00:00Immovably Secure The picture in verse 4 is not perhaps detailed
00:06in the way we would wish.
00:08Yet the whole of Israel, the redeemed people, God's firstborn son is represented by twelve
00:13pillars.
00:15And we are at liberty to think of the altar that Moses also builds as being encircled
00:20by those who have been brought to God.
00:23The stonework used for the pillars stands for permanency, twelve stands for totality.
00:28A telling portrayal of what has been achieved.
00:32Acceptation into the actual presence of God is fixed there in perpetuity.
00:37Israel was brought out of Egypt by the blood of the Lamb, the blood of sacrifice holds
00:42them secure in the presence of their Redeemer God.
00:45The burnt offerings stand for commitment and atonement, the peace offerings for acceptance
00:50and fellowship.
00:52The way Moses uses the blood in verses 6, 8 completes the imagery.
00:58Remember how at the Passover the Lord came in wrath but passed over in peace the blood
01:02marked houses.
01:04Wrath was satisfied and peace established by the evidence that a substitute had died.
01:10Blood as such symbolized life laid down and terminated in death, and first exercised its
01:15wondrous effect Godward.
01:18In the same way in Exodus 24 the blood is first applied Godward, and this is the reason
01:23why Israel is immovably secure, the blood satisfies wrath and secures peace.
01:30But the primary characteristic of the redeemed is obedience to the word of God.
01:35For this reason Moses reads the book of the covenant and the people respond with a commitment
01:40to obey.
01:42Yet no sooner have they committed themselves to obey than the remaining blood is sprinkled
01:46on them.
01:47In other words, while they commit themselves to obedience, the precious blood of their
01:52substitute covers all their shortcomings, deficiencies, and failures.
01:57We walk in the light of God's word and the blood of Jesus, God's son, keeps on cleansing
02:02us from all sin.
02:04The life of the redeemed is always dependent on sacrificial blood, we are the recipients
02:09and trustees of the revealed word of God.
02:12And our life of obedience is still covered by the blood that saved us.
02:17Reflection Rejoice in the words of this hymn.
02:21There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins.
02:26And sinners plunge beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
02:30Dear dying lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power till all the ransomed
02:35church of God be saved, to sin no more.
