The 900HP Custom Burnout Truck

BOASTING a twin-turbo engine with more than 900hp – ‘Filthy’ is the world’s first full custom-road registered burnout truck. Owner Michael Lake, from ‘Truckin Stainless’ in Brisbane, Australia, spent seven years working days and nights in his shed to perfect his latest burnout model. A ‘burnout’ is the practice of keeping a vehicle stationary whilst spinning its wheels, causing the tyres to heat up and smoke due to friction. Michael, 42, built ‘Filthy’ specifically for the entertainment of burning out to crowds across Australia, but he also made sure to produce a vehicle that was practical and street-legal for his own pleasure.

00:00I own trucks, live trucks, breathe trucks, and it's been my whole life so far.
00:06This is filthy, a burnt out truck, heaps of smoke.
00:14Yep, I'm Michael Lake, owner of Truckin' Stainless here in Brisbane, Australia.
00:32This is my truck that I've built for burnouts.
00:50It's got a 28 litre Cummins, that's a white 4000, 75 model, it's got twin turbos, all custom made.
00:58My passion for trucks has been since I was a young boy, I was a truck driver most of my life.
01:04I just had enough of it, wanted to get out of it, try something different.
01:09So we started at home, built it up from home, gone from there.
01:14I drew pictures of it when I first started building it and just sort of went from there.
01:20It's pretty much what it looks like on the picture, it's one of a kind.
01:28Started with a set of diffs, put the motor and box in place, streamlined it on my concrete and we started building the truck from there.
01:47Yeah, it's all pretty much all custom.
01:50The build's taken seven years, we go from starting with a cab that was rusted out to putting it all together.
01:58Just every night pretty much, yeah, after I'd finish work I'd just go out there and just start working on that until I had enough and then go back up inside and then get up and do it all over again.
02:08It's a bit of an old school look that we've done.
02:11We've got a lift up bumper, it all tilts out and lifts up so I can get over speed bumps and what not.
02:18That's our custom grill, we've manufactured and all done here in-house.
02:23You see these gauges, they've all got our own custom truck and stainless logo in them.
02:28That's a pretty cool little feature we've got.
02:31It looks pretty good at night too, it'll all light up.
02:34Up here we've got our front brakes, so we'll hold them down to do a burnout and we'll hold them down until we're done.
02:49The hardest part would be to...
02:53I was originally marrying the box and the motor up.
02:56Other than that, yeah, we just worked on it until we got it, until we worked it out.
03:00A bit of a feature would be, I reckon, would be the grill.
03:03I definitely like the front look of it.
03:05It's definitely in your face.
03:07Our custom steering wheel here with a quick release.
03:10I've got the Transformer logo over here because everyone reckons it's a bit of a bumblebee.
03:15The whole building process, probably, I wouldn't have put a price to it, but yeah, probably $50,000.
03:22The engine is a V12 1710 Cummins, 28 litre.
03:27It's rated at 900 horsepower and 4,000 foot-pound of torque.
03:31They can go to like 2,300 horsepower or four turbos.
03:36That's really cracking.
03:38Nah, I don't think I'd ever sell it.
03:40It's just part of the family now.
03:42My friends are a bit jealous of Filthy.
03:45It's all good.
03:46I get to take them for a run around the block and they soon change their mind.
03:49This truck is outstanding.
03:52Like, I really think it's beyond words.
03:55It's the best truck, unless you're out there in Australia, for sure.
03:58Yeah, I'm proud of the truck we built, all the work we've done to it and all the customisation.
04:04One of a kind, kind of a truck.
04:07It's definitely different.
04:09Definitely proud of it.
