00:00In 1861, in a small village in America, four sisters were gathering in their home.
00:05The oldest one is Meg, the second one is Joe, the third one is Amy, and the youngest one
00:10is Beth.
00:12That night, Meg and Joe had planned to go to a dance party at Meggie's friend's house.
00:16When Joe was doing Meg's hair, she accidentally burned Meg's hair.
00:20Thankfully, her carelessness didn't cause much trouble.
00:23It was Joe's first party so Meggie explained the do's and don'ts at the party.
00:28She should never talk too fast, flirt, or praise the boys too much, and many other rules.
00:33During the party, Joe didn't do anything besides watching her sister dance with her friends.
00:38Differently from Meg's graceful nature, Joe's character was the exact opposite.
00:43She is tomboyish, careless, and introverted.
00:46Bored with the party, Joe then looked for a quiet place to take a break.
00:50She then met a boy named Lori.
00:52It turns out that Lori is the son of a rich family who lived in front of Joe's house.
00:57The two of them then talk at length about each other.
01:00Joe told him that her father was at war, while Lori told her that both of his parents have
01:04died and he lived with his grandfather.
01:06In the middle of their chat, Lori invited Joe to dance, but because she was shy, the
01:10two of them danced in a quiet place, away from the crowd.
01:14While dancing, Meg called from the window.
01:17Meg said that she sprained her leg and couldn't walk home.
01:20Out of pity, Lori then took them both home.
01:23When they got home, while taking care of Meg's sprained leg, Joe's mother, whose name
01:27is Marmee, greeted Lori kindly.
01:30Lori smiled as he saw the rest of Joe's family.
01:33All his life, he never felt such warmth of family as Joe's family showed to him.
01:38Days passed and the Christmas arrived.
01:40That morning, Joe and her sisters gathered while telling each other their dreams.
01:45Meg said that one day, she wanted to be an actress, Joe said that she wanted to be a
01:49writer, and Amy wanted to be a famous singer.
01:52Meanwhile, Beth's dream was not as ambitious as her sister's.
01:56She only wanted to be able to play piano to entertain her sisters and mother every day.
02:00Hearing that made her sisters move and hugged her.
02:03An hour later, their mother showed up.
02:06She said that before she went home, she went to the house of their neighbors, the Hummel
02:10family, whose husband was also fighting the war.
02:13She saw that the Hummel family had not eaten since yesterday.
02:17Even to warm themselves, the children had to sleep in one bed, hugging each other.
02:21If possible, Marmee would like to give some blankets and all the food at their home to
02:25the Hummel family.
02:26Out of pity, the four sisters agreed.
02:29Across the road, Laurie saw the four sisters from his window with baskets of food in their
02:33hands.
02:34He knew that Joe and her sisters wanted to share their food with others who needed more.
02:39When they came home far away, they were surprised to find lots of food on their table.
02:44Their family mate told them that before they returned home, Laurie and her grandfather
02:48came and gave them all the food.
02:50Amid the joy, Marmee took out a letter sent from their father.
02:53The four sisters gathered to listen to Marmee.
02:56Even though their father was not there, this Christmas felt like the happiest Christmas
03:00for their family.
03:02The next day, Joe went to see her aunt.
03:04She visited her aunt once a week to learn the manners of noblewomen.
03:08Her aunt was a rich and stingy spinster, but even though she is stingy, she cared a lot
03:12about her nephews.
03:14That was why she wanted to teach Joe to behave like a noblewoman so she could get a rich
03:17husband one day.
03:19Despite all that, Joe didn't seem to want to get married.
03:22She just wanted to live like her aunt.
03:25Become an independent woman who gained all she wanted all by herself.
03:28Meanwhile, her aunt wanted to inherit all her wealth for Joe when he passed away.
03:33One night, Joe and Meg were invited to watch a play with Laurie and Laurie's private tutor
03:37named John.
03:39While they were getting ready, Amie asked to come with her.
03:43She really wanted to meet Laurie, because, she had fallen in love with him since the
03:46first time she saw him when he took her sisters home.
03:49Sadly, they didn't have enough tickets so Amie had to stay.
03:53In the theater, John kept staring at Meg.
03:56Four of them looked happy enjoying their night together, but when they got home, Joe realized
04:00that her handwritten novel had gone.
