I was sitting in the front of the Eye office, at the Optician's desk. I asked the Optician if I could record the Eye appt. meeting, and she said no. I go into the Optometrists office and ask the Optometrist, and she agreed to have me record the eye appt. meeting. The Optician whispered to the Optometrist in front of me and said: "I told her she can't record) The Optometrist made a look and kept and silent and didn't respond to her.)

00:00During our last discussion, I explained that the bifocals is not what I wanted and the little piece, the thing that's on the bottom, can I show you?
00:19Yeah.
00:20We discussed that this is not what I wanted. I wanted it to be like where I could see through the entire thing.
00:28And when I put these glasses on, the bottom half, if I tilt my eyes just not even a quarter of an inch, it's extreme eye strain, blurry vision.
00:40There's no way I could drive a vehicle and tilt my head because half of my eyeball is experiencing extreme blurriness, eye strain, and headache.
00:52So these are a defective pair of glasses.
00:55So my understanding was that you wanted something where you could see far away and up close.
01:01And to get to that end, we really need to do a multipocal lens, which is what this is.
01:09When you look through the top, it's to see far away.
01:12And then because you were seeing with the previous prescription, you were having a hard time reading.
01:16And so this is to alleviate the eye strain when you're reading.
01:21We discussed that I didn't want the little things on the bottom because if I tilt my eyes halfway, I'm experiencing extreme pain and blurriness and dizziness.
01:33So you said multifocals. She said the insurance doesn't cover it.
01:37Then trifocals would be the next step, not these bifocals.
01:41I told you repeatedly that these wouldn't work for me.
01:44And these are a defective pair because I can't go around all day long tilting my head down and looking halfway through.
01:54Half of my eyeball is experiencing extreme pain right now.
02:00So I'll tell you, a multifocal does encompass a bifocal.
02:05A multifocal is just a blanket for bifocals, trifocals, and progressive lenses.
02:11And I will tell you, a progressive lens, you have the same issue.
02:14If you're having a hard time seeing through the bottom part of the lens, it would be the same thing.
02:19When you look through the top part of the lens, it's to see the distance.
02:24I couldn't drive with these.
02:27I'm experiencing dizziness right now and extreme pain through these glasses right now, looking straight through like this.
02:36And if I look down, it's even worse.
02:38These glasses are defective. These were not what you had me try on.
02:43So you could have called me and told me that multifocals wasn't a part of my insurance.
02:48These are multifocals.
02:50Okay, the ones that you had me try on in the office last office were not these.
02:55They were not these.
02:56They actually are.
02:57So what I had you try, when I did the two lenses, I had you try this to see far away.
03:04And then what I did is I put on additional lenses so you could see the bottom.
03:07But we discussed that I was not going to have these little things on the bottom.
03:11Unfortunately, this is what your insurance covers.
03:14We're happy to give you your prescription.
03:16What about the trifocals?
03:18The trifocals, you'd have the same kind of issue.
03:20With the trifocals, there's still a line.
03:24So let me show you what a trifocal is.
03:29So this is just a single vision lens, which you had previously.
03:33A bifocal has a little inset, which is what that is.
03:37It's, again, a type of multifocal.
03:39So a multifocal is an umbrella term.
03:41A trifocal has another area up on top of that.
03:47It's just a non-functioning glass.
03:49So if we could try the next step, the trifocal?
03:52You're going to have even a harder time with that.
03:54I'm being completely honest.
03:57You're going to have a harder time with the trifocals.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Because the way they're measured with the trifocal is that that area with the line is a little bit higher.
04:08And so if you're having a hard time with the view, with the bifocal,
04:14that trifocal sits a little bit higher, and you'll have a harder time.
04:18I'm happy to give you your glasses prescription.
04:22That way, if you wanted the one without the line, you can take that prescription anywhere and get it filled.
04:30So what we had discussed in the last office meeting was that you don't want bifocals, you want multifocals.
04:46And you just kept going back and forth saying you want multifocals, not bifocals.
04:50You want multifocals.
04:52No, that is not what I said.
04:56What I said is that...
04:57And also, these glasses were too big for my head, and you said that we could get them smaller,
05:05and she said we couldn't get them smaller.
05:07Yeah, that frame does not come in a smaller size.
05:10So what if... so all heads... I mean, my head's small.
