00:00Here we have an update on the width of the Habagat and Baguiong Karina Peninsulas.
00:04We will talk to Director Edgar Posadas, spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense.
00:09Director Posadas, good evening. This is PR Kanghel.
00:12Good evening, PS. Good evening to all the viewers and listeners of your program, ma'am.
00:18Director Posadas, how is your monitoring on the Habagat and Baguiong Karina Peninsulas?
00:23Do you have an estimate on how wide the Peninsulas are?
00:28Yes. This is a wide area, almost the whole of the Philippines.
00:33Aside from Baguio, the Habagat is also affected, especially on the western side.
00:48As of now ma'am, we have already recorded 686 barangays in almost all of the regions in the country.
01:00This is affecting 183,464 families or 882,861 individuals.
01:14As of now ma'am, we have a total of 90 evacuation centers catering to 8,230 families or 35,388 individuals.
01:26The number of our countrymen who were chosen to be burned by their relatives and friends is higher.
01:37But we are also monitoring their needs ma'am.
01:42Sir, today, did we have a problem with the evacuation?
01:46Because we know that there are some individuals who don't want to evacuate when it comes to this kind of situation.
01:54Yes. In our monitoring, it's not like before.
02:00Maybe, like your report earlier, I was listening, maybe they didn't expect that the effects are that big and the water level is rising fast.
02:12So basically, here in Metro Manila, that's what we focused on for the last three days now.
02:20That's our recommendation to suspend the classes tomorrow and the offices of the government.
02:34Because of the rise in the level of hope, basically, the rain will be like this tomorrow, although Karina will be released.
02:44But that's what's affecting us.
02:49Earlier, you mentioned that the President was here.
02:55In order to focus on the needs of our countrymen, we have elevated the alert level status of OC2 Red, along with other regional offices of OCD.
03:13Sir, in your monitoring of the effects of Karina and Habagat in our country, are there particular areas that need to be prioritized?
03:23Earlier, our President had his assessment, aside from Metro Manila, where Secretary Avalos recommended the DILG to put it in a state of calamity.
03:41They affirmed that when they had a meeting with the MMDA yesterday afternoon, after that meeting with the President.
03:47Basically, this Metro Manila plus this region of 4A, Calaparzon and Region 3, is what we are focusing on.
04:01We may recommend to put it in a state of calamity.
04:08But we will wait for the decision of the officials.
04:14Director, this is the last question. Do you have anything to remind our countrymen?
04:18Although the typhoon is about to come out, but according to the forecast, there are still chances of rain until Friday.
04:25Do you have anything to remind our countrymen?
04:28Yes. Thank you.
04:30To our countrymen, although the typhoon is about to come out, let's not be too confident because we can still feel the effects of the rain.
04:39They said that there are strong antecedent rainfalls.
04:43Right now, we are experiencing heavy rainfall in Metro Manila.
04:47Let's not be too confident. Our safety is a shared responsibility.
04:54Your government, your OCD and your Henry Mosey are here and on our highest alert to meet your needs.
05:08If we need to be alert, if we need to evacuate, let's do it.
05:17For your own good and safety.
05:21Once you are safe, you can keep your family safe and your community safe.
05:26Thank you very much ma'am.
05:28Director Edgar Posadas of the Office of Civil Defense. Thank you very much.
