Nurse retires after five decades of dedicated service
Transcript
00:00I started in 1976 so that's 48 years ago now and before that I worked in
00:05Montgomery House for years as a ward orderly. So I've worked for the NHS for 49
00:10years. Well always from I was a wee girl I wanted to be a nurse that was all I
00:14ever wanted to do and couldn't wait to get started and I must admit over all
00:19the years I've absolutely thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. After retired
00:23from the Ulster Hospital my sister in the treatment room kept saying why do
00:27you not come in and work for us? Why do you not come in and work for us? So I
00:30eventually gave in, jumped in at that, something new, learned new skills and
00:36worked with her. Working with my sister has been great and in actual fact she was
00:40an inspiration for me to go and do my nursing which I started as a mature
00:43student in 2003 and then as part of my training I had a placement in ICU where
00:50she was sister so that was interesting just seeing how she worked and how
00:53colleagues respected her and you know were very fond of her. Just seeing the
00:57respect that she has for people and the fairness with which she treats people
01:00and it definitely in my role as sister in the treatment room has been
01:06an inspiration really to be able to take people's personal lives into account and
01:10to just be kind and fair and still get the job done for the trust.
01:16We've lived together for a wee while recently and didn't fight or argue, no it's
01:21been great. She was my student years ago whenever she was training she was a
01:25student in ICA and now the tables are turned and she's the boss here so I do
01:30what she tells me.
