The showers continue through the evening before dying out overnight, with only the odd shower in places. The cloud then thickens again across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England, bringing some rain with it. Elsewhere will remain largely dry.– This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 26/07/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

00:00Thanks for joining me for this latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Something sunnier and hotter on the way as we go through the weekend.
00:08But before we get there, we do have low pressure dominating things right now.
00:13Weather front's bringing a fair few showers and there will be more showers on Saturday.
00:17But after that, look at this high pressure is moving in.
00:20High pressure means the air is generally sinking and that will bring most of us a fine day on Sunday.
00:25The high is also likely to stick around.
00:27Weather fronts try and push in from the northwest with the high pressure in control, certainly across the south.
00:33We should see a few days of dry, sunny and warmer weather,
00:38because as the high starts to edge away to the east, we could waft up some hotter air from the south.
00:44Weather front's trying to push in, keeping things a little cooler across the far northwest.
00:48But generally speaking, that area of high pressure will win out.
00:52That's all to come through the early part of next week.
00:55First, let's get through Friday night and Saturday,
00:58because there will still be plenty of showers around from the low pressure and those weather fronts.
01:03The showers tending to fade as we go through Friday evening.
01:05Still one or two heavy ones across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:09And later in the night, the cloud thickening up again across the Isle of Man into northwest England, southwest Scotland.
01:14Some wetter weather returning here.
01:16But generally, most places turning dry and clear, a little fresher than recent nights as well.
01:21Down to single digits in parts of the countryside, towns and cities, 10 to 13.
01:27So on to the detail for Saturday.
01:29And this area of rain, it could be quite heavy, particularly over the Lake District early on in the morning.
01:34So bear that in mind if you're heading here and some heavier rain will move into southeast Scotland as we go through the morning as well.
01:41Quite a lot of spray and surface water on the roads here.
01:44Elsewhere, generally you'll find a sunny start to the weekend.
01:47But as we go through the day, we will see more showers developing,
01:50particularly over Wales, right across northern England and the Midlands.
01:54And in this zone, we could even see the odd thunderstorm.
01:57One or two scattered showers across southwest England.
02:00Not as many showers for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:02Overall, a much drier day here, particularly on the west coast of Scotland.
02:06Some good spells of sunshine.
02:07And another place largely dry on Saturday, just like Friday, East Anglia and the southeast.
02:12Not many showers around here.
02:14And that's what we'll see, the top temperatures, 23 degrees Celsius, maybe up to 24 or even 25 in one or two places.
02:21A warmer day in Edinburgh as well, 21 here.
02:23But with this cloudier zone, with more showers, probably a cooler day over northern England, Wales and parts of the Midlands.
02:29Can't completely rule out showers.
02:31Of course, East Anglia and the southeast, particularly through the evening, one or two could push in.
02:34But as we go through the evening, look, the showers do tend to fade away.
02:38Most places becoming dry by midnight and then most places will be dry throughout Sunday.
02:44It's going to be a fine day by and large.
02:46Any early morning mist and fog should clear away.
02:49And then, yeah, something we haven't seen too much of through the summer, a cracking summer's day with lots of sunshine and temperatures getting a little bit above average.
02:57Can't completely rule out showers over the northern isles, a bit breezy maybe over the western isles.
03:01But generally, for most places, it's light winds, quite a bit of blue sky and those temperatures getting up where widely above 20 degrees Celsius across central and eastern England into the mid 20s, 27 is possible in and around the London area.
03:15And things could, as we saw at the start, get hotter still as we go into the early part of next week.
03:21So plenty going on with the weather through this weekend and indeed beyond.
03:25Make sure you stay up to date.
