00:02:14What?
00:02:19You'd have to kill me to get this jacket off.
00:02:26Flocking kid, huh?
00:02:30I'll get him to stay down.
00:02:50Is this your fucking bike, asshole?
00:02:59Oh shit, Henry!
00:03:07I've had nothing but trouble since I met Benny.
00:03:14I've seen more jails, I've been to more courts, I've met more lawyers.
00:03:18I mean, it can't be love. It must just be stupidity.
00:03:28And then they said it's for the kids. You know, everybody should bring their kids.
00:03:40They bring the kids and all the husbands are stoned, the wives, you know, are bitching at the husband.
00:03:45I don't think it's good to bring the kids.
00:03:46Huh?
00:03:47I don't think it's good to bring the kids.
00:03:48Yeah.
00:03:49Especially when the guy's a drinker.
00:03:50Well, you know, Johnny says a family picnic, his kids, whatever, too.
00:03:53Yeah, but he didn't get stoned out of his mind either.
00:03:55No, but then, dingy, last year, I didn't know any of them people there either, you know?
00:04:00Kathy, remember once when you were telling me about, you know, when you first met the guys?
00:04:04Yeah.
00:04:05And how you, uh...
00:04:06Well, I changed. I have.
00:04:08Why? Why don't you talk to me about that?
00:04:10Well, in a year, I mean, last year, what, from the beginning?
00:04:13Last year, my girlfriend called me up and she asked me to come down to Grand and Division.
00:04:17She needed some money.
00:04:19And she said it was a bar.
00:04:21And she said that the guys were having a meeting there.
00:04:24Well, I didn't know the guys or anything, so I went there.
00:04:27And I never felt so out of place in all my life.
00:04:33I walked in there, and I had white Levi's on.
00:04:36I had a sweater on, you know?
00:04:38And I looked, and the first guy I seen was quirky.
00:04:40Hey, you're beautiful.
00:04:42You need a man?
00:04:45Hey, nice talking to you.
00:04:47I mean, I seen them all, with earrings hanging out of their ears, bellybuttons showing, you know, like half-naked.
00:04:52I mean, to me, they was, like, half-naked, you know?
00:04:54I mean, of course, I didn't know them yet, but there was quirky, zip-co, cow-wahoo, brucey.
00:04:59You know, I seen them all.
00:05:01They're all hooting and hollering.
00:05:03I mean, they scared the living shit out of me.
00:05:05So I sees my girlfriend, and I goes over by her, and I sits down there.
00:05:08And I'm taking everything in.
00:05:12Here. You're the best.
00:05:14No, I gotta go.
00:05:15He's got here.
00:05:16That's Cockroach.
00:05:18What?
00:05:19They call me Cockroach.
00:05:20Why do they call you a stupid name like that?
00:05:22Because I like to eat bugs, you know?
00:05:24Like a gag.
00:05:25But I do, I mean, like to eat them.
00:05:27Bugs, you know.
00:05:28Well, that's disgusting.
00:05:29I gotta go.
00:05:30Hey, they're not that bad.
00:05:31Just sit here for a minute.
00:05:33Hey, there.
00:05:36You want to come live with me?
00:05:38What about me?
00:05:39You want to go out?
00:05:40No, thank you.
00:05:43Oh, I have a date.
00:05:44A date?
00:05:45Yeah, 12 o'clock.
00:05:46I have to get home.
00:05:47No, you're that Cockroach.
00:05:49Cinderella's got a date.
00:05:50Yeah, Cinderella's got a date at 12 o'clock.
00:05:53She's about to turn into a fucking pumpkin.
00:06:04You see that?
00:06:05They're playing or something.
00:06:06Look at all of them whispering over there.
00:06:08I'm gonna go.
00:06:12And that's when I seen Benny.
00:06:15Standing over at the pool table.
00:06:20Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-da-da-da.
00:06:24Ah-ha-ha-ha-da-da-da.
00:06:28Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
00:06:33Boy, who's that good-looking guy over at the pool table?
00:06:36Oh, Kathy, you don't want to go out with him.
00:06:38Why not?
00:06:39You don't look like the rest of these animals.
00:06:41Because nobody wants to go out with him.
00:06:43Why?
00:06:44Because he cracks up on his bike.
00:06:46Every time he gets up on his bike, he has an accident.
00:06:48Oh.
00:06:49Okay.
00:06:50Let me get you a pap.
00:07:03Hey.
00:07:10I'm Benny.
00:07:12Hello.
00:07:13Hello.
00:07:22Well, so what are we doing here?
00:07:24Just, uh, shooting the breeze?
00:07:29Yeah, I guess.
00:07:34Well, I gotta go home.
00:07:36Oh.
00:07:38Okay.
00:07:43Okay.
00:07:54You gotta go.
00:08:08What is this, a rotary buffet?
00:08:10What's your name?
00:08:12Kathy.
00:08:14Well, Kathy, uh, don't worry.
00:08:20Don't worry about what?
00:08:22Nothing.
00:08:24I'm Johnny, I'm the president of this club,
00:08:26and, uh, the guys, they just want to have some fun, you know?
00:08:34But I won't let nothing happen to you.
00:08:37Well, yeah, what's gonna happen to me?
00:08:38Nothing.
00:08:39Ha ha, okay, well, thanks for that, you know?
00:08:42Nice to meet you.
00:08:43Adios, I gotta go.
00:08:51So I walk out the front door real nice,
00:08:54you know, being grabbed about five times.
00:08:56When I got outside, I could see all my slacks were just,
00:08:59just handprints all over me.
00:09:01Son of a...
00:09:04So I'm standing on the bus corner thinking,
00:09:06Oh my God, you know, something's gonna happen to me.
00:09:36What?
00:09:48Oh geez.
00:09:50Hey!
00:09:53Don't be scared!
00:09:59Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
00:10:02Okay.
00:10:03Yeah.
00:10:04Don't be scared.
00:10:05Oh, this is gonna do it.
00:10:07Oh!
00:10:16I was on the expressway!
00:10:18So he's going through the stoplights and everything,
00:10:20probably so I wouldn't jump off.
00:10:22And I wouldn't have jumped off anyway.
00:10:24I was scared shitless.
00:10:26I've never been on a motorcycle in all my life.
00:10:28Finally we got out on the expressway,
00:10:30and that's when it happened.
00:10:32That's when I saw them all for the first time.
00:10:34It's really strong.
00:11:04I mean, I have to admit, it took my breath away.
00:11:35See, Kathy, I told you I had nothing to worry about.
00:11:38I just want to go out with you, that's all.
00:11:50Do you want a drink?
00:11:54But I didn't get home till nearly four in the morning.
00:11:57Well, I swore I'd never go with them guys again, never.
00:11:59Because they're just like animals, you know?
00:12:01I mean, they didn't talk the same way I did.
00:12:03It was everything half this and half that.
00:12:05By the time the night was over, I mean, my ears were ringing
00:12:08from listening to them old bragging.
00:12:10So Benny brought me home, and my boyfriend,
00:12:12he was sitting on the front porch.
00:12:15All right.
00:12:16Good night.
00:12:17Adios.

00:18:32I know.
00:18:33I do not know.
00:18:34I do not know.
00:18:35I do not know.
00:18:36I know.
00:18:37I have no idea.
00:18:38I'd like to know.
00:18:39I can go to my Gestapo.
00:18:40If I don't know.
00:18:41Very well.
00:18:42Gstop...
00:18:43If I don't know.
00:18:44Chris, Chris.
00:18:45Chris...
00:18:46Take Sam, I've got a multiple idea.
00:18:47If I don't go to my Gestapo, I can go to nodule...
00:18:48Tarrant...
00:18:49I can go to my Gestapo, I can go to do the vice of transfer.
00:18:50That's what you want?
00:18:51I could help you.
00:18:52That's...
00:18:53Do you think...
00:18:54I love Benny.
00:18:56Why?
00:18:58Well, because Johnny always wanted what Benny had.
00:19:01And what's that?
00:19:02To not care about nothing.
00:19:04Hey!
00:19:05Dingy, tell them guys to get their bikes off the grass.
00:19:08Jeez.
00:19:11I mean, my ex-in-laws live right across the street.
00:19:14You know, to see these bikes here all the time.
00:19:16Hey, so, uh, tell me more about Johnny.
00:19:18Like what?
00:19:19I don't know.
