00:00:00It is Chelsea versus Celtic from the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana. Chelsea got their
00:00:05preseason action underway on Wednesday with a 2-2 draw in Santa Clara against
00:00:10Wrexham. They're looking for their first win today. Your commentators for the game
00:00:13Drake Ordero and Jamie Watson. We will see you at halftime.
00:00:22Hello and welcome to the iconic Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana on a
00:00:27spectacular sun-soaked afternoon. A highly promising preseason clash between Chelsea
00:00:33and Celtic at the home of the Fighting Irish. It's just eight days now until kickoff to the
00:00:38domestic season in Scotland so Celtic wrapping up their preseason play. Earlier in their
00:00:43preseason prep are Chelsea who are still three weeks away from the start of the Premier League
00:00:48season but a new coach as Enzo Marisca sets out his second starting XI. Two changes from that
00:00:532-2 draw against Wrexham. Jamie Wesley Fofana getting his first preseason start
00:00:58and Mikaela Mudrik makes his first appearance his first minutes of his preseason.
00:01:02Reece James will start as the right back defensively but when Chelsea have the ball
00:01:06he will tuck in centrally. For number 18 Christopher Nkunku is a player I have my eye on
00:01:12today. He had an injury plagued season last year with hamstring and knee injuries where he missed
00:01:17over 30 games but a new manager with a new opportunity. He has a clean first touch 1v1
00:01:23causes problems tactically unbalancing the opponents look for that this afternoon.
00:01:27Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers setting off for what is now the second
00:01:30season of his second spell in charge of the hoops and Celtic make two changes of their own from that
00:01:364-3 win over Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday. U.S. international Cameron
00:01:41Carter-Vickers had an extended break after the Copa America. He starts while Nicholas Kuhn who
00:01:46had two goals and an assist against the Citizens is left out of the matchday squad altogether. He's
00:01:50replaced by James Forrest on the wing. Here now the third member of our broadcast team Katie
00:01:56Witham is pitch side. Katie. Well after just one preseason match it's evident that new Chelsea
00:02:01manager Enzo Maresca has a distinct style of play and a passionate hands-on approach. In fact earlier
00:02:07this week at Chelsea's open training session out in California Maresca was actively participating
00:02:13in drills engaging with his players showcasing just why his teams quickly buy in. In fact his
00:02:19player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who played for him at Leicester City is now at Chelsea. He commented
00:02:25on his manager's knowledge and his presence. He said look I thought I knew a lot about football
00:02:29but I learned something new under him every single day. He called him top level. Now Chelsea's focus
00:02:35here is to get the most out of their U.S. tour and they start again tonight. Thank you Katie.
00:02:50Final checks for the referee. This is a pet catch and we're underway at Notre Dame stadium
00:02:59on this temporary grass pitch which looks to be in excellent condition for a preseason clash
00:03:04between Chelsea and Celtic and flying forward early onto the blues a chance for Chupo Meca
00:03:11and cutting out the angle just in time the new signing for Celtic Kasper Schmeichel.
00:03:15How's that for excitement off the bat? Less than 15 seconds in it's the movement of James
00:03:21into the middle of the park. Guillaume has a wonderful turn and it's a heavy touch from Chupo
00:03:26Meca that lets him down in the final third and that's where he has to clean it up. He has to be
00:03:31better in that moment. The 20 year old should do better in that moment and Celtic are let off from
00:03:35a disastrous start. Early corner from Chelsea. In swinger, heart of the area.
00:03:44It's Colwell who dealt with it and Schmeichel watches it out. Rince and repeat from the same
00:03:48corner flag. Mostly Fofana who featured in the second half of Chelsea's preseason opener
00:03:57on Wednesday making his first start. He hasn't played an official game
00:04:01for the blues in something like 404 days. We have seen from Celtic over the course of this
00:04:16preseason campaign for them they've looked fresher, fitter than the opposition at every
00:04:22step of the way. Celtic's game model is about high pressure that starts with Kiyoko
00:04:27up top and that's his work rate defensively that helps dictate the press
00:04:31for Chelsea and offensively he's a tireless work rate. He's the type of forward that really will
00:04:36press but look at this quickly you play out of it but Celtic love to get numbers around they
00:04:41win it back they try to go quickly early it's not on this is when they keep possession if you can't
00:04:45go within two passes. Here's the first touch it is for the U.S. international American Cameron
00:04:50Carter Vickers and Chelsea will have a throw in their own half the Vickers. Carter Vickers
00:04:59giving a little extended break following in Copa America with the U.S. disappointing
00:05:04group stage exit. He does get his first start. He's chased down by scales. Schmeichel under
00:05:14pressure. Here's Cameron Vickers. Branton Uralston is Scottish international.
00:05:19He's from Rio Hatate in central midfield. It's a promising build up for the hoops.
00:05:29An aggressive challenge and when Maeda draws the foul it'll be a free kick as
00:05:33the captain Reece James the guilty party and a quick restart trying to catch Celtic mapping that post.
00:05:39Dealing with it just in time was young Levi Colwell. Chelsea need to do a better job instantly
00:05:50on restart someone has to stand in front of it they cannot let Chelsea or they cannot let Celtic
00:05:53go quickly on these restarts that's poor from Chelsea early on. You've seen the captain Reece
00:06:01James in a slightly different role this game and the last for Celtic. Spends more time in
00:06:07midfield you see him right in the center of the park now it's a position that he's not
00:06:10totally unfamiliar with played at youth level entering the brief spell
00:06:14unknown at Wigan. He's a central midfielder for now they're calling it an inverted fullback.
00:06:20Let's give it away one back by Chupuameca.
00:06:27That's good strength but Chupuameca is actually punished for trying to stay on his feet
00:06:32that moment he's trying to use his frame and his physical technique to be able
00:06:37to defend scales by also trying to cleverly play it through.
00:06:43He can't give it away by Celtic in a dangerous position.
00:06:46Scales getting a touch on it the headers pushed away by Schmeichel to deny him.
00:06:50Chelsea regroup through the co-op. The captain James had it poked loose.
00:07:20Holding all the way back to Kasper Schmeichel and we'll get a second chance at that
00:07:25Chelsea chance. Just suffocating pressure and this is where it hung up and fightingly.
00:07:30He's got to get a bit more locked on he's gone for power from that distance
00:07:33but Kasper Schmeichel is too good of a shot stopper he's going to make that save
00:07:36lofted up and over that's the way you're going to beat Schmeichel from that distance.
00:07:50James skipping over the challenge.
00:07:53Will James picked up from behind by Celtic captain Callum McGregor.
00:08:04It's a bright start for Chelsea just game number two of their pre-season.
00:08:07It's a Celtic team that is a week away from kicking off their
00:08:12Scottish Premier League campaign on 12 of the last 13 in Scotland.
00:08:18Celtic got an impressive 4-3 win over Manchester City in Chapel Hill on Tuesday night.
00:08:23The scoreline flatters Manchester City. Celtic were all over them it was their high press but
00:08:28what's different about so far in this afternoon Chelsea is putting more numbers in the middle
00:08:32part Celtic had the advantage over Manchester City because they had a numbers overload in
00:08:36the middle of the field right now Chelsea has it that's why they're winning it in higher positions.
00:08:40McGregor takes it in stride looking for the anvil it's on targets
00:08:44still losing the six and somehow kept out by Schmeichel.
00:08:51Chupo-Mecca with Chelsea's second tearcut chance of the game.
00:09:00It's the pressure from Bujic that causes the turnover as it starts to develop this is going
00:09:07to hang up. Chupo-Mecca takes the touch from his right foot to his left to be able to try to get
00:09:12it away from the defender and it's the last second sliding effort from Carter Vickers that ultimately
00:09:18forces the rushed effort that's why it can't be turned in from inside the six.
00:09:21There's Forrest played in behind looking for Thiago.
00:09:25She may have won it but gave it away.
00:09:30It's a couple of times now that Celtic have given the ball back
00:09:33to Chelsea inside of their own final third.
00:09:35Let's look at Benoit Badiachil who's anchoring with his at times a three-man back line with
00:09:45Forfana and Cole on either side. Notice that James is almost always inside of Forfana and Badiachil.
00:09:52When Rhys James is in the middle of the park that's a better sign for Chelsea that means
00:09:55they have possession of all that means that they're dictating the pace of play.
00:09:58When Rhys James is at a right back position that means Celtic has the advantage.
00:10:03Keep an eye on tactically how that shifts and how that
00:10:06changes for the Chelsea backboard for the Chelsea captain Rhys James in particular.
00:10:17Thiago coming all the way back to help Celtic build out of the back.
00:10:23This might be the big offseason acquisition so far for Brendan Rogers and Celtic
00:10:29following the retirement and departure of Joe Hart.
00:10:46More patient out of the back this time by the Hoops.
00:10:50Brendan Rogers again the second season of his second spell.
00:10:54All he's done is win nine trophies in four seasons with Celtic including back-to-back
00:10:58domestic troubles back in 2017-2018.
00:11:05Let's have a play from Celtic. Kiyoko sneaking in behind arriving in the areas.
00:11:09Kiyoko! And kicked away by Robert Sanchez called into action for the first time.
00:11:14Kiyoko has absolutely made the wrong decision. It's the right run
00:11:17wrong decision at the most important moment.
00:11:20It's a high line from Chelsea. Kiyoko who is a star. It's an electric pace
00:11:26always makes the right decision except when it's needed most right here. He's
00:11:29got to do better in that situation. Clipped into the area. Taylor! Oh he snuck in behind.
00:11:36The offside flag comes up against the fullback.
00:11:41That is such a big let off for Chelsea. In that moment Kiyoko had a pair of teammates
00:11:47screaming for in the middle. It's a player you can generally count on to make the right decision
00:11:52that time. He had already decided that he was going to have the effort go to the near post.
00:11:58Better option there is either square it or shoot to the far post. So if it forces a save from
00:12:02Sanchez it goes right into the path of one of his two teammates.
00:12:10Back to scales and further still to Schmeichel to play out of the back.
00:12:13Kasper Schmeichel part of that fairytale Premier League season for Leicester City. He was at
00:12:18Anderlecht last season and now joining Celtic on a free transfer this summer.
00:12:28Hard to overstate just how dominant Celtic has been in the Scottish Premier League.
00:12:33Trying to carry that over into European play.
00:12:36Confident but really gets himself in trouble. Kiyo was closing him down.
00:12:45Right now you can see Rhys James at the bottom of your screen. There's the back four for Chelsea.
00:12:49That's indication in the last 120 seconds or so that Celtic are starting to get a little bit
00:12:54of a lead. They're going to have a little bit of a lead. They're going to have a little bit of a
00:12:57lead. They're going to have a little bit of a lead. They're going to have a little bit of a lead.
00:13:00That's indication in the last 120 seconds or so that Celtic are starting
00:13:05to establish dominance with the ball. And tactically that's a better sign for Celtic.
00:13:09It's worse off for Chelsea when Rhys James is pinned back and they can't have that
00:13:13number overloaded in the middle of the park.
00:13:14And here come the hoops. Four against three. Advantage Celtic.
00:13:34Kofana just getting a touch on it. Taking all this sting off of the ball.
00:13:38This is where Celtic want to be against Chelsea. Rhys James pinned back. Maeda who was excellent
00:13:451v1 against Manchester City. Gave a lesson to Rico Lewis all night long Tuesday night.
