00:00Here we go then, green lights at the back of the grid, there's 19 cars on it and we're all set for the second half of the season.
00:07The Hungarian Grand Prix, it's lights out and away we go and Lando Norris gets a brilliant start and already cuts off his teammate Oskar Piastri.
00:14Verstappen is following in the slipstream, there's three cars going abreast into Turn 1.
00:19You've got the Mercedes on the inside of Lewis Hamilton as Verstappen goes wide and into the lead goes Oskar Piastri.
00:26Verstappen joins in second place ahead then of Lando Norris who's down now into fourth and being challenged by Charles Leclerc around the outside of Carlos Sainz
00:35comes Fernando Alonso and it's Leclerc in the lead but not the one that was on pole.
00:40Max has to give the position, we're on it.
00:43And Max on the radio saying he pushed me off, I was pushed off, we'll see what's decided about that but what a great start then for Oskar Piastri
00:52who leads the Hungarian Grand Prix from Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
00:57I got pushed off, I was ahead at the apex and he just opened the wheel and I got pushed off.
01:02Understood Max.
01:04Max, the incident is under investigation, I think our recommendation is you let this go, we can talk about it later.
01:10If you let Lando past, down to Turn 1.
01:14Oh my god, they don't just say what they think and then we decide that's the ****.
01:20And sorry Crofty, he's letting him past, he is letting him past, the recommendation came from Giampiero Lambiassi,
01:27his race engineer Verstappen has complied, given that second place back, Lando Norris moves into the top two.
01:33Okay, so you can just drag people off the track then.
01:38Then you can tell the FIA that's how we're going to race from now onwards, just drag people off the road.
01:45He is desperate to try and get past Lando Norris and using an aggressive style to try and do that.
01:52Not unfair, just aggressive. Right, here's the start, Norris tries to cut off his teammate, gets a great getaway,
01:58but then Piastri is there and he has to back out.
02:00And then Verstappen's got the ideal, the optimum racing line down the outside and tries to take it around there.
02:07I mean, there is no way that Norris was able to, was turning into him.
02:13I wondered if there was also an argument whether Hamilton had been disadvantaged by that, but I don't believe it is, he was.
02:19Yeah, he did well, Lewis, to back out before any contact was made.
02:22We're riding on board with Lando Norris, let's see what it looks like from his point of view and perspective.
02:29He can't go any further right.
02:33That's the right call, that's the right call by the team.
02:37Yeah.
02:38I mean, Lando left Max as much space as he possibly could there.
02:42He did, and what helped enormously then is because Max and Lewis got together towards the outside of Turn 2,
02:49it at least allowed Norris to be behind him on the racetrack, otherwise he'd have had to let Hamilton through as well.
02:57Gotta say, super move by Oscar Piastri as they come back onto the track.
03:01Albon right behind now, Fernando Alonso, there's Daniel Ricciardo with Kevin Magnussen going around the outside of it.
03:08That's why they're pitting, Magnussen have pitted before, and that shows you the power of the undercut, he's ahead now of Daniel Ricciardo.
03:15Yeah, as Ricciardo has to get his tyres up to full temperature, especially the hard compound tyres, inevitably a little bit more difficult to bring up to speed.
03:22And I'm just wondering if that Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton is a bit more compliant on those rear tyres, and that's what's keeping him in touch with Max Verstappen,
03:31where Verstappen's losing touch a little bit to Lando Norris.
03:33What was the problem here? Left a bit slow going off?
03:37And Sunoda has got Lewis Hamilton right behind him. Hamilton's going to make the move on Sunoda, fresher rubber, easily done, Hamilton moves up into 6th place.
03:46I can't brake, I can't enter corners, front end rear is just really bad.
03:51Copy that, Max.
03:54It sounds like he's not enjoying himself this afternoon, Max Verstappen.
03:58Out of the pits comes Charles Leclerc, down the main straight comes Yuki Sunoda, nicely done by the Ferrari crew.
