00:00In his first news conference, it's returning from an overseas trip.
00:03Governor Abbott gave an update on the recovery from Barrel.
00:06And he had harsh words for CenterPoint, the power company which serves much of the Houston
00:10area.
00:12Allegations have been made that while Texans have been baking in deadly heat without power,
00:19CenterPoint was pinning, pinching and cutting corners in ways that slow the recovery process.
00:24Those allegations must be investigated.
00:28We must know, was CenterPoint protecting Texans or was it protecting its own pocketbook?
00:37Tomorrow marks one week since Barrel roared ashore, knocking out power to more than two
00:42million customers.
00:44At least three people died in Harris County from overheating due to loss of power.
00:48Tonight, nearly 400,000 CenterPoint customers are still without power.
00:53The company says it's now hopeful it can restore 90% of affected customers by the end
00:58of the day tomorrow.
01:00Fox's Jonathan Mejia spoke with some elderly residents in the area this weekend, concerned
01:04about when the power will be back on.
01:08Residents at the Knights Bridge apartment here are wondering when will they get their
01:12power back?
01:13They are tired of living and sitting in darkness during these hot and humid temperatures.
01:19They're wanting answers from CenterPoint, but also the mayor.
01:22This is very hurtful and harmful and we can't see anything, we have to go buy candles, we
01:30have to go out and buy food every day.
01:33It's been rough, it's been hot, but nothing.
01:37Disabled and elderly residents at the Knights Bridge apartments in Spring are going on day
01:41six without power.
01:43They have a lot of questions for CenterPoint and local officials.
01:46It's just ridiculous and they got lights right down the street at all the businesses.
01:52I just don't understand what's really going on, it's like they're punishing us.
01:59With many residents having underlying health conditions, having power not only is a necessity,
02:05but becomes their lifeline.
02:08With no power, a lot of the medication things, stuff like insulin right now, they can't keep
02:12it refrigerated.
02:14Some of the stores right now are not providing them with the ice.
02:16While more than one million people have had their power restored, hundreds of thousands
02:21still remain powerless and expectations are not high for the residents at the Knights
02:25Bridge.
02:26Based on what I'm seeing right now, I absolutely do not see it taking place.
02:30As far as this area right here that we're in, I do not see at 90%, at least not in this
02:36area.
02:37CenterPoint says they hope to have 90% of the power restored back by the end of tomorrow.
02:43Some residents I spoke with tell me they're hopeful, others are skeptical.
02:46Nonetheless, they want their power back and back quickly.
02:50Reporting in Spring, Jonathan Mejia, Fox News.
