YS Sharmila Reddy, Congress party chief in Andhra Pradesh, waded into waist-deep floodwaters on July 24 to highlight the Union government's indifference to the state's flooding crisis. Visiting Nandamur village in West Godavari, Sharmila criticized the Modi government for neglecting Andhra Pradesh in the recent Budget, while states like Bihar, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh received flood relief funds. Over 420 villages are inundated, with 9,078 people evacuated to relief camps.

00:15We are standing here to bring to the notice of the nation
00:19that Andhra Pradesh is badly suffering from the flood losses, from the flood.
00:23So, we demand that the BJP government who has given funds to the Bihar for flood relief
00:29has not considered the claims of Andhra Pradesh.
00:32Why this partiality is our question.
00:34This flood here in this particular village is a man-made flood.
00:38We say this because the last government, the YCB government in Andhra Pradesh,
00:42Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy being the Chief Minister,
00:45did not give any funds at all for the maintenance of any projects,
00:48not even for clearing the debris.
00:50Thereby, this flood has occurred here.
00:52And now, currently, the Chief Minister is Mr. Chandrababu Naidu.
00:55We are asking the Chief Minister to take note of this,
00:58that he immediately take measures to not only compensate the farmers here,
01:04but also to take measures to repair the canals and to clear the debris.
01:08So, this does not repeat itself.
01:10And also, BJP has to answer why they did not give us any flood relief to Andhra Pradesh.
01:16While we are demanding answers from them,
01:19we are also demanding Mr. Chandrababu Naidu
01:21to pay immediate attention to these farmers here.
01:24They have indeed suffered enough.
01:26Please pay the compensation and make sure these canals are repaired
01:31and this does not repeat again.