04:05He is ahead of Sunoda, he's 5th, and there is Carlos Sainz getting past Sergio Perez, who you rightly said, Martin, wasn't going to hold the Ferrari up.
04:12Meanwhile, here's Carlos Sainz, this is his move on George Russell that we could see up ahead, and Russell, I don't think, was fighting that one too hard.
04:20That's not his race.
04:21It's not his race, and well, he hasn't really got a race, has he now?
04:25He has not been able to get through the midfield pack, they stayed out much longer than expected.
04:31It's a mark of Aston Martin falling away, and Haas very much improving under Ayokamatsu,
04:38as Hülkenberg locks up and makes the job a little easier this time around for Fernando Alonso,
04:44and instantly finds himself under pressure from Alonso's teammate, Lance Stroll, who's got DRS,
04:49and was thinking about diving down the inside there to rub Hülkenberg of two places in two corners.
04:54Just weren't right for him, and that's kind of how it's playing out, as Alonso tries to make a move on Gasly,
05:00and his teammate, Lance Stroll, does make a move on Nico Hülkenberg.
05:05These overtakes all being aided by different tyre strategies.
05:09When he went out, he started pumping in fastest laps.
05:13Perez, on the move, on the charge, on the straights, and getting past Kevin Magnussen,
05:19up into 12th place for Sergio Perez.
05:22Magnussen will try and fight that on the run down to Turn 2 for the Red Bulls ahead,
05:26as Lewis Hamilton, currently in third place, is looking in his mirrors to the left to see where Max Verstappen is.
05:32Verstappen's right behind him, chasing him down into Turn 1.
05:35Hamilton cuts him off, locks up into the bargain, goes wide.
05:39This is going to give Verstappen now, with a better exit from Turn 1,
05:43all the opportunity to dance around the outside into Turn 2,
05:47and that's exactly what Max Verstappen does before he then goes wide,
05:51and Hamilton regains that third place.
05:54Did Verstappen get on the marbles, and did that then cost him the chance to stay ahead?
05:59So here we go, Lewis covers him off, turns into the apex.
06:02As soon as he put any steering lock in, he locked his inside front wheel.
06:06That so often happens.
06:08Verstappen will have DRS.
06:10He's going to sail down the outside on the optimum racing line,
06:13but he carries too much speed into the corner.
06:16It's really dirty out there, and Lewis Hamilton lives for another day in third place.
06:22A minus-five day, guys, and it takes his chance in third.
06:26It's unbelievable.
06:29But with Hamilton and Verstappen scrapping, it's giving McLaren a bit of breathing space.
06:34Just watch Nico Hülkenberg here, overtaking Joe Guagnier down the straight into Turn 1.
06:40Nothing doing.
06:41So we move now down towards Turn 2.
06:44More DRS for Verstappen, gets a good exit.
06:48Hamilton's using some charge from his ERS system to stay ahead.
06:52He's staying ahead by less than the car length, going through Turn 2.
06:56Stays ahead through Turn 3 as well.
06:58Verstappen is closer now than he has been before,
07:01and still being that close, can't quite get the room to make a move into Turn 4.
07:06And what are we going to see here?
07:09This is our race leader.
07:13Ah, you see, yeah, he backed it in, and that's what we were talking about earlier on.
07:17I think that's when he had that horrible 125.8 lap, and his tyres got dirty.
07:22It's quite impressive how he let us have good undercut at this completely ****** race.
07:30This was Lando Norris locking up as he came out of the pits into Turn 1.
07:34That won't do the inside right any good.
07:36No, but it's unloaded, and he got off the pedal.
07:38He got off the brake pedal, but he's flying in the middle sector.
07:41Oscar has had the radio message again to say, don't worry about Lando.
07:46So, this is a little bit slow on the front right.
07:49Ah, it's a bit slower than Lando's stop.
07:51Lando will take the lead.
07:53Oscar's been told, don't worry about Lando.
07:55But that's easy for McLaren to say.