04:03Joe was sure that Amie was the one who hid her novel.
04:06Joe argued with Amie and suddenly, Amie said that she had burnt the novel because she was
04:09jealous of her.
04:11That words from Amie made Joe angry and beat her sister.
04:14Luckily, Marmee came to separate the two of them.
04:18After the situation calmed down, Marmee told Amie to apologize but Joe didn't want to forgive
04:22her yet.
04:23The next day, during breakfast, Joe was still annoyed at Amie and kept away from Amie.
04:29Not long after, Laurie came to invite Joe for a walk Amie who felt guilty then asked
04:32Meg how to get Joe to forgive her.
04:35Meg told Amie to go after Joe, but don't say anything until Joe smiled.
04:39Amie immediately went to chase after Joe, but in the middle of the road, while crossing
04:43the frozen lake, the ice broke and Meg plunged into freezing water.
04:48Seeing her sister in danger, Joe and Laurie rushed to save her.
04:52Thankfully, they managed to save her and brought her back home.
04:56That night at the house, Joe confided to her mother about his anger issue.
05:00Her mother told her that despite her patience, she once had an anger issue, just like Joe.
05:05Her mother said that if she tried, she was sure that Joe would be able to control herself
05:09too.
05:10Months passed and now, Joe and Amie had made up.
05:13In the afternoon, Laurie took Joe and her family on vacation to the beach with John
05:17and Laurie's friend Fred.
05:19Meg and John's relationship seemed to be getting closer, likewise with Joe and Laurie.
05:24Joe even had a special call for Laurie.
05:27Amie was not jealous of Joe anymore, but she still liked to paint Laurie from the distance
05:31secretly.
05:32The next day, when Marmee was at work, she got the news that her husband, who has just
05:36returned from the battlefield, was being treated in the hospital.
05:40In a panic, the four sisters, Laurie, and his grandfather helped Marmee to get ready
05:45to go to the hospital.
05:46Before leaving, Joe gave quite a lot of money to her mother.
05:50Marmee asked where she got that much money.
05:52Joe then replied that she had sold her hair to the saloon while taking off her hat.
05:57Seeing her daughter's sacrifice, Marmee was very moved.
06:01Three days passed but Marmee had not returned from the hospital.
06:04That morning, Beth asked her sisters to accompany her to see the Hommel family.
06:09Since their mother left for the hospital three days ago, the Hommel family must be starving
06:13because no one gave them food, but instead of hearing her, her sisters were too focused
06:17on their stuff.
06:18Beth decided to leave for the Hommel family's house alone.
06:22Before she went there, she went to Laurie's house first.
06:25She gave a pair of shoes to Laurie's grandfather as a thank you for helping their family from
06:29time to time.
06:31After returning home from the Hommel family's home, her siblings showed her a piano.
06:36Turned out, Laurie's grandfather gave it to her as thanks for her present to him.
06:40He also sent a letter with it, saying that the piano was nothing compared to Beth's gift.
06:44Beth was so moved she then rushed to go then hug the old man.
06:48Laurie's grandfather said that Beth reminded him of his late daughter when she was just
06:51a child.
06:53Amid the chat, Laurie's grandfather realized that Beth was having a fever.
06:57At night, Beth was examined by the doctor.
07:00The results showed that Beth was suffering from flu, and if they were too late to handle
07:04her sickness, Beth's life could be threatened.
07:07The doctor also explained that this disease is easily transmitted to people who had never
07:11had the flu, so for a while, Beth must be quarantined.
07:14Meanwhile, Amy, who had never had the flu, must stay with her aunt for a while.
07:20Two days later, Amy was still staying at her aunt's house.
07:23When she was painting, her aunt looked at her and found her gracious nature.
07:27Her aunt then asked her if she wanted to replace Joe to come to her place every week.
07:31Her aunt thought that compared to Joe, whose nature was tomboyish, Amy was more elegant
07:35and is perfect to be a noblewoman and become her successor.
07:39If Amy agreed to be a good girl, her aunt will guarantee her future.
07:43Hearing that, Amy, who was still innocent, smiled and happily agreed.
07:48On the other hand, Beth's condition seemed to be getting worse.
07:51Her sisters didn't know how to treat her flu.