00:13:50When they can get Rhys James pinned back, Maeda 1v1, that's where Celtic are winning
00:13:56the middle of the park. That's how they're going to be better than Chelsea today.
00:13:58Real Hidate and Naisan Maeda, two Japanese internationals who missed the start of preseason
00:14:04for Celtic. They were on international duty with Japan playing World Cup qualifiers against
00:14:09Myanmar and Syria. Taking part now in the last two.
00:14:22Possession given away by Romeo Lavia.
00:14:26Possession given away by Romeo Lavia.
00:14:32Matate from distance. Was parried by Sanchez but still left loose inside of the 18. Maeda
00:14:39couldn't capitalize. No pressure from Hatate so he's going to have the effort from distance.
00:14:46And as the save is forced, Maeda should actually run in between the ball and Sanchez and stop.
00:14:52That's a good look at that effort from Matate. That was most certainly going to sneak inside
00:14:57the right post from Sanchez. As Maeda won that second effort. Get in between the goalkeeper
00:15:03and then stop. Absorb the contact inside the box. He'd won the race to it.
00:15:06Tried to be clever and ultimately gave away a goal kick from it.
00:15:13Not the cleanest play out of the back this time between
00:15:16Romo Sanchez and Kofana. Here comes Celtic trying to capitalize.
00:15:22Pass is cut out by Colwell. Harder Vickers. Scales.
00:15:27A lot of confidence in both central defenders scales and Carter Vickers with the ball at their
00:15:48feet.
00:16:00It's tracked down by Reese James as Chelsea looked to build.
00:16:09Support on the inside from Madueke trying to square it in. Scales had it red. Corner for Chelsea.
00:16:19Madueke has elite speed at this level and he starts to pull away from Taylor. So Taylor has
00:16:26to take a new angle. It brings over Scales. That's where you get those runs from the midfield.
00:16:32Madueke is looking for the likes of Nkunku in the middle of the park to try to cut it back.
00:16:36He's going to draw two players over and look for him to try to provide early service.
00:16:39The captain James outswinging her toward the spot.
00:16:55Everyone eager to impress the new boss Enzo Maresca and maybe none more than Madueke who
00:17:00showed up to training camp early. That's how you do it when a new coach shows up.
00:17:04Absolutely. First one in, last one out. Make a good impression of the manager.
00:17:08What a turn in the middle of the park. Taylor floats it forward using the full width of the
00:17:16pitch. Here's Celtic. Looking off the ball. It's wide once more. The offside flag comes up.
00:17:35Celtic scored two fabulous goals against Manchester City and it came from turns in the
00:17:42middle of the park like that from Itate. Steps in front of the defender. Uses his body as a shield
00:17:47whilst turning and then it was the next ball through and with the high line that Chelsea
00:17:51are playing there's an enormous amount of space in behind to try to play through. It's making the
00:17:57eyes from the Celtic front three get bigger and bigger every time a player in the center of the
00:18:01park is able to turn for Celtic. His body as a shield driving forward.
00:18:08And a strong finish at the end of the Premier League campaign. Moni Madueke scored three of
00:18:32his goals in the final five-game stretch. Chelsea finished strong.
00:18:39I'll be at sixth place. Disappointing for a club used to winning trophies. It is better than 12th
00:18:43for the previous season. Once again a restart, a fresh start and betting on youth. Young players
00:18:52the lengthy contract seven and eight years down the line.
00:19:06Quentin Rodgers locked in an intense conversation in the bench.
00:19:22And he's running in behind. Has a view on the inside. It's Nkunku.
00:19:41Can't see him, he's gone. James a bit of a desperate shot from distance and he's blocked.
00:19:44Overhead looking for Madueke on the near side. Celtic will get the ball back in play via throw.
00:19:57On the third member of our broadcast team, Katie Witham is pitch side. Katie, how are you seeing it?
00:20:02Over on the Chelsea sideline Enzo Maresca, a lot of little feedback tidbits out to his players on
00:20:07the field. Most recently concerned with his lines, making sure those guys are staying connected out
00:20:12there. But he got the attention of number 11 Nani Madueke, telling him to be positionally aware when
00:20:16he can come inside, do it. But he likes the matchup against Celtic defender Greg Taylor, telling him
00:20:21pointedly when you can go at him. Here's O'Reilly. James Forrest. With numbers once again is Celtic
00:20:32cut to the inside and Sanchez parries it wide. Corner for Celtic. Tuesday night Celtic had a ton
00:20:40of success on their right side through Nicholas Kuhn who's out today of the matchday squad. So in
00:20:45comes Forrest, similar type action. Cutting in from the right, that left foot. That's where Celtic find
00:20:53their numbers. Now they're going to go short to try to see if they can draw the big bodies from
00:20:57Chelsea out to try to find some space in behind. Very compact right now from Chelsea.
00:21:01He's into the heart of the 18. Promising and they found the opener. Matt O'Reilly.
00:21:14Unmarked inside the 18 and the old man gets it done. One nil to Celtic. One nil to the Hoops.
00:21:21Celtic draw Chelsea out with a short corner and nobody comes and closes down Matt O'Reilly.
00:21:34It's too late of a step from Colwell. The first touch allows O'Reilly to open himself up off a
00:21:40season where he had 19 goals last year. The Player's Player of the Year picks up right where he left
00:21:45off a week before the season starts in the Scottish Premiership. Matt O'Reilly in fine form. It's a
00:21:50smart finish. This will be the best look. Open it up with the first touch. Use Colwell as his shield
00:21:56to go around Sanchez. Easy does it. Brendan Rodgers. Hail, hail to the fans in attendance.
00:22:02They got what they wanted to see from old man Matt O'Reilly. At 23 years old, yeah.
00:22:10He'll be the youngest man needing a cane in the state of Indiana, but nonetheless what a finish.
00:22:16What a smart build-up from Celtic though. To understand O'Reilly's positioning, they didn't
00:22:21just lump it in understanding the height advantage that Chelsea has. So they draw him out. They find
00:22:27the pocket of space and from that three in the midfield O'Reilly pops up unmarked. It's inexcusable
00:22:33defensively from Chelsea. This is one back by Reece James. Now Nkunku driving forward into space.
00:22:39Looking for the youngster view and those are coming together still. They allowed to continue and
00:22:46scrambling back. It's cleared off the line in front of an empty net by the fullback Greg Taylor.
00:22:56Pass was intended for Mark Yew, a teenager who makes relentless runs in behind time and time
00:23:01again. Nkunku tried to reward him. That's much better from Nkunku. Could have seen
00:23:09the foul given there. It wasn't from Ismir Pekmik.
00:23:14Yew, it's his movement is what really separates him and when he leads the line with so many players
00:23:19that striking speed behind him. He needs to try to continue to move in behind centrally
00:23:24between the two centerbacks for Celtic. Nkunku on the ball. Chukwumeka.
00:23:28Once again, Nkunku is driven into the 18. It's overhead for Yew in the middle and for Maduik out wide.
00:23:42A lot of responsibility will be at the feet of Christopher Nkunku, the
00:23:46former PSG youth broadcaster. He broke out in the Bundesliga with Robby Leipzig.
00:23:51First and foremost, he has to stay fit. When he is fit on a very young squad,
00:24:00he'll be asked to contribute goals, assists, and leadership. In fact, the two oldest players on this
00:24:04Chelsea starting XI today are 26 years old, Robert Sanchez and Nkunku.
00:24:10Nkunku, when he gets around the top of the 18 and he's got the ball at his feet,
00:24:14he's so good 1v1, he gets the defenders dancing. He's trying to calibrate himself,
00:24:18figure out that moment when he can get that striking effort off towards goal.
00:24:21Maduik dealing with a double team. It's the mouth of goal. It's last touch by Taylor.
00:24:38It's James over to take
00:24:39the third quarter for Chelsea.
00:24:54Conceded by James. It's attacked in the heart of the area by Wesley Fofano.
00:24:59The foul is used against Chelsea.
00:25:09And slow to get up was the fullback, Anthony Ralston. I thought Ralston was fantastic
00:25:14on Tuesday night. Keep in mind, Alistair Johnson getting extended leave after his duty
00:25:20with Canada. Ralston sticks his head in between, scales who's coming through,
00:25:25and then Fofano who's colliding in at the same time. You've got to be brave to stick your head
00:25:29in there and he absorbs that contact really well. It's an opportunity for Ralston to try to impress.
00:25:39Alistair Johnson has proven to be one of the best right backs in all of the CONCACAF region and
00:25:44nothing but success at Celtic in that position. A little bit of an opportunity for Ralston to
00:25:48impress Brendan Rodgers on this American tour. This was laid off a little short, giving away to
00:25:54Chupuameca. Manduweke on the near side now stretching his Celtic defense.
00:25:59On his left is Manduweke looking for an opening.
00:26:06He's a little hesitant. Yeah, maybe should have taken a little bit earlier.
00:26:11As he starts to go across then you can see he's completely switched the mindset into
00:26:15wanting to play provider instead of trying to go for goal himself.
00:26:19So that's Manduweke who's flat-footed so Manduweke's unable to garner any real strength on it.
00:26:26It's another player who cuts short his post-Euro break. Manduweke hopes of
00:26:32putting in time under Enzo Maresca.
00:26:38Maeda was running in behind and has a step on Reece James. Maeda
00:26:41tasted his stride but he's offside at an early start.
00:26:45Celtic and their verticality, their ability to stretch the field
00:26:49plays well tactically against Chelsea. We're playing with such a high line. Reece James
00:26:55continuing to figure out when to stick, when to move, when to be a right back, when to come in
00:27:00centrally. And right now Celtic, the meat and potatoes of this attack, have been getting in
00:27:04behind early and often.
00:27:07They restarted a little quickly for referees liking. We'll do it again for Fofana.
00:27:19Padilla-Shield, no way forward for Chelsea. He'll lean on Sanchez.
00:27:25Fabio.
00:27:29Padilla-Shield.
00:27:30Fabio.
00:27:34Fabio-Shield.
00:27:37It's Fofana who's almost a right back.
00:27:41All the way on the near side with Reece James taking up that spot in the center.
00:27:48Fabio-Shield. And those are the things that get worked out during the preseason, that connectivity
00:27:54and some new roles.
00:27:57Oh and this is a testament as we're going to have a hydration break right at the 25-minute
00:28:01mark here. This is a testament to what Celtic have done in the last 15 minutes or so to change
00:28:08tactically. They're doing better on the ball to keep possession. They're putting more numbers in
00:28:13the midfield. In the first 10 minutes, Chelsea with the movement of James into the middle of the park
00:28:17going to three in the back, they were doing much better. But since in the last 15 minutes,
00:28:22they haven't been able to dictate the pace of game. And that's mainly due to the fact that
00:28:26Celtic are starting to keep better ball retention, put more numbers in the park and it's led to a
00:28:30goal. Brendan Rodgers has to be thrilled with the in-game adjustment of his side. It's a fairly
00:28:36pleasant 83 degrees in South Bend, Indiana tonight. Still beyond the threshold. This is right on the
00:28:42cusp of the threshold, let's be honest. It is lovely here today. It's picture perfect. Not a
00:28:47cloud in the sky for this matchup and it's still preseason. So everybody want to enjoy a drink over
00:28:54here. But I think what your impression of the first 25 minutes, Jimmy Celtic have grown into this game
00:28:58and they look like a team that's ready to take on the title defense for their fourth consecutive
00:29:03Scottish Premiership trophy. They look fit. They look as though their ability to pass out of
00:29:10pressure defensively is going to lead to opportunities where ultimately you break
00:29:14the press and you break the midfield lines and then those front three have been devastating with
00:29:18their speed. Forrest who's in place for Kuhn today, Kiyoko up top and Maeda. Every time
00:29:25a midfielder turns herself they just look to go in behind as quickly as possible.
