00:00And now, we will talk to Marikina Mayor Marcy Chudoro. Good evening, Mayor.
00:06Good evening to us and to the viewers and listeners.
00:11Mayor, Bea's report shows that the level of water in Marikina River is still high.
00:16How is it now? Is it still flooding in Marikina?
00:21It is still flooding in many places, 18.5 meters.
00:25It went down by 20 meters earlier at 8 p.m.
00:30because it rained until 6 p.m.
00:34And we can see that because of that rain,
00:37the water flowing to Marikina River was reduced.
00:44One thing to note is that 4,727 families were in our evacuation centers earlier,
00:5423,596 individuals at 8 p.m.
00:58But now, as the night deepens,
01:02before I left the evacuation centers,
01:06I saw that the number of more than 1,000 families increased
01:10and almost 7,000 individuals were added to the evacuation centers.
01:19There are 5,845 families and 29,000 individuals.
01:23Some have returned to sleep or rest in the evacuation centers.
01:29Others are worried about staying in their homes because it's getting dark
01:35and they are worried that the water level will rise in their area.
01:40But now, Mayor, at this time, we are not being evacuated from areas of concern,
01:49especially low-lying areas. Is that right?
01:52That's right.
01:54Earlier, when it got dark until 8 or 9 p.m.,
02:01we are still moving around areas to ensure the safety of those who are not being evacuated,
02:09especially bedridden patients who are left in their homes
02:13or small children whose parents went home early in the morning
02:18and returned late in the afternoon or late at night.
02:22They found that their area is flooded.
02:26Now that the water level is going down,
02:29we can see that the areas where people were evacuating earlier are becoming safer.
02:41Okay. Mayor, earlier, some were saying that their memories of the floods are coming back.
02:50What do you think is the difference in our response to the floods?
02:56First, our protocol in the evacuation centers has changed.
03:05We have opened more evacuation centers.
03:08We have dedicated areas for PWDs, vulnerable sectors,
03:15children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
03:24Second, the whole community is helping there.
03:32There are more coordinators now.
03:35We also saw the whole-of-government approach earlier.
03:42This is a new normal.
03:45The rainfall count and the duration of the rains are different.
03:50In Undoy, it rained for six hours.
03:52It's longer now.
03:54It's longer.
03:56But the volume of the rainfall count is the same as in Undoy.
04:02This is what we saw.
04:04Earlier, we helped the Metro Manila Council.
04:09What we are requesting is for the forecasting to be co-coordinated
04:16and for the data to be seen by LGUs like us.
04:21We are a downstream community.
04:24Hopefully, we can see the data that is happening in the upstream area,
04:30around Marikina, especially in the upper Antipolo area.
04:34What's happening there is that the rainfall is high,
04:37the water level is low, especially here in Marikina.
04:41Thank you very much.
04:44Thank you very much for this opportunity.
04:47Good evening.
