00:00Following the declaration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. of a total POGO ban on his third State of the Nation address,
00:10House Speaker Martin Romualdez ordered the Camera to prioritize the passing of a Unified Version or Substitute Bill
00:18that will strengthen the suspension of all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators or POGO operations in the country.
00:25In a joint hearing of the House Committee on Public Order and Safety and the Committee on Games and Amusements,
00:30House Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Don Gonzales, Jr. announced the House Speaker's Directive.
00:36He clarified that even if there is a POGO ban, the hearing of the crimes committed by POGO will continue
00:43so that the contents and those that should be answered in the law will be discussed.
00:47We have to ensure that the POGO operators will not just result to guerrilla operators
00:54or go undercover. The law must be crafted with ironclad provisions to prevent a resurrection of these criminal and illegal activities.
01:07This was supported by the Pagcor Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tenco and Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission under Secretary Gilbert Cruz.
01:16We strongly support this ban because at least we were given justice and the government is showing that we are facing these problems.
01:31Implementing the President's Directive is not that easy.
01:37But like what I've said in the Senate and Congress, I will support and follow whatever President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has ordered.
01:48According to the House Committee on Ways and Means Chair Joey Salceda,
01:52he is confident that Pagcor Chairman Tenco will fulfill the President's Directive.
01:57Even though it will be affected by the government, they are working to find alternative sources for this.
02:04You know, if it's like this, it will be an opportunity.
02:07It's funny because we already have a basis to pursue other ways.
02:11The measures that will be fulfilled by the POGO will be in the Senate.
02:19If Senator-Secretary Arsenio Balisacan will ask, he supports the President's Directive.
02:25The losses to our GDP is in the order of 1 percent.
02:30So the benefits of banning POGOs outweigh the cost.
02:36I would like to see, the President would like to see legitimate businesses,
02:41businesses that give good reputation to our country as investment destination,
02:46as tourist destination, not ones that encourage criminalities.
02:51Even if Finance-Secretary Ralph Recto becomes the President,
02:53I believe that the total POGO ban will not affect our economy.
02:58Instead, it will help the government in general.
03:02The government will decide what will be good for our countrymen.
03:07That is their priority.