00:19:20Like, uh, how he started the club.
00:19:22You know how he started the club?
00:19:23I heard he was watching, uh, TV.
00:19:25You know, Johnny's not like the rest of these guys.
00:19:27You know, how they're all bums.
00:19:29I mean, he's not a, uh, square or nothing,
00:19:31but Johnny's got a good job, you know?
00:19:33He's had the same job as long as I've known about him.
00:19:35What was that?
00:19:36Truck driver.
00:19:37He's a truck driver.
00:19:38You know, short roads, you know, like the Midwest.
00:19:40But I mean, he's got a family.
00:19:41Right.
00:19:42Yeah.
00:19:43Two daughters, his wife, Betty.
00:19:45She's all right, you know?
00:19:46I mean, a lot of these girls, oof,
00:19:48I can't stand to be around,
00:19:49because it's always, you know,
00:19:51that's my man.
00:19:52Don't be looking at my man, you know?
00:19:54But Betty, she's not like that.
00:19:56Hey, what do you mean by, um,
00:19:57Johnny was watching TV?
00:20:01He was watching, um, Marlon Brando on TV
00:20:04and got the idea for the club.
00:20:06I mean, that's what I heard, anyway.
00:20:08Girls.
00:20:09Girls.
00:20:10Somebody tell him who that's me.
00:20:11B-R-M-C.
00:20:12What's his name?
00:20:13Black Rebels Motorcycle Club.
00:20:15Isn't that cute?
00:20:16Hey, Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
00:20:19What do you got?
00:20:21What do you got?
00:20:23What?
00:20:26Nothing.
00:20:29No, but really, how the club started
00:20:30was it was a racing club.
00:20:51I've never seen Johnny race,
00:20:53but they say he was good.
00:20:54You know, him and Jimmy Goodpaster
00:20:56had a racing club.
00:20:58Goodpaster?
00:20:59Yeah, you know him.
00:21:00He's got that, uh, that BSA shop
00:21:02out past Hyde Park.
00:21:04Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, mustache.
00:21:06What?
00:21:07He's got a thin mustache.
00:21:08Yeah, yeah, well, they, uh,
00:21:09they had a racing club together.
00:21:10I'm thinking of starting a riding club.
00:21:13Why?
00:21:14I don't know.
00:21:15There's something to do, you know?
00:21:17What the fuck do you want to start a riding club for?
00:21:19All those clubs do is sit around
00:21:21talking about motorcycles.
00:21:24That's what we do.
00:21:25Yeah, we talk about them,
00:21:27and then we race them.
00:21:28What the fuck could you do to talk about them
00:21:30if you ain't good at racing?
00:21:31So they split up, and about, uh,
00:21:33about 12 guys joined up to be vandals.
00:21:35They were the first, you know,
00:21:37so that's where the guys are, the first guys at least.
00:21:39That's where the first guys, uh,
00:21:40come from was the racing club.
00:21:42Yeah, and who all was there?
00:21:45Well, it was Wahoo and Corky.
00:21:46I know that.
00:21:48My name's Wahoo.
00:21:50I ride a Hartley Dual Glider.
00:21:52I'm from Chicago, Illinois.
00:21:54I've been a vandal for about five years now.
00:21:57They call me Corky.
00:21:59I ride Wahoo's old lady.
00:22:00Oh, the fuck you do?
00:22:01Ah!
00:22:03He doesn't.
00:22:05Brucie was one of them.
00:22:06He was Johnny's right hand from the beginning.
00:22:08He was an electrician.
00:22:09Well, everyone wants to be part of something.
00:22:13I mean, that's what it really is.
00:22:15These guys don't belong nowhere else,
00:22:17so they belong together, you know.
00:22:21I can't explain it to my parents.
00:22:23They don't understand the way I live.
00:22:26Because bike riders...
00:22:30A lot of people seem to think
00:22:31that bikes lead to something negative.
00:22:35That's why they think guys ride them.
00:22:37They think it leads to something obscene.
00:22:39I don't know why, but, uh...
00:22:42But obscenity and motorcycles travel hand in hand.
00:22:46That's what everybody thinks, anyway.
00:22:48Why?
00:22:50I guess, uh...
00:22:52Everybody needs somebody to pick on.
00:22:56Can you think of anyone better than us?
00:22:58Mama, mama, mama, talk to your daughter for me
00:23:01Cal from California.
00:23:02I look at a scooter, man,
00:23:04that's completely chopped, man,
00:23:06and every part on it,
00:23:08he either made himself, man,
00:23:10or bought special for it, you know.
00:23:12You look at that dude, man.
00:23:14That dude's a vandal, you see.
00:23:16Let's say you, uh...
00:23:17Let's say you take a guy
00:23:19that buys a brand-new Harley Davidson,
00:23:21fully equipped, you know.
00:23:24There'll always be a motherfucker
00:23:27that comes along and says,
00:23:29well, I got one exactly like yours.
00:23:32Because he can get it exactly like his.
00:23:35But all choppers are different.
00:23:37Every one of them is different,
00:23:39no matter how much you like to build them.
00:23:41You know what I mean?
00:23:42Because everybody's mouth is different.
00:23:44When I was about 15 years old,
00:23:47my father brought me an Indian four-cylinder.
00:23:51Motorcycle.
00:23:53I like to be dirty.
00:23:55I'll go out of my way to put filth on my clothes,
00:23:58dirt on my pants, dirt on my face,
00:24:00mess up my hair,
00:24:02and eat bugs.
00:24:03A bug isn't really a bad deed.
00:24:05It's all in a person's mind.
00:24:07Now, if you will eat a raw beef sandwich
00:24:09or you will eat a rare steak,
00:24:11a bug won't hurt you anymore.
00:24:13And what about Zipco?
00:24:15What about Zipco?
00:24:16You know anything about him?
00:24:18Oh, he was from Latvia.
00:24:19Right.
00:24:20Do you know when he joined the club?
00:24:23Zipco?
00:24:24I mean, I don't know.
00:24:25He's just always been there.
00:24:30What?
00:24:35I never understood it, you know.
00:24:36You get all these guys.
00:24:38None of them can follow a rule to save their lives,
00:24:40you know.
00:24:41The whole point of these guys
00:24:42is that they can't follow rules, you know.
00:24:44You put them together and they get in this club
00:24:46and all of a sudden,
00:24:47they start making up all these rules
00:24:48for everybody to follow.
00:24:49It's ridiculous.
00:24:50I mean, it's absolutely ridiculous, you know.
00:24:52But this one time,
00:24:53someone challenged Johnny
00:24:54for the leadership of the club, you know.
00:24:56It's one of these crazy rules
00:24:58is that anybody can challenge Johnny
00:25:00if they really want to,
00:25:01but of course, you know,
00:25:02none of them want to
00:25:03because they're all bums, you know,
00:25:04and none of them want the responsibility.
00:25:06But this one time,
00:25:07this guy Jack, big guy,
00:25:08I mean, real big guy,
00:25:09I mean, you know, big Jack,
00:25:10they call him.
00:25:11Fat Jack.
00:25:12What?
00:25:13Wasn't it Fat Jack?
00:25:14No, he was the one at Toledo.
00:25:15This guy was, uh,
00:25:16well, I don't know.
00:25:17Anyway, this big fat Jack guy says...
00:25:19Hey, I got a question.
00:25:21Wait your turn.
00:25:22Let me finish.
00:25:25Now, we're gonna get the phone installed
00:25:27behind the bar there,
00:25:29but Johnny has to put that
00:25:30on his personal account.
00:25:31Why's he gotta do that?
00:25:33I don't...
00:25:34Because that's the way
00:25:35the phone company has to set it up.
00:25:36Clubs should pay for what they have to do.
00:25:38That way we can use it how we want.
00:25:39It don't work like that.
00:25:40Then why not?
00:25:41Why?
00:25:42Shut up a minute.
00:25:43Shut the fuck up!
00:25:46Now, listen.
00:25:48We need a phone back there
00:25:49in case anybody gets in trouble,
00:25:51all right?
00:25:52Now, you get thrown in jail
00:25:53or you need bail,
00:25:54you call here.
00:25:56You get stuck out someplace
00:25:57on your bike,
00:25:58you call here.
00:26:00But the first time we get a bill
00:26:03where you've been calling
00:26:04your fat fucking girlfriend
00:26:06out and he's,
00:26:07what the fuck?