07:54They then decided to call their mother to go home to take care of their sister.
07:58Hours later, Marmee came.
08:00With her tenderness, she managed to take control.
08:03It was late that night, but Marmee was still taking care of Beth.
08:07The next morning, when Joe woke up, she panicked because she couldn't find Beth in her bed.
08:12She ran downstairs calling for her mother, but it turned out, Beth was there with her.
08:17She was healed from her flu.
08:19Joe happily hugged her beloved sister.
08:22Months later, Christmas arrived once again, but different from last year's Christmas,
08:26this year, Lori's grandfather joined in celebrating Christmas.
08:30Suddenly, Lori showed up with a surprise.
08:33He brought Joe's father home from the hospital.
08:36Months passed and today was Meg and John's wedding day, but instead of being happy like
08:40the others, Joe was actually sad.
08:43She then asked Meg to run away with her so that Meg could chase her dream instead of
08:46getting married.
08:48Hearing that, Meg smiled and said that she didn't have to do that.
08:51Meg said that it was her choice to marry and abandon her dream.
08:55Meg said that being an independent woman doesn't mean ones should not fall in love.
08:59She had made up her mind and Joe had to respect her decision, even though deep down, she couldn't
09:03accept how her sister abandoned her dream to get married.
09:07After the party, Lori invited Joe to chat with her just the two of them.
09:11At that moment, Lori dared himself to propose to Joe, but instead of being happy, Joe was
09:16angry.
09:17She said that she never wanted to fall in love from the very start.
09:21She just wanted to be an independent woman who was successful in making her dreams come
09:24true.
09:26For Joe, Lori was just a brother to her.
09:29Lori's heart was broken.
09:30Before leaving, Lori said that no matter how hard she tried to avoid love, one day, Joe
09:35would eventually fall in love.
09:37It is not humans who reach for love, but the love itself chose where to stay.
09:42With his heart broken, Lori left from there.
09:45Seven years later, Joe had grown up and moved to New York City.
09:49She never met Lori since she turned down his proposal.
09:52Joe was wanting to offer her script to a large publishing company in New York, but because
09:56woman's emancipation was not issued at that time, it was difficult for women to get jobs.
10:01Joe was forced to confess to the editor that the work that he brought was not hers but
10:05rather her male friends.
10:07When it was read, the editor was interested.
10:10He was willing to publish the work, as long as he was allowed to change the ending of
10:13her writing to a happy ending since the editor felt that the ending of the writing was too
10:17tragic and would definitely not sell well in the market.
10:20Like it or not, for the sake of money, Joe allowed her writing to be changed.
10:25After returning to her boarding house, Joe immediately wrote a new story next to the
10:29fireplace, but because he was too focused, she didn't realize that her dress was on fire.
10:34Fortunately, warned her about her dress.
10:37That man is Friedrich, a young lecturer at a campus in New York City who also lived there.
10:42Shortly after, their landlord came and told Joe that her students were waiting for her
10:46upstairs.
10:47Besides working as a writer, Joe also worked as a private tutor.
10:51Before leaving, Friedrich asked why did she bother to work that hard when most of the
10:55women her age preferred to marry instead.
10:57Casually, Joe replied that she was not at all interested in getting married.
11:02After all, this is just a side job.
11:04Joe's main goal was to keep fulfilling her dream of becoming a famous book writer.
11:09Friedrich was amazed by her answer.
11:12That night at the theater, Joe saw Friedrich who just finished watching one of the shows.
11:16Joe was eager to chat with him again so she followed him to a bar.
11:20There, someone asked her to dance with the other visitors including Friedrich.
11:24Joe was so happy.
11:26She reminisced the memory where she danced with Lori years ago.
11:29The next evening, Friedrich secretly sent a book and a letter to Joe.
11:34Friedrich wrote in his letter that he was curious about Joe's writings and would like
11:37to see them after she finished them.
11:39That letter made Joe happy.
11:41She made up her mind to finish her work that very night.
11:45After staying up all night writing, Joe finally finished her work.
11:48She immediately went to visit Friedrich and showed him her work.
11:52She was sure that Friedrich would love her writing, but that was not what happened.
11:56Friedrich criticized her writing all out and made Joe irritated.