05:16What if someone with a huge head had to...
05:19This particular one.
05:20Frame.
05:21Yeah, this particular frame only comes...
05:22Frame size.
05:23We have others, but in that whole selection, this was the one that you picked.
05:28Okay, so...
05:32So we provided what we could.
05:34So in regards to when I put these glasses on, I would only be allowed to look from the top half.
05:41And if my eyes drifted down, I would see blurry, and I'd have experienced extreme pain.
05:47Is that normal and natural?
05:50So this is your first time wearing a bifocal lens, correct?
05:54Yeah.
05:55And even before that, this is your first time wearing glasses completely, correct?
06:00Yeah.
06:01I wore them six months, and it was in extreme pain, those six months with the lens you prescribed me previous.
06:07So the idea is with the bifocal, you said with your previous single-vision lens,
06:14you could see okay in the distance, but you were having a hard time with reading.
06:18And with the multifocal or the bifocal in this case, the goal is that when you look through the top, you can see far away.
06:25And then through the bottom, if you're looking through the bottom, it's going to be blurry far away.
06:30It's so that you can see your phone, see what you're writing a little bit more comfortably without that strain.
06:35And that's what we did when I put that lens in front of you.
06:39You said that you were able to read across.
06:41So how do I go and do cooking?
06:43I have to go like this when I'm cooking?
06:47Because when I'm cooking and I'm looking down at what I'm doing right now, everything is extremely blurry and I'm in pain.
06:54So I can't cook with these.
06:56I can't do any cooking.
06:57I have to take them off, right?
06:59You could actually, if you're cooking, you can look through the top.
07:02I can't because I'm seeing what I'm doing right now.
07:05My head would be slightly tilted at the counter, and I'm experiencing extreme pain and blurriness.
07:10So that's the thing with a bifocal or any kind of multifocal.
07:14You do have to change the way you move your head sometimes.
07:17That would be sometimes.
07:18That would be 24-7 chronically.
07:20And it's across the board.
07:21So it's a defective non-functioning lens.
07:24And I'm going to go to another office.
07:27Okay.
07:28And we're going to find out if this whole eight-month long experience with you is valid.
07:36So I'm happy to give you some names of doctors.
07:41Like I said, I know that you've been experiencing, you know, your TBI.
07:45And I did recommend you to see, like, a doctor who specialized in traumatic brain injuries.
07:51I'm happy to give you some names of doctors who deal with this on a D&D basis.
07:55I have to figure out how to get a pair of glasses that are functioning first before I think about going to a brain neurologist.
08:08So it's not a neurologist.
08:09It's a person who deals with glasses first.
08:11I know.
08:12I know.
08:13And at this point, I don't have the education of glasses that you do.
08:19So it's not really we've already discussed this several times.
08:22They're not going to prescribe me a functioning glass.
08:27I need to see an optometrist that will prescribe me a functioning piece of eyewear.
08:33Okay.
08:34That's all.
08:37All right.
08:38So if you, you know, by all means, seek another opinion.
08:45These glasses will keep on hand if in the future you decide.
08:48I took photographs of the glasses.
08:50I took any photocopies of the documents and all of the notes that you wrote down.
08:57And with the communication between me, you, and the administrator, everybody says a different story and a different thing this past eight months.
09:05So that's also going to be written down and notes are going to be taken.
09:10Okay.
09:11But like I said, I think for you, ideally, you should see an optometrist who deals with traumatic brain injuries
09:20because they write prescriptions specifically for your needs.
09:23So you didn't prescribe me glasses in regards to my brain injury?
09:27I prescribed it depending on what I found on that day.
09:30But if there are certain things that…
09:33Yeah, because I told you I had a traumatic brain injury?
09:35Yeah, I don't specialize in that, unfortunately.
09:37Okay.
09:38But, you know, so…
09:39So then why are you prescribing me glasses if you don't specialize in TBI?
09:43I prescribed it based off of the numbers that I found.
09:45And if they weren't meeting your needs, I apologize.
09:48But these are the numbers that worked in the office when the trial framed it for you.
09:52Okay.
09:53Well, like I said, I'm going to do what I have to do in order to figure out what happened to me this past eight months.
10:04Okay.
10:05Well, I hope that you find the care that you need and I apologize if, you know…
10:11Okay.
