00:00to the United States now and Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on
00:04Kamala Harris at a Christian conservative political conference amid
00:08signs that the race for the White House is tightening. In a vitriolic hour-long
00:12address to the Believers Summit in Florida Mr. Trump described his likely
00:17opponent in November's election as a radical liberal and a bum and mocked the
00:22pronunciation of her name. She was a bum three weeks ago. She was a bum, a failed
00:30vice president and a failed administration with millions of people
00:34crossing and she was the border czar. So now we have a new candidate to defeat
00:41the most incompetent, unpopular and far-left vice president in American
00:47history. That's what she is, the most incompetent but certainly the most far
00:51left. Well for more analysis of what Donald Trump had to say here's our North
00:55America correspondent David Willis. An hour-long address to that Christian
01:01convention as you mentioned in Palm Beach Florida and we heard some of the
01:05mud slung by Donald Trump just there calling Kamala Harris a bum, the most
01:11far-left vice president in American history and he also attacked her record
01:17on immigration saying that her policies and those of Joe Biden had led to
01:22millions of people entering the country illegally. It's amazing to think that
01:27just a week ago Donald Trump was basking in the adulation of Republican Party
01:35members who had conferred on him their presidential nomination for the
01:41elections in November and now he finds himself battling against a much younger
01:47a more energetic candidate in Kamala Harris and somebody who is doing quite
01:53well in the opinion polls as well. Latest polls show that they are basically neck
01:59and neck the two candidates and that Kamala Harris has gained some of the
02:05territory lost as far as opinion polls are concerned to Joe Biden and there is
02:11a two-point difference between the candidates according to that poll in
02:15the Wall Street Journal in Donald Trump's favor but obviously some way to
02:21go a hundred days and a little bit but this election campaign is really heating
02:26up now Nikki. And David it does matter those polls across the country but in
02:31particular it is those key swing states where we have to really look at the
02:36difference between the two candidates and how they're going down particularly
02:41say for example amongst black, Latino, younger voters and in Donald Trump's
02:46case those Christian voters that he was talking to at that at that conference.
02:51You are absolutely right and it's significant that Kamala Harris is due
02:55to be in the vital swing state of Pennsylvania this weekend. Incidentally
03:01Donald Trump has announced plans as well to return there to the town of
03:06Butler where he narrowly survived that assassination attempt. No date has been
03:11given for that gathering which he said will be to honor the firefighter who
03:16died and the two other supporters who were injured in that attack. But it is
03:21the black, Latino and youth votes that both of these candidates are going for
03:28and it's interesting that this poll in the Wall Street Journal shows Kamala
03:32Harris doing particularly well amongst those group of voters. David Willis in
03:38Washington well this comes as the former US President Barack Obama and his wife
03:43Michelle have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic
03:47presidential nominee. It ended days of speculation over whether she'd gain
03:51their support. They said in a phone call they'd do everything they could to help
03:55her win. This report from our North America editor Sarah Smith begins with
03:59Donald Trump's meeting with the Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu for the first
04:04time in four years. Everywhere he goes in America Prime Minister Netanyahu is met
04:10with protests against the war in Gaza. Convicted felon invites a war criminal
04:15reads one sign as he heads to meet Donald Trump in Florida.
04:20Their falling out seems to be forgotten. Donald Trump was reported to be furious
04:26when Mr. Netanyahu congratulated Joe Biden for winning in 2020 when Mr. Trump
04:31was falsely claiming he had not lost. Now he thinks it's good politics to be seen
04:36supporting the Prime Minister as much as possible and attacking what Kamala
04:40Harris had to say about Israel. I think her remarks were disrespectful. They
04:45weren't very nice pertaining to Israel. I actually don't know how a person who's
04:51Jewish can vote for her. For her first steps onto the world stage as the likely
04:55presidential candidate Kamala Harris looked very uncomfortable with such a
04:59controversial leader. Many pro-Palestinian protesters said Joe Biden's support for
05:08Israel's war in Gaza had lost him their votes. Kamala Harris wants to win them
05:13back with a subtly different policy, stressing empathy for the civilian
05:17victims in Gaza. We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies. We cannot
05:23allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering and I will not be silent.
05:30Her campaign got a boost with a personal endorsement from Barack and
05:35Michelle Obama. Curiously the last key senior Democrats to get behind her.
05:42I'm proud of you. This is going to be historic. And it's hardly their fault that this
05:47video is so cringe. I couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to
05:52get you through this election and into the Oval Office. But not quite as cringy
05:58as the attempts from JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, to explain away his
06:02criticism of childless cat ladies with an apology to cats. Obviously it was a
06:08sarcastic comment. I've got nothing against cats. I've got nothing against
06:11dogs. I've got one dog at home and I love him Megan. But look, this is not...
06:15People are focusing so much on the sarcasm and not on the substance of
06:20what I actually said. And the substance of what I said Megan, I'm sorry it's true.
06:25Ms. Harris has had a good start this week with enthusiastic crowds and record
06:30fundraising. But she has got a lot to do before an election that's just over 100
06:35days away.
