00:05is exposed.
00:06A widespread Microsoft outage has disrupted flights, banks, media outlets and companies
00:12across the globe.
00:14Media broadcasters in Australia were restricted as they lost access to computer systems.
00:19If you're just joining us, let's recap where we are.
00:22This is special rolling coverage of this major tech outage which could well be the biggest
00:28outage the world has seen as a result of what may have been an update on the Microsoft
00:35system.
00:36Airlines in the UK, Europe and India grounded flights and reported delays and some New Zealand
00:41banks said they were offline.
00:45Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.
00:51Australian telecommunications firm Telstra suggested the outages were caused by global
00:56issues plaguing cyber security company CrowdStrike and its platform, Falcon.
01:02Thank you for contacting CrowdStrike support.
01:05CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows OS related to the Falcon sensor.
01:12CrowdStrike is a global cyber security and threat intelligence company and Falcon is
01:17what is known as an endpoint detection and response platform which monitors the computers
01:22that it is installed on to detect hacks and respond to them.
01:26The result of the outage disgruntled customers around the world.
01:31CrowdStrike says the outage was caused by a defect in a content update for Windows and
01:36not by a cyber attack.