12:00She then burst into anger and told Friedrich that he didn't understand what she read.
12:04Moreover, he never wrote anything before.
12:07Joe immediately left from there.
12:10On the other hand, in the city of Paris, France.
12:13Amy was seen taking a stroll with her aunt on their horse-drawn carriage.
12:17She had grown up to be a beautiful woman and was dating Lori's friend, Fred.
12:22Amy told her aunt that she received a letter from her mother in the morning, saying that
12:25Beth was badly sick, but rather than sympathizing and telling her to return home to see her
12:30sister's condition, her aunt told her not to worry too much because her sisters were
12:33there to take care of Beth.
12:35In the middle of the road, Amy saw Lori who happened to pass by.
12:39She called his name and immediately run to hug him.
12:43She hadn't seen him for years since she lived with her aunt.
12:46Before she left, Amy told Lori her address and invited him to come to visit if he had
12:50the time.
12:51A few days later, Joe also received a letter from Marmee about Beth's condition.
12:56Her reaction was different from Amy's.
12:59Without thinking much, she immediately returned home to check on her sister.
13:03When she saw that the whole family had gathered except Amy.
13:06She was annoyed.
13:08She grumbled all day.
13:10Her mother told her that Amy might have something to do.
13:13Her mother also mentioned that Amy had just met Lori and told her that they might come
13:16back home eventually when her business is finished.
13:20After taking off her jacket, Joe rushed to check on Beth's condition.
13:24On one side, Joe was worried about his sister's condition, but she also thought about Marmee's
13:28words earlier.
13:30She was jealous because Amy was the one that Lori met after years, not her.
13:35Joe also wanted to meet him again and fix her past mistakes.
13:39That night, when John checked his savings, he was confused as to why he ran out of money
13:43in his savings.
13:44Meg then confessed that she had made a mistake by buying new clothes for herself and the
13:48children.
13:49Meg tried to apologize.
13:52John didn't say anything, but that made Meg feel more guilty.
13:55She said that she was jealous when he saw his friend shopping for new clothes, so she
13:59bought some too.
14:01Hearing that made John disappointed.
14:03Meanwhile, in France, Lori came to visit Amy while she was managing her paintings.
14:08Lori asked when would she make an exhibit for her paintings.
14:11Amy replied she has stopped painting because she realized that her painting was not pleasing
14:15to see.
14:17She just waiting for Fred to propose to her, then the two of them will get married.
14:21During the chat, Lori was mesmerized by Amy.
14:24She looked prettier than back when they were younger.
14:27In the middle of the chat, from the window, Amy saw Fred coming.
14:31Before welcoming Fred, Amy asked Lori how she looked.
14:34While smiling, Lori said that she was stunning.
14:38Days passed.
14:39When the two of them met again, Lori asked Amy to paint him.
14:43After finishing the painting, Lori accidentally saw an old painting of him.
14:47Amy said that he painted it back when they were on vacation on the beach 7 years ago.
14:52Lori realized that Amy had feelings for him for years, but he never realized that.
14:56At that very moment, Lori immediately dared to propose to Amy and told her to leave Fred
15:01if she still loved him.
15:03Hearing that made Amy cry.
15:05She knew that she was just a release after Joe rejected him.
15:08Amy immediately left him alone.
15:11The next day, Amy's aunt told her that Lori had just come to say goodbye.
15:15Lori had planned to move to London and would not come back again.
15:19Amy didn't say anything.
15:20Deep down, Amy still had feeling for Lori, but she didn't have the heart to hurt Fred's
15:24heart.
15:26Amy had a dilemma, until finally, in the afternoon, when Fred proposed to her, Amy refused his
15:31proposal.
15:32Hearing Amy have rejected a man as rich as Fred, her aunt was shocked.
15:36On the other hand, Joe took Beth to the beach.
15:39Joe told Beth that she would stop writing and was going to focus on taking care of her.
15:44Hearing that, Beth disagreed.
15:46Beth said that she wanted her sister to continue writing if she wanted her to be happy.
15:51After that, Joe was determined to write the best novel story he had ever written.
15:55The next day, when Joe was taking care of Beth, she saw Meg and John in front of their
15:59house.
