00:00Playing a chef on the bear, have you brought any of the cooking techniques into your everyday life?
00:04Everybody's always like asking me if I make the omelette in real life.
00:07You know how many eggs I had to eat just to get that thing right?
00:11Yeah.
00:12Never again.
00:14Hi, I'm Aya Odebrey.
00:15I'm Lionel Boyce.
00:16I'm Liza Clonces.
00:18Esquire has asked us to explain some things.
00:21Gravity, nuclear fission, velocity are none of those things.
00:26So here we go and let's find out what they actually are.
00:29If you could make a cameo on any existing show, which would you choose and why?
00:41I don't know why.
00:42I don't think I'm equipped at all to be on this show, but Hax.
00:45That would be Genie Smart.
00:47I just, yo, I don't know.
00:49I'd probably beat her up though, but no.
00:52What?
00:53What?
00:54No, but you know like Genie Smart, like Hax.
00:57If Tina and Genie Smart had a crossover.
01:01I don't think it's Tina.
01:02I think it's like you as an actor.
01:03Oh no, not me.
01:04Yeah.
01:05Not me.
01:06No, Tina.
01:07Because it was a crossover show.
01:08Yeah, but I think the question is like if you.
01:09Wait.
01:10It's not a crossover show.
01:11No, no.
01:12I kind of like this question better.
01:13If you took your character.
01:14And put it anywhere?
01:15Yeah.
01:16And put it on another show.
01:17That's it.
01:18That's it.
01:19No.
01:20What would you do for Lionel and what would you do for Marcus?
01:21Well, if I did for Lionel, I would put Lionel in the bear and he has a conversation with
01:23Marcus.
01:24Okay.
01:26That's the two craziest answers to one of the most straightforward questions I've ever
01:31heard in my life.
01:33Tina does karaoke in season two.
01:36What are your go-to karaoke songs?
01:38I don't do karaoke for the record.
01:41Um.
01:42Sang it.
01:43But.
01:44Sang it.
01:45Interesting choice.
01:46But.
01:47It's usually anything Motown connected.
01:48Ain't no mountain high enough.
01:49Ain't no valley low enough.
01:50That's my shower song.
01:51My shower song.
01:52My shower go-to.
01:53That was good.
01:54I liked it.
01:55You answered that like a karaoke person.
01:56Like, ah, I don't do it, but I got seven songs.
01:57Literally seven songs in the pocket.
01:58Oh, what?
01:59This old thing?
02:00No, no, no.
02:01You should be the best.
02:02Just substitute karaoke for shower.
02:03Mine's just La Bamba.
02:04Yeah?
02:05Yeah.
02:06I like to open up with something sort of repulsive almost.
02:07So, like, Cape Bush, Wuthering Heights.
02:08Beautiful song, but repulsive karaoke choice.
02:09You know what I mean?
02:10Open up the gate with falsetto.
02:11Creed.
02:12All of that.
02:13I like that.
02:14I like that.
02:15I like that.
02:16I like that.
02:17I like that.
02:18I like that.
02:19I like that.
02:21I like that.
02:22I like that.
02:23I like that.
02:24I like that.
02:25I like that.
02:26I like that.
02:27I like that.
02:28I like that.
02:29I like that.
02:30I like that.
02:31Your lie is hurt.
02:32Indelucidare.
02:33I love that song.
02:34Playing a chef on The Bear, have you brought any of the cooking techniques into your everyday
02:35life?
02:36Not really, except for I'm better at slicing and dicing.
02:40Having knife skills for sure, knife safety for sure, and everybody's always, like, asking
02:46me if I make the omelet in real life.
02:48You know how many eggs I had to eat
02:50just to get that thing right?
02:53Yeah.
02:54Never again.
02:54I learned some supremes for season three
02:58and I was just honestly doing that for a while,
03:00just making these perfect cuts of fruit.
03:03Just eating that and then juicing the other side of it.
03:05It was a great like two weeks of my life, but yeah.
03:09What's the most delicious thing
03:10you've gotten to try on the show?
03:12The chicken piccata that me and Carmen make.
03:15That was like the best thing
03:17because we literally were just making it and eating it
03:19and trying it and seasoning it ourselves
03:22and we kept getting yelled at by our prop master
03:25because she was like, stop eating this, this is a prop.
03:28So I think also the act of theft made it more delicious.
03:31I feel like it was the braised beef, was it?
03:35Yeah, it was the risotto with the short rib
03:38that Maddie and Coco made.
03:39It was for your dish
03:41and I think everyone just kept eating that
03:43in between takes.
03:44Yeah, that piccata crew was like,
03:47you need to eat it.
03:47I feel like that was in the same week too
03:49when you're like, we gotta stop.
03:51That was really good, yeah.
03:52Thoughts on Marcus' spinoff when he starts his own bakery?
03:55I'm gonna pass this to Ayo
03:56because I feel like she has a lot of thoughts on this.
03:58I don't know, I just have one thought.
04:00What is one thought?
04:01Which is that sweet Marcus is a fool.
04:03If he tried to open up a business,
04:06it would shut down in like two days.
04:09It would be one season, 10 episodes,
04:11episode one, he opens and it closes.
