CARLY Parker, 24, from Massachusetts, has lost 140lbs in just over a year. Carly was always heavier growing up, but when her weight reached 300lbs her mental health began to decline. Alongside weight loss surgery, Carly followed a basic keto diet and worked out multiple times a week to lose 140lbs in total. Now she’s lost the weight, Carly has continued to follow a healthy lifestyle to maintain her weight. Despite this success, she told Truly: “I’m the most confident I’ve ever been, but now I have new insecurities because I have loose skin and a whole new body.” To combat this sense of body dysmorphia, Carly says it’s important to learn how to love your body at every stage of your weight loss journey.

00:00My whole life I was heavy. It didn't matter what I did.
00:04I started overeating, getting into a depression, and overall just not taking care of myself.
00:09That's when I hit my highest weight of 300 pounds.
00:13I went to the doctors and she told me that I would be the perfect candidate for weight loss surgery
00:18because I could never lose the weight on my own.
00:20It has taken me a year and two months to lose 140 pounds.
00:24My heaviest weight was 300 pounds and now I weigh 160.
00:31This is my closet, my bedroom.
00:35I'm going to show you what I used to wear compared to what I would wear now.
00:40So this is something I would wear now. It is cropped. It's fitting to my body.
00:44I actually have one of my old sweaters from when I was 300 pounds.
00:48It is a double XL and it's definitely like a dress on me now, which is crazy to see.
00:55My whole life I was heavy. It didn't matter what I did.
00:59I played sports like everybody else.
01:01I ate the same food everybody else ate.
01:03And I think because I was upset that I wasn't losing the weight,
01:07then I started overeating, getting into a depression, and overall just not taking care of myself.
01:13And that's when I hit my highest weight of 300 pounds.
01:16When I was at my heaviest weight, I always was a happy person in general,
01:20but it definitely contributed to me feeling bad about myself,
01:24feeling not as energetic, and just not feeling the best that I could feel.
01:30So I'm going to show you guys what I used to eat on a typical day
01:34when I would be out for a meal out at McDonald's.
01:37Over here we have a large fry, 10-piece chicken nugget, chicken sandwich.
01:46And then sometimes we would have to add the burger in there with a quarter pounder.
01:52And this is so crazy to me looking back at this now,
01:55but this is what I would eat on a typical meal at McDonald's.
01:59About a year ago, I stepped on the scale and saw that I weighed 300 pounds.
02:03I went to the doctors and she told me that I would be the perfect candidate for weight loss surgery
02:08because I could never lose the weight on my own.
02:10I had the surgery and I ate low carb, very clean for a year and two months.
02:16It wasn't easy. It took a lot. It wasn't just a diet that I could start and not finish.
02:21And I was able to lose the 140 pounds.
02:25During the first year and two months of my weight loss journey, I cut out most carbs.
02:31So I did a low carb diet, kind of similar to keto, for a year and two months
02:35until I cut off all of the weight that I wanted to lose.
02:38Other than that, I didn't really restrict myself.
02:40I stuck to high protein and vegetables.
02:43And now that I've lost all the weight, I eat carbs in moderation
02:47and I try to be able to enjoy everything as I want to, as long as it's in proportion.
02:52So my heaviest weight was 300 pounds and now I weigh 160.
02:57It has taken me a year and two months to lose the 140 pounds.
03:02Now that I've lost the weight, I work out about three to four times a week
03:06trying to gain the muscle back that I've lost during my weight loss journey.
03:09And I try to walk and do cardio one to two times a week.
03:13Hey Carly, what's up? What's going on, baby girl?
03:16Good, how are you?

03:28From one to ten is like a hundred.
03:31I love her, I love to see her when she comes in and smiles.
03:38Training with Carly is fun.
03:39When she's training, she starts joking, but she likes to work hard.
03:48I'm the most confident I've ever been, except at the same time,
03:52I'm getting new insecurities because now I have loose skin.
03:57And I'm in a body I've never been in before.
03:59It all happened very fast.
04:01I mean, I lost the 140 pounds in one year.
04:03So learning to love your body at every stage is something that I always promote
04:07and I'm super passionate about.
04:09As of right now, I'm just learning to love my body as it is.
04:14Hey, how are you?
04:16Want to get some tea?
04:18Yes.
04:19I'm Fallon, and I'm Carly's best friend since middle school.
04:23I've been there for it all.
04:25I've seen her ups and downs, her struggles.
04:27So I've just been there as someone to support her through everything.
04:32Her drinks.
04:36That's Carolina.
04:38Love.

04:42how everything has changed.

04:46Isn't it so much better?
04:47It's honestly so much better.

04:54You're just ready to go off and bop around and just have fun.
04:58Be my best self.
04:59Yes, exactly, and thrive.
05:01And thrive, always.
05:03Weight loss has changed my life in every single aspect.
05:06I can go out and not worry about if people are staring at me because of my weight.
05:10I can enjoy activities I wasn't able to enjoy.
05:13I don't have to worry about weight restrictions.
05:16I can do anything anybody else can do now,
05:18and I felt sheltered before because of my weight.
05:21If you are looking to lose weight, I would say do not wait another day.
05:24Do it now.
05:25It will change your life if you just stick and stay motivated
05:29and actually implement those healthy habits to do it successfully.