00:29:31Chelsea meanwhile played 21 of the 28 players on this traveling roster. Got minutes in that
00:29:37preseason opener on Wednesday. Two of the goalkeepers did not. Others getting their chance out today.
00:29:43I mean look at Chelsea right now. They are still very early stages. Their first match with Wrexham is
00:29:48you alluded to on Wednesday. But then they run up to a gauntlet of who's who of the rest of the
00:29:53preseason. They'll take on Club America on Wednesday night in Atlanta. Then they'll face Manchester
00:29:59City in Columbus on Saturday August 3rd. Then from there how about this one? You go to from
00:30:04Man City to Real Madrid after that. Into Milan after that. Then they finally open up their season
00:30:11with Manchester City at home on the 18th of August. But my goodness. Easy enough. Yeah. As you do
00:30:17for a casual preseason. Montemarisco will get a really good look at his squad. His new squad and
00:30:22all of their youth against top level competition. Winner of the EFL championship last season
00:30:33with Leicester leading them back into the Premier League. In fact both managers today former Foxes.
00:30:41It's also important to note too that they're missing some players Chelsea today right?
00:30:53They've got an early start once again Kiyoko and the flag does come up.
00:30:57I don't blame Kiyoko for his willingness to want to go in behind with such a high line.
00:31:01Some of the players missing for Chelsea today will also be key figures to this. So whilst these are
00:31:07very important games and time to grow together as a group both on and off the field. You're still
00:31:14missing Enzo, Fernandez, Kukureta, Cole Palmer. Georgie Pachovic used to play straight at Major
00:31:22League Soccer. Look out. Chukwemeke was closing down. It's Schmeichel who got there first.
00:31:31It's now done by O'Reilly and the switch is played to find Maeda near side. Kiyoko's
00:31:34tripping forward. Back post is Kiyoko. What a save that is by Sanchez to keep it out.
00:31:442v1 and the one was the goalkeeper. Oh my goodness what a save. That doesn't give some
00:31:50life to this Chelsea side and I don't know what will. It should be 2-0 Celtic right now.
00:31:56That is an out of this world save from Sanchez.
00:31:58And to your point players like Enzo Fernandez, Kukureta, Cole Palmer. They're being extended
00:32:06off seasons after
00:32:10Euro and Copa America finals. Also still haven't seen the debut of Nusain and Kieran in Dewsbury
00:32:18Hall. He along with Nicholas Jackson and Axel Desassis still working on their fitness getting
00:32:23back to game shape. Mudrik was part of that list but fit enough to start today. Nusain and Caleb
00:32:31Wiley coming over from Atlanta United as well. Interesting to see how he fits tactically in this
00:32:36system. He's got some experience. That's a good feed for Madueke to keep possession but Wiley has
00:32:42some experience to be able to play that left back roll where he tucks in as well centrally when
00:32:47needed. He's going to be a good fit for Enzo Madeska.
00:32:50Look at the heavy touch by Yashin with the winning back for the Blues.
00:33:02One of your first half touches for Noemi Madueke.
00:33:06He's running into the area.
00:33:09Scores just enough.
00:33:14Let's go back and look at this world-class save. What a turn from O'Reilly. Maeda understands that
00:33:19Kiyoko started an offside position but as he takes those dribbles he can reintroduce Kiyoko
00:33:24back into the play and Sanchez just throws himself full of hope and he pulls off the
00:33:31spectacular save. Seems to hover horizontally.
00:33:37Once more with Forrest. Tipped into the back post plucked out of the air by an inspired Robert Sanchez.
00:33:44Says he modeled his game after fellow Spaniards Cedric Garcia and David De Gea.
00:34:03Taylor. McGregor. Look how compact Chelsea are. That is compactness that you haven't seen from
00:34:12this Chelsea side before and what that does is it gives no passing lanes inside. The only options
00:34:19you have are backwards or around the side and Chelsea are more than content doing that because
00:34:24of that compactness. Now they're able to take 30 yards different but when they get expanded like
00:34:28this that's where the pockets start to open up for Celtic. O'Reilly. Long switch looking for James
00:34:34Forrest out wide. Just a ball to sleep. Mover lap was on. Forrest cutting it to the inside.
00:34:42On his left. Greg Taylor. Forrest again out wide. Ball moving through Celtic.
00:34:54Again they have to go back and you heard Sanchez squeeze get up.
00:34:57That squeeze means get in tight. Get up higher line. They were in hit back.
00:35:03Forrest. Missed it by Corwell. It's a clever pass in. Spread across and Kiyoko.
00:35:11O'Reilly's ball is met at the back post and Celtic have their second.
00:35:18Just over a half an hour played in South Bend. It's Celtic 2 and Chelsea 0.
00:35:28What patience from Celtic to draw Chelsea out of this shell that they were in. Not once but twice.
00:35:36And ultimately it's O'Reilly with the timeliness to get in line. Such class ball from Ralston.
00:35:43The pace on it's perfect. O'Reilly never even has to look because he hears the shout and understands
00:35:48if it all goes well in the build up inside the box. Kiyoko should be getting across the base of goal.
00:35:53He is. It's the simplest of tap ins but it's the most well worked up goals from Celtic.
00:35:59A fantastic team goal.
00:36:04And he scored the 3-1 just before halftime against Manchester City.
00:36:07Kiyoko he gets his second of this U.S. tour now and rewarded for his relentless energy.
00:36:14Constant runs. Chelsea looking to pull one back. Chukwuemeka in a foot race.
00:36:21And he's won a corner out of it.
00:36:23He was scrambling back.
00:36:32Chelsea looked dangerous with their first couple of corner kicks early in this
00:36:35opening 45. Less so with the set piece chances of late.
00:36:39There's some concern here for the Japanese international Maeda.
00:36:44Yeah there's a moment a moment about three or four minutes ago where Maeda was slow
00:36:48to get up. He was slow to get back and at this point in time if you're starting to feel
00:36:53anything eight days away from the opening match the Scottish Premiership against Kovarnik
00:36:58you're just going to call it good. So Luis Palma looks as though he's got his kit on.
00:37:07The game winning goal against Manchester City looks as though he's going to immediately
00:37:10come in and replace Maeda. That is a cause for concern for Celtic this close to the start of
00:37:15the season. Before the corner kick so the Honduras international Luis Palma checking in replacing
00:37:20Maeda. A leg for leg change of a wing. James calibrates.
00:37:29A strong header by Palma. It was wide of the target.
00:37:37You alluded to it earlier the service from Rhys James has been really good so far for the most
00:37:43part on these corner kicks and this time Fofana wins the foot race against Taylor.
00:37:47Doesn't miss by much.
00:37:57One back given away again by Celtic.
00:38:07James the captain.
00:38:11Dweke isolated nearside.
00:38:14Striven in. Contact made by Yoube.
00:38:18Off target once again on the header.
00:38:20Head down pitch side to Katie Witham.
00:38:22That second Celtic goal was essentially as Brendan Rogers was attempting to script it up over here on the sideline.
00:38:28During that hydration break he pulled his team to the side talked a little bit about what he felt was going well and where they could be cleaner.
00:38:34Specifically he talked about being quicker offensively and passing in combinations when they saw it was on.
00:38:40Also defensively Cameron Carter Vickers having a nice little conversation with Cashwell Schmeichel.
00:38:46Complimenting him on his direction and also throwing in a little brilliant save.
00:38:50Thanks for that mate.
00:38:54Preseason vibes are high that's for sure.
00:38:56Vickers won this one back. Palma with a chance to make an immediate impact.
00:39:00Substitute. Palma!
00:39:04Right to the hands of the waiting Sanchez.
00:39:07And that's maybe the difference of a player who's fresh off the bench.
00:39:10Not quite Matt Sharp.
00:39:13Gets in that 1v1 situation.
00:39:16Hasn't quite got a feel for the game yet to try to pick out the far post he's trying to curl it.
00:39:21With Hondurian.
00:39:22As I mentioned a moment ago.
00:39:24Game winning goal against Manchester City.
00:39:26Was the timeliness of his movement from the left side that really caused some issues for Manchester City.
00:39:34That's his x-factor. His IQ and understanding when to go.
00:39:38When to be a part of possession.
00:39:40For Palma.
00:39:42Trying to be a threat for Celtic on the near side today.
00:39:44Remember Palma scored the winner against City.
00:39:53Running his way through. Slaloming through.
00:39:55It's Scale who stops his approach.
00:39:58Right now for Chelsea.
00:39:59If it's Chukwuemeka or if it's Maduweke.
00:40:02Whichever player is going 1v1.
00:40:04They get inside the box.
00:40:06And it's without the decisive nature to go I'm going to beat my guy and get a shot off.
00:40:10It's too passive. It's too much I want to provide an assist for somebody else.
00:40:14There's a time to be selfless.
00:40:16And there's a time to be selfish.
00:40:17Right now it isn't the right balance for Chelsea.
00:40:19It needs to be better.
00:40:23To be announced on your by James.
00:40:28Modric now on the near side.
00:40:34Maduweke.
00:40:37Just runs out of real estate. He's closed down.
00:40:41It won't be another corner for the Blues.
00:40:44A convertible to corner kick Slade in this opening half.
00:40:50Maduweke's speed again.
00:40:51Just drops the shoulder and Forrest is always chasing.
00:40:53He does well to time the intervention.
00:40:57Head away. Head away.
00:41:02Palma with fresh legs.
00:41:03Chasing after him in the footrace.
00:41:05With Romelu Lavia.
00:41:09Good angle taken by the 20 year old Belgian.
00:41:12He's just on that cusp of breaking in to a Belgian squad that is going to be
00:41:17in the changing of the guard.
00:41:18A generational shift.
00:41:20That golden generation for Belgium.
00:41:22Seemingly never lived up to what their capabilities were.
00:41:26How good they were on paper.
00:41:27But Lavia now in this Chelsea side.
00:41:29A fight for minutes.
00:41:32As he is for his country as well.
00:41:34This could be a big breakout season for him.
00:41:37In his debut against Crystal Palace back in December.
00:41:40Injured in that game.
00:41:45Second chance to impress now for him in his early preseason for Chelsea.
00:41:52Here's Carter Vickers.
00:41:59Lovely triangles in the midfield by Celtic.
00:42:02The through ball threaded in but for Thiago.
00:42:04Sanchez was there.
00:42:06And slammed it off of Badia's shield.
00:42:13A little more space to operate now.
00:42:14Nearside from Adewake.
00:42:15He's picked out.
00:42:18Against Taylor.
00:42:20Squared back in.
00:42:21Chukwumeka.
00:42:23That was a difficult angle.
00:42:24And a strong right hand from Kasper Schmeichel.
00:42:27Keeps it out.
00:42:28It was always his post.
00:42:31Tuesday night against Manchester City.
00:42:32Kasper Schmeichel made two incredible saves against Erling Haaland.
00:42:36Both in that fashion where he stays up.
00:42:38And he doesn't go to ground early.
00:42:40So what that does.
00:42:41He stays big.
00:42:42And he puts his arm out wide to create this big wingspan.
