00:00United States of America, USA Secret Service Director, Kimberly Chito has resigned following
00:05failed attempt to assassinate former U.S. President, Donald Trump who is currently
00:08seeking re-election as Republican presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections
00:12in the country. Kimberly Chito who on Monday appeared before a panel of investigations set
00:17up by the USA lawmakers over her job functions in relations to the failed assassination attempt
00:21of the former president first allot of condemnations from lawmakers with some calling
00:24for her immediate impeachment. The U.S. Secret Service Director, Kimberly Chito submitted her
00:29resignation on Tuesday according to sources cited by CNN. Lawmakers from both parties
00:34called for her resignation and some Republican lawmakers initiated impeachment proceedings.
00:38Chito's testimony before the House Oversight Committee on Monday was met with criticism
00:42as she declined to answer several questions posed by the committee. During her testimony before the
00:47House Oversight Committee, U.S. Secret Service Director, Kimberly Chito recognized that there
00:51were substantial issues with security at the rally describing them as significant and colossal.
00:57However, she did not appear to cause for her resignation.
01:00I think I am the best person to leave the Secret Service at this time,
01:03Chito said Monday. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson described her resignation as
01:09overdue, emphasizing the need to move forward. We have to rebuild the American people's faith
01:13and trust in the Secret Service as an agency. It has an incredibly important responsibility
01:18in protecting presidents, former presidents and other officials in the executive branch
01:23and we've got a lot of work to do, he said. Following the shooting, Director Kimberly Chito
01:28initially indicated that she had no intention of resigning. Chito was appointed by President
01:32Joe Biden to help the Secret Service in 2022. A gunman identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew
01:38Crooks, 20, of Metal Park, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13, attempted to assassinate
01:44Donald Trump during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman from the rooftop fired
01:48some gunshots which injured Trump in one game before he, the shooter, was shot dead by the
01:52Secret Service. There have been speculations that the Secret Service sniper, whom among other
01:57colleagues were in another rooftop, sighted the gunman early enough but was asked not to shoot.
02:01These speculations widely circulated among the American public, suggested and pointed more
02:05accusing fingers to the Director of the Secret Service. On Monday, shortly after arrived the
02:09Congress building, while making entrance, some protesters could be heard accusing her of trying
02:14to kill Donald Trump. She looked not disturbed by the accusations from the protesting Americans as
02:19she walked into the Congress building after exchanging pleasantries with some of the
02:22security operatives around the building.
02:44Do you have a timeline that you, do you have a timeline at all from any of the day?
02:50I have a timeline that does not have specifics.
02:56That's shocking. That is absolutely unacceptable. That means you are a failure at your job.
03:04Gentleman yields back. Chair now recognizes Mr. Fallon from Texas.
03:08How did a 20-year-old loner with a week's notice
03:12pick the absolute best location to assassinate President Trump when the entire Secret Service
03:17missed it? Director Cheadle, in your leadership, your agency got outsmarted and outmaneuvered by
03:21a 20-year-old. How can we have any confidence that you could stop a trained professional
03:26from a nefarious nation state?
03:30Those are absolutely questions that we need to have.
03:32I know they're questions, but you know the fact of the matter is we can't have that confidence.
03:36Director, do you have the ability personally, do you have the authority to beef up security
03:40of any of your protectees? Yes, I do.
03:43Okay. So were you also aware there was a credible threat
03:47President Trump was facing? He was facing a heightened security threat to a foreign adversary?
03:52Yes. Okay. So given that there was an
03:56increased threat to President Trump's life, was he provided a full security complement akin to
03:59what a sitting U.S. president would receive? He was provided a full complement of security.
04:06Based on the threat assessment that we had. That's not my question.
04:10And the venue. My question is, if he'd been the sitting
04:12president, would he have had the same security he had on July 13th or would have been beefed up?
04:17There is a difference between the sitting president.
04:19So your answer is he didn't. And continuity of government and
04:23the responsibility that we have. So he did not.
04:24Okay. There wasn't a CAT team, a full CAT team on site.
04:27There wasn't counter surveillance teams on site. But this is the thing.
04:31You just said you have the ability to beef up the security.
04:34You knew about the threat and you didn't. And that's as telling as it is chilling.
04:40We have satellite images from the Butler Fairgrounds. Have you visited the site?
04:44No, I have not. Nine days and you have not visited the site.
04:48You should have been there that night. Did you talk to, that evening, did you talk to the team,
04:53the heroes that surrounded the president? Did you call them that night?
04:57They were still operational working. So that's it, the answer is no.
04:59Did you call them the next day? Yes, I spoke with them.
05:01You called them the very next day, not the day of, or was it 72 hours after?
05:06I don't know the timeline, but I spoke with them immediately following.
05:09I think it was 72 hours after you waited three days.
05:12What is immediately clear is that there are a number of structures that need to be secured.
05:16Of these, Director, other than the first, you know, immediate four,
05:19what's the most dangerous site that should have been secured?
05:22Because you know, security 101, you've got to mitigate the high ground.
05:26Yes.
05:27Okay. Do you know what the next most dangerous site,
05:30what was the closest structure to the president,
05:32other than the four immediate ones that you had your counter-sniper teams on?
05:37There are a number of structures around that event site.
05:40You know who the shooter knew? The shooter has visited the site two more times than you have,
05:44and he had a drone, and he picked the AGR building.
05:48So you said, do you remember in an ABC interview you did that you didn't have people
05:52on the roof of the AGR building because you were worried about safety because of the slope?
05:57I recall that statement.
06:00Does the Secret Service have written policy you can share with us about slope roofs?
06:05No.
06:06Okay. So why did you act like there was one?
06:08Because isn't your practice to comment on enormous
06:12events of enormous national implications when you're ignorant of the facts?
06:17That's rhetorical.
06:18So here's the thing with the slopes.
06:20You go all the way up to like 1812, you can go to 112,
06:23which is about as flat as you can get without it being completely flat.
06:27And you're saying that there was a danger, a safety concern there.
06:31But the problem is, Director, you put your counter snipers on a 312 roof,
06:35which is steeper than the 112.
06:37And by the way, the 112 is ADA compliant.
06:39You can build a ramp for a wheelchair on a 112 roof.
06:45So these are nothing but pathetic excuses, and they make no sense,
06:48and they're a bunch of cow dung.
06:50All the law enforcement I've spoken with over the last nine days
06:53are amazed that the AGR rooftop was not secure.
06:56And you want to know why?
06:57Because it's dangerous.
06:59I have never had any long gun training in my life.
07:03I own an AR-15, and last time I shot it, I shot it one time my whole life.
07:06It was six years ago.
07:07That is until Saturday, where we recreated the events in Savoy, Texas.
07:11We recreated what happened in Butler.
07:13I was lying prone on a sloped roof at 130 yards at 630 at night.
07:18And I knew that he had a scope.
07:19I didn't know what kind, red dot, or magnified.
07:21So I shot eight rounds from both.
07:23You know what the result was?
07:2515 out of 16 kill shots.
07:27And the one I missed would have hit the president's ear.
07:30That's a 94% success rate.
07:33And that shooter was a better shot than me.
07:36It is a miracle President Trump wasn't killed.
07:40Corey, compared to Torrey's life, is over because that damn shooter made it on the roof.
07:44And it wasn't the roof that was dangerous.
07:45It was the nut job on top of the roof.
07:47You know what else is dangerous?
07:49I believe your horrifying ineptitude and your lack of skilled leadership is a disgrace.
07:53Your obfuscating today is shameful.
07:55And you should be fired immediately and go back to garden Doritos.
07:58Mr. Chairman, I yield back.