04:14The nine episodes, it's just,
04:16it keeps falling and getting worse and worse.
04:18It's that or it's like the entire season
04:19is just him working in his restaurant
04:21and you find out that it's never opened
04:22and he's like delusional and he doesn't work there.
04:25He's just in a random warehouse.
04:27Yeah, yeah.
04:28And then the last episode,
04:28he like floats up to heaven or something, I guess.
04:31I like touched my angel butt.
04:33He's like, what did we learn here?
04:36Ayo, what inspired you to direct an episode,
04:38Bloodlust and Power?
04:39Just kidding.
04:40No, I don't know.
04:42I've known Chris Storver, creator of the show
04:43since I was like 21 or 22 or something.
04:46And he's kind of always been like secretly
04:49Jedi mind mentoring me, I feel like.
04:52And we would talk about directing, watching direct.
04:54And so, yeah, that's kind of the seed of it.
04:57And the most challenging part about it,
05:00I think was like the things
05:01that I thought would be challenging.
05:03Like, I think I had a lot of anxiety beforehand
05:06about things that I hadn't done.
05:08Like I'd never really been in the edit before.
05:10And then, I don't know,
05:12directing I think is just a lot of prep.
05:14So as we actually did the work
05:16and as I stopped getting out of my head
05:18and realized that it is a collaboration,
05:20that made it a lot more fun,
05:23a lot easier, honestly,
05:26to just kind of like let people do their jobs.
05:30What I can't stand about Tina is,
05:34Tina doesn't like peppers on those beef sandwiches.
05:37I can't stand it.
05:38It's like the hardest acting I gotta do
05:40is the peppers on it.
05:41And what do you love most about her?
05:43I love that she's a, you know, she's a mama bear.
05:48And she, you know, she's protective with tough love.
05:51Ayo, have you read Coach K's book?
05:53Do you follow any of the advice in it?
05:55I'm gonna be so real with you.
05:56I tried to read the book and I was like,
05:57this is for people with like real jobs.
05:59Like this is like an actual book.
06:02And I like books that are about like depressed girls.
06:05Like that's what I read.
06:06And this is like a book for like real people
06:08with real jobs.
06:09But I liked like the vibe of it.
06:11But I was just like,
06:12I don't have like the capacity to finish this book.
06:14I like books about depressed women.
06:16Respect.
06:16Yeah.
06:17And depressed men as well.
06:20Shout out to you.
06:22If you could sit down for a meal
06:23with any character besides your own,
06:25who would you choose and why?
06:26I think Sydney,
06:27cause I feel like we'll get along with her
06:29and I mean, the food will be good.
06:32I would say Gary, aka Sweeps.
06:34I just feel like he's like really chill vibe.
06:38He's just like a nice dude.
06:40And Olivia Colman.
06:43Yeah.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Chef Terry.
06:46I gotta start thinking more beforehand.
06:48Wait, also Cicero, aka Uncle Jimmy,
06:51aka Oliver Platt cause he'd like take you
06:54to like a really nice steakhouse
06:55and then you'd pay for the whole thing.
06:57Lana, your Copenhagen episode was filmed on location.
07:00What was your favorite food spot in Copenhagen?
07:02It was so many things I had that I liked.
07:04I liked the chicken sandwich at Poulet.
07:06Yep.
07:07That was good.
07:08Shout out, Martin.
07:09Sanchez.
07:10Yeah, the desserts there are really good.
07:11Like this churro thing with like Negroni ice cream on it.
07:14That was crazy.
07:15And it's not a food spot,
07:17but hanging out at the Tivoli Gardens,
07:19riding some rides.
07:20I have to throw that in there.
07:21Throw it in there.
07:21Yeah.
07:22Let them know.
07:23What is the perfect meal for three people?
07:25I think like wings, right?
07:27Wings and an endless supply of king crab.
07:30Korean fried chicken.
07:31Yeah, see.
07:32And like beer.
07:33Yeah.
07:34Damn.
07:36Ayo, do you remember getting the offer to host SNL?
07:39What surprised you the most
07:40about the week leading up to the show?
07:41Yes, I remember getting the offer
07:43because I was in the booth recording for Inside Out 2
07:47and somebody came in and was like,
07:48oh, people are telling us
07:50that they need to meet you right now.
07:51And I was like, oh, surely my entire family died.
07:54Everybody was raptured and I got left behind.
07:58And so that's why my agency is calling me.
08:00And then they told me, and then I cried.
08:02And then I was like, I guess I'm doing SNL.
08:04I guess I have to like leave.
08:05And they were like, okay, bye.
08:07And then what surprised you the most
08:08about the week leading up to the show
08:10is that I had a job.
08:11I thought that I was gonna be a cute little celebrity
08:14to show up and be like, oh, hi, Rick sketched me.
08:16And I was working and I was pitching
08:18and I was attending meetings.
08:21But it was actually like a blast.
08:22I had the best time.
08:23It was so beautifully stupid, complimentary word.
08:28And fun.
08:29All right, thanks for watching.
08:31Make sure to check out The Bear season three
08:34on Hulu or Disney Plus.
08:37And Disney Plus.
08:39Okay.
08:40Okay.
08:41Okay.
08:41Okay.
08:42Okay.
