Global IT outage hits transport, banks and media

Airlines, banks, TV channels and other businesses across the world have been left scrambling by one of the biggest IT crashes in recent years, all caused by an update to an antivirus program. A combination of glitches affecting Microsoft Windows and cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused aviation officials in the US to temporarily ground all flights and the UK government to convene its emergency COBRA committee.

00:00It's unfortunate, it's everywhere, can't do much about it, just trying to get to my
00:26girlfriend in Brisbane, haven't seen her in a while, so maybe just book a new flight
00:31with Virgin if possible, gonna try my luck I guess.
00:34We were meant to fly out at 5 and then about 20 minutes ago we got the announcement that
00:41it was cancelled.
00:42So yeah, we've just been hanging around really with no information.
00:46I tried to call Jetstar as well to reschedule my flight but they said I couldn't reschedule
00:50it because I was already checked in.
00:53So yeah, we would have left ages ago.
01:23So there's actually two problems that are happening at the same time.
01:35One is with Microsoft's cloud services and then there's the problem with CrowdStrike.
01:42And as far as anyone can tell at the moment, it's just a coincidence that both of these
01:46are hitting at the same time, but it's probably the CrowdStrike problem that is causing the
01:51most damage.
01:53So yeah, it's just a coincidence that both of these are hitting at the same time.