07:59Well, that's the plan.
08:00And plans don't always get executed, but there goes Lando Norris
08:05into a place ahead of his teammate, Oscar Piastri.
08:09OK, Lando, Oscar has just pitted.
08:12He will likely come out just behind you.
08:14We'd like to re-establish the order at your convenience.
08:21Oh, he's wide.
08:23Well, he's gone off to the gravel.
08:24New gravel trap on the outsider, Turn 12 there.
08:28Well, that's some gentle introduction.
08:31Don't give me that ****** now.
08:33You guys give me this ****** strategy, OK?
08:35I'm trying to rescue myself.
08:39Nah, he's been told to go out and not take too much out of the tyres.
08:43And he's obviously decided to ignore that.
08:46And Giampera Lambiezzi there is taking quite a bit of stick today, isn't he?
08:51Yeah, he is.
08:52For his World Championship leading driver, Max.
08:55And Lando, we still think you're using the tyres too much.
08:57Turn 4, Turn 11 and the rear's at exit.
08:59Turn 6, Turn 9.
09:01Oscar's 3.5.
09:03I know you'll do the right thing.
09:06And I'm sure they're getting a bit twitchy at McLaren
09:09as to whether it's going to happen or not.
09:11As we watch, Max Verstappen and his move there on Charles Leclerc.
09:16Just going to put into your mind, Martin,
09:18Oscar Piastri's manager, Mark Webber,
09:20knows a thing or two about team orders not being followed through.
09:23Multi 21, anybody?
09:25Yeah.
09:26Turn 4, Turn 11.
09:28It's going to get boring.
09:32I don't think Lando Norris cares about that, quite frankly.
09:34He could get as boring as he wants.
09:36He's gone a little bit tone deaf to that particular conversation.
09:41OK, Lando, 10 laps to go.
09:42We think both cars are using their tyres too much.
09:45Just remember, every single Sunday morning meeting we have.
09:52And now they're getting into the emotions here.
09:55You want this guy to be your teammate.
09:59You need to move over and let him pass.
10:02Otherwise, you're going to have to look him squarely in the eye
10:05when you've cost him victory.
10:07That's the message behind that radio.
10:09The 1-2-3 still up for grabs, though,
10:11in terms of the third place of Lewis Hamilton.
10:14Still holding on to that third spot
10:17on what will be a 200th career podium.
10:19But Max Verstappen is going to try and get him into Turn 2
10:21and snatch that podium position away from him.
10:24Verstappen tries to go around the outside.
10:25He's going the long way round.
10:26He's got just enough room to stay on the track.
10:28Lewis Hamilton stays ahead.
10:30And Verstappen loses just a bit of ground
10:32as he gets his foot down out of Turn 2.
10:34And we can see, I think, from the onboard of Verstappen here,
10:37just how much racing room there was, Martin.
10:40Yeah, so Verstappen's got DRS.
10:42That's why he's pulling alongside.
10:43He left a car's lip. That's fine.
10:45Did you leave the car's lip?
10:47I think you were behind at the apex, Max.
10:50OK, whatever, then.
10:51It's about where your front axle is.
10:54When you're going around the outside,
10:55your front axle has to be at least level with
10:58or ahead of the other driver's mirror,
11:01is what the regulations say.
11:03Here we go again, then.
11:04And you can see Verstappen closing, closing, closing
11:06under braking, he's going to force his way
11:08and hits Lewis Hamilton, who breaks.
11:12Watch Verstappen come steaming down the inside
11:14and watch Verstappen take himself out of that battle.
11:19And he's lost place.
11:20He's been passed by Charles Leclerc as well.
11:22Lando, he can't catch you up.
11:24You've proved your point and it really doesn't matter.
11:26He's unmotivated.
11:28My treasure, he's still there.
11:32I mean, I would have tried to run Leclerc anyway.
11:35If I didn't, I would have gone off.
11:37Mate, we did the stop sequence in this order
11:39for the good of the team.