00:26:08We're gonna take that phone
00:26:10and we're gonna put knots
00:26:11on your head with it.
00:26:12Understand?
00:26:13Yeah, but I got a question.
00:26:15I got some friends in Milwaukee.
00:26:17They like what we're doing out here
00:26:18and asked if they could join up,
00:26:20start a vandals chapter out there.
00:26:24No.
00:26:26Why not?
00:26:31What the fuck we in for?
00:26:33This is our club.
00:26:35I mean, we, uh,
00:26:37in this town here.
00:26:39We're all friends here.
00:26:42I don't know these guys.
00:26:44You know them.
00:26:46We drank with them
00:26:47on that last run to Columbus.
00:26:50Oh.
00:26:53I say no.
00:26:59Well, I say we let them
00:27:01start a chapter.
00:27:03Hey, you said if any of us
00:27:04disagrees with you,
00:27:05we could challenge you, so?
00:27:08So what?
00:27:12So I guess I'm challenging you.
00:27:14Go fuck yourself.
00:27:24Fists?
00:27:28Or knives?
00:27:33Well, I don't want to kill you.
00:27:36So, wait.
00:27:37Fists?
00:27:40Yeah?
00:27:41Yeah.
00:27:45It was a picnic,
00:27:46a big family picnic.
00:27:47All right.
00:27:49I remember because it was cold that day.
00:27:52The kids were running around,
00:27:53guys were getting stoned,
00:27:54wives and girlfriends all over the place,
00:27:56you know, and they caught a track out there.
00:28:03They'd spend all day drinking
00:28:04and running their bikes on that track
00:28:06all frickin' day long, you know?
00:28:09By the end of the day,
00:28:10the place was like one big mud pit,
00:28:12and that's where they did it.
00:28:34I mean, the thing about Johnny,
00:28:36he wasn't always bigger
00:28:37than the other guys,
00:28:38but he was always meaner.
00:28:40I mean, the thing about Johnny,
00:28:42he wasn't always bigger
00:28:43than the other guys,
00:28:44but he was always meaner.
00:29:03You okay?
00:29:04You broke my damn finger.
00:29:06We done?
00:29:07Hey, you tell your friends in Milwaukee that they can have their chapter, all right?
00:29:13You tell them Johnny said so.
00:29:16You all right?
00:29:18If you were going to let him have a chapter, why'd you go through the trouble of fighting
00:29:25him?
00:29:26Anybody who's going to have the idea is going to be me, right?
00:29:32Now he knows it.
00:29:33You good?
00:29:34Yeah, I never felt better.
00:29:36After that, the club started growing, and it got real big, real fast.
00:30:04Chapters started popping up all over the place, you know?
00:30:06Other clubs started asking to join up.
00:30:13You all right this morning?
00:30:14Oh, yeah.
00:30:15Now, when I was a young boy, at the age of five, my mother said I was going to be the
00:30:16greatest man alive.
00:30:17But now I'm a man.
00:30:18I passed the bar.
00:30:19I'm a man.
00:30:20I passed the bar.
00:30:21I'm a man.
00:30:22I'm a man.
00:30:23I'm a man.
00:30:24I'm a man.
00:30:25I'm a man.
00:30:26I'm a man.
00:30:27I'm a man.
00:30:28I'm a man.
00:30:29I'm a man.
00:30:30I'm a man.
00:30:31I'm a man.
00:30:32I'm a man.
00:30:33I'm a man.
00:30:34I'm a man.
00:30:35I'm a man.
00:30:36I'm a man.
00:30:37I'm a man.
00:30:38I'm a man.
00:30:39I'm a man.
00:30:40I'm a man.
00:30:41I'm a man.
00:30:42I'm a man!
00:30:43I pass the...
00:30:46Get the hell out of the street, kid!
00:30:54Goddamn it!
00:30:54What the hell did...
00:31:04Oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh-oh
00:31:06Oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh-oh
00:31:08Two-three-oh-oh-oh
00:31:10Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum,
00:31:40We move like the sea.
00:31:46You, you're all I want to know.
00:31:51I feel free.
00:31:57I feel free.
00:32:30Look at these pink old motherfuckers.
00:32:58These motherfuckers.
00:33:04Just like my brother, you know my brother?
00:33:07Me and my brother, we swing the same way, but the only thing is, he's a pinko.
00:33:12There's something in his head that's wrong, you know?
00:33:15But when he gets drunk, he's just like me.
00:33:17Otherwise, he thinks different.
00:33:19What do you mean by he's a pinko?
00:33:23Aren't you supposed to be taking pictures?
00:33:25Yeah.
00:33:27So what you got the microphone for all the time, then?
00:33:30I don't know.
00:33:32I was thinking I could record people talking, maybe.
00:33:35Use it with the pictures, make a book or something, maybe.
00:33:38A book?
00:33:40Yeah.
00:33:41Yeah.
00:33:42Maybe.
00:33:43So what do you mean by he's a pinko?
00:33:45Pinko, I, you know, college boy.
00:33:49They wear tennis shoes and short pants, you know, shit like that.
00:33:52Uh-huh.
00:33:53What's your brother do?
00:33:54He's in the Air Force.
00:33:57Going to Thailand next November, Air Force mechanic.
00:34:00They took him.
00:34:01They wouldn't take me, you know?
00:34:04They took him because he's a clean-cut, all-American boy.
00:34:07You know, short pants and tennis shoes.
00:34:10I don't think that's...
00:34:12I told my brother he went to college one year.
00:34:15I said, fucker, you don't quit that college, I'm going to beat the shit out of you.
00:34:21And he quit.
00:34:23Because I told him I don't want no goddamn pinkos in my family.
00:34:26Because I can't stand that shit, you know?
00:34:29Because if you can't work with your fucking hands, you ain't no fucking good.
00:34:32Hey.
00:34:33Stupid.
00:34:35Yeah, you, you tall fuck.
00:34:38Oh.
00:34:39Yeah, you.
00:34:40You scratched my bike.
00:34:42I, uh, you know, I like to work.
00:34:45I ain't a fucking prick.
00:34:46I like to work with my hands and shit.
00:34:49I work hard for my money, you know?
00:34:51Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:34:55What do you do?
00:34:57I studied photography in college.
00:35:03Why'd you scratch my bike?
00:35:05I didn't scratch your fucking scooter, man.
00:35:08Well, I walk off, there's no scratch.
00:35:10I see you here, now all of a sudden there's a scratch.
00:35:13Scratch.
00:35:14What's going on?
00:35:17Man, I was looking at this guy's carburetors.
00:35:20He's got Jaguar carburetors, you know, big Italian carburetors.
00:35:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:35:24And now he says I scratched his bike.
00:35:26Whoa.
00:35:28I didn't scratch that ancient piece of shit.
00:35:30The fuck you didn't?
00:35:32You want to get salty, motherfucker?
00:35:33I'll get salty.
00:35:34Hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:35:36Nah.
00:35:41Where you guys from?
00:35:46Gary.
00:35:48You know, uh...
00:35:50You know a guy around there called Shitty Pete?
00:35:53Around there?
00:35:54Yeah.
00:35:56He rides with us sometimes.
00:35:57Oh.
00:35:59How you know Shitty?
00:36:00Me? What?
00:36:01I used to work with Shitty Pete.
00:36:02Trucking.
00:36:11Your boyfriends are getting into trouble.
00:36:14What do you guys call yourselves?
00:36:17Rogues.
00:36:19Gary Rogues.
00:36:20How many guys you got?
00:36:24Not enough, eh?
00:36:47Come on.
00:37:17Jesus.
00:37:27Jesus.
00:37:38No.
00:37:40No, stop, stop, stop.
00:37:41No, no.
00:37:43No.
00:37:45All right.
00:37:49Hey.
00:37:51Jesus.
00:37:53That kid's fucking crazy.
00:37:56Yeah.
00:37:58Fuck this. Let's get some beers.
00:38:01Come on.
00:38:03All right.
00:38:09I had four carbs and 80 cubic inches per inch.
00:38:14Two-inch valves, all ported and relieved.
00:38:17And I had the biggest cams,
00:38:19the hairiest cams I could put in there, man.
00:38:23How the fuck did you start it?
00:38:25My mechanic.
00:38:26He weighed 300 pounds.
00:38:28He started it.
00:38:29One kick and that fucker started it.