00:42:45And a lot of times it's just so he can react from a position where he's already
00:42:49set out wide.
00:42:50And he can go from that middle height.
00:42:53Caves delivers.
00:42:55Pushed away by Scales.
00:43:03There's five left to play in this opening 45.
00:43:05Crosstop each time.
00:43:07Chelsea in search of their first goal of the match.
00:43:09Trying to halve the deficit.
00:43:13Opener from Matt O'Reilly after 19 minutes.
00:43:15Celtic doubled the lead.
00:43:17Diakiogu in the 33rd.
00:43:22Madueke.
00:43:36Dre, earlier you mentioned about Celtic and their dominance in the Premiership.
00:43:40The next step for this group being the evolution of them progressing on in Europe.
00:43:45And with the new format in Champions League.
00:43:48The aim for them is to finish in that 9 to 24 range to be able to advance on.
00:43:55And I think if they're going to keep possession like this.
00:43:58If they're going to be as threatening vertically in behind.
00:44:01If Diakiogu is going to find this form.
00:44:04They should have big ambitions in Europe this season.
00:44:08Celtic are a club historically who have won over 100 trophies.
00:44:11But yet, as of late, UEFA Champions League has been the one thing that they haven't been able to really garner any momentum.
00:44:20One win in the group stage last season.
00:44:23Yeah, it's just, it's not been good enough in Europe.
00:44:27But this group right here, if you're a Celtic fan, you should have more encouragement and more hope.
00:44:32Than any other season in recent memory with how they're playing tactically.
00:44:36It took apart Manchester City in 40 minutes.
00:44:38It's taken apart Chelsea as well.
00:44:40Modric sneaking in between the lines.
00:44:43Could hold the play from the youngster Guyot.
00:44:46Again, it's in Kunkel.
00:44:48Guyot running in behind.
00:44:50Well, he gets there ahead of Schmeichel.
00:44:52It's still in play.
00:44:54And smothered by the Celtic goalkeeper.
00:45:00Guyot hasn't been involved enough, but finally gets a run between Vickers and Scales.
00:45:05It's been tight from Celtic.
00:45:07They haven't given away much, but Guyot finally getting involved for the first time in the last 20, 25 minutes or so.
00:45:12Schmeichel's getting there ahead of Palma.
00:45:14For Fata.
00:45:16It was clipped from behind by the Honduran.
00:45:19And it's given us a throw.
00:45:24Let's see if there's contact here.
00:45:26There's a little bit more contact.
00:45:28And it's in play.
00:45:30It's in play.
00:45:32It's in play.
00:45:34There's a little bit, but you know what?
00:45:36Ismir Pekmik, our referee today, got that absolutely right.
00:45:38Fofana understood his touch was going to carry him over the touchline.
00:45:41So as he went to ground and gave the yell, he was hopeful that was going to sell the foul.
00:45:45And Ismir Pekmik wasn't buying it.
00:45:53Full of energy.
00:45:55Impressed in his debut.
00:45:57Relentless running in behind.
00:45:59Always making himself an option.
00:46:00He's involved early and late in this first half today against Celtic.
00:46:06Hasn't really had a sight of goal.
00:46:12In behind Sanchez.
00:46:14Comes out to meet it.
00:46:16Modric.
00:46:18Commits the foul.
00:46:20There's a name you haven't said enough for Chelsea.
00:46:23Kylo Mujic.
00:46:25Hardly been involved in the first half.
00:46:27To be fair, it is.
00:46:29To be fair, it is.
00:46:31First minutes of early preseason play for Chelsea.
00:46:34Having missed that Wrexton match.
00:46:37Still working his way to full fitness.
00:46:40But again, he showed up early to training camp.
00:46:42He understood the assignment.
00:46:46Prove yourself to the new boss.
00:46:52That's so good for Celtic to bring the press.
00:46:54In the tight spaces.
00:46:55Switches on to Palma.
00:46:57If he goes quick.
00:46:59Antantic.
00:47:01Anticipated contact.
00:47:04Forrest is out wide.
00:47:06Target's in the 18.
00:47:08Touch to control.
00:47:10O'Reilly.
00:47:12Forrest was offside.
00:47:16Far side in particular, Jamie.
00:47:18Absolutely.
00:47:20It's the timeliness of O'Reilly.
00:47:22His involvement in the play.
00:47:24Brandon Rogers has his group.
00:47:26Playing so confident on the ball.
00:47:28The passing is crisp.
00:47:30While Chelsea is throwing numbers forward.
00:47:32And reckless abandon.
00:47:34To try to press in their final third.
00:47:36Celtic just keep breaking the press.
00:47:38And when they do.
00:47:40They've invited Chelsea to come out of that condensed shell.
00:47:42Their space to turn.
00:47:44And they've attacked those wide areas.
00:47:46It has been about as good of a 45 minutes.
00:47:48As Brandon Rogers would have hoped for.
00:47:50From his side.
00:47:52And just 60 additional seconds.
00:47:54Added on as a minimum.
00:47:56This opening 45.
00:48:00And Celtic will be in no rush to get it.
00:48:02Back in play.
00:48:12Greg Taylor, the Scottish international.
00:48:14Did travel with Scotland.
00:48:16But did not play a single minute.
00:48:18In Germany at Euro 2024.
00:48:20Unlike McGregor and Ralston.
00:48:22In the final game of Scotland's campaign.
00:48:28Only seconds remain.
00:48:32Until halftime.
00:48:34This is Sanchez.
00:48:37Runs for him by the wicket.
00:48:39This time not picked out for fun.
00:48:41Skipping past the challenge of Palmer.
00:48:43A long way back.
00:48:45To help build up.
00:48:49Lavia.
00:48:50Hall will.
00:48:52Chelsea have to get the ball forward.
00:48:57So then the switch is played.
00:48:59About the wicket near side.
00:49:04Fofana.
00:49:07And a half in possession.
00:49:09Chelsea for the wicket.
00:49:13Kept it in.
00:49:15And that will do.
00:49:17It's halftime.
00:49:19Chelsea 0.
00:49:20Celtic 2.
00:49:22As the Hoops scores 4 against DC United.
00:49:244 against Manchester City.
00:49:26And they're halfway there.
00:49:28In the opening half against Chelsea.
00:49:30Celtic looking fine for.
00:49:32They have looked so sharp going forward.
00:49:34Attacking those wide areas.
00:49:36Matt O'Reilly.
00:49:38A goal and an assist.
00:49:40A phenomenal performance in the first half.
00:49:42So Matt O'Reilly with the opener after 19 minutes.
00:49:44Kyogo would double the lead in the 33rd.
00:49:46Celtic 2.
00:49:47Thank you Dre.
00:49:49Well yes Celtic continuing their fine pre-season form.
00:49:51With two goals in the first half.
00:49:53Against Chelsea.
00:49:55Chelsea looking for their first win.
00:49:57Of the pre-season campaign.
00:49:59Kay Murray.
00:50:00Ali Moreno.
00:50:02And Shaka Hislop here in the studio.
00:50:04We will be looking back on everything that we have just seen.
00:50:06In that first half of action.
00:50:08Stick around with us here.
00:50:10We'll look back on everything that's happened.
00:50:12And bring you highlights from the ready available.
00:50:14For you to watch.
00:50:16We are looking at Chelsea and Celtic right now.
00:50:18And Shaka you mentioned Robert Sanchez.
00:50:20A few good saves from his.
00:50:22Today we got the news obviously that Philip Jorgensen is coming in.
00:50:24From Villareal to Chelsea.
00:50:26When you hear as a goalkeeper that there is another goalkeeper coming in.
00:50:28This is a pre-season.
00:50:30What are you doing?
00:50:32What are you doing to try and impress your coach right now?
00:50:34Well as a goalkeeper all you can do is.
00:50:36Well certainly from Robert Sanchez perspective.
00:50:38As we have seen from him certainly in the first half.
00:50:40Continue that.
00:50:42Now the big question about Philip Jorgensen coming in.
00:50:43Is Mariska wanting a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet.
00:50:45Which Sanchez isn't.
00:50:47Sanchez is a decent shot stopper though.
00:50:49So from that perspective.
00:50:51You are kind of wanting to try to impress.
00:50:53But that's not really your game.
00:50:55So it's a difficult one for Sanchez.
00:50:57For Jorgensen though coming in.
00:50:59And again.
00:51:01Question marks as to exactly.
00:51:03What's needed here.
00:51:05From your goalkeeper.
00:51:07Is it somebody just to play the ball off in the back.
00:51:09Or do you go for.
00:51:11And traditionally I feel a goalkeeper's first job is to.
00:51:13Keep the ball out the back.
00:51:15How dare you.
00:51:17And so is this kind of.
00:51:19New ask shall we call it.
00:51:21I have to see how it goes.
00:51:23Because I'm so unsold on it.
00:51:25Yeah Shaka Hislop.
00:51:27Not a fan of the modern day goalkeeper.
00:51:29I'm a traditionalist.
00:51:31Let me just kick it up the other end.
00:51:33Thank you Shaka.
00:51:35Second half is coming up between Chelsea and Celtic.
00:51:37Let's see if we win.
00:51:38Get some goals from Chelsea here.
00:51:40Let's send it back out to.
00:51:42Drake Cordero.
00:51:44And Jamie Watson.
00:51:46Thank you Kate.
00:51:48Welcome back.
00:51:50Wholesale change is expected.
00:51:52Particularly on the Chelsea side.
00:51:54As you see the likes of Raheem Sterling.
00:51:56Tolson.
00:51:58I thought it'd be oil all warming up.
00:52:00In a.
00:52:02Bit of a mountain to climb for the second half.
00:52:04Two nil down against the Celtic side.
00:52:06Not just on the balance of the first half.
00:52:08It's a two season tour.
00:52:10Looked like a team ready to kick their season off.
00:52:12In just eight days time.
00:52:14Right.
00:52:16Well our colleagues could agree in the studio.
00:52:18Ali and Shaka.
00:52:20That Celtic looked fantastic.
00:52:22They couldn't agree on the likes of the new goalkeeper.
00:52:24And coming in and Sanchez.
00:52:26And how he's going to adjust to it.
00:52:28But I think we can all agree watching this match.
00:52:30Is that Celtic were far better going forward.
00:52:32And their ability to retain possession under pressure.
00:52:34And then break lines with the passes.
00:52:36That led to them having.
00:52:38A three to nine Chelsea.
00:52:40While they had their half chances through crosses.
00:52:42A full goal less expected.
00:52:44In that first half.
00:52:46I think Celtic look in tip top form.
00:52:48With these three changes for Chelsea.
00:52:50Look for them to try to get on the ball a little bit more.
00:52:52But be a bit more direct.
00:52:54Centrally less out wide.
00:52:56That could be a difference for Chelsea.
00:52:58In the second half.
00:53:00So Brendan Rogers and Celtic will keep things as they were.
00:53:02In terms of personnel.
00:53:04The three changes for Celtic.
00:53:06One per line.
00:53:08James Sterling will replace.
00:53:10Mikhailo Modric.
00:53:12And Leslie Ugochukwu.
00:53:14Fresh off of his first goal.
00:53:16As a blue.
00:53:18Will replace Carney Chukwumeka.
00:53:20In the eleven.
00:53:22To kick off this second half.
00:53:24Once again the goal scorers.
00:53:26Matt O'Reilly.
00:53:28After 19 minutes.