16:01At first, Meg thought John was going to scold her again about the new clothes she bought
16:04yesterday, but it turned out that John was sorry and promised that he would try to find
16:08extra money so that Meg could buy the nice things.
16:11She was so moved.
16:13She then said that John didn't need to look for a new job.
16:16As a wife, she should be more grateful to accept whatever his husband's condition was.
16:21From inside, Joe was touched to see what happened between Meg and John.
16:25She was happy for them, but suddenly, Beth had seizures.
16:29Her sickness was much worse than what happened seven years ago.
16:33That night, Joe slept next to Beth while crying and kept holding Beth's hand.
16:37Joe kept telling her to stay alive and fight for her health.
16:40The next morning, Joe was surprised when she couldn't find Beth in her bed.
16:45She immediately ran downstairs to the kitchen to look for her.
16:48There, she only found her mother, crying about something.
16:52Turned out, Beth had died.
16:54After Beth's funeral, Joe packed up her things.
16:57Shortly after, Marmee came and the two of them then had a long chat discussing Joe's
17:01dream to become a famous writer, but Joe didn't seem interested at all.
17:05She said that she had been alone for too long and that she might need someone to lean
17:09on.
17:10She said that if Lori came and proposed to her, she will accept his proposal right away.
17:15The only thing she needed was to feel loved.
17:18She didn't even care if she could love the man or not.
17:21Marmee told her that she still had a lot in life, and it will definitely be much happier
17:24if she could also love the man.
17:27Joe couldn't say anything to respond.
17:29Meanwhile, Amy was about to go home when suddenly, Lori showed up.
17:33While crying, Amy said that she was sorry for not coming earlier to see Beth.
17:38She then invited Lori to come home together, but Lori refused.
17:42He had promised himself to stay away from Amy.
17:44Amy told him that she refused Fred's proposal the day before.
17:48Hearing that made Lori so happy.
17:51He kissed her right away and proposed to her.
17:54In the evening, when Joe was sleeping, Lori woke her up.
17:57He and Amy had just arrived.
17:59Joe smiled and hugged him, but her smile immediately disappeared when Lori told her
18:03that he and Amy had just married.
18:06Lori told a long story about his meeting with Amy and how they both decided to get married
18:10on the way home.
18:11Joe was shocked.
18:13He went out to calm his mind.
18:15Outside, he saw Lori's grandfather.
18:18When Joe asked what he was doing, he explained that he didn't have the heart to go inside.
18:23Since the first time he met Beth, he had considered her his granddaughter.
18:27When he found out that Beth had passed away, he was heartbroken.
18:31Hearing that, Joe held his hand and said that even though she was not Beth, she didn't mind
18:35being his friend too.
18:37After he calmed down, the two of them went inside.
18:40At night, Joe couldn't sleep.
18:42She kept remembering Beth's last wish.
18:45Even though her writing couldn't cure her, Joe was eager to grant her sister's last wish.
18:49That very night, Joe started writing her best novel.
18:53For days, Joe continued to write without taking a rest, until finally, Joe's novel
18:57was finished.
18:58When it was time to send it to the publisher, Joe confidently wrote her name in there.
19:03She was sure, even though she was only a woman, she could be as great and even greater than
19:07men.
19:08The next day, while having breakfast, Joe's parents told her that someone was waiting
19:12to meet her.
19:14Turned out it was Friedrich.
19:16She was happy to be able to see him again.
19:18They spent the rest of the day together with the family.
19:21When Friedrich was about to go home, he said that he was sorry and said his purpose to
19:25criticize Joe's writing at that time was only because he wanted to motivate Joe to be able
19:29to write even better.
19:31Joe just smiled as she said that she didn't care about the problem anymore.
19:35She was just so happy to see Friedrich again.
19:38When Friedrich left, everyone asked why Joe didn't express her feelings.
19:42They knew from the look in her eyes, Joe must have liked him.
19:45Meg and Amy kept forcing her to chase him.
19:48They even took her to the station.
19:50At the station, when Joe met Friedrich, she immediately said that she loved Friedrich.
19:55Thankfully, Friedrich shared the same feeling with her.
19:58They then shared a very romantic kiss.
20:01Years later, their aunt passed away, but surprisingly, their aunt actually left all her wealth to
20:06Joe.
20:07Amy didn't look jealous at all.