11:41Yeah, I'm sorry for the time it took.
11:44OK, I'm trying to protect you, mate.
11:47I promise, I'm trying to protect you.
11:51This is turning into a discussion over the team radio
11:53that McLaren probably do not want.
11:55Meanwhile, this has been noted by race control.
11:57Verstappen steaming down the inside.
11:59That could have been Verstappen out of this race
12:03and could have been Verstappen injured
12:05because that went a long way up into the air.
12:07Yeah, well, if that's anybody's fault, that's Max's fault.
12:10So there's no recriminations there because he didn't move the steering, mate.
12:18Copy, mate.
12:19So that was Verstappen.
12:20He arrived out of control into that one.
12:22Absolutely right.
12:23I think there's a penalty coming Max Verstappen's way
12:25for causing a collusion there.
12:27It's been noted, Martin,
12:28but I don't see how that isn't causing a collusion.
12:30He moved up the braking.
12:33I'm not even going to get into a radio fight with the other teams, Max.
12:36We'll let the stewards do their thing.
12:38It's childish on the radio. Childish.
12:41Five laps to go of a very eventful Hungarian Grand Prix.
12:46What a way to kickstart the second half of the season.
12:51And for McLaren, that 1-2 in the Constructors' Championship.
12:55And then there are five laps to go.
12:57The way to win a championship is not by yourself.
13:00It's with the team.
13:01You're going to need Oskar and you're going to need the team.
13:05This is extraordinary, isn't it?
13:07We leave this to risk our kids.
13:10Understood, Oskar. We're managing it.
13:14Finally, we hear from Oskar Piazza.
13:16I'm just wondering what Lando's trying to prove here.
13:18Is he trying to prove that without Oskar gaining the lead at the start,
13:21he would have won the race?
13:21Is he trying to prove that he's not too nice?
13:24Ted, he is trying to prove that he is a team player.
13:28He's slow. He's very slow.
13:29He's slow now.
13:30Three laps to go.
13:32Oskar Piastri can see Lando Norris going very slowly down the straight.
13:37Oskar Piastri takes the lead of this race.
13:41And that was the right thing to do.
13:44Well done, eventually, Lando Norris.
13:47Yeah, you don't need to say anything.
13:49And Oskar Piastri now has two more corners to go
13:53to do something that he dreamed of as a young child growing up in Melbourne.
13:58And in his second season in Formula One, has finally come to pass.
14:03It is Oskar Piastri, Grand Prix winner, winner in Hungary,
14:07and for the first time, takes the chequered flag
14:10and will stand on the top step of a Grand Prix podium.
14:14It's a McLaren 1-2 as we start the second half of the season.
14:18They're the big chasers to Red Bull.
14:20It's Lewis Hamilton for third and a 200th career podium in Formula One.
14:26And behind them, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen,
14:30who will go and see the stewards and answer the charges of causing a collision.
14:35Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, George Russell, Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll.
14:40McLaren, a 1-2 for the first time since 2021.
14:44It looks a very hard-fought 1-2 from the outside in a car that dominated all weekend.
14:50Well done, Oskar, well done.
14:52Checkered flag.
14:53Well done, buddy.
14:54Really good.
14:57Thank you, everyone.
14:58Thank you very much.
14:59Thanks for the coordination.
15:03Yeah, sorry.
15:04I made the swap a little bit more painful than it needed to be.
15:07But, yeah, thank you.
15:09Appreciate that.
15:10Well done. Maximum points.
15:13Really good weekend.
15:16Huh.
15:18First F1 win.
15:19Thank you, everyone.
15:19Thank you very much.
15:20Thanks.
15:22But had he got the service first, I think he would have,
15:25you know, he'd have been out front on the right piece of tarmac with Oskar Piastri.
15:31So we can hear from Bart all day long on that.
15:35It's a tremendous result for the team and one that's been on its way.
15:39Good 1-2, good load of points.
15:41Progress, team.
15:42Well deserved.