00:38:31Fuck.
00:38:32You know how the time stuff where you live, huh?
00:38:35I'm pretty good. I mean, all right.
00:38:37Enough for me, you know.
00:38:38I'm the one riding it.
00:38:39Yeah, but see, here's the problem.
00:38:41Then you got to bring that fat guy with you every day.
00:38:43Then you got to feed him.
00:38:47What were you thinking back there?
00:38:49What?
00:38:51Right there, when you come charging in like that.
00:38:57Nothing. I saw you squaring off with them guys.
00:39:00What did I need to think for?
00:39:05Hey.
00:39:07Hey, you and me, kid.
00:39:11You and me, you crazy fuck.
00:39:22Well, Benny's always been a fighter.
00:39:24And that's just what they need in that club,
00:39:26because you know what?
00:39:27Half them guys in there are candy ass.
00:39:29There's a lot of guys in there that are candy ass.
00:39:32Look, can you walk with that thing?
00:39:34Yep.
00:39:35I mean, candy asses.
00:39:36They'll just assume, turn around and get into a fight.
00:39:39They don't care if they go to jail for disturbing the peace.
00:39:42You know, but they ain't going to go to jail
00:39:43for aggravated assault or nothing like that.
00:39:46Will you move those bikes?
00:39:48Yes, ma'am.
00:39:49Oh, wow.
00:39:50You left me one beer out of a whole case of bottles.
00:39:54What saints.
00:40:00Get these bikes off my yard.
00:40:03I mean, Benny's not even here.
00:40:05And all these jerks are out in front.
00:40:07I mean, he's not got no place to go see.
00:40:09So they'll come and they'll sit here.
00:40:10And it makes the place look bad.
00:40:12You know, the neighbors see it and this and that.
00:40:18I used to be respectable.
00:40:24Kathy, why do you think the guys,
00:40:25they don't wear their colors when they're not all together?
00:40:28Why?
00:40:30Because they're afraid when they're all by themselves.
00:40:33There's too many people that are after him for one thing, you know?
00:40:35Too many people got a grudge against him.
00:40:37So if they catch him one by one,
00:40:38I mean, that's what happened to Benny.
00:40:40Benny always wore his colors.
00:40:41And when he did wear his colors and he was by himself,
00:40:44there was trouble.
00:40:45I mean, you heard about all the trouble
00:40:46he got in over at the lakeside.
00:40:48That was it.
00:40:49Benny was by himself
00:40:50and wouldn't take his colors off for nobody.
00:40:53And there was trouble.
00:40:55You hear my brother?
00:40:56Can't be wearing no colors in this neighborhood.
00:41:00Out of the way!
00:41:04Well, he won't stay down.
00:41:06He's getting back up.
00:41:08You better stay down, you rotten fuck.
00:41:10I'll get him to stay down.
00:41:12Is this your fucking bike, asshole?
00:41:16Oh, shit! Henry!
00:41:19Oh, you son of a fucker!
00:41:21Henry!
00:41:22You dirty cop sucker!
00:41:23Henry!
00:41:25Oh, boy.
00:41:26I got this motherfucker right here.
00:41:30I mean, it nearly took his foot off.
00:41:35You know, my dad always told me
00:41:36it takes a lot to make a man cry,
00:41:38an awful lot, you know?
00:41:40I mean, they don't get hit on the head and start crying.
00:41:43Not a real man.
00:41:45Well, I've seen my father cry twice in all my life.
00:41:50Once when his father died
00:41:52and once when my mother died.
00:41:54I mean, I don't know.
00:41:56Once in all my life.
00:41:57Once when his father died
00:41:59and once when my mother almost died.
00:42:01And I mean, really cried, you know?
00:42:03And I always believed him.
00:42:05Where's Benny?
00:42:07I've seen him getting worked over with blackjacks.
00:42:10I've seen him getting stitched up with no nothing, you know?
00:42:13I mean, it's just like stitching him up
00:42:15while he's wide awake and everything else.
00:42:17You don't see that guy shed a tear.
00:42:19The closest I ever seen him come to it was that day.
00:42:23Not for the pain or nothing, no.
00:42:26You know what it was?
00:42:35Don't let him take my foot.
00:42:39All right, you don't let him take my foot off.
00:42:45He take my foot off and I can't ride no more.
00:42:49That was it.
00:42:51He didn't want to lose his foot
00:42:53because then he couldn't ride no more.
00:42:55Never mind that he got a concussion
00:42:57and this maniac nearly chopped his foot off
00:42:59for not taking his collars off.
00:43:01No, never mind that he...
00:43:03He wasn't even supposed to be riding
00:43:05because his license had been suspended from that one time
00:43:08the cops chased him all over and...
00:43:10No, no, no, no.
00:43:12I mean, all he could think about was riding a stupid motorcycle.
00:43:15Yeah, you know, it'd be funny if it wasn't so tragic.
00:43:19And what about Johnny?
00:43:24Oh, Johnny.
00:43:27Johnny went crazy.
00:43:29Johnny.
00:43:31I mean, he's in a bad way. He's in the hospital.
00:43:34Two guys jumped him over his collars.
00:43:38He nearly chopped his foot off.
00:43:46Meh.
00:43:49I'm excited.
00:44:15I'm excited.
00:44:46I don't want any trouble here.
00:44:52Well, um...
00:44:56Young kid get beat up in here earlier today.
00:45:00And, uh, you know who did it.
00:45:08A couple of regulars.
00:45:11A couple of regulars.
00:45:13All right.
00:45:15Take that pencil.
00:45:17Write their names down where they live.
00:45:22And I'll let you leave.
00:45:26This is my bar. I own it.
00:45:43Okay.
00:45:45Okay.
00:45:47Okay.
00:46:13Send a few guys. Make it so they can't work no more.
00:46:18What about the bar?
00:46:20Burn it down.
00:46:47Okay.
00:47:09We gotta go.
00:47:17No.
00:47:24Nah, we don't.
00:47:28They're scared of us.
00:47:37They think it terrified them.
00:47:43You know, that's a lot of power for one guy to have.
00:47:46Now, to be in charge of all of that?
00:47:48I mean, that can really mess with your noodle cream.
00:47:51No.
00:47:59Well, Benny was bad off.
00:48:03You know, I hid him in a motel for three weeks.
00:48:06I mean, he couldn't walk, so I got him a place with no stairs.
00:48:09This is my husband. This is...
00:48:13There.
00:48:15Oh, we were just having a drink. Would you care for a cocktail?
00:48:18I'd like a very dry martini.
00:48:20Italian vermouth, Spanish gin, and a Greek olive.
00:48:24Well, I don't think we have any.
00:48:26Oh, don't bother. I'll fix it myself.
00:48:39Hey, Kathy.
00:48:41Come on in.
00:48:43Hey, look at you. All propped up.
00:48:46Like the queen.
00:48:48Who you calling a queen?
00:48:50Yeah, you look good. You're looking all right.
00:48:52The guys thought you might really be out of it.
00:48:54He is out of it. He can't walk.
00:48:57What are the surgeons saying?
00:48:59They, uh, cut through a tendon.
00:49:01Oh, Jesus.
00:49:03We're out of ice.
00:49:05Oh, yeah. Need a tie-back to get out of the way?
00:49:07Something like that.
00:49:09I'm gonna go get some ice.
00:49:11That's what they keep you in the hospital for.
00:49:29Guys would love to see you out there.
00:49:31It's gonna be a big one. Maybe the biggest one yet.
00:49:34The biggest what?
00:49:36The picnic. Johnny's saying they're going all out for the Dayton run.
00:49:40How long is that? Three weeks?
00:49:42Yeah.
00:49:44I mean, I'll still be in the cast by then, but...
00:49:46Cast? Nah, you should put your left foot.
00:49:48You can always use your front brake if you can't put no pressure on it.
00:49:52I know the guys.
00:50:02You want a drink, Johnny?
00:50:04I'm good.
00:50:06The guys would love to see you out there.
00:50:08They're real worried about you.
00:50:11I'll be there.
00:50:13All right.
00:50:15I'll get out of here.
00:50:17Now, you rest.
00:50:19Here.
00:50:21Get a tea.
00:50:24You wouldn't really try riding after three weeks, would you?
00:50:27The doctor said three to four months with no weight on it.
00:50:30I don't know.
00:50:32Turn up the TV, would you?
