many animals are already in the Code Critical.
00:22Visayan Spotted Deer or Lagsaw is estimated to be only 700 in the wild.
00:30The so-called reason for the decline of their numbers
00:35is the depletion of their habitat
00:40and the hunt for them to eat.
00:45In a facility in Negros, they are trying to multiply.
00:53I am fortunate to be able to help in the regular check-up of critically endangered species.
01:01We don't need to use a tranquilizer
01:06because our procedure is very simple.
01:10We just need to catch them and transfer them to a nearby enclosure.
01:24Game?
01:26The legs, the legs, the legs.
01:28Transfer?
01:30Yes.
01:36His body is hot because of the water.
01:39One, two, three, okay.
01:44One, two, three.
01:51As you can see, when we released him, he didn't move.
01:54He played dead, which is one of the instincts or behavior of a wild animal.
02:02He would kill, but when he saw that it was safe, he ran away.
02:07That was scary.
02:09These animals are very strong.
02:12We're down with one.
02:14One more to go.
02:25His belly is hot.
02:30Give him some water.
02:43We have a procedure here called ear tagging.
02:47This is a form of identification so that we can know who he is, his parents, and how many generations he has been.
02:56There.
03:04It's good?
03:06It's okay.
03:08It's just very fast.
03:09Go.
03:12These deer are so cute.
03:16Everybody in this organization wishes that someday they'll be released back into the wild.
03:23In the fear of being caught and killed, it's rare to see people fall.
03:31But in 2019, someone visited a house in Negros Occidental.
03:37It's like someone is looking for something outside the house.
03:41Since then, he has always wandered around.
03:46There were even times when he was with the goats.
03:52They used to live in that house.
03:57They were not here yet.
03:59So they told us to leave the house.
04:04But we couldn't.
04:06Because this area belongs to them.
04:14Some of the deer here are ready to return to the wild.
04:20The problem is, there is no place where they can be released.
04:26The process of reintroducing to the species needs to be studied.
04:32It's not just about the population count, the number, the area, the situation, etc.
04:41All of this information needs to be considered for this one.
04:47Until the number of deer in the wild does not increase, they will remain in Code Critical.
04:55Thank you so much for watching Born to be Wild.
