00:00At the 2023 World Championships, Simone Biles cemented her status as the greatest of all

00:06time. She won her 34th medal across World Championships and Olympics, making her the

00:11most decorated gymnast of all time. She went on to win another three medals, bringing that

00:15total to 37. While her first Olympics was in Rio in 2016, she was catapulted to international

00:22stardom after winning four golds and a bronze. But Biles' story isn't just one of success.

00:28There's been struggles and setbacks too. Expectations were huge for the Tokyo Games.

00:33She was tipped to win an unprecedented six golds. Things didn't go to plan. Biles developed

00:38a mental block known in gymnastics as the twisties. She did win a silver and bronze

00:43but pulled out of the four other events to focus on her physical and mental health. Biles

00:48revealed after that she was struggling to recover mentally after being sexually abused

00:52by former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. He's serving a life sentence for

00:58abusing young athletes under his care. And Biles was one of four US gymnasts to testify

01:03before the Senate in an investigation into the FBI's handling of the case. The artistic

01:08gymnast returned to competing in 2023. During her time off, she married her longtime partner,

01:15NFL player Jonathan Owens, and he'll be cheering her on in Paris after being granted special

01:20permission to leave a training camp. And she recently starred in a documentary called

01:25Simone Biles Rising. In it, she speaks about her experience in the foster care system and

01:30then being adopted by her grandfather and his wife who she calls her mum and dad. She

01:35credits them with helping her achieve her dreams. And now she's in the French capital

01:39getting ready for her third Games and it could be her best yet.