00:50:36I don't want you riding.
00:50:40Yeah, it scares me.
00:50:42Especially as soon after surgery.
00:50:44I don't know.
00:50:46I don't want you riding.
00:50:49Yeah, it scares me.
00:50:51Especially as soon after surgery.
00:50:53I don't like it.
00:50:55You don't like it?
00:50:57Oh, get worried.
00:51:05I should just go.
00:51:07I'm just gonna leave.
00:51:09What?
00:51:11No, it's better. You'd be better off.
00:51:13Stop. Stop it.
00:51:15Not having to take care of me.
00:51:17Worry about me.
00:51:19No.
00:51:23When I heal up, I'll leave.
00:51:47I don't want you to go.
00:52:18I'm going off into this, uh, ice plant.
00:52:22I don't know if you know what ice plant is.
00:52:26Hey, Cassie.
00:52:28Hey, Brucie. How's Gail?
00:52:30She's good. She's, uh, got a job doing nails in Oak Park.
00:52:32I'll go see her. Uh, Johnny, can we talk?
00:52:35Hmm.
00:52:39Oh, you always gotta have these guys around to hear everything?
00:52:42Well, what's there to hear?
00:52:44Some things.
00:52:47Hmm.
00:52:57You need something, Cassie?
00:53:02You can't have him.
00:53:04Who?
00:53:06You know exactly who I'm talking about, Benny.
00:53:08You can't have him. The club can't have him. He's mine.
00:53:11You know, and if he keeps riding motorcycles, he's gonna die one way or another.
00:53:14What am I supposed to do about it?
00:53:16You know I don't want Benny just like you don't want Benny.
00:53:20Ain't nobody can tell that kid nothing.
00:53:22He's grown.
00:53:25If he wants to ride a bike, he'll ride a bike.
00:53:28Well, not if you tell him, Johnny.
00:53:30Not if you tell him he's out of the club.
00:53:32No, he's mine, Johnny, mine. I'm his wife, not you.
00:53:35What the fuck is that supposed to mean?
00:53:37Well, I know you love him. I love him, too.
00:53:39That's why you gotta do this.
00:53:42Uh...
00:53:46Are you done?
00:53:49I don't know. Am I?
00:53:51No, you gotta hit the motorcycle.
00:53:53No, I said it.
00:53:55All right, then, you know, you are. You're done.
00:54:11You can't have him!
00:54:34Shut that fucking mouth of yours a good!
00:54:36If you did it'd be the first thing you ever did!
00:54:38Quit the racket!
00:54:41Always acting like you're so fucking tough!
00:54:44If it wasn't for my bad back...
00:54:46Let me look at my jacket.
00:54:48Hey, I said to quit the racket!
00:54:50Come here! I'm gonna put the shells out of you!
00:54:53I said quit the racket, you!
00:55:01I told you, didn't I?
00:55:03Quit it! Quit it!
00:55:06Come here.
00:55:08Come here.
00:55:10Stop! Stop it!
00:55:12Stop it! You're gonna kill him!
00:55:15Stop it! Stop it!
00:55:21I want you out of here!
00:55:23Don't you ever come back here! Don't you ever!
00:55:26Fuck!
00:55:36I'm sorry.
00:55:38I'm sorry.
00:55:49He's coming.
00:55:56He's coming.
00:56:27Hey. Hey.
00:56:30You a vandal?
00:56:32That's right.
00:56:34Well, me and my guys, you know, we're looking to join up.
00:56:37You want to join, you got to talk to the man.
00:56:41Oh, yeah? Who's the man?
00:56:44Who's the man?
00:56:51That's the man.
00:56:54Come on.
00:56:58Hey, look at this guy.
00:57:00Hey, welcome back.
00:57:02Wow. You rode in all the way on that?
00:57:04Strapped it to the bike.
00:57:06He needs it because his leg is broke.
00:57:08Hey, buddy. Hey, Kathy. I need a drink.
00:57:10For what?
00:57:12What's it like riding on the old foot?
00:57:24Hey, man.
00:57:26Somebody told me you're the guy I need to talk to.
00:57:30Maybe.
00:57:32Blew out here from California.
00:57:34Heard there was a big picnic. Wanted to check it out.
00:57:37Heard you're the man in charge.
00:57:40I'm Sonny.
00:57:42Just hoping maybe to heal a few wounds.
00:57:46You know, maybe I can help you out.
00:57:50Just hoping maybe to get a little food, a little drink.
00:57:55Camp out for a night or two.
00:57:58Want to show a little class, contribute to the party.
00:58:02Help yourself.
00:58:04This here's Brucie.
00:58:06This is Benny right there with the boot.
00:58:09I'm Johnny. We're the Vandals.
00:58:12Well, it's nice to meet some proper fuck-ups.
00:58:20Yeah!
00:58:38Vandals, motherfuckers!
00:58:41I always wondered what riders out in California look like.
00:58:45Can you imagine a thousand of those fucking guys?
00:58:49I'm going home.
00:58:51I'm going home.
00:58:53Yeah, I'm going home.
00:59:01They always pegged me for stupid.
00:59:04Man, I couldn't read a fucking comic book until I was in the army.
00:59:08What comic book?
00:59:10I was born in Canada.
00:59:13I went up to the fourth grade in school, all French, no English.
00:59:17I was always hassling it, just trying to learn the goddamn language.
00:59:21You were in the army?
00:59:23Yeah. I got an undesirable discharge in there because I was always salty.
00:59:28I wanted to be in the army.
00:59:31I always wanted to go over to Vietnam.
00:59:36I went to the draft board to get in.
00:59:40They had this big party at the seaway there.
00:59:44I wake up the night before and get home about four.
00:59:51My ma comes home.
00:59:54You ain't going yet?
00:59:57You ain't going yet?
01:00:00My alarm clock's ringing. I'm still conked out and my fucking beard's full of wine.
01:00:05My ma, she takes me in a taxi cab.
01:00:08She drives me over there and she throws me in there.
01:00:12They go from station to station.
01:00:15We sit there and I keep falling asleep.
01:00:22I passed all the fucking tests, man.
01:00:26The guy says, hey, you flunked your physical.
01:00:29I said, what the fuck? What, my ears?
01:00:32Am I going to hear or what?
01:00:35He said, no, your psychiatrist flunked you.
01:00:40My doctor's a fucking genius.
01:00:42Yeah, I smell like a fucking distillery, wined up.
01:00:46I give him good answers, you know.
01:00:49So he says, you passed everything.
01:00:53He says, you are an undesirable character.
01:01:00We don't want you.
01:01:03I says, I want to go, you know.
01:01:06I cussed that fucker out that told me that.
01:01:08He said, you goddamn motherfucking bastard cocksucker.
01:01:16I walked out of there. I was crying, man.
01:01:20I wanted to go.
01:01:24There's pinkos burning their draft cards.
01:01:26They that want to go, they won't take.
01:01:28Boy, that pissed me off.
01:01:39It means a lot, you coming out here all banged up like that, you know.
01:01:44I've been thinking.
01:01:47I can't run this club forever, you know.
01:01:51I'm going to have to find somebody to take it over, you know.
01:01:57What about Brucie?
01:02:00Brucie.
01:02:02Yeah, you know, I love Brucie like a brother, you know.
01:02:05But it ain't Brucie, no.
01:02:07Brucie will get eaten alive by these guys.
01:02:10It's got to be somebody that they respect.
01:02:17It's got to be somebody that ain't going to take no shit off of them.
01:02:25It's you.
01:02:31Come on.
01:02:38Come on.
01:02:45Look.
01:02:47I built this club out of nothing, all right.
01:02:49I built it.
01:02:51I put more into this fucking club than my own family.
01:02:53This is my family.
01:02:56I don't know how many fucking chapters we got now, you know.
01:02:59We got little guys.
01:03:01We got young guys.
01:03:03I don't even know some of them, but...
01:03:06As far as they do know, you know, they ain't going to follow nobody...
01:03:08except somebody who can hold their own, you know.
01:03:13Look at me.
01:03:15I'm all fucked up.
01:03:18I can't even pay the fucking dues.
01:03:20Yeah, who fucked the dues?
01:03:27You're a grown-up, man.
01:03:31You got a house. You got a job.
01:03:33I don't want that.
01:03:35I don't care about none of that.
01:03:43See?
01:03:45That's why it's you.
01:03:48Huh?
