00:163, 2, 1, press!
00:19This is the largest water reservoir project outside Luzon that can be found in Iloilo, Calinog.
00:25These are the dams of the Halaur River Multipurpose Project Stage 2.
00:30President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. himself initiated the project.
00:34The JRMP2 has three key components.
00:38The irrigation development, the environmental and watershed management, and institutional development.
00:46The first stage of the project was completed more than four decades ago in 1982
00:51during the time of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
00:54It's only the beginning of what we have in store for the development of our water resources.
00:59Because of the opening of Phase 2, more irrigation will be supplied by water.
01:04It will not only promote the agriculture of Iloilo, but also the area.
01:09It is expected to increase the production of rice in Region 6 to 160,000 metric tons.
01:16With all these, the JRMP2 truly deserves its label, Katuwang sa Kauswaga, or Partner in Progress.
01:25The farmers, Renato and Cyril, say that they will be able to harvest more because their crops will be able to grow in the water.
01:33Thank you very much to the project for doing the irrigation so that our crops can continue.
01:42Thank you very much to President Marcos and the government because the Halaor River Project was successful.
01:52It will greatly help the farmers.
01:56It will also help in producing 6.6 megawatts of hydroelectric power and help in resolving flooding.
02:03Additionally, it is also proposed to develop inland fishery, floating solar energy systems,
02:09and eco-cultural tourism in the near future.
02:13As of June 2024, there is an overall accomplishment rate of 75.51% for the three dams,
02:20while the remaining canals are already at 49.05 kilometers.
02:25Our water development projects would not just bring irrigation or potable water to our people,
02:31but will also help address flooding, produce food, generate electricity, and develop tourism activities.
02:47In Bagong, Philippines, we are strategically harnessing our finite resources, especially water.
02:53We are also wisely investing our limited funds in projects that will bring optimal development
02:59for the most number of beneficiaries in the most efficient manner.
03:03The project will be a complete and operational target by the end of 2025.
03:09The first irrigation of that water, according to the farmers,
03:13is a proof and symbol of the irrigation of hope that will benefit the agricultural sector
03:20not only in the province of Iloilo, but in the entire region of Western Visayas.
03:25From Kalinog, Iloilo, Alan Francisco for Pabansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
