00:21National media reports at least 100 people have died in the protests so far as police
00:26clash with demonstrators on the streets and at university campuses this week.
00:33The demonstrations are largely made up of students who are protesting against the quota
00:38system which reserves up to 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought
00:44in Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence.
00:50Critics argue the quota system is discriminatory and benefits supporters of Sheikh Hasina who
00:56is a Warmi League party led the independence movement.
01:02On Sunday the Supreme Court ordered 93% of government jobs to be allocated on a merit