01:03:50You.
01:03:51Who all these guys, you know, they're all trying to be.
01:03:57You see?
01:04:01So, look.
01:04:06It's yours.
01:04:24Hey, you know, I'm just...
01:04:27Just thinking over, you know.
01:04:46Sonny, you, uh...
01:04:49You ride in California, right?
01:04:51Your club's out there?
01:04:53Mm-hmm.
01:04:55So why the hell are you way out here?
01:05:00I came here for him.
01:05:03He didn't turn in his colors.
01:05:06We heard he was riding with another club.
01:05:11So they brought me out here to fuck him up.
01:05:17So, are you...
01:05:20Are you gonna fuck him up?
01:05:26Nah.
01:05:28I like you guys.
01:05:30I'm hoping to trip with you for a while.
01:05:47What the fuck happened here?
01:05:50Well, I think this funny Sonny just, uh...
01:05:55Just made Cal shit his pants.
01:06:00Look at his face.
01:06:05Fuck, man. Goddamn.
01:06:09I smell something. That's all I'm saying.
01:06:14I mean, it's...
01:06:17I understand. He's a scary guy.
01:06:30The only thing is, I thought I could change him, you know?
01:06:35Oh, jeez.
01:06:37I mean, every woman thinks that she can change a guy.
01:06:41Not to her own ways, but to be different, you know?
01:06:44Not to be different, but to be...
01:06:46I don't know, like he's wild.
01:06:49I thought he'd get over that, but...
01:06:54But Benny, he always talks about leaving.
01:06:57Sometimes I wish he would, you know?
01:06:59Because every time he gets into trouble, the first thing he'll say to me is, well...
01:07:03I'm gonna leave. And I think he just says this to me.
01:07:06So I say to him, you know, don't go, don't go.
01:07:09He doesn't know where if he'd just go.
01:07:11Not tell me about it, but just pick up and go.
01:07:13It doesn't hurt so bad, you know?
01:07:15I mean, I've got feelings.
01:07:18Because Benny has no feelings. I don't know where he gets it.
01:07:22From what I hear, even when his father died, he showed no feelings.
01:07:26Said he's better off dead.
01:07:28I mean, Benny thinks that when you die, you're better off than when you're living, you know?
01:07:31Like when his dad died, he said, it's just as well.
01:07:34He's better off that way.
01:07:36I mean, when Brucie got killed, he's better off that way.
01:07:40No feelings.
01:07:43Brucie, I mean, I think ever since Brucie died, things at the club have changed, you know?
01:07:47Don't you?
01:07:55I mean, I miss Brucie.
01:08:07Nothing. Just pow. That's it.
01:08:11I mean, that's how it is, you know?
01:08:14There's always that one.
01:08:17You know, there's always that one that gets you.
01:08:19It's the one that comes out. That one that comes out of nowhere.
01:08:21That's the one that will get you.
01:08:23That's it.
01:08:24The one that comes out of nowhere.
01:08:31Hey, Johnny.
01:08:33Yeah?
01:08:35We just got a call.
01:08:38What?
01:08:40It's the funeral home.
01:08:42They won't take the flowers.
01:08:45What?
01:08:46They won't take the flowers you sent over there.
01:08:48It says the family don't want them.
01:08:56Well, fuck it. Send them anyway, you know?
01:08:59They can eat them if they don't want to take them.
01:09:01Okay.
01:09:04Wait.
01:09:06Get the guys together.
01:09:08Hey.
01:09:09We'll take them ourselves.
01:09:12Fuck.
01:09:43♪ I'll never learn my favor
01:09:47♪ To be serious
01:09:50♪ Right here
01:09:53♪ With you
01:09:57Oh.
01:10:09Get out of here.

01:10:27Yeah.
01:10:29Teddy's singer died on the way back
01:10:32from the blessing on St. Christopher's Day.
01:10:35Yeah, he swerved and hit a parked car
01:10:38near the rock quarry.
01:10:40Good guy.
01:10:42Yeah, he used to, um...
01:10:44He used to ride that, uh...
01:10:46beautiful knucklehead, the old chrome,
01:10:49nothing but chrome.
01:10:51His dad made special things for him,
01:10:54because his dad was, uh...
01:10:56was a tool and guy maker.
01:10:58Yeah.
01:11:00I have to tell you that I, um...
01:11:03I did offer his dad to buy the bike,
01:11:06because, you know, it's beautiful.
01:11:09I offered him good money, too, you know,
01:11:12but he wouldn't...
01:11:14he wouldn't...
01:11:16he wouldn't sell it.
01:11:20You see?
01:11:23He wouldn't sell it.
01:11:26He didn't even ride it.
01:11:29He kept the bike...
01:11:32in his basement.
01:11:35Right?
01:11:39You understand?
01:11:43Yeah.
01:11:48And...

01:12:50What?
01:12:51Johnny.
01:12:52Hey, did he say that you were the one he talked to about joining up?
01:12:55Oh, no.
01:12:56No, we don't, uh...
01:12:57We don't take kids.
01:12:58I ain't a kid.
01:12:59I'm 20.
01:13:00Come on.
01:13:01Get out of here.
01:13:02All right?
01:13:03Let's...
01:13:04Let's go.

01:13:14Let's go.
01:13:15Let's go.
01:13:16All right, let's...
01:13:17Will you just come look at our bikes?
01:13:20We chopped them ourselves.
01:13:21Okay.
01:13:22Come look at our bikes.
01:13:24Come look at our bikes.
01:13:30Let's see these pieces of shit.
01:13:42So we, uh...
01:14:05We scrapped all the pieces ourselves, you know, we...
01:14:08I mean, we didn't have nothing, but we did it, you know?
01:14:11We did all the work.
01:14:12There you go.
01:14:18What do you call yourselves?
01:14:20The Renegades.
01:14:24We've been riding since we were kids.
01:14:28Look, we'll do whatever we gotta do, all right?
01:14:31If you want us to rob someone, we'll rob them.
01:14:33You know, if you want us to fight someone, we'll kill them.
01:14:37What we want to do, we want to ride with you.
01:14:42You run this pretty bad, huh, kid?
01:14:45Yeah.
01:14:51I bet if I offered you to run this whole club, you'd take it in a heartbeat, right?
01:14:57What?
01:15:01Nothing.
01:15:04Uh...
01:15:08Yeah.
01:15:10You're in.
01:15:16But just you.
01:15:20Gotta leave your friends behind.
01:15:31Fine.
01:15:34Nah, nah, nah.
01:15:37Nah.
01:15:41No.
01:15:43Get the fuck out of here.
01:15:46What kind of piece of shit are you?
01:15:49Hey, leave your friends behind? Hey, babe.
01:15:54No.
01:15:56Get the fuck out of here. I don't want to see you around here ever again.
01:16:03Johnny!
01:16:04Hey, hey, hey, Johnny, hey, hey, hey, hey!
01:16:07Ugh.
01:16:12All right, clean this piece of shit up and get out of here.
01:16:19Jesus fucking Christ.
01:16:28But you left.
01:16:30What?
01:16:32You left before things really got bad.
01:16:35I guess it was 69, so, uh...
01:16:39So, yeah, I was done with school, and I just packed and left for New York.
01:16:44That's why I wanted to talk. I wanted to know what happened to the guys.
01:16:48What happened to the club.
01:16:52You know, a year or so after Brucey died, after you left, things with the club really changed.
01:16:56They just got...
01:17:00You know, in the club, it's split.
01:17:01It's split between the old guys and the new guys, between the beer drinkers and the pot smokers.
01:17:08And those rules, it's just a bunch of made-up stuff, but these new guys really believe them.
01:17:13It's like it was all written in stone or something.
01:17:17There's a guy who used to ride with us.
01:17:20Took photos.
01:17:22He says he's, uh, says he's gonna make a book.
01:17:26So I says then...
01:17:27So I says then...
01:17:30All I ever want is to be photographed dressed up like a barbarian.
01:17:34Like a real barbarian, you know, with fur and an axe or some shit.
01:17:45You didn't take it.
01:17:47So, there I am, perplexed.
01:17:50But I went to the post office, and I put my phone down.
01:17:54And I'm not happy.
01:17:57So, this guy's hassling me, man.
01:18:00Hey, funny.
01:18:02Stop hogging the booze, man.
01:18:06So, listen, I'm like...
