00:06That's how much fabric Malaysians threw away in 2021.

00:11To put it in perspective, that amount of fabric, which makes up 31% of the nation's total

00:16waste, is equivalent in weight to 43,290 empty MRT trains.

00:22And Cloth Circularity, which advocates for textile and fabric recycling, believes the

00:27reason why there is so much textile waste is due to the lack of fabric recycling bins.

00:32Malaysians are aware, but you know what's the problem?

00:36Accessibility to the recycling facility.

00:39Developed countries, I'll just give you an example.

00:41In France, for every 2,000 people in France, there would be one fabric bin.

00:48Co-founder Nik Suzila Hassan suggested placing the collection bins near residential areas,

00:53malls and petrol stations.

00:56Cloth Circularity is also doing its part in reducing fabric waste by organizing upcycling

01:01initiatives with Lifeline Clothing Malaysia.

01:03They came up with a lot of products whereby these products are mixed materials between

01:09denims and it can be from silk or cheongsam or sari and a lot of others, even batik.

01:16Batik is one of the most popular items that is mixed together with denims.

01:21Andrew Jackson, who leads Lifeline Clothing's business development, said Malaysians should

01:25give more thought to the materials being used to produce their clothes.

01:29I don't expect everybody in the world to turn around tomorrow and say, hey, okay, we're

01:34no longer going to buy fast fashion, we're only going to buy organic cotton clothes,

01:41for instance, or upcycled clothes.

01:43If we could just consider what we're buying and how we can make that difference, like

01:49personally, yeah, that would definitely make a big difference.
