00:00From his native pine trees, pines on the Culmore Road, Dolo Sullivan was set on a journey where
00:06he studied and achieved his lifelong qualification and through his studies he was to meet Anne,
00:13a native of Dublin and in turn to build a home and their home here in Derry.
00:19Dolo Sullivan was always proud of his work and through this city and further afield he
00:25would say that his work and his profession, he would give people smiles.
00:30Coming from a family of medics, he devoted so much of his life to the National Health
00:35Service and set up a place where people would come for treatment.
00:40He instilled a great work ethic in the lives of those around him, hard work, a man who
00:45was generous and was said beautifully, someone with a good heart.
00:50He was always proud of his family roots and his family name, Mulcahy from Clonmahill.
00:56Spending summers in Ring and Waterford as a child and as a teenager created treasured
01:02memories of going there on holidays.
01:05From Clongos, a boarding school in Dublin, he was proud of his educational background,
01:10setting up on his journey of study and in turn that of work and providing for others.
01:17Dolo Sullivan worked hard, enjoyed the fun and the leisure of life's journey, an adventurous
01:22sailor honouring memory of Lough Swilly, Yacht Club and from the years of experience he so
01:29much enjoyed.
01:30In that first reading that Noel ran, Ring talks about the gift of time, time in so many
01:36aspects and so many situations, time for sailing and I'm told he forged a path to be carved
01:44in 1999, the first to take the boat in the Ark Race across the Atlantic.
01:49Amateur racers and company among those, many were to follow in that race path.
01:54In those situations he was certainly adventurous and enabled others in their sailing to go
02:00beyond themselves and so that sense of sailing, his leisure and holiday was so important to
02:06him in different places and that he did enjoy and again that gift of time.
02:12As we bring together those little snippets of Noel's earthly life and his story, we thank
02:17God for his influence in the lives of many, his educational, his boarding skills, his
02:24professional life and we pray this afternoon that he is now at peace.
02:29Those words of the second reading that Judith read, blessed are those who dine the Lord
02:33and they can rest forever after their work since their good deeds go with them.
02:39Our prayer is that God may reward Noel for his kindness, for his graciousness and show
02:45him mercy and may his entire family circle find comfort and serenity at this time.
02:52As we remember Noel O'Sullivan, his family and as a faith community, Noel who worked
02:57and played and who fought the battle of life, we learn ourselves this day too to use the
03:03gifts of grace and the gift of love entrusted to all of us.
03:07We know to in many ways live out the command of Christ, those words, in the way, the truth
03:14and the life.
03:15In the midst of pain, in the midst of death, in the midst of suffering, to know that Christ
03:19journeys with all of us to believe that for Noel O'Sullivan, life is now changed and not
03:25ended.
03:26And we ask this in a prayer of faith and a prayer of hope.
03:30May he rest in peace.
03:32Amen.
03:33We offer sympathy to you Anne, to Noel Anne, to Moira, to Garrett and the entire family
03:41circle and for you as neighbours and friends and those who loved and known this man, may
03:47you find strength and serenity at this time.
03:50O Angel of God, my guard and dear, to whom God's love commits me here, may for this day
03:56be at my side, light to guard and guide.
04:00Amen.
04:02And so we stand to pray.
04:26God the Almighty Father, we ask Christ, his Son, the dead and with confidence we ask him
04:31to save his people, living and dead.
04:33We pray for Noel O'Sullivan, whom baptism has given the pledge of eternal life.
04:38May he now be admitted to the company of the saints.
04:41Lord hear us.
04:42Lord hear us.
04:43For he is a child of God, who tried to follow the example of Christ, for he who ate the
04:49body of Christ, the bread of life, may he be raised up on the last day.
04:54Lord hear us.
04:55Lord hear us.
04:56We assemble here in faith and with confidence to pray for Noel O'Sullivan, strengthen our
05:02hope that we may live in the expectation of your Son's coming, that Christ who said,
05:07in a way, the truth and the life.
05:10Lord hear us.
05:11Lord hear us.
05:12We pray for each other, for you as a family and a wider family circle, neighbours and
05:16friends.
05:17We pray those gifts of strength and serenity.
05:21Lord hear us.
05:22Lord hear us.