01:18:07Listen, man, I'm warning you.
01:18:09One step closer.
01:18:11And I'm gonna...
01:18:15Boy, look at that dress.
01:18:16I bet I'd look good in that dress.
01:18:19Yeah, I bet you would, guy.
01:18:28He's lucky I wasn't bad, you know.
01:18:30You got all these new guys, you know.
01:18:31Half of them are coming back from Vietnam.
01:18:33They're the pot smokers, and they're different, these young ones.
01:18:36You know, I mean, smoking pot, sure, you know.
01:18:38But they do other stuff, too.
01:18:39Drugs, you know, like hard stuff.
01:18:41And they're crazy.
01:18:43I got him laid out on the floor, right?
01:18:45I put this right up to the back of his head.
01:18:47And he says,
01:18:48Why don't you let me go?
01:18:49I said, you ain't going nowhere, motherfucker.
01:18:52I captured you.
01:18:54You go when I say you can go.
01:18:58You hear what they did to Cockroach?
01:19:01What'd you say?
01:19:03A motorcycle cop.
01:19:05I always wanted to be a motorcycle cop.
01:19:08That's why I gotta...
01:19:11Give my colors back.
01:19:14You say you're quitting?
01:19:16Yeah.
01:19:18Well, what better job, huh?
01:19:20I say, what better job is there
01:19:23than to get paid to sit on a Harley Davidson all day long?
01:19:28I already told her.
01:19:29She's got a call in the morning, you know.
01:19:30I don't think she'll do it.
01:19:31I told you that last week.
01:19:36Where'd you get that?
01:19:37That girl.
01:19:38She wants you to have it.
01:19:39Sonny, what the heck is she wearing?
01:19:41She took some fellas upstairs.
01:19:42She don't need it.
01:19:43Don't worry.
01:19:44They're having a good time.
01:19:45She said she wants you to have it.
01:19:46She did, huh?
01:19:49Try it on.
01:19:55Come on!
01:19:58We're like Santa Claus.
01:20:07Where are they from?
01:20:08Columbus.
01:20:10All you new fucking guys.
01:20:12Yeah, I can't keep up.
01:20:15I gotta...
01:20:16I gotta take a piss.

01:23:10Not he.
01:23:11He had to go.
01:23:16How?
01:23:19You're okay.
01:23:24You're okay.
01:23:54Benny...
01:24:01Johnny...

01:24:12Alone.
01:24:15They broke two fucking ribs.
01:24:19These fucking new guys.
01:24:20I think they're crazy, Johnny.
01:24:26I told my old lady I'd turn to my colors.
01:24:32I want to turn to my colors.
01:24:36Quit the club.
01:24:40I understand.
01:24:43But, Johnny, these guys.

01:24:48I'm worried when they find out, they'll fucking kill me.
01:24:53I need help.
01:24:59Hmm.
01:25:04I'll take care of you.
01:25:06I'll take care of you.
01:25:29You got a pistol, right?
01:25:30No.

01:26:25I'm sorry.
01:26:26We all got places to be, you know?
01:26:32What is it?
01:26:46I can't live like this no more.
01:26:51And I ain't gonna live like this no more.
01:26:57Well, you weren't there, Benny.
01:26:58You didn't see it, you know?
01:27:00Like, I didn't know what I would've done
01:27:01if they got me up those stairs and into that bedroom, you know?
01:27:04Johnny said he took care of it.
01:27:05He said nothing happened.
01:27:07Well, that's not true.
01:27:08You weren't there.
01:27:09You didn't see it.
01:27:10I mean, you weren't there.
01:27:12I know.
01:27:13I'm sorry.
01:27:14You weren't there!
01:27:18If they'd have got me up those stairs,
01:27:19I think I would've taken your gun
01:27:20and I would've popped my brains out.
01:27:22Come on.
01:27:23I'm serious.
01:27:24You know, I know I'm always saying
01:27:26that people who commit suicide, they must be nuts.
01:27:28Well, you know, I think this time I will go nuts.
01:27:33Well, who'd even want you after a thing like that?
01:27:35Who'd even want to look at you?
01:27:40What do you want me to do?
01:27:42I want you to quit writing.
01:27:43I want you to quit the club.
01:27:47Don't ask that.
01:27:50You know, I was thinking we'd go someplace, you know?
01:27:53I mean, you said you had a cousin in Florida
01:27:55with a garage you could work at.

01:28:43I gotta go meet Johnny.
01:28:45I gotta go.
01:29:16Don't do nothing.
01:29:17Just follow me in.
01:29:46Fuck!
01:30:00You ready?
01:30:05Give me a pistol.
01:30:10Fuck!
01:30:11Fuck!
01:30:15Fuck!
01:30:20You let it bleed.
01:30:24Go now.
01:30:27Stay gone.
01:30:35Come on.
01:30:46Come on.
01:30:47Come on.
01:31:12What the fuck was all that for?
01:31:17That...
01:31:19That was taking care of Cockroach.
01:31:28Like you took care of Kathy.
01:31:36Is that what this club is now?
01:31:43Is that who we are now?
01:31:48That's it.
01:32:07Benny.
01:32:08Benny.
01:32:11Um...
01:32:18These new guys...
01:32:22These, uh...
01:32:25These young guys...
01:32:32Don't none of them listen.
01:32:37I, uh...
01:32:38I can't run this club no more.
01:32:48I...
01:32:52I need you.
01:33:01You know...
01:33:04I don't ask nobody for nothing.
01:33:09And I don't want nothing from nobody.
01:33:14It's not me.
01:33:17Never gonna be me.
01:33:48You know, Benny always talked about leaving.
01:33:53And then he was gone.
01:33:57It's like a funny son he says to me.
01:33:58He says, Kathy, I'm gonna tell you something.
01:34:00He says, once you go out with a guy from the Vandals,
01:34:02he says you'll never go back to any other guy, you know?
01:34:06And I think this is true,
01:34:07because every time you go out with a guy from the Vandals,
01:34:09you're never gonna go back to any other guy, you know?
01:34:12And I think this is true,
01:34:13because every time you go out with a guy from the Vandals,
01:34:15And I think this is true,
01:34:16because after a while you get just like them, you know?
01:34:19You start thinking like them and acting like them.
01:34:21It changes you.
01:34:23I mean, Benny was gone more than a year,
01:34:24because that was 71, you know?
01:34:26That's when some kid showed up to challenge Johnny.
01:34:31I'd never heard of him.
01:34:32You know, it's just some kid.
01:34:46I'm a Vandal now.
01:34:48And what chapter?
01:34:50Milwaukee.
01:34:54You know, all my guys have been talking,
01:34:55we're done with you running things.
01:35:01I'm here to challenge you.
01:35:06Fists are nice.
01:35:10I'm a Vandal now.
01:35:12I'm a Vandal now.
01:35:13Fists are nice.
01:35:16Nice?
01:35:24Hey, there's a...
01:35:28There's a parking lot on Fuller.
01:35:32Near the lake.
01:35:34Tomorrow night.
01:35:37All right.
01:35:43All right.
01:36:05Any ideas?
01:36:06A few.
01:36:07A few.
01:36:09But I want to take a look at the test before I commit.
01:36:14Where are the girls?
01:36:16Out with friends.
01:36:19I gotta head out.
01:36:20You coming back tonight?
01:36:22Yeah.
01:36:24Grab some eggs on your way home.
01:36:25I don't want to get out again.
01:36:32Yeah.
01:36:43All right.
01:37:14Hey.
01:37:15Johnny.
01:37:19Hey, Kathy.
01:37:21Benny, ever come back round?
01:37:22No.
01:37:23I don't think so.
01:37:24You need to go.
01:37:25I'm going.
01:37:26Well, good luck.
01:37:27See you.
01:37:29Hey, you need to get in on this.
01:37:30Look, I can't.
01:37:32I don't want to.
01:37:34I'm in it.
01:37:37But listen to me,
01:37:38you're in it.
01:37:40You're gonna make it.
01:37:41You'll be okay, all right?
01:37:42I'm gonna make it.
01:37:43You can do it.
01:37:44I'm gonna make it.
01:37:45You know it.
01:37:47I can do it.
01:37:48Man, did he ever come back around?
01:37:53No.
01:37:57You know, if he had, I figured you would have seen him before me.
01:38:01Nah.