00:53:30Broke the deadlock.
00:53:32And Diogo with double the lead in the 33rd.
00:53:34Opening half in which.
00:53:36Chelsea had their chances in front of goal.
00:53:38But no breakthrough yet for the blues.
00:53:40Celtic kick off the second half.
00:53:422-0 to the good.
00:53:45It's cut out by Raheem Sterling.
00:53:47First touch.
00:53:49For the substitute.
00:53:51About leadership and experience.
00:53:53The role that he'll play once again.
00:53:55And get back to that.
00:53:57Best form he had under Manchester City.
00:53:59In Manchester City.
00:54:01Fabio Lavia.
00:54:03Pass intended for Chukwumeka.
00:54:05It's you who gets there.
00:54:07Carter Vickers tripped him up.
00:54:09And you.
00:54:11Is denied at the near post by Schmeichel.
00:54:13Denied off the woodwork.
00:54:15It's Raheem Sterling with the follow up.
00:54:17And two early chances for Chelsea.
00:54:19Once again goal begging.
00:54:21The start of the first half.
00:54:23Led to an opportunity for Chelsea.
00:54:25Much like that.
00:54:27The start of the second half leads to an opportunity.
00:54:29Where finally a central pass.
00:54:31It's Guillaume behind.
00:54:33And Sterling.
00:54:35Had everybody beaten.
00:54:37It's just going to curl enough inside the far post.
00:54:39And it's crisis averted.
00:54:41For Celtic.
00:54:43They struggled Tuesday night against Manchester City.
00:54:45Conceding two goals.
00:54:47First one in quick succession.
00:54:49But that was an opportunity.
00:54:51For Celtic to be better in the second half to start.
00:54:53And they were not.
00:54:55Inside the first 60 seconds.
00:54:57That'll be frustrating for Rodgers.
00:55:00Had an initial pressure from Chelsea early in the second half.
00:55:04Out number 10.
00:55:06One of the three changes.
00:55:08Made by Enzo Maresca.
00:55:10For the start of the second half.
00:55:18It's James.
00:55:22Jose who.
00:55:24Made his pre-season debut against Wrexham.
00:55:27Here's Nkunku.
00:55:30That's a clever ball.
00:55:33And it's a goal.
00:55:34And Palma.
00:55:36Sending it forward.
00:55:38He was looking for the run of.
00:55:40A run that never came.
00:55:46Levi Colwell.
00:55:50And Nkunku.
00:55:52It's stripped up.
00:55:54By Carter Vickers.
00:56:00Who were your first half stand-ups Jimmy?
00:56:02First and foremost.
00:56:04It was really his goal and an assist.
00:56:06His movement from the middle of the park.
00:56:08For Celtic.
00:56:10Devastating.
00:56:12For Chelsea.
00:56:14Led to both goals.
00:56:16And for Chelsea.
00:56:17I really like Madueke.
00:56:19His ability to go 1v1.
00:56:21We didn't see the end product.
00:56:23That Enzo Maresca.
00:56:25Or us would have hoped for.
00:56:27But nonetheless.
00:56:29Christopher Nkunku.
00:56:31He was a player we focused on.
00:56:33That final product.
00:56:35That final ball is what's been lacking for Chelsea.
00:56:37Raheem Sterling.
00:56:39Already has had more impact on this match than Mudroff did.
00:56:41Who he replaced at halftime.
00:56:43Look for Sterling to be a key component in the second half for this Chelsea side.
00:56:45The whistle blows.
00:56:47They're against Romelu Lavia.
00:56:50Just fouled.
00:56:52Rio Hatate.
00:56:58Parade of goals that has continued.
00:57:00Throughout this preseason for Celtic.
00:57:01Look sharp.
00:57:05McGregor.
00:57:10Scales.
00:57:18It's won back by Raheem Sterling.
00:57:20Fresh legs to substitute.
00:57:22Sterling squared and left it behind Nkunku.
00:57:24A follow up.
00:57:26And following through.
00:57:28It was Madueke.
00:57:30The reason this match is not 2-1 is Madueke cannot get his feet sorted.
00:57:34Immediately the pressure from Sterling wins it.
00:57:36But he waits for everybody to run beyond it.
00:57:38And it's the secondary phase of Madueke.
00:57:40That he's looking for.
00:57:42Does not get his feet sorted.
00:57:44Takes an extra little half step right before.
00:57:46But because he's trying to avoid his right foot.
00:57:48So much.
00:57:50And he tries to go with the preferred left foot.
00:57:52It's the wrong choice.
00:57:54That's why the opportunity goes begging.
00:57:55Restart it through.
00:57:57Levi Colwell.
00:58:11Sanchez.
00:58:16Celtic happy to just have a little bit of a break.
00:58:18It's been a long time.
00:58:20It's been a long time.
00:58:22It's been a long time.
00:58:24Celtic happy to just keep men behind the ball for the moment.
00:58:28Here's Guil.
00:58:36It's James who plays it out wide.
00:58:42A heavy touch.
00:58:45The club as well.
00:58:48Tolson just got let off massively there.
00:58:51Check 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
00:58:55Lack of chances for Chelsea.
00:58:57They've had 12 shots.
00:58:59They've actually outshot Celtic.
00:59:01Six of those on target.
00:59:05A couple of good saves for.
00:59:07Pass for Schmeichel to.
00:59:09Keep the clean sheet for now.
00:59:11You start to look at the analytics.
00:59:13And Chelsea has more touches in the opposition box.
00:59:16Starting to get forward.
00:59:18They're getting opportunities.
00:59:19It's just been lacking the final ball.
00:59:21That's what's missing.
00:59:23For this Chelsea side going forward in the final third.
00:59:25Schmeichel.
00:59:27Getting it back from the captain, James.
00:59:31Bochukwu.
00:59:34Strong in his hold of play.
00:59:37Facing a double team.
00:59:44Chelsea applying the pressure and Celtic trying to pass their way through it.
00:59:47It'll be a throw for the Blues.
00:59:49Those touches in the opposition box you mentioned a moment ago.
00:59:5227 for Chelsea, 16 for Celtic.
00:59:54The final third entries.
00:59:56This will be encouraging for Enzo Madeska.
00:59:5830 for Chelsea as opposed to 17 for Celtic.
01:00:00Nearly 2 to 1.
01:00:02Yet Celtic have been more dangerous.
01:00:04They have a higher expected goal total.
01:00:06They've just been better with the quality of the final ball.
01:00:08That needs to get better for Chelsea.
01:00:15It's Kiyoko.
01:00:17Physical with him and that led to the turnover.
01:00:19Now Sterling in the area.
01:00:21Against a double team.
01:00:23Sterling trying to force the issue.
01:00:25Schmeichel keeps it out.
01:00:27Just bounces harmlessly wide in the end.
01:00:30Another solid save.
01:00:32By Kasper Schmeichel to keep it out from the youngster.
01:00:36Mark Guyoux.
01:00:38As this falls to Guyoux.
01:00:40It just catches him in an in-between place.
01:00:42Just over his thigh where he can't quite guide it on target.
01:00:44Coming up towards his hip.
01:00:46It's because the ball is coming upward trajectory.
01:00:48Towards him.
01:00:50That he's not able to dictate where he's just trying to
01:00:52deflect it in.
01:00:54And right now.
01:00:56Sums up the first 52 and a half minutes for Chelsea in the
01:00:58final third.
01:01:00Just that last final touch is just letting him down.
01:01:02Guyoux should have been able to apply the finish though
01:01:04from that distance.
01:01:06He made headlines.
01:01:08In his Barcelona debut scoring 23 seconds after coming on.
01:01:14Against Athletic Lube last October.
01:01:15He was just 17 years old.
01:01:17And scored in the Champions League.
01:01:19Getting his first European goal against Royal Antwerp
01:01:21in the group stage.
01:01:29Badia Schiele.
01:01:33A reminder of who's out there for Chelsea now.
01:01:35It's Tosin, Badia Schiele and Colwell.
01:01:37Three defenders with Luis James joining them.
01:01:39Lavia also in the midfield.
01:01:41Ugo Chukwu.
01:01:43And Sterling.
01:01:45Madueke and Kunku.
01:01:47And Guyoux.
01:01:49And now because Sanchez is so good with his speed on the
01:01:51ball.
01:01:53Luis James can tuck into the middle.
01:01:55Sanchez can become that right center back.
01:01:57Tosin goes out to the right back.
01:01:59There's still four in the back.
01:02:01But the right center back is the goalkeeper.
01:02:03And so you have an extra field player in a sense.
01:02:05To go and get that numbers overload.
01:02:07That's what Maresca wants to do with the versatile Luis
01:02:09James.
01:02:11The more time James spends in the middle of the field.
01:02:13The more time he spends in the middle of the park.
01:02:15That is a good indication that Chelsea is keeping
01:02:17possession.
01:02:19Didn't see nearly enough of that in the first half.
01:02:21And that was down quite frankly to Celtic's ability to
01:02:23have ball retention.
01:02:25And connect their passes under pressure.
01:02:29Badia Schiele.
01:02:35Took him until November of last season to return from
01:02:37that long term hamstring injury that ended his
01:02:392022-23 campaign.
01:02:41Badia Schiele.
01:02:43Still just 23 years old.
01:02:45He's a dominant presence in the air.
01:02:47I think we're in the back line today.
01:02:49Madueke.
01:02:51Had the burst of speed to get there.
01:02:53And in fact it's led to another Chelsea corner.
01:02:55How about that preseason effort from Noni Madueke?
01:02:57Madueke might be one of only two or three people
01:02:59in this building that could have gotten to this ball
01:03:01before it went over the end line.
01:03:03Incredible burst.
01:03:05And then just the willingness to come back.
01:03:07And try to put some pressure.
01:03:09And ultimately.
01:03:10Taylor ends up panicking a bit.
01:03:12And putting it out for a corner.
01:03:14He's going to put it out.
01:03:16He's got to put it out for a throw in there.
01:03:18This is a set piece opportunity they've been dangerous on
01:03:20all afternoon.
01:03:22Swinger toward the spot.
01:03:24Udai Colwell sending it back in and over.
01:03:26Trying Nkunku.
01:03:29This opportunity all stems from Madueke's ability
01:03:31to go and win this set piece.
01:03:33And now Nkunku is going to get inventive.
01:03:35But the ball's not sitting high enough.
01:03:37He had his decision made.
01:03:39Ideally that would have been another foot or two
01:03:41higher in the air to be able to try to pull off
01:03:43the overhead kick.
01:03:45Here's Carter Vickers.
01:03:47I suspect maybe his final few touches.
01:03:49Because they do have a defender getting ready.
01:03:51Steven Welsh.
01:03:53To check into the matches.
01:03:55Celtics' second substitution.
01:03:57He was an injury sub in the opening half.
01:03:59He saw Palma step in for Maeda.
01:04:01And this will allow for Brendan Rogers
01:04:03to make his second alteration.
01:04:06And as a 24-year-old.
01:04:07Center back Steven Welsh.
01:04:09Will enter the contest.
01:04:11And it is for the American Carter Vickers.
01:04:13Whose first preseason minutes.
01:04:15And 10 minutes into the second half.
01:04:17Good showing.
01:04:19For the American center back Cameron Carter Vickers.
01:04:21Palm in possession.
01:04:23You can see the rapport starting to build.
01:04:25With scales.
01:04:27And with Kasper Schmeichel.
01:04:29A combination with Ralston.
