Broken Turbine Blade Prompts Federal Government to Halt Operations at Vineyard Wind Project

A broken turbine blade from the Vineyard Wind project washed ashore on a beach in Nantucket, Massachusetts, prompting the federal government to order the wind farm operator to suspend operations temporarily. Vineyard Wind is working to recover debris, removing enough fiberglass fragments to fill six truckloads. New Jersey will provide $5 million for research projects studying the environmental impacts of planned wind farms, including effects on wildlife, fisheries, and habitats.
