00:00Charlie, let's start with the big news of the day. Justin Thomas, three under par, stands
00:07alone the top of the leaderboard at this moment, firing an opening round 68. Donnie and I,
00:13I'm not sure if you heard us as we were breaking things down, looking at those live odds. JT
00:18right now is a minus 115 price to be around one leader. Donnie and I both think that's
00:25a good bet with the four guys behind him at two under par already in the clubhouse
00:29as well in the afternoon conditions looking like a Scottish summer, a ton of wind and
00:36some rain picking up at Troon. What did you make of JT's opening round? What do you think
00:41the rest of the first round holds for JT to maybe wake up tomorrow as your round one leader?
00:46Yeah, I did hear you all discussing that. I also heard about your stint as a rogue video
00:51editor on golf magazine, which I'd love to dive. That sounds like fun. I love, I love
00:57that, that I can't believe I really liked JT so much coming in the week and I can't
01:02believe I let it smile. He didn't talk me off it, but it was just looking at looking
01:07at last week. He opened with, I think it was either a 61 or a 62 at the Renaissance club
01:12for the Scottish open. And this is a guy who is when he's on his a game is one of the best
01:18win players in the world. Like if we go back to the players championship, I want to say
01:21it was 2021 or 2022. It's a shot that is still seared into my memory in the howling wind
01:27at TPC sawgrass. He's got like a 200 yard shot and like feathers of five wood in there
01:33to a few feet. And, and it finishes one of the only guys without a bogey on his card
01:38that day. So this guy, he can, he can draw the ball. He can cut the ball. He can do everything
01:42that you need to do playing in these sort of conditions to succeed and shoot a score.
01:46The hangup for Justin has been the putter for a long, long time. And it's actually,
01:51it's not like he necessarily puts a bad stroke. All the ball is missing the hole. It's just,
01:55he, it, a lot of times it's like, he doesn't get the speed, right. Or it doesn't get the
01:59read, right. And so you have a lot of putts that are, he needs a par save and he can't
02:03make it, or he really needs a birdie to get a little bit deeper and he can't buy that.
02:07And then you kind of end up with the sort of middle of the round road. And when his
02:09ball striking isn't good, that's where you get the really bad rounds. We've seen the
02:13past couple of years of majors. He has just switched to, I think it's like the newest
02:17version of the Scotty Cameron phantom putter. He was in a blade for a little while. He went
02:22from, he went from mallet to blade back to mallet and he is rolling this thing. Great.
02:27Like I know it's really, really early in the tournament right now. So the, the, the numbers
02:30are going to move, but he's gained three strokes on the field putting in this first round.
02:35So if he continues to put like he did in that first round, the Scottish open and like he
02:39did today, not only do I like him finishing as a first round leader, I think this is a
02:43guy that, you know, he's got the pedigree. He could, he could win this tournament. He
02:46keeps playing like this.