01:04:31Gave away next to nothing.
01:04:33On the right side.
01:04:35Right back and the right center back.
01:04:37Ralston for Cameron Carter Vickers.
01:04:39In his 56 minutes.
01:04:41Celtic in the 56th minute.
01:04:43Now his number 20.
01:04:45Cameron Carter Vickers.
01:04:47Down in number 57.
01:04:49Steven Welsh.
01:04:56Navia.
01:05:01It's Madhu Ek here.
01:05:03Out wide again.
01:05:05He's been a constant threat.
01:05:07No Navia.
01:05:09James taking up a spot in the center.
01:05:11Nadia Sheehan.
01:05:13Sterling on the near side.
01:05:16Cole.
01:05:21Doreke doing what he can to keep that ball in play.
01:05:23And the flag comes up.
01:05:32Can he handle it?
01:05:34He does.
01:05:36Off the chest.
01:05:38Off hang.
01:05:40Great look at it from our crew to slow it down.
01:05:42Well done from our assistant referee on the far side.
01:05:44Artiman.
01:05:46Rustamayan.
01:05:48To see that in real time.
01:05:50We needed it slowed down a bit up here in the booth.
01:05:52But never mind him right there.
01:05:54Assistant referee on the far side picking that up as quick as possible.
01:05:58The second change for Celtic being Welsh.
01:06:00In for Carter Vickers.
01:06:02Still a position that Brendan Rodgers and Celtic
01:06:04may want to strengthen in terms of depth.
01:06:06When they require selling.
01:06:13Position short circuits.
01:06:15There you go.
01:06:17You hit the buzzword with the Celtic fans.
01:06:19Transfers incoming and outgoing.
01:06:21There's always the cry for more.
01:06:23Fans will certainly feel maybe they're one or two pieces away
01:06:25from really being a top team in Europe.
01:06:27And I imagine Brendan Rodgers as well will feel that way.
01:06:29But unless Celtic have a very astute way they go about their
01:06:32business.
01:06:34Almost the exact opposite end of the spectrum is Chelsea.
01:06:36You look at the squad size for Chelsea.
01:06:3843 first team players.
01:06:40On for Celtic.
01:06:42It's not quite as expansive.
01:06:44They're a bit more about quality over quantity.
01:06:46So it's targeted when they spend.
01:06:48They targeted the goalkeeper.
01:06:50When they bring in Casher Schmeichel.
01:06:52And also just prior to that.
01:06:54Lujami Sinasalo.
01:06:56Now I think they could still use a little bit more depth
01:06:58the front.
01:07:00If anything happens to Kiyoko who's joint top scorer.
01:07:02Right now it looks as though the backup.
01:07:04Might be the likes of Mikey Johnson up top.
01:07:06And.
01:07:08Spending for about 8, 9 season now for Celtic.
01:07:10I just don't know if that's enough depth up top.
01:07:12For the Celtic side to make a real deep run in Europe.
01:07:14In Europe.
01:07:27Pressing marking inside.
01:07:29Kiyoko was making the run.
01:07:30For it has to complete that pass.
01:07:32You've got to just play it into the feet of Kiyoko.
01:07:36Those are the moments.
01:07:38Right.
01:07:40That was O'Reilly.
01:07:42You've got to make sure that in that pass.
01:07:44You just get it into Kiyoko.
01:07:46And let him dictate where that first touch goes.
01:07:48His body as you.
01:07:50Former Monaco man.
01:07:53Lavia dropping in.
01:07:55To join the defenders.
01:07:57For more on Chelsea.
01:07:59And into Mariska's second game.
01:08:01In this preseason.
01:08:03Let's get down to Katie with a pitch side.
01:08:05Katie.
01:08:07Lots of compliments coming from the Chelsea manager.
01:08:09Well done.
01:08:11Most recently he seems happy with the possession.
01:08:13And the decision making of his teams.
01:08:15At times offering small positional tweaks.
01:08:17To his midfielders.
01:08:19But just recently reminding them that when they decide.
01:08:21To drop the ball back.
01:08:23And switch fields.
01:08:25They need to do it quicker.
01:08:27A much quicker tempo.
01:08:29Made off with.
01:08:31Oscar Schmeichel.
01:08:33Offered into the middle.
01:08:35Sanchez coming a long way off his line.
01:08:37He collects.
01:08:39Smart move.
01:08:41That was confidence.
01:08:43And skill from the goalkeeper to pull that off.
01:08:45I like that point that Katie just made.
01:08:47That she just picked up from Mariska on the sideline.
01:08:49For Chelsea.
01:08:51Head coach wants them to play quicker.
01:08:53And right now.
01:08:54Raheem Sterling.
01:08:56Is seemingly getting the better of Ralston.
01:08:57But if they don't switch it fast enough.
01:08:59And do it quickly.
01:09:01Celtic have such discipline.
01:09:03Defensively when they recover.
01:09:05And whatever advantage Chelsea has.
01:09:07In transitional moments.
01:09:09Is being stifled when they take an extra touch in midfield.
01:09:11Before switching diagonally.
01:09:13That's out there on the receiving end of the foul.
01:09:15And now there's possession here.
01:09:19Welsh.
01:09:21Captain McGregor.
01:09:23Had admired the commitment to the long sleeves.
01:09:25In 80 degree weather.
01:09:27McGregor's got a brand.
01:09:29He's been playing since 2009 here.
01:09:31He's synonymous with the face of Celtic.
01:09:33He's been a loyal servant to this club.
01:09:35And.
01:09:37He was one of the most popular figures.
01:09:39With a lot of fans lining up.
01:09:41Just to get an autograph.
01:09:43From the captain McGregor.
01:09:45Just a nine Scottish Premier League title to his name.
01:09:47Here's Lupalma.
01:09:49From the edge of the area looking for an opening.
01:09:51Kiyoko.
01:09:53Hops into the back post.
01:09:55Clipped in.
01:09:57And he's denied point blank.
01:09:59His chances would still be on for Celtic.
01:10:05Welsh.
01:10:07McGregor.
01:10:09It was a clever idea.
01:10:11And Wilson.
01:10:13Doesn't read the intention.
01:10:15Here's another look at the cross.
01:10:17Made by O'Reilly.
01:10:19One of the first foray forwards.
01:10:21And.
01:10:22On his.
01:10:24Good job of getting across the box.
01:10:26His.
01:10:28First time we've seen Celtic be able to get forward.
01:10:30It's not for lack of effort.
01:10:32It's just because Chelsea have been that much better.
01:10:34Inside the first 17 minutes of the second half.
01:10:36This would be more like it for.
01:10:38Enzo Madeska.
01:10:40Start to look at this group.
01:10:42And I start to think that.
01:10:44With this long preseason against very difficult opponents.
01:10:46It's like a staircase you're trying to establish.
01:10:48Each step of the way going higher and higher.
01:10:50It's a wonderful build up now.
01:10:52And Raheem Sterling's out in front.
01:10:53Trying to get there.
01:10:55If I could stay down.
01:10:58I'd wick it.
01:11:02Chelsea trying to half the deficit.
01:11:12Against Sterling.
01:11:14It's this rapid pace from Raheem Sterling that we've seen.
01:11:16All throughout.
01:11:18His esteemed career.
01:11:20The 29 year old England international.
01:11:22When he gets into open space.
01:11:24It's devastatingly quick.
01:11:26Chelsea.
01:11:28Whenever they go to the near side with Sterling.
01:11:30Have had more success in the second half.
01:11:32Than at any other point throughout this entire 63 minutes.
01:11:37He's out swinger.
01:11:40It was close.
01:11:42It was the intended target.
01:11:47It's a good adjustment from Ralston.
01:11:49This is where the service has been going from Reece James.
01:11:50So to understand.
01:11:52To get in front of your man.
01:11:54To get into that position where James has put it in.
01:11:56Time to time again.
01:11:58That's smart.
01:12:00Defending high IQ from Ralston.
01:12:04Nadia Sheedy.
01:12:07Position is recycled.
01:12:09Back to the defense.
01:12:11Sterling laid off Cole.
01:12:13And Kunku.
01:12:20To come to blues once more.
01:12:22Out wide.
01:12:24Putting inside to his preferred left foot.
01:12:26Squared across.
01:12:28And Kunku.
01:12:30Holds it up.
01:12:32In a crowd of.
01:12:34Whose shirts.
01:12:36Sterling.
01:12:40And.
01:12:42Ralston's clearance.
01:12:44It's got to go by about.
01:12:46It's got to go by about.
01:12:48A couple of Celtic subs.
01:12:50Waiting for their chance to make an introduction.
01:12:52Some defending to do still is that ball.
01:12:54Trickles straight toward.
01:12:56Asper Schmeichel.
01:12:59And.
01:13:01It's.
01:13:03It's.
01:13:05It's.
01:13:07It's.
01:13:09It's.
01:13:11It's.
01:13:13It's.
01:13:15It's.
01:13:16It's.
01:13:18It's.
01:13:20It's.
01:13:22Well.
01:13:23And.
01:13:26It's.
01:13:30Good.
01:13:33Time did well.
01:13:35And.
01:13:37Long way off his line.
01:13:39You put out the fire.
01:13:41A.
01:13:43G.
01:13:44He's a young Catalan striker.
01:13:47Duvai-Colewell spotted the run of you.
01:13:53He's a young Catalan striker.
01:13:56Sterling.
01:13:57Far post.
01:14:00Sterling into the area.
01:14:02And Welch heads away the danger,
01:14:05and this will allow William Rogers to make his changes.
01:14:08We'll see the introduction of Matt Anderson
01:14:11and Yong Joon Yang.
01:14:13Sanchez has been adventurous from his goalkeeping position.
01:14:18My goodness.
01:14:20It was effective.
01:14:22I don't know if it was pretty.
01:14:24Nonetheless, he's provided that extra support.
01:14:28This is an old-school sweeper, if I want to date myself,
01:14:31to my early playing days.
01:14:35Nonetheless, it's provided defensive cover for the two center backs,
01:14:38and it's given James the ability to come and push forward
01:14:41with Sanchez's quality on the ball.
01:14:46So double substitutions for both sides.
01:14:48Celtic will see the 20-year-old Matt Anderson
01:14:50replace Greg Taylor at left back,
01:14:52while Yang takes over from Hatate in the midfield.
01:14:55For Chelsea, it's Andre Santos, the 20-year-old Brazilian,
01:14:58stepping in in place of Romulo Lavia, or Malo Gusto,
01:15:02who will take over from the captain, Rhys James.
01:15:12Hey!
01:15:15Coming out is number three, Greg Taylor,
01:15:18going in number 21, Matthew Anderson.
01:15:21Also coming out are number 49, James Torres,
01:15:24coming in from number 13, Yong Joon Yang.
01:15:27Mudwicki again running in behind.
01:15:29He's timed it well.
01:15:31Can he get something out of it?
01:15:34Full of energy, and he went for goal.
01:15:36Might have slipped as he delivered.
01:15:42This is a quick introduction for Matthew Anderson
01:15:45to try to go against Mudwicki,
01:15:46but he does cut off the left foot.
01:15:49Doesn't provide the angle to get a shot off for Mudwicki,
01:15:54so now he's got to go to the right
01:15:56where the angle's against him.
01:15:57He's falling back, so that's a win for Anderson
01:15:59fresh off the bench against one of the fastest players
01:16:01on the park.
