00:24For this list, we're taking a look at trailers that seemed so full of promise, but the actual

00:37These snippets were designed to entice audiences to see the full film, but they just set us
00:41up for disappointment.
00:44While the movies themselves weren't necessarily terrible, we were definitely not as psyched

00:54Wild Wild West
01:06There's a shirtless Will Smith, there's Kevin Kline, there's apparently a soundtrack with
01:14Will trying to relive his glory days as a rapper.
01:25There's even steampunk-looking gadgetry that's enough to keep even the most ardent cosplayer
01:30interested.
01:35And while it seems that all of those features should have added up to at least a moderately
01:39interesting movie-going experience, it was really just uncomfortable viewing.
01:52And kind of embarrassing, even with the steampunk spider-thingy.

02:12The trailer does a good job of establishing the alien invasion premise without giving
02:17up too much.
02:31Clearly this was an invasion that was years in the making, and it's a global-scale assault.
02:37At least, that's how it's presented.
02:46We see bombs, we see machine-gun fire, we're treated to some heavy-duty artillery in this
02:50effort to combat alien forces.
02:52The special effects even look top-notch.
02:55The actual movie, not so much.

03:12Prometheus
03:25Fans of the Alien franchise were already amped at the idea of a prequel, especially since
03:32Ridley Scott was taking the helm as director.
03:34And honestly, who wouldn't want to see how the whole alien thing started?
03:38Much like its 1979 predecessor, the trailer boasts some impressive visuals, along with
03:43some genuinely creepy moments.
03:51Plus, there's Michael Fassbender, and Idris Elba, and Charlize Theron.
04:16But somehow, all of this awesomeness didn't translate to the feature.

04:44Episode I – The Phantom Menace
05:04Speaking of long-awaited prequels, this trailer alone sparked nerdgasms across the galaxy.
05:13The hearts of dedicated fans everywhere were all aflutter at the continuation of this epic
05:17tale through the prequel.
05:22Plus, there's Yoda and Obi-Wan, and little Anakin slash Darth Vader.
05:44The trailer assured us that the things we loved about Star Wars would make us love this
05:48prequel series as well.
05:58But oh, how we were deceived.

06:14Terminator Salvation
06:24According to the trailer, Judgment Day happened, and John Connor is in the middle of leading
06:28a resistance against the robots.
06:41It seems like an awesome payoff for the fans of the Terminator series, who wanted to see
06:45what all that fighting to save John Connor was about.
06:53Also, the special effects look fun.
07:12Unfortunately though, the most interesting thing about the film was probably Christian
07:17rant.

07:24Sucker Punch
07:39We're willing to overlook Carla Gugino's strangely-accented voiceover at the beginning,
07:44because the trailer looks amazing.
07:57Like a mix of 300 and Sin City in burlesque.
08:00And who doesn't want to see beautiful ladies kicking some major tail on a supernatural scale?
08:17The film seemed laden with potential, and it was wasted.
08:27It squandered on a crappy plot and horrible pacing.
08:36It could have been a contender.

08:42Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
09:03We know what to expect when it comes to Michael Bay films, but that doesn't mean we can't hope for greatness.
09:11Indeed, the trailer captures the best elements of the film.
09:14Really cool special effects, Megan Fox beauty shots, and Shia LaBeouf arguing with robots.
09:27That's pretty much it.
09:30We're not going to lie and say that the movie doesn't have its moments, but it seems that those moments are all captured in the entertaining trailer.

09:41Spider-Man 3
09:47Yeah, we see the Sandmen and the story with Harry and Mary Jane or whatever, but what fans really wanted to see was Venom.
09:56The trailer gave us a dark and tortured Spider-Man, as he struggles not to succumb to evil.
10:02He's got to navigate like 15 enemies in the trailer alone, including himself.
10:12But even with all of that, the movie was still sort of yawn-inducing.

10:27The Last Airbender
10:38This movie was on a collision course with disaster since the beginning, but the trailer still gave us a glimmer of hope.
10:50Honestly, some of the special effects looked kind of cool.
10:53There was a lot of bending of elements, along with the Avatar's signature arrow tattoo.
10:58In those few seconds of the trailer, audiences were allowed to believe that the film might stand a chance.
11:04Unfortunately, it was a catastrophe.

11:09The Last Airbender
11:22Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:37A date which will live in infamy.
11:42The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the Empire of Japan.
11:57Welcome back. See you've met the munchkin.
11:59Hello. Fearless reporter Lois Lane is a mommy.
12:02But if you ask me, she's still in love with you-know-who.
12:05Does he still stand for truth, justice, all that stuff?
12:10What am I supposed to do?

12:25Make it there alive, and he'll find you.

12:28Godzilla
12:29Hey, Joe, gonna catch one of them little fish in the East River?
12:32I hope so.
12:34Audiences may have been expecting something really awesome and epic based on this trailer.
12:43Somehow, an elderly fisherman manages to muster up the speed to escape Godzilla's emergence from the sea.
13:04That alone is worth a viewing.
13:07Audiences are given just enough action, including a peek at a Godzilla eyeball,
13:12to keep us from realizing how truly awful the movie is.
13:15By the way, Dr. Craven, have you met the worm guy?
13:20Sorry, summer cold.
13:22Because we know if the trailer had been filled with Matthew Broderick and his beret,
13:26it just wouldn't have pulled in the numbers.