01:38:04Yeah, last I heard, he rode to Indiana with some guys.
01:38:10That sounds right.
01:38:15What do you need?
01:38:19Nothing.
01:38:28Well, I guess neither of us got him.
01:38:35I guess not.
01:38:49You know,
01:38:55you can give everything you got to a thing,
01:38:58and you can give it all you got.
01:39:03It's still just gonna do what it's gonna do.
01:39:12What, you mean like my marriages?
01:39:18Yeah.
01:39:25Come on, Johnny, what do you need?
01:39:34I already said it.
01:39:40Nothing.
01:39:49Hey, take it easy, Kathy.
01:39:56You too, Johnny.
01:40:12It was late October, so it was already getting cold.
01:40:15From what I hear, some of the old vandals didn't even take their bikes.
01:40:19They just sat in their cars to watch.
01:40:22But he belonged.
01:40:24What is that, Jared?
01:40:26Nah, he belongs when you go to work and you go to jail at night.
01:40:30That's what I'm saying.
01:40:32He's on a train.
01:40:34All these flunkies.
01:40:46Come on.
01:40:59Hey, let me take care of this stuff.
01:41:04Go get him, Johnny.
01:41:16It's getting fucking cold out there.
01:41:32Now you want it, kid.
01:41:39Fuck.
01:41:45Fuck.
01:41:59You know, I heard a guy say later,
01:42:02a bike rider, he says that once Johnny got killed,
01:42:05that was the end of the golden age of motorcycles.
01:42:08Hey, after that, this kid took over.
01:42:11He turned the vandals into a proper gang, you know?
01:42:27What the fuck we do now?
01:42:32Nothing to do.
01:42:34Nothing to do.
01:42:46The gang got even bigger.
01:42:53And they have chapters all over the Midwest now, even further, you know?
01:42:57I heard they started running drugs down from Canada, you know,
01:43:00gambling, prostitution, you name it.
01:43:03I mean, I heard they even murder people.
01:43:11You know, and other clubs.
01:43:13You know, you think of Funny Sonny, right?
01:43:15Coming from California, that couldn't happen today, you know?
01:43:17I mean, with other clubs, they attack each other on sight now.
01:43:20I mean, it's a real shame.
01:43:24And what about the other guys?
01:43:26What happened to all the guys?
01:43:28I mean, well, some of the guys are still right with him, you know?
01:43:31Wahoo and Quirky, I think.
01:43:33They're still vandals.
01:43:37Fuck you, girl.
01:43:41That's a nice mouth.
01:43:43You know when Cal died?
01:43:45Yeah, they said he was painting houses in Lakewood.
01:43:48He fell off a ladder and he broke his neck.
01:43:53Somebody told me Funny Sonny got paid five bucks
01:43:56to sit on his bike outside the movie theater
01:43:58to try to get people in to watch Easy Rider.
01:44:01Woo!
01:44:03The whole thing is just ridiculous.
01:44:07Cockroach went back home, and can you believe this?
01:44:09He's a motorcycle cop now.
01:44:11Yeah, of all things.
01:44:15And Zipco moved to Texas to work on a shrimp boat.
01:44:18That's the last I heard of him.
01:44:20I don't know.
01:44:25And what about Benny?
01:44:30I don't know.
01:44:40Hey, Benny.
01:44:42You hear that?
01:44:53They just told me the leader of the vandals got killed.
01:44:56A guy named Johnny.
01:44:57Said some kid just walked up and shot him in the parking lot.
01:45:03Didn't you used to ride with that guy?
01:45:07Yeah.
01:45:11These fucking kids.
01:45:27Fuck.
01:45:57Fuck.
01:46:27Fuck.
01:46:57Fuck.
01:47:28Fuck.
01:47:37We moved down here to Florida.
01:47:41You know?
01:47:44Is he still riding?
01:47:46No. No.
01:47:49No, ever since Johnny died, you know,
01:47:51Benny don't ride no more.
01:47:54And you know, I...
01:47:58I don't think he misses it.
01:48:06Things are real good.
01:48:09Well, real good. We're happy.
01:48:12Benny works for his cousin now and things are real good.
01:48:20We're happy.
01:48:28I want to go back home and tell him everything that he's done wrong.
01:48:31How he didn't respect me.
01:48:33Right?
01:48:35He starts getting mad. He starts yelling at me.
01:48:58He used to let me in.
01:49:01Used to fight with me.
01:49:03He makes me so sad.
01:49:05Sadder than he did for me.
01:49:09And I can't see.
01:49:11He's still in the streets.
01:49:14He's gone.
01:49:16Out in the streets.
01:49:21He don't
01:49:23calm his head
01:49:25like he did before.
01:49:28He don't wear those
01:49:30dirty old black boots no more.
01:49:34But he knows what I'm saying.
01:49:37Something's at his feet
01:49:39and it tells me he's changed.
01:49:41I know that something's missing inside.
01:49:45Something that
01:49:47he's still in the streets.
01:49:51He's gone.
01:49:52Out in the streets.
01:49:58He walks by himself.
01:50:00He lies down in a tub.
01:50:02He walks with no one to love.
01:50:07He walks by himself.
01:50:09He walks on his feet.
01:50:11He walks left and right.
01:50:13Left and right.
01:50:18He don't hang around
01:50:20with a gang no more.
01:50:22Out in the streets.
01:50:23He don't hang around
01:50:24with a gang no more.
01:50:25And it was Gino, and it was Gino, and it was Gino, and it was Gino
01:50:43Got a new girlfriend, I placed her on grant
01:50:46Swore if she got out alive she'd not go back again
01:50:50The fellas didn't know her and they scared her half to death
01:50:54Handprints on her jeans, she would've just got up and left
01:50:57That's when she saw Benny standing over by the bar
01:51:01Sat back down and waited till he came over to talk
01:51:05Later on that night as she was walking out the door
01:51:08Benny stirred up his bike and the boys came out for more
01:51:25They picked her up and put her on the back of Benny's bike
01:51:30And Kathy's been with Benny Bauer ever since that night
01:51:33She's tried to leave him many times, he can't quite get away
01:51:37Seen more jelly courts and lawyers than she liked to say
01:51:40And Benny's always been a fighter, that'll never change
01:51:44Kathy takes him home and his mother beats all the same
01:51:47He made it from the club room all the way out to the street
01:51:51They beat him with a barstool but he made it on his feet
01:52:09Kathy's running to her boy, begs him if he takes her home
01:52:15And Benny's crying, Kathy's, I'm sorry don't you know
01:52:21I'm sorry don't you know
01:52:25I'm sorry don't you know
01:52:30I bought a cost of blood and the fellas drink their beer
01:52:34Women with their hair done up, they make it very clear
01:52:38Which one of the fellas is all theirs can't be touched
01:52:41That's how many of the motorcycle riders just give up
01:52:45I'm talking to the pretty ladies, every one they can
01:52:49I've never seen the trouble called off by just one dance
01:52:52If Benny don't get himself shot tonight I wish he did when he gets home
01:53:12Now Kathy's dating Benny and he keeps her by his side
01:53:17Kathy's still a cute-ass girl, his boy's a lover of mine
01:53:21Riders line up, BSA's out, all the scrams on his tracks
01:53:25Levi's jeans and leather jackets, numbers on their backs
01:53:28And Benny's bikes, Tim and Chris, a 215 class
01:53:32They make him start a way up and up a railroad track
01:53:35Tomorrow they'll all ride across the Illinois state line
01:53:39Motorcycle blastin' out of sight, Chris ever shot
01:53:57Kathy's walkin' out the door with little Benny all alone
01:54:03And Benny's cryin', Kathy, baby, don't you go
01:54:09Oh, baby, don't you go
01:54:13Oh, baby, don't you go
01:54:18Kathy, you made her this time
01:54:22She's leavin' in the middle of the night
01:54:26There's wipes on your table, there's boots on your floor
01:54:29The car's parked right outside of your back door
01:54:33So leave him asleep in your bed
01:54:36And you're halfway to Chicago, four to five, seven
01:55:00Uh-huh, uh-huh
01:55:21Here I go walkin' down this lonely street
01:55:30Laughin' and smilin' with every girl that I meet
01:55:38But no one knows what sets this lonely heart apart from me
01:55:50Oh, this lonely street
01:55:55Talkin' about this lonely street
01:55:59This lonely street
01:56:02Gotta get off my feet