01:16:03Gonna do wonders for his confidence,
01:16:05the 20-year-old for Celtic.
01:16:08First touch is for Andre Santos.
01:16:16Former Bosco da Gama midfielder in Brazil.
01:16:20Has made his senior Brazil national team debut
01:16:23as 18 years old.
01:16:25And he did that.
01:16:31By Corwell driving forward.
01:16:38Strong from Diou to win it back.
01:16:43Mudwicki once more against Anderson.
01:16:47And maybe showing some signs that he's slowing down
01:16:49through the tired legs.
01:16:52He's running himself ragged, Mudwicki.
01:16:54Once again, Matthew Anderson doing everything he needs to.
01:16:58Diou strong to win it.
01:17:00Now it's down to the 1v1 with Mudwicki,
01:17:02and Anderson does ever so well.
01:17:05To stifle that transitional moment that Diou started.
01:17:13For the near post this time.
01:17:16Hopefully dealt with by McGregor.
01:17:19You can hear that communication from the 37-year-old
01:17:21Casper Schmeichel.
01:17:23Scalesy, and Scales nice and strong.
01:17:25Just those little bits of encouragement.
01:17:28The 37-year-old to be able to come in quickly.
01:17:31Back-to-back appearances out there.
01:17:33Making his debut on Tuesday night against Manchester City.
01:17:35Casper Schmeichel already showing his leadership
01:17:38with his shot-stopping ability.
01:17:40His ability to keep the ball with his feet,
01:17:42but also with his communications to his center-backs.
01:17:45I doubt he has stayed in.
01:17:47In fact, he's on the ball now.
01:17:49As Diou streaks into the 18.
01:17:56That's four is almost replaced.
01:18:04McGregor.
01:18:07Some appeals for an offside.
01:18:08Nothing is given.
01:18:10Malagusto trying to clear it away.
01:18:13On a throw.
01:18:16He hasn't.
01:18:17It's Celtic ball.
01:18:33Here's Walsh.
01:18:36And getting an early start was Luis Palma,
01:18:39who was flagged for offside.
01:18:46Hasn't made the impact that he would like, Palma,
01:18:48after coming on for Maeda.
01:18:50Did an injury substitution in the first half.
01:18:57That looks remarkably close.
01:18:59In fact, even Cole on this near side
01:19:01might be keeping him on.
01:19:04That might have been one from the previous play
01:19:07that the benefit of the doubt was given to Celtic.
01:19:09This time it didn't go their way.
01:19:11Santos.
01:19:12Madueke.
01:19:14Sprinting into action once more.
01:19:15Aguiu waiting at the center.
01:19:16Deliver for Aguiu and overhead.
01:19:24Hasn't really had the service, has he?
01:19:26As we head into the second hydration break of the match.
01:19:31With all the energy and effort of Marc Aguiu,
01:19:32the service hasn't quite been there for the youngster.
01:19:35Oh, and that's not necessarily what he's looking for
01:19:37with the combination against scales.
01:19:39It was Cameron Carter Vickers earlier,
01:19:41then the substitute Steven Walsh.
01:19:43Aguiu doesn't want to get on the end of the crosses.
01:19:44He wants to be a part of the buildup.
01:19:46But for Celtic, their buildup has been nothing short
01:19:48of spectacular going forward in the first half.
01:19:51We haven't seen it as much in the second half.
01:19:53But the goals that Celtic scored in the first half,
01:19:56that's given them this 2-0 lead,
01:19:59were goals that were formed with patience.
01:20:02Brendan Rodgers has given this group a lot of confidence.
01:20:05Their ability to draw Chelsea out and then attack
01:20:08is how they get this goal.
01:20:09This started from a corner.
01:20:12Instead of just lumping it in, Celtic decides to go short.
01:20:15Nobody closes down Matt O'Reilly.
01:20:16A wonderful first touch to open up his body.
01:20:18And then just a smart finish to the far post makes it 1-0.
01:20:22I mean, not so much old as much as his backer
01:20:24comparing the team with goalscoring.
01:20:26Here's the patient buildup with O'Reilly again.
01:20:28That run from the three in the middle
01:20:30that he started at tactically.
01:20:32He runs beyond the back line, squares it across.
01:20:34Kiyoko, the other 19-goal scorer last season, taps it in.
01:20:38My goodness, eight days out from the start
01:20:40of the Scottish Premiership.
01:20:41This Celtic side have looked nothing short
01:20:43of phenomenal this afternoon.
01:20:45They are feeling themselves.
01:20:47You look at the results against top opposition.
01:20:52So Kasper Schmeichel will exit.
01:20:56He'll be replaced by the former Villa man,
01:21:00Wiliamie Sinisalo.
01:21:05Exeter's player of the season during a loan spell last season.
01:21:08We played 45 games for them.
01:21:12He actually featured in the Premier League for Aston Villa.
01:21:14He was an unused sub whenever getting in.
01:21:20Sinisalo likes Schmeichel.
01:21:21Very good with his feet.
01:21:24So he'll look to continue to try to keep possession as well.
01:21:27Kasper Schmeichel, though, 45 minutes against Manchester City
01:21:30on Tuesday night.
01:21:31Two phenomenal saves against Erling Haaland.
01:21:33Very unfortunate to concede a goal in a real fluke fashion.
01:21:37A lot of changes coming now as Johnston, Lagerbielka,
01:21:41final few minutes of preseason play for Celtic
01:21:44before the games start to count.
01:21:47Donovan also will be checking in, Colby Donovan.
01:21:5417-year-old defender, Colby Donovan.
01:21:56Agustin Lagerbielka at 24.
01:21:58He's one of the players expected to be in that rotation
01:22:00at center back.
01:22:02From what we've seen in the preseason in terms of minutes
01:22:04played and starting lineups,
01:22:06Walsh and Scales appear to be for match day one.
01:22:10We'll send it back to you, Colby.
01:22:11Thank you.
01:22:12Thank you.
01:22:13Thank you.
01:22:14Thank you.
01:22:15Thank you.
01:22:16Thank you.
01:22:17Thank you.
01:22:18Thank you.
01:22:19Thank you.
01:22:20Thank you.
01:22:21Thank you.
01:22:23We'll send it back, Tandem.
01:22:25So Lagerbielka replacing Liam Scales.
01:22:42Here's Badia and Shields.
01:22:52Here you go, come on up, come on up.
01:22:54Sterling, surrounded by three Celtic players.
01:23:00Here's Liger-Bjelken.
01:23:03Fresh into the game,
01:23:04with her substitute center back Welsh.
01:23:12Al Augusto,
01:23:14goes down quickly.
01:23:14Here's Madueke.
01:23:18It's aggressive marking,
01:23:20maybe too aggressive from Matt Anderson.
01:23:23It's on Celtic's way.
01:23:26Quarter of an hour left to play,
01:23:28remains Celtic to Chelsea nil.
01:23:41Worth highlighting, it's been tremendous effort
01:23:43from Rony Madueke,
01:23:44even if the production maybe hasn't been there yet.
01:23:47Now look, at this stage of the preseason,
01:23:49we alluded to the staircase a moment ago,
01:23:51and you want to continue to take steps up the staircase.
01:23:54Some days you're going to take two, three steps forward,
01:23:56get closer to that goal of what the new identity is
01:23:59for Enzo Maresca.
01:24:00Some days you're going to take a step backwards.
01:24:01I think the buildup play has given you some hope,
01:24:05but the final product is then where they haven't taken
01:24:07that step forward today.
01:24:09But yeah, it's a dangerous pass.
01:24:10It's giving away a chance for Celtic to get their third!
01:24:13And they have done.
01:24:15Now Luis Palma makes his mark.
01:24:18The Honduran on the score sheet.
01:24:21And it's Celtic three, Chelsea nil.
01:24:31The pressure from Celtic is just too much
01:24:34for Chelsea to handle.
01:24:36Chelsea trying to keep possession.
01:24:38There's four players for Celtic
01:24:41that are converging at the same time.
01:24:43As Palma wins this, he's a left-footed player,
01:24:46so when he wins it, he's going to sell the strike
01:24:48after reading the pass.
01:24:51And he gets the defender, Tosin, to bite!
01:24:54And then he's got the calmness to put it beyond Sanchez,
01:24:58through the legs.
01:25:00That is what Brendan Rodgers means
01:25:03when he says defensive intensity.
01:25:06Numbers forward this late on in the game.
01:25:09And the substitute who scored against Manchester City
01:25:12on Tuesday night, approved to be the winner.
01:25:15Is Celtic a three-nil lead against Chelsea
01:25:18here this afternoon?
01:25:19Dancing his way into Celtic hearts here,
01:25:21enjoying themselves, the Celtic fans.
01:25:24Palma had the assist to O'Reilly against DC United
01:25:27on the opener.
01:25:27As you mentioned, a game-winner against Manchester City,
01:25:30and now back to back goals as he adds a third.
01:25:33Oh, look, that's going to look very, against Chelsea,
01:25:35pretty for Celtic to make it 3-0,
01:25:37but leading into that, the second half,
01:25:38Celtic had only had an expected goal total of .02,
01:25:41so they really had not been creating much,
01:25:45but you know what, when you're having a half
01:25:46in which you're not able to create,
01:25:48the one thing the other team cannot stop you doing
01:25:50is running, and Celtic had four players
01:25:52running at the same time.
01:25:54So the lead in Celtic in search of a fourth,
01:25:55and they do it again.
01:25:57It's cleared away by Tolson.
01:26:00Mikey Johnston, the player who took that ball in stride.
01:26:06And O'Reilly, making a whistle for the foul.
01:26:10Ladies and gentlemen, substitutions for Celtic
01:26:12against the 70th with a minute in the playoff.
01:26:14In conclusion, contact as he delivers the pass.
01:26:23Again, by the way, okay?
01:26:26Tomma, it's Mikey Johnston who's in behind,
01:26:29timed well, one-v-one against the goalkeeper.
01:26:31Is it a fourth?
01:26:32It is!
01:26:33They've done it again!
01:26:36Back to back to back games with four on the score sheet.
01:26:43Celtic with an exclamation mark of a pre-season,
01:26:49fired up for the start of the campaign.
01:26:53Again, another pass that breaks the line for Chelsea.
01:26:57Mikey Johnston, this time just riding the shoulder
01:27:00of Tolson who has no idea he's there.
01:27:03No communication between the center backs for Chelsea.
01:27:06Johnston slows himself down.
01:27:08His biggest criticisms is his inability
01:27:11to consistently score.
01:27:13He's got the goal against DC.
01:27:17The prior match against City, he came on and he was lively.
01:27:21Now he gets a goal again against Chelsea.
01:27:23It's starting to come together for the backup to Kiyoko.
01:27:2620 goals now in the last four games for Celtic.
01:27:30They are simply on fire.
01:27:36So, Renato Vega makes his introduction,
01:27:39replacing Levi Corwell.
01:27:43Lucas Bergstrom, the Finnish goalkeeper,
01:27:45will replace Roger Sanchez in goal.
01:28:04It's a goal that'll do a lot of good
01:28:06for his confidence, Mikey Johnston.
01:28:09Immediately called into action is Lucas Bergstrom.
01:28:14Moal has run it back.
01:28:16Grabbing his pressure from Celtic in the final moments.
01:28:20Here's for a hand ball.
01:28:22Hopefully he had a good view of it.
01:28:23It's not nothing wrong.
01:28:26This crowd has just gotten louder and louder
01:28:28with each Celtic goal.
