Transcript
00:00We know that the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Bagyong Karina, is now out of our time.
00:06From Pagasa Weather Forecaster, Daniel James Villamil, good evening. This is Joshua Garcia of PTV Ulatbayan.
00:13Good evening to our listeners here at PTV.
00:17Earlier this afternoon at 4 o'clock, the center of Bagyong Karina was last seen.
00:21550 kilometers north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.
00:25Another typhoon that is outside of our Philippine Area of Responsibility,
00:30with strong winds near the center,
00:32reaching 120 kilometers per hour and opening up to 180 kilometers per hour.
00:38It continues to move west-southwestward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
00:43This afternoon, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was still high in the area of Batanes.
00:49It is still possible for the winds to open up in the mentioned area.
00:52Meanwhile, this southwest monsoon, which is being swept by Tropical Cyclone Karina,
00:56is also causing winds to open up in a large part of Luzon and Visayas.
01:02This southwest monsoon is also causing rain in a large part of Luzon today.
01:07Especially in this western section of our country,
01:10we can still experience monsoon rains.
01:13Continuous and strong rains.
01:16It is more clear in the time that we will experience in a large part of Visayas and Mindanao.
01:21We are still prepared for the chances of sudden and rapid rains caused by localized thunderstorms.
01:26At the moment, we have a new low-pressure area that is being monitored inside our VAR.
01:31Earlier this afternoon, it was last seen at a distance of 985 kilometers,
01:36east of southeastern Mindanao.
01:39There is a high chance that the mentioned low-pressure area
01:42will be affected by a typhoon like this within the next 24 to 48 hours.
01:46In our region, we still have a gale warning
01:50in the coastal areas of Batanes, Cagayan, Pabuyon Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
01:56So in these areas, to our fellow fishermen,
02:00and to those who will be traveling by sea in these areas,
02:04please do not go out because we can still experience a high-pressure area
02:07due to the strong winds caused by Tropical Cyclone Karina.
02:12Sir James, you mentioned that Tropical Cyclone Karina is already out of the VAR.
02:17But in your monitoring, can we read if the country will still experience heavy rainfall?
02:23Yes, Karina will no longer have an effect on us,
02:26except for the area of Batanes where we will still experience strong winds.
02:31We will be more concerned about Habagat in the coming days,
02:34especially the western section of the country,
02:36because it is continuously being affected by Tropical Cyclone Karina.
02:39Okay, so Sir James, aside from Batanes,
02:41are there other areas that have been severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Karina?
02:47Yes, so mostly in the northern Luzon areas,
02:49are the areas that have experienced direct rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Karina.
02:54So the rainfall that we have experienced in Metro Manila
02:56and in a large portion of Luzon and Western Visayas
02:59is due to Habagat, the southwest monsoon that Tropical Cyclone Karina has attacked in the past few days.
03:06And do we have any data on whether Tropical Cyclone Karina has caused heavy damage to the entire country?
03:11Yes, so in Habagat, we have witnessed extensive rainfall in several parts of Luzon,
03:18especially in the western Luzon,
03:20because this is the area that is most exposed to the strong winds of Habagat.
03:24So in these areas, we have recorded the rainfall.
03:28In the coming days, it is still possible that there will be heavy rainfall in the western Luzon,
03:33so it is possible that the lands will be saturated.
03:35And if we have heavy rainfall, it is still possible that the lands will be flooded.
03:41Sir James, you mentioned earlier that you are monitoring the LPA.
03:44Although you said earlier that there is a small possibility that this typhoon will occur,
03:48are we expecting a typhoon in the coming months, for August?
03:51And if there is one, how many?
03:53Yes, for the month of August, there are two typhoons that are possible to occur or enter our PR.
03:59We are monitoring the low-pressure area.
04:01There is still a small chance that there will be a tropical cyclone in the coming days.
04:06Okay, thank you very much.
04:07Reporting from the Weather Forecaster, Daniel James Villamin.