01:28:32It's as if the energy that the players are expending
01:28:36on the field are now starting to exude
01:28:38to the Celtic fans inside of Notre Dame Stadium.
01:28:41It is an electric atmosphere.
01:28:44If you're a fan of the Hoops,
01:28:45it's constant shouts of hail, hail,
01:28:47and constant cheers from the goal to our right.
01:28:56Sterling.
01:28:59Chelsea just looking for a consolation goal at this point.
01:29:01And it's Raheem Sterling who is whistled for the foul.
01:29:11Look at the difference, though,
01:29:12but when Celtic win it with four players around,
01:29:15they go and get the goal through Palma
01:29:16because they're quick.
01:29:17Chelsea are too stagnant.
01:29:19Here's Johnston.
01:29:21Four players in attack for Celtic.
01:29:23Left a little short.
01:29:24It was Vega who dealt with the danger.
01:29:27Malagusto.
01:29:28Mbueke has been replaced.
01:29:30It's Angelo, a 19-year-old Brazilian winger
01:29:34who stepped in in his time.
01:29:36Johnston.
01:29:40Welsh from a long way out.
01:29:42Stealth away by Bergstrom.
01:29:58There's Holmes' effort.
01:30:06Ladies and gentlemen, substitutions for Chelsea
01:30:10in the 79th minute.
01:30:11Coming out, number six, Levi Toro,
01:30:13going again, number 40, Renato Vega.
01:30:16It's Misalo.
01:30:17Coming out, number 11,
01:30:18Welsh under pressure and he's giving it away.
01:30:20Raheem Sterling was there.
01:30:21Coming in at number 41, Angelo Cabrera.
01:30:24And now in, number 11,
01:30:27moving it, Chelsea throw.
01:30:32We're getting to the point now
01:30:33where wholesale changes are happening for Celtic.
01:30:35They've subbed out every starter from this match
01:30:38and I think Brendan Rodgers will be absolutely thrilled
01:30:41with this side.
01:30:42Remember, they came into this match
01:30:43without Alistair Johnston, who was getting some rest.
01:30:46Nicholas Kuhn, who was the man of the match
01:30:48against Manchester City.
01:30:48He also was out of the game day roster as well.
01:30:51This group looks strong and they look like
01:30:53they're just getting better and better
01:30:54at the start of the season next weekend.
01:30:55As in Kuhn, who now is taking on the world
01:30:59and enjoying the referee's whistle.
01:31:02Freaking Chelsea.
01:31:03It's preventive as much as anything,
01:31:05this late stage of the final preseason game.
01:31:09Trying to keep everyone as healthy as possible
01:31:10for the season opener in eight days time.
01:31:12Yeah, the only concern was Dyson Maeda,
01:31:14who went off in the first half injured.
01:31:16Palma, who came in, goal scorer of the third goal.
01:31:22So Tyreek George, the 18 year old.
01:31:26Checks in, and he replaces Mark Yu.
01:31:32Your thoughts on the Spanish teenager,
01:31:35what you've seen from him in this early stage of preseason?
01:31:37Yeah, only moments where he was impactful
01:31:40or had any real say-so in the match.
01:31:42If Chelsea are gonna push their play out wide
01:31:45and look to get service from wide areas,
01:31:48then they need a bigger figure up top.
01:31:50Somebody that will go in battle to win headers.
01:31:53Because as it got to the wide areas,
01:31:55it was the wide players,
01:31:56and whether that was Lujic in the first half,
01:31:58Sterling in the second, or Madueke,
01:32:01they seemingly just cut in
01:32:02and they never really looked to cross the ball in.
01:32:05They're just trying to cut in and get a shot
01:32:07or maybe slip a ball on the ground.
01:32:08That's because Yu is just not that big physical presence
01:32:10to go and win headers.
01:32:12I don't know if it's a square peg
01:32:13in a round hole with Yu up top, leading that line.
01:32:16Just doesn't seem like it's gonna be convincing.
01:32:19Shukunbu standing over the ball.
01:32:21Mpamua made that difficult for Chelsea.
01:32:27That's a little bit of territory for Tulsi.
01:32:29That is such a wasted opportunity for Chelsea.
01:32:31And now they're invited all the way back to Bergstrom now
01:32:33because of the fact they misplayed the first set piece.
01:32:37And it's just hectic from there on out.
01:32:47Once again, Celtic looking sharp.
01:32:49Once again, Celtic looking sharper, fitter,
01:32:52quicker than the opposition.
01:32:56There you go, there to intercept.
01:32:59Yeah, make no mistake about it.
01:33:00This is still Chelsea building into their fitness
01:33:03and Celtic are trying to ramp up now
01:33:07and get to that point where they're ready
01:33:08to go into league play
01:33:10where you're playing for something next weekend.
01:33:13Chelsea will have already had another midweek match
01:33:16against the Medica.
01:33:17They'll be taking on Manchester City
01:33:19at Ohio State University next Saturday
01:33:21while Celtic the following day will take on Kilmarnock.
01:33:25So the start of their Scottish Premier League title defense.
01:33:28So you can see that really does play a part
01:33:30and you can't be naive to say that it doesn't,
01:33:32but Chelsea have not caused any real threat
01:33:36to Celtic this afternoon.
01:33:37It's a pre-season tour for Chelsea
01:33:40that includes the Scottish champions, Celtic,
01:33:44the English champions, Manchester City.
01:33:46Go on.
01:33:47The Spanish and European champions, Real Madrid.
01:33:49Okay.
01:33:50And then the Italian champions, Inter.
01:33:53And one of the fientes of Liga MX,
01:33:55Club America as well.
01:34:03Yeah, to your point,
01:34:04when Club America is your fifth artist
01:34:07on paper opposition in the pre-season.
01:34:10And Joe Bereska is coming in.
01:34:12Some of the toughest opponents he may face.
01:34:15Back by a goal, but just to make it five now.
01:34:19And Dario Schiele getting just enough of a touch.
01:34:22Good eye hold.
01:34:40Tell you what, Bostrom has more passes heading his way
01:34:41than he would like to make it to this match.
01:34:44I can guarantee you,
01:34:44he doesn't want any more passes right now
01:34:46with this suffocating pressure
01:34:48that Celtic is putting on him.
01:34:49And since the moment he came in,
01:34:51his first touch was under pressure
01:34:53where he had to slide and kick it out wide
01:34:55and nearly give away a throw in deep in his own half
01:34:57just to not get the ball taken off of his foot.
01:35:08Colson.
01:35:09He's born very close to Stanford Bridge
01:35:13where he grew up in Manchester,
01:35:14in the Manchester City youth.
01:35:17After he made his pro debut for City
01:35:18in Stanford Bridge against Chelsea in the FA Cup.
01:35:34Chelsea have a consolation goal in them.
01:35:36Switch of play for Malagusto to Sterling,
01:35:38on the near side.
01:35:40Comparative to captain's armband and jeans.
01:35:44Santos.
01:35:48Colson.
01:35:50Good defensive discipline from Celtic.
01:35:52Look how tough they are.
01:35:53Not allowing any passing links through them.
01:35:55They'll concede it to the wide areas.
01:35:57But at the 88th minute,
01:35:59that's a really good sign for Brendan Rogers' side
01:36:01to still be turned on up four to nil.
01:36:05Make sure you're still doing
01:36:06the defensive duties.
01:36:09Making sure that you're doing everything that you need to
01:36:11to try to see this out with a clean sheet.
01:36:16Maria Silva.
01:36:21Malagusto.
01:36:21A turn pass from Santos.
01:36:24Doesn't get there from Malagusto.
01:36:25Wins it back.
01:36:29It's not in cuckoo.
01:36:30Now Sterling.
01:36:32Sterling looking for the angle.
01:36:33He's running.
01:36:34Sterling tripped up in the box
01:36:35and Chelsea have a penalty.
01:36:38A clumsy challenge from behind.
01:36:42And it's going to give the Blues a chance to pull one back.
01:36:46And this is the speed of Raheem Sterling
01:36:48just getting beyond the youngster, Colby Donovan,
01:36:52who extends the leg.
01:36:53And that is a mistake that Donovan does not need
01:36:56to be making at this moment in time.
01:36:59It's just experience versus youth.
01:37:01And Raheem Sterling astutely wins the penalty.
01:37:06The 17-year-old Donovan gives away a penalty.
01:37:13Christopher Nkunku standing over the ball, 12 pieces out.
01:37:16And Nkunku, four of his last five have been goals.
01:37:19The four have gone to the goalkeepers right.
01:37:21The one he missed, he went to the goalkeepers left.
01:37:25Here's Christopher Nkunku, he's buried it.
01:37:27And Chelsea have a goal to celebrate.
01:37:29They've pulled one back.
01:37:32Chelsea won Celtic three.
01:37:40Here's how we got to the 12 yards out.
01:37:42It's Raheem Sterling taking that touch
01:37:43across the face of Donovan.
01:37:45Donovan, he's got it.
01:37:46He's got it.
01:37:47He's got it.
01:37:48He's got it.
01:37:48He's got it.
01:37:49He's got it.
01:37:50He's got it.
01:37:51He's got it.
01:37:52He's got it.
01:37:53He's got it.
01:37:54Donovan needs to let him go.
01:37:56He doesn't.
01:37:56So to the spot we go.
01:37:58And Nkunku has found a lot of success
01:38:00going to the goalkeepers right.
01:38:02He opens up his hips, closes them at the last second.
01:38:05That goal will merely just be a consolation goal
01:38:08to spare them the blushes of being shut out against Celtic.
01:38:11The second pre-season goal for Christopher Nkunku.
01:38:13He got the opener against Wrexham.
01:38:17Another from the spot.
01:38:18Never underestimate the value of an attacking player
01:38:21finding the back of the net, feeling that feeling.
01:38:24So for Nkunku, it won't necessarily matter
01:38:27in the grand scheme of things.
01:38:30This feeling of seeing your eyes pick up after striking it
01:38:35and the ball hitting the back of the net
01:38:37will give the French international
01:38:39much more confidence going into their next matchup.
01:38:43And it's going to be a very, very close game.
01:38:45Going into their next matchup.
01:38:49And they take on Club America on Wednesday, July 31st
01:38:52at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
01:38:56From the moment that he broke into Paris Saint-Germain
01:38:58as a youngster, it's a player that can play
01:39:00any of the positions in the attacking half of the pitch.
01:39:04And for the moment, Chelsea's pre-season top scorer.
01:39:12For more than halfway through a minute
01:39:14they had it on a minimum 60 seconds of stoppage time.
01:39:25Celtic still hungry for a fifth.
01:39:30Chelsea quick to put it back in play through Sterling.
01:39:32Here's Malagusto.
01:39:34Nadia Shield.
01:39:37And there is the final whistle
01:39:39as Celtic's pre-season U.S. tour
01:39:42ends the way it started in perfect fashion.
01:39:46A parade of goals for the Scottish champions.
01:39:494-1 past Chelsea.
01:39:51Four goals in three consecutive games
01:39:53for Brendan Rodgers' Scottish champs.
01:39:55Four goals in their last three
01:39:56and they look of good value to lift
01:39:58their fourth consecutive Scottish premiership
01:40:00onto Kilmarnock next Sunday.
01:40:03For Jamie Watson and Katie Witham,
01:40:05I'm Andrew Scordaro saying so long
01:40:06from Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
01:40:09It's Chelsea one, Celtic four.
